why do you hate female characters? Imagine liking Jason but not Talia.
???
Ah yes cause its not like for a good couple years this blog wasn't dedicated partly to loving a green haired, bisexual dragon lady who runs a knock off Catholic Church in a Nintendo Video Game.
I dislike Talia because I find her poorly written, uninteresting and overall tends to bring down other characters she interacts with, primarily Bruce and Jason.
I like Jason because his story is compelling and when it is executed well it is one of the best character arcs in comics. I'll be the first to admit it's rarely executed well especially in more modern times HOWEVER even at its worst Jason was still more interesting and likeable.
I enjoy female comic book characters as well, Jason may be my favourite but he's not the only character I enjoy. I love Selina Kyle because her character exists outside of her relationship with Batman, something that can't be said for Talia, I love Stephanie Brown, I love Poison Ivy, at times I love Harley Quinn depending on the depiction.
This is the one and only ask relating to Talia I probably will answer because I've seen how her fans are, they don't care about genuine criticism towards her, they don't care that some people might just have different tastes, they almost always go for the worst take interpretation of why someone might dislike her and only interact to hurl insults and abuse. Thus from here on out I won't entertain them. I'll continue to dislike The League of Assassins, Talia, Ra's, Talia's Devil Spawn, etc. And they can continue to hate me and people like me for my opinions. They'll do so silently however cause I am more than willing to make liberal use of the block button.

It's kinda funny that the best League of Assassins episode in Batman the Animated Series is the episode that Talia isn't in. And to be fair Ra's is barely in it. And it was partly written by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm and all their episodes are good. That episode reads like they felt obliged to write a League episode but they really didn't want to so they took another story and just glued Ra's onto it and called it a day and it's the most interesting and ad close to humanised he's been this entire show.
Also when it comes to adaptations the best the League have ever been is still the Nolan Trilogy because they don't try and beat around the bush or sugar coat their villainy and despite Talia not actually loving Bruce in that universe it's still the most chemical Talia and Bruce have EVER had in any media which is ironic.

Ha I got called a Jason Todd haters cause I called the muzzle design ugly. Guess I need to go return all those Jason Todd comics I own, all the Red Hood merch I own and go get one of the Robin tattoos on my arm covered up cause obviously I'm not a Jason Todd fan cause I don't like a particular design for aesthetic and characterisation reasons.

You know what annoys me the most about the League of Assassins/Shadows/Ra's Al Ghul/The Al Ghul Family in general. Their utter hypocrisy that is rarely called out in canon.
The goal of the League of Assassins is to commit mass genocide in the name of saving the earth from humans overusing its resources, think Thanos from Marvel yet somehow even dumber and less interesting which is impressive cause we all know Marvel villains ain't great. However Ra's is sitting here lecturing Batman about greedy humans using up the earth's valuable resources while owning a Private Jet, multiple petroleum powered vehicles AND Ra's habit of using up Lazarus Pits (which are derived from a natural resource) like they are nothing.
Like at least Poison Ivy keeps herself on brand. Why the fuck am I meant to take the League seriously, sometimes to the point they even want us to believe Talia and Ra's (mostly Talia but to a lesser extent Ra's) aren't like actually horrible people when their first instinct is genocide all to solve a problem they hypocritically contribute to more than some of the people they seek to kill.
I noticed this while watching the 2 Parter that's basically adapting Ra's origin story from the comics and like... wow this man is both a hypocrite, uninteresting, not that threatening at all and all this while they want me to believe Bruce somehow has some sort of respect for these people? No sorry, not buying it.

Also going back to animated series Harley had made me realise how much I miss this Harley. Like yes she isn't a girlboss, she isn't role model, she isn't meant to be. But she was charming and loveable in her own way. Yes she was a victim, she made you want to see her get away from the Joker because she was so clearly being used and abused.
But modern takes on Harley just turn her into a loud, obnoxious, girlboss lesbian Deadpool rip off. Which is ironic cause Animated Series Harley was rarely overly loud, her jokes were well timed dry punchlines and she spoke with a soft voice even with her accent (which has only been exaggerated to 100 in more recent depictions).
I know characters grow and evolve but newer Harley just grates on me a lot, she's fine in some things but nothing will top the Animated Series Harley for me. Every time Paul Dini wrote her she was just peak.

