Sliiightly unrelated, and I absolutely don’t mean this condescendingly (and I don’t mean to keep bothering you either, feel free to ignore ofc) — I’m just in the dark. When you say ‘Trade work’ and ‘learn a trade’… what do you mean by a trade? The only thing that comes to mind with ‘trade’ is being a plumber, woodworker, etc but I’m pretty sure that’s not what you meant ahejdydj
It is! Due to the push for young people to go to college and get jobs that utilize those degrees, the United States has actually seen a concerning decrease across the decades of people who are qualified to do trade work such as plumbers and electricians, etc. As a result, the population in those trades is aging quickly, and we are anticipating that there won't be enough people to do those jobs very soon. A lot of them are nearing retirement age. Thanks to that demographic shift, young people entering those trades are a very high demand, and in many areas, the pay for such a job can be like 50,000 a year, which can be a solid living wage on par with something like teaching. And in most cases, the apprenticeships are paid, which is definitely a consideration for people who don't want to deal with student loans.
@thisarenotarealblog, any input?

"YOU ELECTRICIANS GET OUT OF MY TREES!!"

My dad was an electrician. I had no desire to emulate him, because when I was little, to imitate him, I stuck a fork in an electrical outlet. I remember that it made noise and hurt. Hence, that career choice was never on the list.
Excerpt from this story from the Washington Post:
Over the past several years, the mantra of energy experts has been that we need to electrify everything — and then switch electrical power generation over to clean sources of power like wind, solar, geothermal and nuclear. Doing so will rapidly decrease carbon emissions and help to stave off dangerous levels of warming.
But installing all of that electrical stuff — the solar panels, the heat pumps, the transmission lines — will require something that the United States doesn’t have: lots and lots of electricians.
According to the nonprofit group Rewiring America, which focuses on electrification, shifting the economy away from fossil fuels will require no fewer than 1 billion new electrical appliances, cars and other items in American households alone.
“It’s a billion machines that need to be installed or replaced over the next 25 years across 121 million homes,” said Ari Matusiak, the CEO of Rewiring America. “There need to be significantly more individuals who are trained to install these machines — and one subset of that is electricians who are trained to put in breaker boxes, wire our homes, and connect devices to our electric sources.”
The problem is that many in the industry say the country is already in a state of electrician shortage — one that could get worse as clean energy ramps up. “We’re in an electrician shortage now,” said Sam Steyer, the president and CEO of Greenwork, a start-up that tries to connect clean energy workers with companies. Steyer says that homeowners attempting to install heat pumps or electric car chargers have already reported problems finding certified tradespeople to do the work that they need: Waiting lists sometimes stretch on for months.
Part of the issue is that more people are leaving the profession than entering it. According to the National Electrical Contractors Association, more electricians retire every year than are replaced. This is part of what is known as the “silver tsunami,” or a wave of tradespeople aging out of their careers and leaving a hole behind. There are around 700,000 electricians working in the country today, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that there will be around 80,000 new electrician jobs available every year until 2031 — and that most of those jobs will just be in replacing the existing workforce.

I cringe whenever I see this type of electrical connection.  Someone needed a 30 amp, 240-volt electrical receptacle outlet for a floor sanding machine.  Except for electric clothes dryers, that type of circuit is rare in residences.
To get power for the floor sanding machine, it is a common practice to remove a few circuit breakers, say a prayer, and then clip directly onto the main busbars without any fault and overload protection or personal protection equipment.  It is not electricians doing this; it is the floor-sanding people who should not put their hands into a live electrical panel.
I have also seen welders do this on commercial construction sites to get power for their electric welders.
The alternative is to have an electrician install a new circuit and electrical receptacle outlet for a few days of equipment use.

Simplify Your Home or Office with Full Wiring Service
Tumblr media
Introduction
In our technologically driven world, the importance of efficient and reliable electrical wiring cannot be overstated. Whether you are building a new home, renovating an existing space, or upgrading your office, ensuring your electrical system is properly installed and well-maintained is crucial. That's where full wiring service comes into play. In this article, we will explore the benefits and key aspects of a comprehensive wiring service, helping you make informed decisions when it comes to the electrical infrastructure of your property.
What is Full Wiring Service?
Full house wiring service involves a comprehensive approach to electrical installation, maintenance, and repairs. It encompasses all the electrical systems within a building, from power distribution and lighting to data and communication networks. Professional electricians with expertise in wiring analyze your property's electrical needs, design a tailored wiring plan, and execute the installation in compliance with safety standards and local building codes.
Benefits of Full house Wiring Service
Enhanced Safety: Faulty wiring is a leading cause of electrical accidents and fires. By opting for full wiring service, you significantly reduce the risk of electrical hazards, ensuring the safety of your property, loved ones, employees, and valuable assets.
Improved Energy Efficiency: Upgrading your electrical wiring can lead to greater energy efficiency, resulting in reduced utility bills. Modern wiring systems use advanced materials and technologies that minimize energy loss, maximizing the effectiveness of your electrical infrastructure.
Customized Solutions: Full wiring service provides you with the opportunity to customize your electrical system according to your specific needs. Whether it's installing additional outlets, incorporating smart home features, or integrating audiovisual equipment, professional electricians can design a wiring plan that meets your requirements precisely.
Future-Proofing: Investing in a full wiring service ensures that your electrical infrastructure is equipped to handle future technological advancements. With the rapid pace of innovation, having a wiring system that can support emerging technologies such as electric vehicles, renewable energy solutions, and home automation is essential. Key Aspects of Full Wiring Service
Initial Assessment: Experienced electricians conduct a thorough assessment of your property to evaluate the existing wiring, identify potential issues, and understand your specific requirements. This step helps in designing an effective wiring plan.
Wiring Design and Installation: Based on the assessment, electricians create a comprehensive wiring design that includes the layout, load distribution, and placement of outlets, switches, and other electrical components. Once the design is approved, they proceed with the installation, ensuring proper insulation, grounding, and adherence to safety protocols.
Upgrading and Retrofitting: If you have an older property, full wiring service can involve upgrading and retrofitting the electrical system to meet current safety and efficiency standards. This may include replacing outdated wiring, upgrading circuit breakers, and installing surge protection devices.
Integration of Smart Technologies: As smart home technologies gain popularity, full wiring service can integrate these features seamlessly into your electrical system. From smart lighting and thermostats to security systems and voice-controlled devices, professional electricians can incorporate these technologies into your wiring plan, making your property more efficient and convenient.
Conclusion
Investing in a full wiring service is a wise decision that not only ensures the safety and efficiency of your electrical system but also provides a solid foundation for future technological advancements. By working with experienced electricians, you can customize your wiring plan to meet your unique needs, enjoy increased energy efficiency, and make your property smarter and more convenient. Remember, electrical work should always be performed by licensed professionals to ensure compliance with safety regulations. So, take the first step towards a streamlined and reliable electrical infrastructure by opting for a full wiring service today.

Our electrician is a perfectionist. There was a maybe 2mm dip, maybe, in this conduit. It drove him crazy. I told him I’d be painting it all white tomorrow, so it will never be noticed.
He said he wouldn’t be able to sleep, and would wake us up in the middle of the night drilling in a new conduit hanger if he didn’t fix it now.
