Jaden was a master at well-placed moments, Yusei was quick to find out during his little stay with the YFA. He had just checked his mail — in the tiny secured mailbox outside of his apartment (clearly Yuto spared no expense at trying to keep Yuzu safe.) when he had just received Jaden’s call.

Inside were a fair deal of letters, that Yusei took gentle care in taking out and looking through as he walked back inside of the apartment he was borrowing.

Some of them were simple — just replies from invited he had sent out, and some were companies asking him to be invited to the party — how bold they were! But one letter stuck out the most.

It was a letter from one of the already accepting and RSVP’d members of Yusei’s little party — an invitation to attend a party of their own. A ball.

Yusei in response to receiving the letter did what anyone would do of course and discussed it on call. And in response, Jaden was his usual teasing self — going on about Plus Ones and who the lucky guy or girl would be. Yusei chuckled, and revealed the truth.

“I’m single… Just in case you don’t know.”

Jaden’s chuckle and how he worded his response caused a smile to come on Yusei’s face, a chuckle leaving him on his end as he… decided to treat himself to a sort of… break. He had been working hard, after all.

“Who knows,” Yusei’s quick to say, leaning against his desk as his work was pushed aside for this one moment. “… The truth is, my interest in romantics is… minimal. I’m… not one to fall for people quickly. If at all.”

That’s what he had defined himself as for ages… and yet… Yusei was questioning if exceptions to those rules could be made.

Jaden took that chuckle as a good sign – that it was okay to keep distracting him for just a little while longer. He knew Yusei had a lot of catching up to do thanks to Yuzu's... departure, but if there was anyone who could do it, then it was Yusei!

The agent hummed at his answer, nodding slowly as he pondered over what Yusei's life must have been like before meeting the YFA. Obviously, he already had a fair idea, given that he had to do a proper background check on the guy before letting him become a member officially under Yuto's orders, but looking up information on a screen was very different to seeing it in real life.

He would know from personal experience.

"Mm I getcha," Jaden answered, his brown eyes shifting to the bunch of code on his computer before him. He was already falling behind on his work, but ehh... he could do that later. "I don't think I've ever had the chance to fall for anyone before. My work doesn't exactly give me much time to date."  And as if on cue, his computer beeped with a message popping up on the bottom right corner of the screen. Ahh... it was from Yubel. What fun.

Get back to work. The boss is going to be pissed if he finds out you're slacking off again.

Aaand nope. He wasn't in the mood for that. So by placing his phone between his shoulder and his ear, Jaden quickly typed his response.

Kinda busy k bye!! ＼(￣▽￣) 

Oh boy he was gonna get an earful for that from her later, but in that moment Jaden didn't really care; he was far too focused on the conversation at hand with the new party coordinator and didn't want to ruin their fun.

"So whaddya gonna do about the ball?" Jaden continued, holding the phone properly in his hand again. "You've gotta go – it'll help increase the YFA's rep if you do, but you definitely shouldn't go alone. You're still kinda in danger with that hacker guy." He took a moment to ponder over who Yusei should take with him, humming quietly on the phone. All of the members would be fine going with him – that wasn’t the issue. The problem was that most of them couldn't provide proper security, except for Kaiba, but somehow that just... didn't sit right with him.

And after looking at his work one final time, an idea struck and a smirk slowly spread across  Jaden's face.

“Let me go with you! What better way to stay protected than by having a secret agent by your side? And I'm the funny one out of the group, which means you get a guaranteed offer of having a good time!"

With an upper cut shouted in the cold, brunt gust of a Blizzaga spell, with a puff of smoke another heart rose into the sky as Yusei Fudo kept his teeth barred as he was not giving up against the Heartless that surrounded him and his companion. After a glance behind him, with the quick aim in blue eyes, he swiped behind him and freed another heart — and by switching his key blade quickly to his other arm he killed yet another, sweat sliding down his face as he panted against the fight.

He yelled, suddenly, after taking more breaths as he swung his keyblade down — another heartless down, and another pink light rising into the sky, before he was stuck without a break as he was rushed back to protect Jaden from a heartless that was close to punching him in the face with an arm pulled back. Surrounded, with no way to escape… and he was stubborn in that he would have to face the beings of darkness itself alone.

Yusei was quick to jump back to protecting Jaden directly, meeting pushback from the Heartless army easily. His brows furrowed, as the situation didn’t seem to be in his favor, but… he’d fine a way. After all… he had—

— The familiar rush of magic summoning one’s weapon to one’s hand reached Yusei’s ears. Once again, he spared one blue eye to gaze at his back — to be greeted with a weapon he had seen many times before. A gasp leaves him, hands still tight, but wavering, against his own Stardust as he held it tight.

… Jaden had called out his keyblade.

A gasp leaves Yusei in an instant, blue eyes going wide as his heart grew cold and worry filled his chest.

“What the—?! Jaden!! You were so afraid of using your power… for your darkness!! Why now?! Why now, against the army of Heartless?!”

With a blink, he turned his eyes back to the battle — allowing the sharp white with blue scales of the tip of his keyblade to grow yellow and red with flame, yelling out as a fire dart shot out through the Heartless, killing six of them all in formation (as “in formation” as heartless can get) with ease. That would take care of it enough to find out what was going on — allowing him to turn his eye onto his partner.

Just in time to hear his rallying cry.

“I’m not leaving you to fight alone!”

“Jaden—! Don’t hurt yourself, I—!”

— Unfortunately, reaching out to try and protect his partner left him open for attack — and a Heartless used that to it’s advantage to slash it’s claws into Yusei’s chest, causing him to yell out as he stumbled upon his legs, falling to a kneeling stance as the heartless continued to surround them. With his pulse a reminder of the blood flowing through his chest — aching with the wound he was just given, blue eyes were raised back up towards the army of darkness, as Yusei let out an enraged snarl.

The Heartless, as unorganized and poorly put together of an army they were, continued to shift and surround them in the battlegrounds — not yet taking the chance to attack them again as the one that had bothered to make the attempt was lost in the sea of the others. Unrecognizable and forgotten as Yusei was left to generalize the horde truthfully as his enemies. He had had enough. He dug his boot into the dirt and pushed himself up onto his legs, his keyblade still held firmly in his hands.

The elder of the two straightened his back, standing straight as he proceeded to lift his arms over his head — along with his keyblade. Yusei had no time to lose — once he had his keyblade held up where he wanted it, he slammed it down into the ground, the point buried deep in the dirt as a sharp chime came from the weapon — growing in volume as it expanded into an ambient sound — a song, growing higher in pitch as Yusei held on as a wind blew with it’s power — eyes closed…

“Clustering wishes will become a new shining star… Become the path its light shines upon!”

— Wings appeared to fold out and spread widely underneath Yusei’s hands, as the blade continued to shine with it’s light — it’s song continued as it audibly sparkled — becoming too bright to see…

“I summon you!!”

— Yusei opened his eyes despite the bright light that grew to surround both him and Jaden as Yusei allowed his hands to break free from the blade — as if they were never holding anything in the first place. Now kept as powerful fists by his side, the keyblade warrior screamed something out into the light, unheard as silence surrounded them once the song faded away — only light remaining.