Rewatching Batman the Animated Series and having a great time until a fucking Talia episode comes on. This is one of the worst written characters in all of Batman Lore and I am always annoyed by the fact she is unfortunately so intrinsically linked to the Bat Fam through the Devil Spawn and to a lesser degree Jason Todd that no matter how hard I try I can't get away from her. I have never read or seen anything she's in were she has chemistry with Bruce, normally she makes Bruce act incredibly OOC which is annoying and she isn't interesting in her own right because she's just always treated like an extension of the men around her (her father, Bruce, her son etc.)
Was literally about to stop my rewatch when her boring ass voice came on, was only saved by the next episode I watched being a Paul Dini Harley Episode.
Any and all Talia fans interacting with this trying to start an argument will be blocked so don't even bother, you guys make me hate her more than I already did anyway.

I love when people bring up something I said or did when I was in my teens/early 20s as if its a gotcha. Like my dude I am closer to 30 than I am that age do you really think pointing out I did/said stupid things when I was young is a gotcha?

Why do Jason Todd haters feel the need to proudly display it? I don't see Damian Wayne haters putting that in their names and bios yet its a semi regular sight for me when I stumble across Jason Todd haters. Do they think it makes them look clever? I dislike plenty of fictional characters but you don't seem me displaying that in my bio as if it's my entire personality.
Like maybe haters of other characters do it but if they do I don't see it anywhere near as often. Also it would be just as pathetic if it was a Damian hater doing it as it is when a Jason hater does it.
But actually I think that's exactly it. A lot of Jason Todd haters I see that is literally their entire personality. They'll tell you they're Dick, or Tim, or more often than not, Damian fans but they talk about Jason more than they talk about their favourites. As if its their entire personality. Now I won't pretend I ain't a tad hypocritical here considering my time in the 3Hs fandom but even then I talked about characters I liked, these people seem to exclusively post shit bashing Jason. Like my dudes no one can complain about Jason's writing more than Jason Todd fans trust me, we know he's often written badly nowadays, you aren't special by pointing that out. But also the whole Bat Family hasn't had the best of time with writing recently its not unique to Jason.
And for the Jason haters that hate the fact he keeps getting comic books well all that tells me is people keep buying said comic books so he's obviously a lot more popular than these people want to admit. Even if a part of me almost wishes he'd stop getting comics for a short time cause they've been that bad recently.

