It’s still absolutely insane to me that Suzanne Collins gave Katniss and Peeta monikers "the girl on fire" and "the boy with the bread" then proceeded to base the entire marriage ceremony of District 12 on….. you guessed it!, fire and bread.

One of the things that made the difference for Katniss and the second rebellion in general was that Peeta had the strong moral conviction of Sejanus but the cunning of Snow.

Just thinking about how Astrid was expected to marry someone from town but fell ell in love with and married a guy from the seam instead.
Similar to how everyone expected Katniss and and Gale to get married eventually only for Katniss to fall for Peeta, the baker's son from town.
#the hunger games#sunrise on the reaping#everlark#like mother like daughter#they don’t like conformity#Katniss loves being a daddy's girl but she does share some traits with her mom#katniss everdeen#peeta mellark#astrid march

Harry Appreciation Post
- He witnessed/survived all the Unforgivable Curses
- Endured an abusive family
- Lost so many father figures
- He was mistreated but was still kind
- Witnessed people die in front of him but stayed strong
- He’s selfless and powerful

People who think Harry is a weak protagonist should reread the 23rd chapter of the Half-Blood Prince

i’ve seen this point made a bunch of times now so i thought i’d address it very quickly, uh … the fact that harry and ginny have both had voldemort inside their head is not what makes them a good pairing.
i get that this sort of argument usually comes from people who support hinny, and i get your good intentions, i do, but there’s a fine line between “the fact that they share this trauma strengthens their bond” and “this is what creates the bond to begin with”.
harry and ginny don’t fall for each other because they share trauma. that’s not what makes them soulmates. they fall for each other - and they are soulmates - because they’re both funny, passionate, kind, and courageous people who have great chemistry and a romance built on a strong ass friendship.
the fact that they share this kind of trauma helps them connect, yes - and it was likely especially important after the war, when they struggled with ptsd and grief, all while rebuilding their relationship. that they understood each other on such a deep level helped tremendously and strengthened their bond, yes.
but to say that their shared trauma is their bond … sort of implies the other’s trauma is what they fell for in the first place. which isn’t true. at all. they got a lot more going for them than that.

“Harry and Ginny are real soul mates. They’re both very strong and very passionate. That’s their connection, and they’re remarkable together. Ron and Hermione, however, are drawn to each other because they balance each other out. Hermione’s got the sensitivity and maturity that’s been left out of Ron, and Ron loosens up Hermione a bit, gets her to have some fun. They love each other and they bicker a bit, but they enjoy bickering, so we shouldn’t worry about it.”
—
J.K. Rowling (link)
JKR wrote Ron & Hermione as balancing each other out, so their ending is the right one. I agree with it, It fits the narrative and characters. It’s something that can’t be changed. Though admittedly they never got called soul mates, unlike Harry & Ginny.
Souls are a real and tangible thing in the Potterverse(s), so as JKR wrote and confirmed Hinny as soul mates, it makes them set in stone. There’s no way it can ever be got around that as “real soul mates” they belong together, and they were literally made for each other in every sense <3

it’s always bothered me that people try to argue that harry/ginny and ron/hermione can’t end in marriage because “they’re high school sweethearts!!! they can’t get married!!”
oh right i didn’t realize that your average high school sweethearts fought in wars and were tortured and watched friends and mentors and relatives die together; i guess all that pda is some kind of clever ruse for secret double lives in the military

when you think about it all the language that jkr uses to describe ginny through harry’s perspective is so poetic. harry tends to be rather blunt in his descriptions of other people but with ginny he watches her as the hogwarts express leaves, he compares her blush to “glowing like the setting sun”, he’s willing to go into the chamber of secrets if there’s the “faintest, slimmest, wildest chance” ginny might be alive, he watches her eyes in the firelight, he describes her as “windswept”, and all this is before he even realizes he likes her. harry always describes her blazing hair and blazing looks, she is “his best source of comfort”, kissing her is blissful oblivion and better than firewhiskey, he’s “happier than he could remember being in a very long time” and even when they break up he wants nothing more than to be with her, to comfort her in times of trouble, he pines over ginny and hopes he knows he’s thinking about her, when he’s about to die he thinks inexplicably of her, he wants days and months and maybe years with this girl okay harry potter is infatuated with ginny fucking weasley and you can see it in the way he talks about her

Ginny cannot hide her love for Harry, and he uses a very telling choice of words to describe this love. It is easiest to call Ginny's feelings for Harry a crush on him, but Harry and JKR see it differently. He says she is "very taken with" him. There is nothing shallow, juvenile or insincere about being very taken with someone, and it most certainly does not work for a fangirl with a crush on a celebrity hero. A far better example of a fan with a fame-based obsession with Harry is Colin Creevey. He follows Harry around, he takes pictures, he's always trying to get Harry to talk to him, and Harry is constantly annoyed with him. Ginny is quite the opposite: she is quiet, shy, and gives Harry his space, and he holds nothing against her.

Easily one my many favorite statements from this essay. I know I’m probably spamming everyone with these comments, but I just could not agree more.
This is so beautiful!

friendly reminder that when hermione was uber-heartbroken and crying her eyes out over ron leaving every night, harry never once tried to comfort her or even really speak to her and instead he spent every night staring at ginny’s dot on the marauders map and pining for her. yeah that is definitely the guy for hermione. so emotionally receptive to her feelings. such equals. what a good match.

I was rereading the Deathly Hallows for the billionth time and came across this gem:
“This scant news made Harry want to see Ginny so badly it felt like a stomachache; but it also made him think of Ron again, and of Dumbledore, and of Hogwarts itself, which he missed nearly as much as his ex girlfriend.“
HARRY MISSED GINNY MORE THAN HOGWARTS.
It’s canon. We all know Harry loves Hogwarts endlessly and considers it his first home. This sense of belonging is so strong and repeated throughout the books. So that’s why it is a BIG deal when Harry confesses he misses Ginny more than he misses Hogwarts. He wanted to see her so badly IT FELT LIKE A STOMACH ACHE omg my poor baby he watched her little dot on the map for hours i can’t
Harry loves Ginny Weasley more than he loves his first real home and place of belonging #Confirmed.

harry potter: defeats serial killer when he is a baby, prophecized to be the only one capable of saving the world, never ridden a broom before but can ride like a pro when he is 11, youngest person to make the house quidditch team in a century, can make a patronus when he is 13 something many adults still can’t do, at 15 is SO charismatic and SO skilled in magic that he starts teaching his peers in his own ~classroom~, saves the fucking world at 17
ginny weasley: pretty, popular, athletic, brave, cares about people
fandom: ginny is such a mary sue. tbh harry has to be an unreliable narrator because no girl can be that amazing. i don’t buy ginny as a real person at all tbh.