The light soon began to fade — and form. It formed a head shaped like a spear and striking yellow eyes — teeth and silver scales that shined in the light the beast was born from. Light pooled to form powerful silver claws that seemed to already be buried in the dirt, and a tail that was curled around Yusei and Jaden before the two were even aware, or perhaps… Yusei was. The light surrounded this new… dragon — as it cried out and beat it’s wings and stretched them out further to intimidate the Heartless surrounding them.

“… Please.” Yusei spoke, head hung low and towards the ground as his battle-worn back still faced his partner. His keyblade had gone. “Don’t hurt yourself here…”

With two steps, a saddened face, and the wind created by the dragon’s sheer presence, he turned to face Jaden, as with a growl deep within the beast’s throat as it protectively towered over them, it curled it’s wings inward — surrounding them in a canopy. Safe.

As much as they were safe, however, more cries from the dragon Yusei had called forth had made it obvious that there was still very much a war that awaited them — wit shadows and Heartless falling to the dragon’s maw, roar, and shooting blast of stardust-flame.

But regardless of what awaited outside; drowned out thanks to the curtain-like wings of his dragon companion, Yusei kept his eyes on Jaden.

“You don’t have to with me.”

Jaden didn’t blame Yusei in the slightest for being confused by his own actions; he had been hiding from the darkness for so long, desperately trying to run away from his past actions with the tainted light as it threatened to take over him. The young wielder had sworn that he would never use his keyblade again, and yet here he was – his Neos keyblade in hand with darkness looming around the tips of the blade. And yet… as terrified as Jaden was having darkness near him again, it… didn’t seem like it wanted to harm him anymore. If anything, Jaden felt in control of the powers within him.

Of course the threat of it taking over hadn’t faded, but for now… Jaden was okay. He could do this.

“Jaden—! Don’t hurt yourself, I—!”

“Yusei!” Jaden gasped as his brown eyes shifted their gaze to see Yusei get slashed in the chest by a daring Heartless. Damn it…! He should have been more careful keeping Yusei safe! He had barely been out on the fighting force again and he had already gotten his dear partner injured! Jaden… Focus..!

“Haah!” He cried out, not letting that Heartless get away with its attack as the darkness of Jaden’s keyblade mixed in with the blue aura of a Blizzaga spell, sending the Heartless flying into the battlefield. But as satisfied as Jaden was that he had managed to pull off an attack, the Heartless didn’t care; they just kept on coming wave after disorganised wave.

How were they supposed to fight this many? If they had a few more on their team then at least it would be a fair fight, but with just the two of them? They… They were doomed, weren’t they? Jaden was still scared and Yusei was getting so tired trying to fight and protect him all at once…

They had to survive this, but… how?

Yusei’s snarl quickly caught Jaden’s attention, his concerned brown eyes watching over his partner’s every move to make sure he wasn’t too badly injured. But before he could ask if he was alright, Yusei had slammed his keyblade into the ground, and begun a magic spell that would dazzle everyone away.

“Clustering wishes will become a new shining star… Become the path its light shines upon!”

Jaden’s eyes widened as he realised just what kind of spell Yusei was pulling of – it was a summoning spell. He had heard about them a million times when studying all the different kinds of spells keyblade magic had to over,  but he had never seen one before – not in person, anyway. His mouth was wide open, but Jaden didn’t say a single word, not wanting to disrupt or distract Yusei from his big moment. Instead, Jaden stayed on guard in the bright light, attacking any Heartless that dared to jump forward and ruin his summoning technique. He wanted Yusei to pull this off – he wanted to see what special power Yusei had lurking within him and his keyblade.

Finally the light became too much for Jaden to take, and with Yusei’s loud scream, Jaden clenched his eyes shut tight, hoping and praying with everything he had within him that every thing would be okay – that Yusei would be able to summon what he had worked so hard for and that maybe… they would have a chance at surviving this mess they had found themselves in.

Suddenly, the harsh light started to fade, and Jaden could find it in himself to open his eyes, blinking a couple of times to get use to it before he was met with-… a dragon?! If Jaden and Yusei weren’t in a fight for their very lives, he would have gushed about how gorgeous the sight of the dragon with shimmering stardust wings was, but… now really wasn’t the time for flattery; it was time for fighting.

“… Please. Don’t hurt yourself here…”

Jaden’s gaze fell to Yusei’s saddened face as his brown hair blowed in the breeze thanks to the dragon’s wings.

No… he hated seeing Yusei look so upset, especially when it was all to protect him. It wasn’t right…

He felt the canopy surround them, and Jaden let his own keyblade disappear so he could cup Yusei’s cheeks in his hands, his own eyes meeting the sadness in an ocean of blue.

“You don’t have to with me.”

Jaden shook his head, not letting Yusei say anything more along those lines. He wouldn’t take it.

“Yusei…” Jaden whispered, stroking Yusei’s cheeks gently with his thumbs, concern lingering in light brown eyes before he decided to lean up on his tip toes and rest his forehead against his lover’s own. “Either we run or we fight. Those are our choices, but know that no matter what we choose in this moment… I’m gonna be right here with you.

We’re doing this together, okay? I’m not goin’ anywhere.”

The Stardust in Your Eyes

“Oi, follow me.”

“Huh? What is it? O-…Oi, Yusei…!”

Jaden didn’t have a chance to tell him to wait up as Yusei started to walk, leaving the Slifer to stare after him in confusion. He only waited for a moment before saying “hey what the hell” and running off to catch up to him. Jaden had no idea what Yusei was planning or where they were even heading, but hey! He was up for an adventure; he always had to be if he had ended up here in the first place, right?

The immortal duelist took a look around them as they walked, not saying anything as they left the subway, although he had to admit he was rather curious as to where they were going. This was the first time the two of them had been alone like this in a while, what with Yusei preparing to leave Satellite and everything.

Yet as they approached the abandoned building, Jaden couldn’t help but speak up, thanks to his curiosity getting the better of him.

“Wait… Yusei where are we—…?”

“You’ll see.”

Aaand that was that, apparently. Alright then, Yusei – keep him in suspense; Jaden had always been a fan of your little games – long before you had met him in this timeline.

As the two duelists entered the building, brown eyes filled with curiosity gazed up to see endless stairs decorate the inside. … Whoa. That was a lot of stairs. The Slifer graduate couldn’t stop himself from letting a quiet curse under his breath as they started to make their way up the mountain of stairs, but he had no trouble keeping up. Yubel’s powers had always been an advantage, especially when it came to stamina. Hell, he knew he could probably jump from this building and land flat on his feet and be just fine – it wouldn’t be the first time.

But hey – even though he was keeping up with Yusei, that didn’t mean he didn’t appreciate the couple of breaks he was given or Yusei’s encouraging smile – especially that damn smile. That smile could make Jaden do anything.

Jaden let out a few pants once they finally made it to the top of the stairs, tilting his head slightly once he saw the door, but before he could question what they were doing up here, he was easily distracted by Yusei’s smile once again.

“Jaden. The barren and destroyed Satellite has it’s own wonders. I wanted to share this one… before I reach the city.”

Jaden didn’t say anything in return; he just let out a light hum with a nod of his head and a big grin on his face, letting Yusei know that he was ready and eager to see what he had to show him. He was excited!!

And whoa was it worth the wait.

