P3: Work on it!
ARTG 241
Original:

Re-worked:

I re-worked this illustration by fixing some of the issues I had with hue on the original, the original illustration was a bit too warm for my liking and had a kind of muddy section in the sky so I adjusted it to the best of my ability, straightened the horizontal line of the water, and cleaned up some of the trees.
Original:

Re-worked:

I revisited this illustration and had fun playing around with colour. In the original I wasn't happy with how the nose turned out but it was the natural flow of the ink so I kept it, however, now that I got the chance to revisit it I fixed the nose and touched up a few other areas.

Play with Scale and Composition #9
ARTG 241

For this weeks illustration I took inspiration from a strange dream I had; a blinding pink light shining from a door surrounded by darkness. It was a lot of fun experimenting with scale for this illustration but I struggled a bit with the composition. While drawing this piece I realized that once you get into the pattern of placing the subject of your illustration right in the middle of the page its a bit hard to break out of it, but changing up the composition is so worth it for the depth and story telling that it adds.

Celebrity Portraits #8
ARTG 241

For this weeks Illustration I decided to digitally draw a scene of Meghan Fox from the 2009 horror comedy film “Jennifer’s Body”. The drawing is a raster illustration as I drew and coloured it on my iPhone 8+ with my finger. The goal of this illustration was to remind myself that it isn't always about the tools that you use to create your art, but the techniques that you continue to experiment with and practice. One thing I did struggle with a bit was trying to get my illustration to resemble the celebrity that I chose because of my current art style. I will definitely be practicing this skill in the future but overall I had a lot of fun this week!

Natural Landscapes #7
ARTG 241

For this weeks Illustration experiment I chose to do a painting of a winter landscape (I can’t wait for Christmas!). This is only my second time painting and using acrylic paints so I tried using a lot of different brushes and sponges. I decided against using a reference photo for the painting and instead just tried to channel my inner Bob Ross with the mentality that there’s no such thing as mistakes. Overall I’m quite happy with how the painting turned out given my limited experience with the medium, it was definitely an experiment and I can only improve from here.

Incorporate Inks #6
ARTG 241

For this illustration experiment I used drawing ink and water to create a portrait. I have never really experimented with ink in traditional media before so I thought It would make for a good experiment! I found that the flowing of the ink when it touches water helped me a lot to break out of my need for clean lines in my illustrations.

Final B&W + Coloured Illustration
ARTG 241

Rationale
This friendly monster likes long walks on the beach and running through fields of flowers. The illustration was colored with a limited color palette as there were a lot of elements to color but I wanted the finished piece to still have a coherent appearance. Overall I wanted the coloring page to be a good mix between simple and complex elements so that it is ideal for all ages.

Texturing #5
ARTG 241
Step 1:

For this Illustration experiment I thought I’d take more of a mixed media approach. I first gathered or took some of my own photographs that contained lots of different textures.
Step 2:

I then scanned all of my images and made a collage with them.
Step 3:

I created a more complex collage using the first one I had already made.
The final texturing illustration:

I chose a color scheme and colorized three layers of the collage and positioned them into a final abstract composition.

Vector Illustration in Illustrator #4
ARTG 241

I first digitally sketched this illustration on my cell phone and created the finished vector illustration in Illustrator. Seals are one of my favorite animals so I thought that given the freedom of choice with this experiment, I would try to illustrate one. It is a bit oddly proportioned, however, when I look at the illustration it makes me smile which is exactly what I wanted.

B&W final design
ARTG 241

This is the final design I have chosen, once I vectorize it I will be editing the flowers more so they are cleaner and easier to color aswell as tweaking the illustration a bit further.

Monster Roughs
ARTG 241

I stuck with the concept of a friendly monster for my roughs. I modified the background so that the monster is more easily visible in all the flowers and added more details so that there are alot more elements to colour now. In my final copy I’m going to enlarge the bouquet so it is easier to color and possibly remove the small shadow guidlines that I added on the fur.

People Doing Things #3
ARTG 241

I created this illustration with pencil on paper then scanned the drawing and added colour digitally. The topic is people doing things so I drew someone drinking tea and another reading a book because those are two of my favorite things to do. I am not very skilled at drawing people so this was a bit of a challenge for me. I originally had the idea to draw just the hands or feet of a person completing and action (like putting on socks), however, I thought it would be a better learning experience if I pushed myself a bit more out of my comfort zone.

Experiment with Colour #2
ARTG 241

This illustration was created with micron pens and pencil crayons on paper. I took the title of this illustration experiment quite literally and just had fun experimenting with as many different color palettes and patterns in one illustration as I could. Before starting this illustration I planned out a few different ideas on how to experiment with colour and settled on a nice circular “zentangle”. I realized through this illustration that when I work in traditional media I tend to enjoy small detail work and am a lot more patient with the process of illustrating overall.

Word pair illustration #1
ARTG 241

This illustration was created with the word pair “Fitness” and “Lamp”. The concept was sketched on paper and the final was completed on adobe illustrator. The inspiration for this illustration was to combine an 80′s aerobics fitness aesthetic with a physical lamp to create one being. Stylistically the line art of this illustration features more variation in stroke width to add a more humanistic feel to it.
