At the Lowe’s exhibition of Antillean Visions, I learned about the significance of looking at different maps of the same area and how they can reveal potential conflicts. For example, these two maps show the same area outlined with proposed cultural preservation districts and proposed logging zones. The final outcome for this land could mean the difference between increased economic prosperity or preserving the environment and culture, and makes you think about what brings more value to the people who live there: raw resources or human culture and nature? @TashanaTaylor #UMTaylor

At the Historic Doc Thomas House, I learned that the fireplace is made out of two different kinds of limestone: highly porous limestone from the mainland of Miami and marine limestone from the keys, which has marine fossils in it! Also, Thomas was a mysterious bachelor who signed away parcels of his property to one of his female employees, who is suspected to have been his girlfriend, despite being 30 years younger than him. @TashanaTaylor #UMtaylor