Chocolate eyes widened as he stepped out onto the roof, completely taken away by the stunning view. His mouth opened a little, but he continued to follow Yusei until they got to the centre of the roof and matched his gaze as they looked up together and saw the explosion of stars in the night sky.

“Wow…!” Jaden gasped lightly, smiling bright as he was utterly stunned, laughing a little as he enjoyed every single star that twinkled in the ocean of midnight blue.

“Our lights may have burned out… but these lights are ours. The sky is clear without Neo Domino City’s lights.

It’s beautiful… Right?”

“God, Yusei, it’s gorgeous!” He grinned, his own soft brown locks blowing in the gentle breeze. “I haven’t seen a view like this in years! It’s amazing!” With a soft hum leaving his lips, Jaden sat down on the roof and pat the spot next to him for Yusei, offering to give their legs a rest after all the stairs. He wasn’t sure how long they were allowed to stay here, but with Yusei here… Jaden didn’t want to leave – not for a long time. He just wanted to relax and bask in this breathtaking moment with the one who held his heart… even if he didn’t know that just yet.

“Heh… This view kinda reminds me of home. Sometimes you end up forgetting how much you miss a sight like this until you see it again after a long time of being without it.”

Yusei's gentle touches against his thigh and sweet whispers worked wonders to help Jaden ease into the new sensation of being with his loved one. He nodded at Yusei's words, letting out a quiet hum as he did what he could to relax. It was definitely a lot easier said than done, but Jaden was trying his best.

With Jaden's request out of the way, curious chocolate brown eyes lifted their gaze to meet Yusei's own deep galaxy blue eyes as the college senior leaned over him, feeling a throb below from the sight alone. He was so distracted just by how gorgeous Yusei was that he nearly missed what he had to say.

“A-… alright… please— stay with me. I haven’t—… done something like this before…”

Jaden just smiled, lifting a hand up to gently caress Yusei's cheek, his thumb briefly touching his lover's mark.

"Hey... It's okay..." He whispered, leaning up to give Yusei a quick kiss. It was short and sweet, but Jaden didn't mind; he had more to say anyway. "This is new for the both of us. Just being with you like this has already felt amazing, Yusei. I'm so happy that I get to share this with you."

"I’m sorry… if I harm you. Jaden.”

"Shh..." Jaden leaned in closer, pressing his forehead briefly against Yusei's own, "I know it's not on purpose. I love you, okay? Nothing's gonna change that. Please... Keep going." And with those last words, Jaden eased back into the couch, moving his hand away to grasp at the cushions once more, only to feel Yusei's own hand grab onto his wrist. He looked over at his hand for a moment before gazing up at Yusei once again, a nervous smile on his face, silently thanking his lover for the gesture; it definitely came in handy when Jaden finally felt Yusei's two fingers inside him, pushing their way through.

"Nngh..!" Jaden grunted, turning his head to the side as his eyes clenched shut. He couldn't stop himself from hissing softly as Yusei pushed further into him, testing what he could and couldn't handle. Jaden didn't think another finger would make that much of a difference, but fuck he was wrong. Each push further made Jaden squirm slightly from the sharp pain that shot through him, but he was thankful that Yusei was taking it slow. Even if it hurt, Jaden didn't regret this at all. He wanted this with Yusei. A bit of pain wasn't going to stop him.

Jaden felt Yusei move his hand away from his wrist and was ready to whine in response before feeling the light touches to the rest of his arm. Okay – okay that was fine. As long as Yusei was still touching him in some way then everything was fine; he just didn't want to lose that contact – not when Jaden needed it most.

“Relax... Relax. I’m here….”

A hitched breath left Jaden's lips as he opened his eyes, his heart skipping a beat from Yusei's voice being so close to his ear, breaking through any pain Jaden felt. The words alone were enough to make Jaden ease up a little bit, but he was still rather tense against the new touches.

“I—… I want you. Jaden… that’s what this is for.”

Jaden started to whine at Yusei's loving words before it was cut off with another hiss as Yusei continued to push through, testing Jaden's limits.

"Aaagnn..." Jaden whimpered out, doing his best to take it easy when–– oooh hello. Those kisses were nice. The college student let out a quiet moan at the kisses, arching his back slightly as he tried to focus on the distracting kisses instead of the pain in his ass.

“Please… think of that. Think of me inside of you… I won’t hurt you. I promise. I—… I’m doing my best…”

"I–... I'm trying, Yusei..." He moaned, shifting slightly in Yusei's hold as he lifted one hand up to grasp onto his lover's shoulder. Think of Yusei inside him? Oh yeah you can bet Jaden was doing that alright. It wasn't too hard considering it was something Jaden had pictured a few times before. He had always imagined what it would be like, but the Yusei in reality was blowing away all of Jaden's expectations already. Yeah, some parts of it hurt, but Jaden knew it wasn't intentional and that it would be so worth it in the end.

God, just imagining Yusei thrusting into him made him moan, his cheeks flushed as he continued to get used to having Yusei's fingers in his ass. He knew he would love the way Yusei moved inside him. He'd cry out as much as he could with each thrust, especially when Yusei hit that sweet spot––

His words brought a small yet sad smile to Jaden’s lips, his hand hesitating before grasping Yusei’s own, their fingers quickly intertwining as the storm raged before them. Yusei’s words were sweet and he knew that they came straight from his heart. Jaden believed him; Yusei had shown his devotion over and over again with every change of time, with every attempt at saving his life… even if it put Yusei through both emotional and physical hell.

Yusei was destroying himself… all for someone who was destined to die.

“I know,” Jaden called out through the storm, raising his voice so Yusei could hear him over the harsh wind, his gaze shifting to the tornado that was making it’s way to Neo Domino, threatening to wipe out every inch of the city and everyone in it. “I know you’re never leaving me…! Everything you’ve done to prove that means more to me than you’ll ever know…!”

But if that tornado had its way… then Yusei would never forgive himself – not when altering time to save Jaden was the reason it existed in the first place.

He couldn’t let that happen…!

Trembling fingers reached into the side pocket of his red jacket as he used his free hand to grab a cherished gift he had been holding onto every since he reunited with Yusei after five years apart – a photo of a butterfly with wings of brown and delicate specks of red. Yusei had taken it just moments before saving his life for the first time; it was a symbol of their reunion – of their promise to stay partners in crime and time.

It was a promise to stay together forever.

Jaden’s gaze fell to the photo, holding it close to him so the rain wouldn’t damage it… before slowly handing it over to Yusei.

“But… as much as I’m going to miss you…” Jaden squeezed Yusei’s hand, his voice breaking already with just one sentence as he struggled to ask for one final request – one that would change the both of their lives… forever.

“… I need to leave you.”

If Yusei’s comments weren’t helping him with his upcoming tears, then Jaden’s weren’t helping with the smile on Yusei’s face, more chuckles leaving the party planner as his eyes still shined with adoration for his other half. That adoration didn’t at all fade as he still stared at Jaden’s own smile, and the shine in his own eyes. 

It certainly didn’t fade with Jaden’s matching confession, and the kiss to go with it. No; the kiss was answered in earnest, blue eyes closing themselves to the world to allow the YFA member to drink in how Jaden’s lips felt on his, everything Jaden had to say held within. He filled the kiss with his own feelings – hushed and quiet against their tamed rush together. 

