Kudos to the Small Power Producers
In USA, smaller power producers are giving the big companies a run for their money.
Customers have had their say, and according to a survey conveyed by Colorado Springs electricians (official website), have ranked these smaller companies higher than the big energy companies.
Factors considered include customer service, value of service, and price.

Cryptocurrency Regulation through Limited Electricity Supply
Practically everything requires electricity these days, and that includes bitcoin mining.
We know that China once attempted to outlaw cryptocurrency, and the attempt failed.
Now China wants to target Bitcoin miners by limiting their supply of electricity.
The problem is that China is one of the leading producers of Bitcoin in the world. And Bitcoin miners are consuming up to 4 gigawatts of electricity.
Most will probably agree that the action is as much about concerns about electricity usage, as it is about China鈥檚 continuing desire to restrict cryptocurrency.

Linemen and Public Service
Even the most seasoned linemen can sometimes be surprised by the havoc nature can cause.
That was what Duke linemen contended with in their efforts to restore power to Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
Trees felled, electrical poles strewn about, many in mountainous territory, were just some of the things they had to deal with.
Some 227 linemen were tasked to do the job, the volunteers coming from as far as Florida, the Carolinas, and the Midwest. Trucks and equipment were brought by barge, and the efforts went all-out to bring energy back to the U.S. territory after four months without power.
Their successful efforts were met with cheering, joy, and yes, even tears.
It鈥檚 almost frightening to think how completely dependent on electricity we now are. But it鈥檚 good to know that there are hundreds of professional volunteers willing to step in and restore power to these communities, one of such companies is a local electric repair company in Atlanta, go to their website for more information on how professional electricians can volunteer their time.

Quick Action - Electricity Power Transmission Stations
Even electricity power transmission stations need regular maintenance, too.
Hopefully, this is a lesson learned by the operators of the power station in Jeddah, when a fire broke out at the station in January of this year.
Thankfully, the fire was quickly put under control by the quick response of emergency personnel. It did, however, result in power outages in several districts.
Power was restored within 20 minutes, which many would agree is quick action, and a cause for praise.

Easier Access to Electrical Information
Information drives everything these days.
And that includes information and data from local electricity networks.
All this information is intended to be made more available to the public through mobile applications.
This is in line with the EU鈥檚 target to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent by the year 2020.
According to some electricians in USA greenhouse gas emission should get a lot worse with the upcoming de-regulations in USA.

Electricity From Trash
Have you ever wondered how we can get a leg up on solid waste management?
Convert the trash to electricity.
That鈥檚 what Dubai is aiming to do, with a Dh2.5-billion investment in a recycling facility that aims to convert 1.82 million tons of solid waste into 171 MW of electricity per year. It is expected that this recycling-power-generation project will supply electricity to some 120,000 households.
A very good idea, and hopefully one that will inspire other countries to follow suit.

Companies Shifting to Renewable Energy
T-Mobile is planning to shift to renewable electricity.
That鈥檚 good news. According to the CEO of T-Mobile, they plan to cut energy costs by $100 million because of this, which means, hopefully, that the lower costs will also translate to lower charges to its customers.
And, of course, there鈥檚 the environmental impact of shifting completely to wind power.
This shift is expected to be completed by 2021.

Electrical Projects Need to be Followed Through
It鈥檚 always good to hear about electrical projects in countries that do need more energy and more infrastructures, like Nigeria. Power generation in the country was recently reported to have dropped by as much as 357 Megawatts.
But proposed projects won鈥檛 help much if local contractors order and ship electrical equipment from overseas, and never claim them at port.
According to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), there are some 159 power equipment that were abandoned and stranded at the various seaports of the country.

Hydropower Electricity
Hydropower plants are one of the different possible sources of electricity. But did you know that hydropower plants are not always a feasible choice?
The reason is because hydropower plants may not be a reliable source of electricity during dry seasons.
Factor in, as well, the huge costs it takes to build a hydropower plant, which may not always be met with open arms by local residents due to expected environmental and even social issues.

The Cost of No Electricity
Electricity is so much in use these days that it is now considered a public utility, and to some, maybe even a basic right. After all, electricity means light, telecommunications, access to media like radio and television, even access to education. No electricity, on the other hand, means keeping people in the dark, both literally and figuratively.
Governments are responsible for providing people electricity, and to make sure that even far-flung areas without power are targeted by government projects to provide power sooner or later. But what happens when pleas for electricity go unnoticed for years? 聽The desire for electricity may be such that people attempt to service their own areas by making illegal connections.
This is what happened in Marikana, north of Pretoria, where unheard pleas for electricity have turned into a veritable network of illegal connections. The tragedy is that the illegal connections have resulted in miles of cables and exposed wires, which recently caused the death of at least two children by electrocution. Will Atlanta lower the prices of electricity ? Many think the prices are going to increase.

Lower, Not Higher, Demand for Electricity in the UK
Here鈥檚 something odd: electricity use in the UK is falling. Over the past seven years, in fact, the demand for electricity in the UK has declined by as much as 9 percent.
You would think it would have been the opposite, considering the steady growth in construction, industry, population, and the mass production and usage of electronic equipment and gadgets. Besides, electricity use seems to be rising elsewhere in the world.
Some of the reasons cited for this phenomenon include mild weather, a slowing economy, and the growing prevalence of energy-efficient appliances.
