When people said they want Iris to know that Barry is the flash i don't think they mean Iris to become barry personal cheerleader. Why isn't she working as a journalist!? She can even be a news presenter or anchorwoman.Or investigate.Why did they kill off her mentor last season.That storyline was promising until they drop it for the lame love triangle between Barry/Linda/Iris.Speaking of love triangle, enough of it.Just get to the point nicely.But what u gonna do it's a cw show. Why there is even a team flash!?Last season it makes sense,this season nah. Why they are turning Barry into a mopey dude!? Why they want to be like arrow so much!? What is the deal with all these crossovers!? Some of us don't even care for arrow. We are here for the flash and his mythology. The formula of one villain per week isn't working for me anymore. And 23 episodes it’s too much cos u have filler episodes.

The Flash’s most glaring issue has been its inability to make use of Iris despite all her potential.

In one episode Patty is given more development and story lines than Iris was given all of last season. Iris is the lead female character in billing, but not in how the show writes her. As much as I love The Flash, it’s a good example of Hollywood’s issues with diversity. Casting black characters isn’t enough. You have to give them story lines and treat them with importance. Shows like this often seem unable to develop more than one female character at a time. Caitlin at least has some flirtation with Jay, the weight of Ronnie’s death she’s still contending with, and already being a more integral part of the team. Which is more than I can say for Iris. The show has been feeling a bit claustrophobic lately, with very little seen outside of the workings of S.T.A.R. Labs. Having Iris work as an ace reporter finding out about other strange occurrences happening due to the breaches, new metahuman crimes, and giving the show a way to look at how the knowledge of metahumans is affecting the public works on multiple levels. It develops Iris as her own character and opens up the show a bit more. Because right now Iris is legitimately just standing around the labs looking beautiful and acting as Barry’s therapist.

These are all valid points. We still aren’t being given Iris’ POV on anything. I was happy with Iris in last night’s ep, but not because they have fixed everything I had a problem with in the premiere. I think some of this will be remedied next week as Mama West arriving pretty clearly signals the beginning of that arc. But there is a limit to our patience.

“The Flash” and Wally/Iris West

So apparently “The Flash” has cast Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West in a starring role for this season. This is very exciting news and I can’t wait to see him interact with Iris!

In the comics, Wally is Iris West’s nephew (the son of her significantly older brother). In the show, this exact relationship would be impossible it’s pretty clear that Iris has no known biological siblings.

So there’s only a handful of different explanations as to how Wally fits into all of this and how he’s related to Iris. The simplest explanation: In the TV show universe, Wally is Iris’s cousin (the son of one of Joe’s siblings). This would probably be the easiest way to introduce him. Another simple introduction: Wally is Iris’s biological half-brother (born through some sort of affair that Joe had, or an affair that Joe’s dead and barely mentioned wife had). That would be exciting as well.

Yet another explanation, however, is the idea that, given all the alternate timeline stuff that The Flash is dealing with at the moment, their version of Wally could actually be some sort of alternate universe gender-swapped version of Iris from another dimension. Anything is possible! I’m excited to see where they decide to go with it

The gag is if she had to work a regular job and went into a job interview with her hair like any of those above, she would be discriminated against. Not only for the colors, but the styles. Many companies have policies which largely effect black people only with appearance - Your hair would have to look “natural”. I recently went into a job interview and the woman interviewing me told me that I couldn’t dye my hair or wear my hair any colors that are unnatural to my skin tone. Meanwhile, I see white female employees in the lobby with burgundy hair and platinum blonde hair with black roots. Loud ass hair with dark eyebrows. A white person can dye their hair blonde or brown or black and the jobs won’t say shit because it can be “natural” to them and they can bend policies, a black woman with blonde hair can easily be discriminated or receive warnings to change her hair. My friend’s sister had locs and she was forced to chop hair off to get her job and she has to wear a wig.

Pearls are made for a specific client, and there are ‘hundreds’ of them. They’re something of a status symbol for the most important gems.

Pearls have an owner, to whom they are a fancy attendant or steward.

By extension: Pearl may have been attendant to Rose Quartz, if Rose was the original ‘pink diamond’ of Homeworld’s leaders, which definitely justifies her having a Pearl gemservant. That being the original basis for their relationship was something Pearl forever found it hard to break out of, and could’ve been referenced when Rose called her “my Pearl”.

Peridot calls herself “a Peridot”, confirming there are many of her type. And that Peridots are nowhere near the kind of status for Pearl ownership, so evidently being made a technician is fairly looked down on. This explains why she tries so hard to appear dominant over subtype/’traitor’ gems, especially Pearl in this episode, who she firmly believes is inherently lower class and less skilled than herself.

The war for Earth lasted for AT LEAST a thousand years????

Peridot admits to being made for a specific purpose and to excel at that purpose, also questioning Pearl’s specific ‘role’. She seems to take pride in her specialisation. She considers it demeaning that a Pearl could do a technical job to the same standard. Peridot is directly suited for supervising Kindergartens and was given the tools and knowledge for that job, and nothing else.

By extension: Pearls are by default non-combatants and non-skilled, with no real worth aside from showmanship. Our Pearl has learned a LOT to overcome the limits of her gemtype over the millenia. Since Pearl’s weapon takes the form of a spear, she could not have been made with an inherent weapon. Therefore either some gems do not have a weapon until they are trained to summon one, or our Pearl consciously attuned to a spear from whatever non-weapon she started life with.