In truth, if they were alone, Jaden wouldn’t be the only one crying, as lashes twitched as eyes dared to threaten to water behind the older male’s eyelids. 

He loved Jaden so much… and he was going to be with him for the rest of his life. 

That was something worth crying about, after all they had been through… but… 

“Seriously you two - get a room.”

 – It was hard to be able to do that, when he was aware of his surroundings, and the professional presence that Yusei was meant to give off in a setting such as this. Haou’s comment was what pulled him back, and made him realize. Jaden may have pulled away, but if he had done it a second later, Yusei would have instead, left to silently compose himself and regain his breath as blue eyes stayed trained on Haou, cheeks somewhat red. 

Of course, Jaden was quick to steal his attention once again with his matching sudden comment – one that of course earned a laugh out of him, and earned him a smile once again as their eyes met once more. 

But… Jaden had also pushed his thoughts back to the event at hand. While this proposal was special and powerful… there were other things to attend to. 

“Yeah, Jaden. They happen to be here.” He spoke, allowing Jaden to entwine their fingers before giving his lover’s hand a strong and affectionate squeeze. “For the party.” 

– And with careful steps, guiding Jaden with his hand in his own, eyes still left to meet Jaden’s own, he walked towards the table of refreshments. 

“Let’s begin, everyone. Shall we?” 

“Mm. About time.” Remarked Kaiba, once again, off to the side. This time, his boyfriend playfully swatted him on the arm for that comment, a look on his face that spoke that Yugi was able to take it as a joke, but also a furrow of his brows that spoke of how inappropriate that was. The rest of the guests began to mingle, beginning to raise the volume in the reserved room as they talked and moved around themselves – all the while as Yusei moved Jaden towards something he specifically planned for the party once getting… rather attached. 

That, being the very unsubtle plate of fried shrimp front and center on the table of hors d’oeuvres. 

Of course that was there for a certain someone. Yep. 

“The party…” Jaden echoed, a little out of it as he found his loving eyes once again falling to gaze at Yusei’s soft… very kissable lips.

Wait what had Yusei actually said?

“Oh…! Right! The party!” He laughed, giving his now-fiancé a sheepish grin. “Sorry – didn’t mean to steal the show from all your hard work. I was… very uh… distracted. By the proposal and… other things.”

“Smooth.” Haou huffed with a roll of his eyes, leaving Jaden’s face to burn a bright red while his twin just smirked.

“Shut up…!” The hacker cried out before shaking his head with a laugh. He didn’t care that they were probably going to tease each other for the rest of their lives – they were finally in each other’s lives again. That was more than anything Jaden had ever hoped for. He… He could have a family now – with his brother and the other members of the YFA, and most importantly…

… with Yusei.

Once the twins were done teasing each other, Jaden let Yusei guide him to the refreshments, his eyes never leaving the deep sapphire gems he adored. Even as Yusei turned to make his announcement, Jaden kept his gaze on his fiancé, a love-sick smile across his face as he watched the way his lover’s face lit up upon officially getting the party started.

“Let’s begin, everyone. Shall we?”

“Woo!” Jaden cheered, Kaiba’s own comment and Yugi’s playful slap lost to the secret agent’s own enthusiasm as Yusei pulled him away once again to give him his own little surprise – a plate of fried shrimp. Sure it may have been ‘just food’ to some people, but to Jaden, this… spoke of everything. Yusei had gone through all this effort of organising this entire party, yet managed to also bring in Jaden’s favourite food. No one… had really gone out of their way for something like that before. The gesture was really sweet – one Jaden definitely appreciated.

“I can’t believe you…” He chuckled, giving Yusei a big grin before he took one of the shrimps and popped it into his mouth, struggling to suppress the moan that followed. Holy shit that tasted amazing. Yep. Okay. This plate was officially his and his alone – he wasn’t sharing. Well… except with Yusei, of course.

“Mm, see this is why I can’t wait to marry you,” spoke Jaden once his mouth was finally free of his favourite food, butterflies swirling around in his stomach from just saying the word ‘marry’. “You know me like the back of your own hand.” He licked his lips briefly, making sure they were clean before leaning up on his tiptoes to steal a quick kiss. Was he going to be doing that all the time now that he no longer had nothing to be afraid of when it came to showing his feelings?

Oh. Hell. Yes.

Chocolate brown eyes quickly fell as Yusei’s new ring sparkled in the light. He couldn’t stop himself from smiling at the sight, taking Yusei’s hand in his own and bringing it up closer to get a better look. Ahh, he was so happy it all worked out; the ring was a perfect fit – just like they were.

“I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of seeing you with this on…” His voice softened, but he kept it loud enough for Yusei to hear through the crowd of the party. “This party is a complete success because of you, but all I can think about is the next party we’ll have, which will hopefully… be our wedding.” Jaden bit his lower lip, trying to stop himself from grinning like an idiot but it was a horrible attempt, which at the end of the day was no surprise considering it was Jaden.

“Aaaah I’m sorry.” He whined quietly as he grabbed another fried shrimp and shoved it into his mouth before snuggling into his fiancé. "I’m just really happy and excited. I never thought I’d get this kinda life. I always assumed I’d be alone… but now you’re here. I’m just so damn lucky.”

Oh, Codee was not happy with the current situation. That much was obvious as he continued to grunt against the cat’s assault against his face. 

Thankfully, he had kept his eyes closed at all times as he felt claws tear up the skin on his face, and blood cause his face to heat up as tiny cut marks were left on his face. 

Codee was soon joined by Jaden when it came to attempting to get the cat off of his beautiful face and suit, feeling hands on top of his own as they tried to yank the cat away. The fat fucker was determined, but eventually Codee’s hands were yanked away from him, as Jaden finally got a hold on the damn cat. 

He allowed his hands to fall away from the feline, and onto the rail behind him as he leaned against it and panted in his shock, and in trying to regain his composure since being outright attacked. Fucking hell, that was it. No more cats for him. Jesus fucking Christ, and he had loved them before that. Once he was back on earth enough, and Pharaoh tried to fight back against Jaden’s hold. 

Baby blue eyes went wide as the visitor to Duel Academy bared his teeth. 

“That cat is a fucking menace!! What do you keep him around for if he acts like that?!”

Codee held no sympathy for Pharaoh as he went back to being a slumpy grump in Jaden’s arms, just whining at his owner, and the sight made Codee scoff as he stood upright all over again, wiping his chin and lower lip to find… yep. Blood. Blood on his white gloves. Tch. He was probably torn up to pieces. 

“Oh my god I’m so sorry. I have no idea what’s gotten into him. Are you okay?”

“Oh, so you don’t know why your cat assaulted me. Wonderful. Thank you.” He sighed as he rubbed his face, finding more blood on it and his gloved hand when he was done. Another fucking sigh. This was ridiculous; a great start to his research of the Gentle Darkness and the Light of Destruction in action as it begun it’s war anew on Duel Academy’s shores. 

Okay. He had let his happy outlook fall to pieces in light of the situation – well, who wouldn’t – but he needed it back as soon as possible. Being rude wasn’t what he wanted to give off, he wanted to get on Jaden’s good side! All for getting closer to him, so he could have a front row seat to watching everything unfold. Being nicey-nicey was crucial to the plan, and if he didn’t fix it now, he could kiss it all goodbye. With a breath through his nose and a close of his eyes, he pushed his hair back, letting his bangs fall onto his torn-up face, before looking back up with the smile he tried to present to mister Judai “Jaden” Yuki before that fucking cat ruined everything.