I've decided to rank some Jason Todd designs. He's had a few, so I ain't looking for all of them. Just the ones I remember off the top of my head.
This is my list, don't come at me if you disagree even though you're wrong cause I'm obviously right about this. Anyone wanting to start a fight with me about this can save yourself the time as I will be ignoring you.
Number 1
Tumblr media
There is no competition this is just peak Jason design, no others come close. There's a reason why Under the Red Hood movie used a variation of this design and not the UtRH comic design (which admittedly was not a bad design keep reading to see where that lands in this list), it's the design Wayne Family Adventures uses, it's the most cosplayed Jason design. It is just peak.
Number 2.
Tumblr media
People will say I'm cheating here. I'm not. Under the Red Hood comic confirms Jason did infact wear this outfit, in fact this IS Jason in this panel. It's half way through the fight when he swaps with Clayface.
What I like about this design is its throwbacks to Robin with the belt and the R symbol on his chest. I get that the trench coat was very much Hush's thing but Jason rocked it here. The white streak in his hair has become to popular that some fans don't realise it wasn't canon for a long time (I'm aware plenty of newer stories have him have the white streak, I think it's entirely up to the artist now which is kinda dumb shit like that should be mandated by the editors but whatever).
Overall I just like this design, I wouldn't necessarily want him to ever adopt it again but it was certainly very nice for what it was. And it's different without stripping Jason of all his identity since it references his Robin past.
Number 3.
Tumblr media
Oh I debated between this one and number 4 partly because they are very similar. I think this one is edged out 1. By that belt with the R which again is hinting at his past as Robin, something Jason was immensely proud of even if people want to pretend he wasn't. I'm aware they'll say it's R for Red Hood but that's why it works, it's his current alias' initials but R is Robin's symbol. And 2. This design is also just helped by the fact the art style is just very pretty and this particular Jason is just so god damn pretty, like he's gorgeous and I wish the story accompanying it was better.
Number 4.
Tumblr media
(Yes I'm using this picture, sue me)
Under the Red Hood. An actually pretty good comic story completely let down by a lot of the shit that came after it. BUT it gave Jason the glow up he deserved at the time. Sure its now far from peak as I've already shown what peak is but its solid. I wouldn't complain if suddenly Jason got another redesign and looked like this again. This is below 3 Jokers cause of the fact it looks very similar to 3 Jokers but 3 Jokers had the inclusion of the R Belt which I liked and 3 Jokers had a better art style in my opinion.
Number 5
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Arkham series had a particular style. I'm putting these together cause while they aren't the same design they are the same character, in the same game and I rank them somewhat evenly. Now Mask off Jason in Arkham is up there with 3 Jokers in terms of how much I like it. I always loved a sense of irony that despite being adopted and being the "fuck up of the family" Jason resembled Bruce so much and he really does resemble Bruce in Arkham. BUT these actual designs are both fine, nothing about them are amazing, I don't love them but they're OK and thats all they need to be.
Now I ain't even gonna number these cause well I'm sure there's maybe a couple dozen one shot or elseworld Jason designs out there that come before these two. Every version of Jason's Robin suit comes before these two. Gotham Knights with the mask off comes before these two (although I hate how the mask in Gotham Knights is cloth and not a helmet but I'm basically screaming into the void right now to try and get Jason's helmet back and designed properly).
Slightly Less Worse
Tumblr media
I've said what I have to say about this design, I hate it, I despise it, I get an angry twitch whenever i see it or whenever I see fans lusting over Jason's exposed arms or talking about how deep it is that he wears a muzzle now as if calling a character you're meant to like a wild animal is somehow a good thing. Like yes Bruce called him an animal, Jason then going and choosing to wear a muzzle is so wildly out of character I despise it. Jason is so fucking PROUD, like does he have some self doubts and self hatred? Yeah. But when it comes to Bruce and the rest of the Bats this boy is PRIDEFUL. He wouldn't go and deliberately "muzzle" himself just to make Bruce happy. Its dumb conceptually, it strips Jason of the uniqueness and individuality and it clearly exists to try and emulate the Winter Soldier since Civil War was coming out around that time. Some art styles make this design look OK but it still isn't a Jason design for me.
The Objective Worst One
Tumblr media
Kill it with fire! Just make it go away and never return. As I've said for all my utter dislike and distaste for the muzzle I will take another 100 issues of the muzzle and the crowbar if I could wipe this monstrosity from ever having existed. This design and the storylines that accompanied it almost did irreversible damage to Jason Todd as a character. That's why UtRH is not seen as being as good as it actually is because all the ground work set was instantly trampled by other writers and Grant Morrison was one of the main perpetrators. I will spare showing you what he looks like under the helmet cause that might very well be worse than the helmet. Jason went from being a at most 20 year old to looking like he was older than Bruce at times. Other times he looked like knock off Roy Harper. As I say anyone who wants to argue with me that Jason's canonically a ginger always uses this as proof and no I'm sorry Grant Morrison was someone who didn't believe in retcons and that everything was always canon which I mean I'd love for him to explain to me how Jason can both be a circus kid and a street kid stealing tyres but whatever. Jason Todd is a brunette, he was found on the streets by Bruce with black hair and no way of getting consistent hair dye, his father had black hair, his mother had blonde hair. Jason Todd is a brunette and this design and all the stories attached to it need to be wiped from collective consciousness.

I have found this just chilling in my drafts and well who doesn't want more of me bitching about Jason's design (2 of these are literally just that but hey there's some there that's not)
I likely have way more controversial opinions than this but considering this has been laying in my drafts unfinished for a few weeks now I can't be bothered thinking of more to add to here you go.
_____________________________________
Want more ot my controversial DC Comics (mostly Batman) takes? No? Too bad this is my blog.
Red head Jason Todd is a crime against humanity and fans who call for its return can eat my shoe. Jason's designs in DC Rebirth, Under the Red Hood movie and the Arkham series are all perfect blueprints for what Jason Todd should always look like. I don't need them to turn him into a Roy Harper clone (especially not now that Roy is literally one of Jason's best friends). Also the argument that red head Jason is canon bothers me since the origin in which he had red hair was quite quickly retconned and every version of Jason's actual canon origin story he's always had black or dark brown hair in it.
Wonder Woman is the actual darkest and most violent of the Trinity because she can and will go to places and do things Batman or Superman will not. That doesn't make them worse characters than her but the idea that Batman is the dark, gritty one is laughable when Diana will snap a man's neck. Diana has literally went to war, she has seen and done things her colleagues could only imagine.
Harley Quinn is not the most deserving of Batman's rogues gallery for a redemption arc and let's all be real if she wasn't attractive with a sad backstory she wouldn't be constantly being pushed in both the mainstream and the comics as more of an antihero than a villain. Mr Freeze and Poison Ivy are both better contenders for antihero status but they've both been tainted in the mainstream by the Schumacher film.
Back to bitching about bad Jason Todd designs but eh Red Hood should ALWAYS have a helmet. None of this half mask/domino mask bullshit with an actual hood up. The only time a Red Hood design with an actual hood up has looked good was Arkham. The peak Red Hood design is brown leather jacket, tactical vest underneath with red bat symbol, gun holsters in a similar colour to his jacket, military grade trousers with knee and shin guards, boots to match the jacket AND A RED HELMET. More New52/Early DC Rebirth Outlaws design and less Gotham Wars please and thank you.
Barbara Gordon should never have returned to being Batgirl. Now listen I love Babs, the Gotham Knights quartet of Dick, Babs, Jason and Tim are arguably my favourite group of characters in DC comics. But Babs as Oracle was iconic, I'm aware she's still doing her work as Oracle alongside Batgirl but I don't like that, it's making her juggle too much. Babs as Oracle almost put her on an equal or even greater standing than Bruce within the Bat Family. Like ok he was the patriarch of the Family, he started it but Babs RAN it, nothing got done in that family without Oracle's say so. And I just felt that her being paralysed by the Joker, yet still finding a way to work around her injury and continue to help fight crime in her own way, a way only she could was very empowering. Barbara Gordon was the role model young girls needed and while she is still that as Batgirl I think it was just that little bit more impactful as just Oracle.

