âBuddy, do you know how hard it is for some people to get by? I guess you donât because youâve never had to struggle.â
âWell, maybe it they stopped being lazy, then it wouldnât be hard, but no. And just you so you, I did have my own struggles ok? and I still do.â Privileged brown kid struggles, but struggles not the less.
âLazy?â Typical rich kid privilege. It was all on the person struggling, not the system that created it. âOkay, but clearly you never had to struggle financially or you wouldnât be saying that. Jackass.â

Apparently the man had little idea of what he was talking about. He gave a small laugh before he took another drag from his cigarette and exhaled the smoke into the air. âItâs all right, man, donât worry about it.â At least he got one thing right, the guy was in a band. That had to be worth a few points. âAsh kids? Kids that dress in black.âÂ
Michael smiled before outstretching a hand. âMichael, and youâd be right.â
â I see⌠â Blixa retained a slightly confused frown at the expression he was unfamiliar with, but he added it to his mental dictionary of â strange English phrases â to remember later. He took a drag of his cigarette and leaned against the wall, lanky frame propped up with his bony shoulder.
â Michael. â He echoed, a slight sideways smile on his lips as he reached out to shake the otherâs hand, far more daintily  than his appearance would suggest.  â A  pleasure. So, what do you play? Are you also a musician that the⌠ash  kids like? â Â
He laughed, shaking his head. âNah, I donât think my bandâs music appeals to that scene.â Michael took another drag of his cigarette and let out a stream of smoke. âGuitar, mostly. A bit of piano, some drums, but the guitar is my pride and joy.â Countless hours he spent practicing until his fingers were ready to bleed, and it certainly paid off.Â

Michael smiled lop sidedly. âSure, why the hell not?â After the day he had, he could use a drink, hell with his weak self control, heâd likely end up drunk before the night was over, and a raging hangover the following morning, but that was rock stardom, baby. âYouâre welcome. Say, you look familiar. Arenât you from one of those gothic bands that ash kids listen to?â
BLIXA STARED quizzically at him as he lit his cigarette. â âGothicâ bands? â He wasnât entirely sure what genre of music his group qualified as, but he shook his head and exhaled smoke as he said, â No. Just a band⌠â Confusion was still present in his eyes while his brain temporarily glitched in itâs understanding of English. Not drunk enough. â What are âash kidsâ? I havenât heard this saying before⌠Well anyway, it doesnât matter. Iâm Blixa. And youâŚ? You have the look of a musician too. â

Michaelâ flicked his zippo and lit his cigarette before taking a long drag. It had been a rather strenuously busy day, full of photoshoots, interviews, and other shit. Much as he liked where he was and the fruits of his labour, he couldnât deny it could be exhausting and any quiet alone time he got for himself was precious and well savoured.Â
As he stood outside the small club, he noticed the other man and gave a small nod of acknowledgement. âWant a light?â
BLIXAâS LIGHTER produced nothing but useless sparks that ignited nothing but internal rage. His comedown was making him agitated anyway, and he simply longed for some form of poison to absorb into his deteriorating body. Good fortune smiled upon him in the form of another male whoâd presumably come outside to temporarily escape the wall of noise from the club as well, but more importantly â he had a lighter.
â Thanks, â  Blixa said as he approached, and he leaned against the wall, piercing blue eyes studying the other. â You look like youâve had an even longer day than I have. Buy you a drink? To sayâŚÂ â thanks ââŚÂ â

MIDNIGHT MASS SENTENCE STARTERS  â  quotes pulled from the 2021 netflix limited series. feel free to make alternations.
i know iâm not who you expected to see this morning.
you arenât a good person.
i loved you my whole life.
do you feel at peace?
i have absolutely no purpose at all.
look at us, back where we started.
god doesnât love you more than anyone else.
i would go anywhere in the world with you.
it might come down to just minutes, maybe seconds.
everyone gets theirs wings clipped at some point.
iâm sorry that we never told you.
just tell me what you need.
donât tell me what to do.
iâm sorry for what youâve been through. iâm really, really sorry.
we donât have to be afraid ever again.
youâre here and that is enough.
iâm not scared, not of you.
you never felt like a sin.
this isnât the way. this is never the way.
i learned early thereâs no point trying to stop you drinking.
he said to run.
it just felt too easy to leave, like i shouldnât be able to just leave.
did it hurt you?
i never remember my dreams.
we made our choices.
i just need you to listen. can you promise me that?
everything has its season.
iâm tired of you lying to me!
our whole lives have been wasted.
it isnât about us anymore.
thatâs not how god works.
i forgive you.
forgive me.
i did my best.

" yes, i think weâve met before. "
SET YOURSELF ON FIRE SENTENCE STARTERSÂ â Â lyrics pulled from the 2004 album by STARS. feel free to make alterations.
Michael lowered his glasses. "Have we? Sorry, kid, I don't recognize ya." Being a public figure, he met plenty of people and they all tended to blur into one blurry mass. Interactions were often short and sweet, not long and heavy.

SET YOURSELF ON FIRE SENTENCE STARTERSÂ â Â lyrics pulled from the 2004 album by stars. feel free to make alterations.
god, that was strange to see you again.
yes, i think weâve met before.
all of that time you thought i was sad, i was trying to remember your name.
i chose to feel it and you couldnât choose.
live through this and you wonât look back.
thereâs one thing i want to say, so iâll be brave.
you were what i wanted.
iâm not sorry i met you.
iâm not sorry itâs over.
your face is all that hasnât changed.
all i want is one more chance.
all i want is one more chance to show you you were right for me.
you were right for me.
i had six too many drinks last night.
i always wanted you.
you said you didnât understand me.
letâs leave them all behind.
they hated us with everything they had, and we hated them in kind.
how could you do it?
yes, i am a ghost.
i loved you the most.
did i build you a prison?
please donât let me go.
you canât walk away from me.
i know a place where itâs warm and itâs dry, dear.
let me take you there.
donât pretend that you donât feel the pull.
i am trying to say what i want to say without having to say âi love you.â
i love you and itâs impossible to say.
take me like that, ruin it all.
please, my love, please.
iâll kill who you hate.
take off that dress, you wonât freeze.
the end should be a good one.
outside, it was pouring and we were drunk as shit.
there is nothing like bare mattresses underneath the stairs.
iâve got to ask you one more thing.
keep doing that forever.
i know, i feel the same way as you.
everyday, itâs changed since then.
in every way, iâve changed since then.
what gives you the right to fuck with our lives?
keep watching your back.
tomorrow, itâs you and me.
we are here to save your life.
it terrifies you, but itâs real.
if i donât come back, then i wonât look behind me.
all of the things that i thought were so easy just got harder and harder each day.
stay alive.
i dreamed i was dying.
i canât live forever.
iâm alive.