“Apologies. It seemed I lost my manners there, for a moment. A… first aid kit to clean up my face would be nice. Don’t worry about the suit – I happen to know an incredible tailor.

Perhaps we could use this opportunity to get to know one another? I am Codee Aide. A researcher in the realm of Duel Monster Spirits.” A white lie, one more of a lie than anything true, considering he couldn’t see spirits at all. But it was meant to tug at Jaden’s heart; get himself in there, and make himself known. 

“I’ve heard quite a lot about you, Judai “Jaden” Yuki!”

Oh god, that poor stranger… There was blood all over him! That was going to hurt so bad when they put that first aid kit to good use.

“Oh, so you don’t know why your cat assaulted me. Wonderful. Thank you.”

Well, this really wasn’t the way Jaden had been hoping to introduce himself to this guy. Talk about a horrible start.

“I’m sorry…” Jaden apologised once more with a sigh, frowning as his gaze fell to his cat. “I’ve only just recently become his full-time owner. I’ve known him for a long time, but I’m… still trying to get used to him being my responsibility.” As if on cue, Pharaoh meowed – possibility out of spite that he had ruined the new guy’s face and suit. Oh, Pharaoh… what was Jaden going to do with you? He should have known that taking care of Pharaoh after Professor Banner’s… somewhat passing would be rather difficult, but he definitely wasn’t expecting this of all things.

“Pharaoh usually means well, but… I’m sorry that you had to meet the both of us like this. D’you mind if we just… start over? I promise I’ll hold ‘im back this time.” It was a rather awkward attempt on Jaden’s part to try and start fresh with him, but surprisingly the stranger seemed happy to follow through regardless. Well, that was… rather quick. Eh, it didn’t matter. Jaden would happily take it!

And hey – he learned some interesting things as a result!

“You’re researching Duel Monster Spirits?” Jaden echoed before his eyes lit up, completely unaware of Codee’s little white lie. “That’s so cool!! You’ve gotta tell me what kinda stuff you do!” The second-year had barely had enough time to lead Codee back into the dorm before the researcher once again dropped the bombshell that was the Slifer’s real name – except this time Jaden had actually registered what he said.

“I’ve heard quite a lot about you, Judai “Jaden” Yuki!”

Jaden flinched, his body tensing slightly as he felt slightly uneasy from hearing a complete stranger use ‘Judai’ – a name he had kept hidden from everyone for a rather personal reason. But wait…

“How did you…?” Jaden trailed off, causing Pharaoh to look up at him curiously. The only ones who should have known were his parents. How did Codee get access to that kind of information? Did this have anything to do with why Pharaoh had acted so… weird?

Nah… Surely that had to be a coincidence!

Right?

“I see someone’s definitely done their homework,” Jaden finally broke his silence as he gave a rather awkward smile, slowly putting Pharaoh back down on his bed, “but if it’s cool, could ya stick with Jaden? It’s what everyone calls me here.”

“But uh… aside from that, why did you come to Duel Academy for that kinda research?”

Oh Yusei… It was obvious that the passionate feelings you held for Jaden were very much mutual. Jaden wanted nothing more than to have you hold him in your arms as you made such sweet love, crying out each other’s names in pure bliss as you let your bodies, hearts and souls become one through such an intimate connection.

Yusei had to have been a siren in another life, because Jaden was melting just from that beautiful melody of his sigh alone and as the sweet sound harmonised with Jaden’s own soft hum, the junior college student continued to shower his lover’s neck in gentle affections as a thank you for such a wonderful gift.

Yet as much as Jaden wanted to continue appreciating Yusei’s neck with all the love and affection it deserved, the kisses soon came to a stop once he felt Yusei’s hands upon his shoulders, causing the psychology major to lift his head up as curious brown eyes gazed into pleasured stardust, his heart racing at the gorgeous sight. While his eyes were very distracting, Jaden still got the hint to move as he felt Yusei slowly start to sit up.

Was he…?

“No. I haven’t.”

Jaden could have sworn he felt his heart skip a beat from those three words alone, his face heating up as he realized just what that meant; in just a short while… Jaden would be screaming his boyfriend’s name out loud over and over again as he drowned in the pleasure that was making love with Yusei Fudo.

“Good,” was all Jaden could whisper in return, wrapping his arms around Yusei’s neck as his boyfriend took the lead and shifted their position. Gently guiding Jaden back down on the couch was such a simple yet sweet gesture from Yusei, and Jaden was sure that if the two had been standing up, he would have fallen in an instant thanks to his knees being so weak for everything Yusei had to offer. Each second that passed as Yusei placed him back against the couch was a delicate embrace that wrapped Jaden in Yusei’s hold like a warm blanket, welcoming him with every affectionate touch, inviting him to stay forever.

And Jaden never wanted to leave.

Jaden quickly made himself comfortable on the cushions, his arms slowly unwrapping themselves from Yusei’s neck as they trailed down his chest, leaving light butterfly kisses with his fingertips before resting his hands on his boyfriend’s waist, keeping him close as Yusei once again took the necessary steps to prepare Jaden for what was to come next. Chocolate brown eyes watched curiously as the lube was placed on the senior’s fingertips once again, feeling thankful that Yusei had gone out of his way to make sure the process was as painless for Jaden as possible. While he felt nervous for the pain that would eventually come his way, as his eyes met the captivating specks of stardust in Yusei’s own, Jaden knew that he wanted to be with Yusei and he wanted nothing more than to show the endless love he held for the bright star that lightened up his night sky.

So if Yusei had any final doubts about whether Jaden would continue to give his consent for their intimate embrace, then the junior would do his best to reassure him, nodding his head slowly with a loving smile across his face.

Go ahead, Yusei. He wanted this.

He wanted you.

And without further ado, Yusei placed his hand on Jaden’s thigh and slowly started to slide one of his fingers inside him.

Jaden’s initial breath was immediately ripped from his throat with a light gasp, his body tensing just from the odd sensation alone. Truth be told, during the long nights alone with only his thoughts to keep him company, Jaden had often thought about trying to do this to himself, picturing Yusei in his head as his looks, his heart and his very voice clouded his mind with such blissful images and sounds. Yet whenever Jaden could get himself into position to bring himself pleasure in a way that wasn’t the same as his usual go-to method, he lost the courage to do so, feeling that the first time he should experience it was with Yusei.

And now here they were. Yusei was the one making him feel this way.

“Nnngh…” Jaden grunted, clenching his eyes shut as he arched his back slightly and his hands lifted from Yusei’s waist, making himself a little more comfortable by resting his hands over his head, grasping onto one of the cushions behind him, digging his nails into the fabric. There were no moans for now – just a few gentle grunts as Jaden clenched his teeth. Jaden knew he needed to relax – that tensing up like this wouldn’t make it any easier, but this was all so new for him; he just needed to try and get used to the sensation.

“Nng–… Jaden… does it… feel alright?”

Yusei’s voice was a weapon. His voice alone was enough to ease some of the discomfort, the simple yet necessary question providing a nice distraction for Jaden to take, pulling him out of his daze as he lifted his head up to look over at his dear partner with a quiet moan leaving his lips.

