Ppl can say what they want about Damon/Delena as a ship but like. One thing I will always appreciate is the fact that when Elena turned into a vampire, Damon tried to help her adapt to her new normal and even wanted her to be able to enjoy it. Stefan just tried to fix the situation, fix her, because he claimed she wasn't supposed to be this person. And I get it to an extent?? Even Elena felt lost in it and didn't like the changes she was seeing in herself. But to me it just felt like Stefan wanted the girl he fell in love with back, instead of trying to help her accept the changes and find peace within herself again. Damon even said "I'm fine with her either way" — I think one thing he never faltered in was like really loving her? Sure, he did a lot of stupid, selfish things. But at the end of the day, I don't think he ever stopped finding reasons to truly love her. Which is not to say Stefan ever stopped loving her, but to some degree I think for at least a period of time he wanted to hold onto an idealized version of her.
