     Oh, he can’t turn away from her pensive words. Of course pride and love swell as he looks over his young son. Ñolofinwë has some able touch to stop him fussing, but it is almost like an enchantment when his mother does it; some far but fond memories it conjures. “I remember just a little.” And yet a sigh, too, burrows into his chest. Time’s made him wiser and quite grown, but if she says she misses him, so does he. Can’t he soften the truth of that? “You know I’ve decided for us to remain in Tirion.”

                  Leaning over the side of the crib she shushes Findekáno gently, her finger gently stroking his chubby little cheek. “I remember when you were this little,” she murmurs wistfully. Pulling back, she turns to face her eldest son with a small smile. “Looking at you now, such a time seems so far away. You have your own little family now, your own home. Though if I would’ve had my way, none of you would have left the nest, or at least, not so quickly.”

     He knew well the reason, the glint of chance sparked in the silver gleam outside, that his brother took on. After all, he had tried the same with Findis, before Lalwendë had pitted that scheme two against one; and now Arafinwë. “We can’t.

“Remember, you promised mother and father to act well.” How disappointing, how dreadful that Nolofinwë had since grown in full into his part. “Here,” but he pulled the blanket back, “I’ll sit with you until you are asleep. We can talk.”

Turgon tensed hearing his brother’s voice, his eyes staying focused on the sky for a moment longer before he reluctantly accepted he needed to acknowledge Fingon. Tearing his eyes away from the gathering and darkening clouds he tried to smile at his older brother.

“Are you?” As he asked that Turgon wanted to hit himself because that would not convince Fingon that everything was well. Instead he sighed and turned his head to look away again, though at the ground instead of the sky. “It has simply been… difficult to adjust to things here again. Nothing to worry about.”

The words sounded weak to him, something to be exploited as he tried to figure out a diversion. Hopefully something would distract his brother soon.

     𝕹othing he might say would convince or distract, if that was any comfort. Worry for his brother came all too naturally, all too surely where it was needed to Fingon. “I am.” And where Turgon was closer to their sister, Fingon would not have her, either, be burdened with more such woe. “You can admit that it’s hard.” They all knew and understood...

They had all lost much. And all had loved Elenwë, and yet none as much as Turgon. “Turvo,” An awkward distance, he knew his brother wanted not to talk, but he did. These few steps apart were what Fingon could spare. And rather the dark clouds were on both their faces. “Don’t hide from everyone who still loves you.”

Least does he want to let go of his father and therefor he also clings to Lalwen. They’re words that rumble in his mind. He sniffs, and he shakes a little, frightened — pain brings so much anguish, he had already seen. He would hide and yet quietly, fearfully he confesses, “I don’t want to be sent away.”

    “𝖂hat about teasing, didn’t mother tell you not to?” His jab is less precise, but he can’t quite muster the same wit when there’s a little more truth to it on her end. Letters are stacked neatly, but shuffled aside as Lalwen talks about tea. Of course his little sister has Ñolofinwë wrapped around her words.

And his eyes oh-so brighten as he hears Anairë’s name. Since first he thinks her fair and to hear her speak is lovely too — when they’d danced his heart had fluttered and, though he wished, he thought she could not have been any more elated than himself. For how Nolvo had given in to Lalwendë’s prying; it must really fuel her smugness. But he finds himself disarmed by that prized rumor. 

“Really?” He stumbles back out after letting her overrun him with her answer. Still then, he’s back to his ‘feet’ fast. “Well, did you say anything?”

         “Mother says you shouldn’t lie, Nolvo,” she hums coyly, clearly up to no good. “And this is one piece of court gossip you’ll surely want to hear.” Drawing out the suspense, she perches herself on her brother’s desk, grinning all behind the ears.

           “I was at tea with a few of the other Court Ladies, and as soon as I heard, I knew I had to rush home and tell you! Apparently, Lady Anairë very much enjoyed dancing with you at the public ball. And she hopes to do so again quite soon.”

            Glancing down at her nails she seems almost smug. “I’ve heard her father is hosting a public ball tonight.”

    𝕰ven at a mutter it means much. For those are words he’d thought to hear, and yet not wanted. “Can I?” No, not in his heart nor in truth, Findekáno is certain. For the sake of his father and his siblings, even his cousins. And drawn to promises in a far land he is. 

“As you say my father goes, and I’m his eldest.” He looks at Findis, saying, knowing that so is she... yet, no son. He’s surprised by how his answer sounds, then. A little does his valiant heart sink, for that and all her answer, but he will not gainsay what he just spoke. “Neither of my brothers would be convinced,” and with them as ever his sister — he loves his mother but, “I can not stay.”