“Y… Yeah,” he answered, nodding his head a little bit before licking his lips, trying to find the words to describe the experience, “It… f-feels kinda weird– but not in a bad way or anything…! J… Just… new.” And once the answer leaves his lips, Jaden feels Yusei slowly pull his finger out, which honestly leaves Jaden with some interesting results – a rather disappointed moan. Despite still trying to get used to it, Jaden found himself rather liking the feeling of Yusei’s fingers inside him; he liked knowing it was Yusei who was touching him and caressing him with his affections – not anyone else.

So to have Yusei pull out like that, even for just a few seconds… No – he didn’t like that; Jaden was needy and he wanted nothing more than to feel Yusei inside him again.

“K–… Keep going… please.” He begged, moving his hips slightly with a whine. He had been patient enough with letting Yusei have his turn, but now Jaden more; he wanted Yusei to completely destroy him with just a single touch. “I think… I think distractions might help too.  Your voice… your kisses… your touches. I’ll take anything. Please Yusei…”

“… I want everything you have to offer.”

What once was a bustling day of once again stealing “the king’s” throne, an outing with the ones he held dear, and a duel that made all of his confusion and anxiety fade away like the sunset did a here hour and a half ago, had turned into a quiet night with only Neo Domino City’s ambience keeping Yusei Fudo company as he leaned against the door to… well. What was now just his garage, considering the direction that Crow and Jack had decided to take. While Yusei was left alone, he held no ill will towards the two of them – and wished them well with their dreams. 

Whereas… Yusei himself would be acquainted with this block, this garage, this city… the moonlight covering him against the lights of the less denser area of Neo Domino City, for a very long time. That wasn’t at all a bad thing, however. It was exactly what Yusei wanted. Having being born in this city, being such a big part of it’s legacy, growth, and future… he wanted to stay. It was part of who he was. Staying was something inevitable in the end, he realized. He helped make this city shine, and he would continue to help it prosper for as long as he could manage. 

However… the life in Neo Domino City that Yusei had chosen… would be a lonely one. With Rua and Ruka finally going to live with their parents, Aki going to study medicine, and Crow and Jack aiming to better themselves as duelists elsewhere… most of the people he had a bond with were leaving the city behind them. At least, for the time being. 

To say that watching his friends and even family leave him hurt… was an understatement. There was an ache in his heart that never seemed to fade; the events of what tomorrow will being being on his mind at all times, leading to a heavy sadness weighing his heart down and squeezing it. But… would he act upon it? Tell his friends to stay? 

No. That wasn’t the type of person he was. 

He wasn’t one to stop his friends from reaching their dreams. Not at all. So even as he knew that as of tomorrow, the Signers would all go their separate ways, he remained happy for them. He remained as hopeful for them and their futures as he ever was, and knew that no matter how far apart they were, they would remain powerful friends. Their bonds would hold true, so when it came to them leaving,Yusei was happy to let them go. 

… All except… 

Blue eyes finally exposed themselves to the world around him as footsteps approached. So it seemed like his request over text had been answered, as he allowed a tender look in his eyes and a soft smile to show the warmth that was covering his heart and drowning his sorrows away. After sending a text in the emptiness that was the now apartment above the garage, the winds of change holding Yusei close as he typed out “going for a walk. Join me? xx” to a very special someone…  Now, he wasn’t alone. 

He was with the one person his heart couldn’t stop yearning for. 

“Jaden.” Yusei spoke out, softly, as he pulled away from the garage door with his smile still on his features. “You came. Thank you.” 

He took a step forward, towards the road out of the garage, and towards one of Yusei’s favorite vantage points in the city. 

“Shall we?”

“So when do you plan on telling him?”

A hum left Jaden’s lips as his orange and teal eyes rose to meet the night sky as he pondered over his companion’s question. He let his gaze fall back to the human-dragon hybrid spirit who floated beside him as they walked along the streets of Neo Domino City as Yubel waited for his answer.

Yubel had a point – this was something Jaden needed to discuss with Yusei. Jaden had followed everyone’s footsteps and had finally decided a path for himself – to become the bridge between humans and duel monster spirits. He wanted to help those who had the same powers as him, just as he had helped Yusei and Luka. If he could… he wanted to open some sort of academy for it, where the kids could come to him for help and he could teach them what to do for the next generation that came around; he even wanted to travel the world to help those in need.

But first? He wanted to start in Neo Domino City, which meant that just like Yusei, Jaden would be sticking around for a long time.

“Hmm.. Probably tonight,” Jaden finally decided with a nod of his head, “it feels fitting since everyone else is making all their big decisions now and leaving in the morning.”

“I suppose,” Yubel hummed gently, “but you’re not leaving, are you?”

“Nah, definitely not anytime soon. I’ve still got a ton of stuff to do here. It’ll definitely take more than a few years.” The two fell silent as they continued to walk, making their way to Yusei’s garage before Yubel faded back into his soul to rest with Jaden’s eyes fading back to brown. Truth be told, Jaden had only really stepped out for a bit to help Luka with some last minute advice about duel monster spirits before he had gotten that text from Yusei.

“going for a walk. Join me? xx”

Of course Jaden had quickly replied with his own cute message of: “of course!! on my way now!! xx” before finally saying goodbye to the twins for the night and heading back to the garage he often found himself staying the night in. It felt weird… leaving the twins like that. Normally he had no problems with it because he knew he’d see them the very next day, but… that would all come to an end tomorrow morning.

It was hard to believe that everyone was leaving, and while Jaden was heartbroken at the idea of having to say goodbye to the friends that stuck by him for everything life had decided to throw at all of them, he was proud of them for following their dreams. He would support them all the way and wish them the best of luck because that’s what you did for your best friends – you stood beside them and you cheered them on.

Even if saying goodbye tore you apart.

And as Jaden approached the garage and his gaze landed on the shooting star that stood before him, he couldn’t stop a smile from quickly appearing on his face, because… out of all everyone that had decided their futures… Yusei and Jaden could still stay side by side forevermore.

“Jaden. You came. Thank you.”

“You kidding? Tonight’s the perfect night for a romantic stroll~ I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” Jaden laughed softly, meeting Yusei halfway so they could walk together.

“Shall we?”

“Mhm,” he hummed as he linked an arm with Yusei, leaning his head lightly against his boyfriend’s shoulder as they started to walk, “lead the way.”

What an interesting start to the tournament this was, as Yusei was left to quirk up an eyebrow as he watched the rest of the duel behind Jaden to find that… Dorothy was most likely dueling for the very first time tonight. That was… wonderful. It was somewhat amusing, and amusing to others as laughter filled the stands every so often, to see Jaden have to coach Dorothy into doing something as simple as playing a card. While it may have been amusing to see Jaden have to deal with someone who had no idea what they were doing… his demeanor wasn’t amusing in the least. 

Still remembering the person Jaden was before their third year, he was sure that he would have just laughed with everyone else and still offered friendly advice – maybe even actually told Dorothy that strategy that he decided to keep to himself for the sake of… winning, it seemed. Jaden’s new way of dueling was far more savage and unforgiving, as was easy to see with how he summoned Darkbright without a second thought, and took the advantage of Dororthy forgetting to put Marshmallon in defense mode to slice their life points down immediately. 