I have seen the fucking Muzzle Jason Design in the wild again and the angry eye twitching happened and the only thing that stopped it was reminding myself it could be worse he could be Pill Helmeted Ginger Jason.... its the fact that design is in fact only a tiny bit worse in my overall Jason Todd designs.... think about that, that's how much I despise that Muzzle design on conceptual and SPIRITUAL level.
Because I know actually visually it's significantly better... for anyone not called Jason Todd/Red Hood. Give that design to a brand new character and I'd say its great. It's the fact we had PERFECTION and they ruined it and stripped Jason of all his unique characteristics and made him look so Generic Video Game Character like.
Just please DC give my boy his helmet back (and I do mean his Under the Red Hood/New 52/OG Rebirth Helmet, none of this Used Tampon looking shit) and his leather jackets. I can live with some of the rest (I will never like the crowbar but honestly I can argue against that one later, the helmet and jacket are more important to me).
It does actually shock even me how angry that design makes me because it is just proof to me that DC and to a lesser extent some of Jason's own fans fundamentally do not understand him at all.
For anyone who sees this and wants to argue with me on that design, don't bother I will ignore you.

So rereading the Killing Joke and the way some people take this comic so literally is quite frankly alarming to me.
Anyone who looks at the panels of the "flashback" of the Jokers life before being the Joker and believes it as all being fact is baffling to me. Some of these panels if you focus on the backgrounds are so clearly twisted and just that little bit wrong as to indicate we aren't meant to be taking this recollection as being 100% accurate. I think the broad strokes are probably accurate to a degree however I don't think the Joker was the victim he made himself out to be. I'm aware 3 Jokers basically says as much, that his wife never died and was taken away to protect her from him and he wasn't the poor victim who was twisted by "one bad day" (since Commissioner Gordon proves that is bullshit by managing to resist going mad after what the Joker does to Barbara and him) however I don't like the 3 Jokers implication that the acid is what made him into the Joker.
I always took it as he was already an abusive asshole, prone to moodswings and violence, already had a criminal streak if small time until the Ace Chemicals incident and the Acid Bath just ended up being that final push he needed. But if he hadn't fell there something, eventually would have resulted in hi becoming a full supervillain anyway because he was already not a particularly nice person.
I also think people be they fans and writers need to stop putting so much stock in this backstory. The Joker says himself he'd rather his backstory be multiple choice. The Joker is more effective and scarier when we don't know his history.
The Dark Knight is still the best execution of this concept I've seen where the Joker goes around telling different stories to different people about his scars. Showing that... we don't know anything about who he is, where he came from and really what he wants. That's what the Joker should be. Now in general that's not necessarily my overall favourite Joker adaptation but it is fascinating to me that Christopher Nolan understood this about the character and yet modern DC writers come out with shit like 3 Jokers which goes completely against that whole concept of not knowing anything about the Joker.

You know what really scares me about the Internet nowadays. How fucking comfortable some kids are to just display their names, ages and locations. Like I'm sorry but I don't want to be scrolling on Tiktok and see someone who's got their real name, their under 18 age in their bio and the town/city/state they live in just out there for everyone to know.
Like do we just not teach kids online safety anymore? I wasn't even hinting at my age online till I was at least over 18. Didn't show my face on here till even later.
Like I don't want to sound like that old person being all "Where's the parents" but eh... yeah Where's the Parents. Why am I seeing 14 year olds displaying their location to strangers on the Internet?
