Toy Con Colombia had the biggest surprise for me! They announced that 1/4 De Juguetes would be selling an early version of the new "Captain Ray" figure made by the awesome guys FourKatz4g. And guess what? I managed to get my hands on it!

I had the chance to chat with one of the artists behind the figure and see some of the amazing stuff they're creating. Oh, and I wanted to show you how the new figure (on the left) compares to my original one (on the right, although with a reproduction cape). At first glance, the new figure looks very similar to the original Gulliver, but it's absolutely stunning on it own merits.

A reusable blister that allows for a perpetual MIB display, but it also lets you experience the figure in your hands for posing is just brilliant. The accompanying character card features original art, which is also seen on the cardback. The art, done by a still unnamed artist (probably a member of the collective), has hints of Garcia Lopes' style but still has its own unique touch that sets it apart like a FourKatz4g figure.

It's a collector's piece made with the same vintage plastics that characterizes Gulliver's Figures. Fans of Super Powers Figures will notice that the new figure stays true to the original one while still being its own new iteration. It is slightly smaller overall, but that's only noticeable when you stand it next to the original. I think it would look even better displayed alongside the Kenner Super Powers figures.

The legs are spread a bit more, and each figure is carefully hand-painted. Mine had a slightly darker red on the belt and emblem, but I can't guarantee that every figure will have the same variation. However, one thing that is consistent is that the skin tone has intentionally been changed to a darker shade, giving it a more authentic "Colombian" look according to 4 Katz. I guess that means Francisco D’ardoine is now an immigrant cop working in NYC. Pretty cool, huh?

Overall, it's a beautiful figure and the most genuine release of the character you'll find in this century. It's sculpted, molded and painted in Colombia with the same materials and attention to detail that accompanied the original.

As for me now, I'm once again waiting, searching and moving heaven and earth for the lost-media mini comic featuring the second version of Captain Ray to surface… so we can finally uncover the mystery of his secret origin.