Using De-Fusion to finish the job in one turn? That was the cruelest move he had seen Jaden make in the duel, and left his eyes wide as Dorothy fell backwards and into the Chancellor’s arms. It seemed as if they were a couple meant to be, as the Chancellor had to be reminded how the game he ran a school to teach worked. 

“Uhh… You don’t have a next turn. Your life points are already at zero.” “W-What?!”

At least the Chancellor and Dorothy were able to laugh their mistakes off with the crowd, causing an uproar throughout the entire arena that it seemed like only Yusei and Jaden themselves didn’t join in on. Yusei released a chuckle as they laughed at their mistakes with everyone else. His humor was short lived, though, as he couldn’t ignore Jaden walking away from the podium in silence, blue eyes staring at him with every step he took. 

The gaze wasn’t returned, and that didn’t help things. First duel done and over with, and it seemed that Yusei’s message didn’t reach Jaden at all. Naturally, considering he didn’t even check the card he placed face down on the field. To the point where Jaden didn’t even pick it up for him, apparently. He he took a step to get his Junk Barrage card off of the podium before the next match started, he stopped in his tracks with wide eyes at the fact that Jaden… spoke to him. 

Things really had changed when that was a genuine surprise. 

“I guess I’ll see you in the next round.”

“Yeah. You will.”

The tournament continued on after their victory – many duelists won and lost, and the next round was set to begin just as the last one had; with Jaden and Yusei taking center stage. Yusei was able to leave the stands to find Jaden waiting behind the duelists currently on the podium they had used before, waiting for the next round to begin. 

He was able to greet Jaden just in time, as the team that had already had a decisive lead struck the finishing blow to the Ra Yellow that stood on the podium with his Obelisk Blue partner. 

It didn’t take long for Hasselberry to take to his usual announcing, making it loud and clear across the arena that the Ra Yellow boy and Obelisk Blue girl had lost their chance at winning and were gone as the final match of the first round. 

“Now to kick off our second round with a bang, we’ve got Yusei and Jaden goin’ up against Virgilius and Temo!”

At the next duel being called, Yusei decided to go ahead and step up to the podium, sure to be the one to go first between them. While Jaden probably just had a good hand last turn, and was sure of himself that he didn’t need whatever Yusei had placed before him, he wasn’t going to be tossed aside like last time. He was sure of it. 

He was going to make a play that would allow his outstretched hand to reach Jaden with no questions asked. He was determined on that. 

He did his part and greeted Virgilius with honor, and echoed his determined banter in kind. With that tradition done, it was time to properly start the next match. 

Well. Here they go.

“DUEL!”

“I’ll take the first move! I draw!” With a fwip, Yusei added another card into his hand, finding himself satisfied with both his draw, and of what cards he held in his hand to help him out. 

Yes. With these, reaching Jaden would be much easier than the last duel. With his faith in his cards, they would never let him down. 

“I summon Speed Warrior in Attack Mode!” With a raise of his arm, he threw the card down onto his Duel Disk, allowing the warrior in dark green armor to appear from a hole that formed on the battlefield, appearing out of it with a rotating flip, landing skillfully on his feet with a shout. But even after such a skillful entrance, Yusei brought a card to his face. 

“He won’t stay. I sacrifice Speed Warrior to special summon Turret Warrior by effect!!” 

Speed Warrior seemed to acknowledge his fate as he stood upright as a light engulfed him, turning him into a ball of light that shot into the sky, eventually exploding out to expose another warrior-type monster that had it’s card on Yusei’s duel disk in place of Speed Warrior’s own. His arms were made up of towers and wood armor, with cannon sitting on the top of the shoulders that were far above his helmeted head. He fell to the duel field with his own battle cry, landing on the metal surface with a thud that, if it wasn’t for it being a hologram, would have shaken the ground he stood on. 

“Turret Warrior’s effect! Through sacrificing Speed Warrior to summon him, he gains Speed Warrior’s Attack Points!”

The monster clenched it’s hands clad in metallic armor as it let out yet another battle cry as it’s effect powered it up. The Obelisk Blue that stood on the other side of Yusei swallowed. 

“A–… A 2100 Attack monster on your very first turn…?!” 

Yusei nodded to his opponent. 

“Yes. I can’t attack, however. I place one card face down, and end my turn.” 

With that done, he unplugged his duel disk and allowed Jaden to step forward. The card he played last was Card Rotator. Judging by Virgilius’ reaction to the monster he had summoned, he was probably going to play something in defense mode to defend himself. With Card Rotator, Jaden would easily be able to switch it into attack mode by just discarding some card he didn’t need at the moment, and even if he got a bad hand this time, he had Turret Warrior on his side. 

Good. He had set up a play that no matter how good Jaden’s hand was, he wouldn’t be able to continue without at the very least using Turret Warrior to finish the job. 

Now, it was all a matter of seeing if his instincts were right, and if Virgilius would play exactly as Yusei expected. 

“O-Okay… my turn now…! I draw!” The boy took his time analyzing his cards, clearly nervous with such a strong monster on the field. “O–.. Okay.. I summon Stone Statue of the Aztecs in defense position!!”

Another portal, much like the one that brought in Speed Warrior, appeared; letting through a creature with a face, shoulders, and hands all made out of emerald stone, bellowing out a deep, resonating sound upon appearing in full on the field. 

Yusei had made the correct play, it seemed. He was going on the defensive, just as he expected, and with defense and attack points that weren’t enough, it was all the boy had. 

This duel was theirs; especially if Jaden kept playing like he had thus far. 

“A-and before I end my turn, I play the spell card Mist Body and equip it to Stone Statue of the Aztecs!!” 

The monster of emerald stone faded until he was a translucent form, bellowing much quieter this time in response. 

“So… how was that? You may be able to attack me, but you can’t do damage and you can’t destroy my monster by just attacking! It’s the perfect impenetrable defense!” 

Well, Virgilius had most of it right; it was a mostly impenetrable defense. Mostly. Mist Body didn’t protect his monster from card effects, and while it wouldn’t destroy it with just card effects alone, little did his fellow Obelisk Blue know that Yusei had set Card Rotator. Once the boy had exclaimed that his turn was over, and let his female partner take the stand, Yusei knew that no matter what Jaden did, he was certain to use his cards to his advantage. 

Take my hand, Jaden. Let me help you. 

And, to help him in his mission, to perhaps… encourage him to open himself up to his message, before Jaden began his turn… 

“Jaden.” He spoke aloud, with his arms crossed as he stood just about a foot away from his partner. There was a silence, for a time, before Yusei let a smirk come onto his features. 

“Show them what you can do.”

Jaden once again let Yusei take the lead as they came face to face with Virgilius and Temo. He was fine with sitting back and watching the duel for the moment. Thanks to everything that had happened over the last couple of years, he found observing his opponents' strategies to be extremely helpful in assuring his own victory. It only made things easier when his opponents were very predictable. Setting up a strong defense against Yusei's monster was a typical move – one that would be their downfall against Jaden's own strategy.

He had to focus on his turn in this duel... it made him too anxious to focus on anything else – like how there were so many people in the room watching this duel... watching him. This was the first time Jaden had made such a public appearance; of course, people wanted to watch what would happen in the duels to come.

But... did it have to be this many people? There were so many... The crowd made it hard for Jaden to think… hard for him to breathe. He just wanted to get this over and done with so he could curl back up in his bed – back in the darkness where he finally felt safe.

... well, as safe as he could possibly get these days, anyway.

"Jaden."

The gentle hush of his name quickly brought the Slifer duelist out of his panicked thoughts, a soft gasp leaving his lips as he saw who had called out to him.

"Show them what you can do."

Hesitant chocolate brown eyes gazed up at the Shooting Star of Obelisk as Jaden opened his mouth to try and say something in return, but... what could he possibly say to him right now? Jaden had lost the right to talk to Yusei with such heartfelt words the moment he had started ignoring him and treating him like dirt. What could Jaden do now to make that up to him? ... Nothing, probably. Surely it was too late.

So with a soft sigh, Jaden closed his mouth and the sadness in his eyes returned as he took a few steps forward without saying a single word to Yusei. His heart ached at his own actions, but he did his best to ignore it as he tried to focus on the duel before him.

“Alright, it’s my turn! I draw...!" Jaden finally announced, drawing a card from his deck. He let himself gaze over it for a moment before deciding that it would work perfectly towards his strategy. Well if Yusei wanted Jaden to show everyone what he could do, then he was going to be in for a big surprise with what plan he had in store for their poor opponents.

"I summon Neo-Spacian Flare Scarab!" He called out, setting his card down on the field so a portal could open up and bring his monster out onto the field. "But that's not all! I activate the spell card, Fake Hero! This lets me special summon one monster from my hand that includes the words "Elemental HERO" in its card name. So, I choose Elemental HERO Neos!"

"Y–You brought out your ace card on your first turn?!" The girl gasped out as Neos appeared through his own bright portal, quickly landing next to Flare Scarab.

"I'm not done yet! Now I'll use Contact Fusion to bring out Elemental HERO Flare Neos!” With a raise of Jaden’s hand, both Neos and Flare Scarab jumped into the air, a determined cry leaving both their lips as they combined their powers into one, a bright flame taking their place that soon faded away to show Flare Neos on the field. “Then I’ll activate the field spell Neo Space!" As soon as the card was placed down, everything surrounding the four duelists started to shift; the crowd and the rest of the dueling arena faded away and was replaced with a range of different colors as if they were all caught in some kind of cosmic wave. While the field spell may have been new for some to experience, Jaden was already far too used to it, and he took their moment of awe as a chance to fill his sudden need to win – to get this over with and finally be alone and away from the crowd.

"And with Neo Space activated, I'll add H – Heated Heart into the mix! With both of those effects in play, Flare Neos gets 1000 attack points!" Despite the anxious aching in his chest that begged him to hurry up, Jaden waited until the fire that burned around Flare Neos ceased, watching the monster's attack points rise. It was only until the system had finished registering it did Jaden take another card out from his hand.

"If you think I'm done with you, then I've got some bad news for you because I activate Gift of the Martyr! This lets me send Turret Warrior to the graveyard and their original attack points are given to Flare Neos until the end of this turn!"

And that... was the mistake Jaden hadn't even realized he'd made. Maybe if he hadn't been so focused on just trying to win as desperately as he was, then he would have noticed the confused aura coming from both Flare Neos and Turret Warrior. Destroying one of Yusei's monsters for his own gain without even asking for consent? Jaden had never done anything so cruel... outside of being the Supreme King, of course.

But he was desperate. If he didn't finish this now, he was sure he'd fall into a panic attack right on the spot. And having it happen in front of everyone? Yeah... no thanks.

So as Turret Warrior shattered into pieces and disappeared from the field, Jaden lifted his hand up once again, "Now I'll activate Flare Neos' monster effect! For each spell and trap card on the field, Flare Neos gains 500 attack points!"

Virgilius and Teemo took a step back, their eyes widening in shock as soon as they realized just what kind of trouble they were in.

"N–Now Flare Neos has a total of 6500 attack points...?!" They cried out, but Jaden wouldn't give them a single shred of mercy as he gave his monster a determined look, knowing all too well what it was time for.

"Let's battle! Flare Neos! Attack Stone Statue of the Aztecs!"

"Burn Rush!!”

With such a harsh command leaving Jaden's lips, Flare Neos jumped up and sent a fireball straight for Virgilius' monster, sending it up in flames before watching it explode, the force knocking Virgilius right off his feet as his life points with Teemo went straight down to zero. Once again, a beep from their duel disks signaled the end of the match, and the field spell around them faded away, returning them to their original setting.

A few pants left Jaden's lips as he placed a hand on his heart, trying to get it to calm down before he looked over at his opponents. Crap... did he really just pull another one turn kill? Damn it. So much for not wanting to make a scene; as chocolate brown eyes looked up at the audience, he was met with... everyone staring. Shit. He needed to get out of here.

"Hey..!" Jaden quickly called out to his opponents, "You guys alright? Sorry about that...!" Hopefully, the crowd would be satisfied with that short apology. Jaden didn't have the time to give a proper one right now. So instead of sticking around, he turned the other way and tried to make a subtle break for it.

Of course Jaden forgot one crucial detail – one that would put a harsh halt to his escape plan.

Ahh, I’m so sorry for being so slow with asks/replies. I just started my fourth year back at university and I’m currently studying four languages plus a linguistics course. I also have swim training three times a week, so with all of that plus the extra studies I have to do outside of class with homework, quizzes, etc., I’m afraid I only have free time on weekends. This semester is really important to me as it is my last one and I need to stay focused. My studies must come first. 

That being said, I’m not going on hiatus on any of my blogs. All I’m said is just that I will only have time to do replies on Saturday & Sunday. 

tl;dr: adult life is kicking my ass and I want my summer vacation back

He had to let out a laugh at that one, his dazzling crimson tail flinching once more against the physics student’s touch, causing a tiny splash in the tide pool that they had agreed to meet in once the moon was high in the sky and no one was around. It was the only time any proper research could be done without the risk of someone seeing the exotic creature with a playful sense of humor.

“Of course I am! It’s my tail, silly!” Jaden chuckled, sitting back in the water as he lifted his tail up a little bit, watching the way the moonlight reflected each shimmering scale. “They really cut through water, but they’re very sensitive. So just take it easy and I’ll get used to it in no time.”

As he smiled up at Yusei as he continued his research, the prince couldn’t help but feel lucky that he had found himself in this situation. His father had always made it a rule to never interact with people above water, as they were said to be dangerous and would try to take merfolk away for experiments. Jaden definitely didn’t doubt that people like that were out there, but he was glad Yusei wasn’t one of them. That was why Jaden didn’t mind helping out with Yusei’s research on him, as long as it stayed between the two of them… for now at least; he didn’t want to run the risk of people trying to find him, especially when… he didn’t exactly have a home to go back to now that he had left his kingdom.

“You know, your eyes remind me of the stars,” Jaden grinned, placing his webbed hands on one the rocks beside him so he could properly lean up and gaze into Yusei’s deep navy eyes that looked as if they were decorated with stardust. “Do all humans have those kinda eyes, or is it just you?”

Was he flirting or was he just asking a simple question?

Well, when it came to Yusei, Jaden always did his best to make it a bit of both.
