Taylor Swift's playlists about the five stages of grief in a breakup
I made the playlists on Spotify if anyone is interested! EDIT22/04 the songs from TTPD are added in these playlists!
DENIAL. I Love You, It's Ruining My Life Songs: “This is a list of songs about getting so caught up in the idea of something that you have a hard time seeing the red flags possibly resulting in moments of denial and maybe a little bit of delusion.”
ANGER. You Don't Get to Tell Me About Sad Songs: “These songs all have one thing in common: I wrote them while feeling anger. Over the years I've learned that anger can manifest itself in a lot of different ways, but the healthiest way it can manifest itself in my life is when I can write a song about it.”
BARGAINING. Am I Allowed to Cry? Songs: “This playlist takes you through songs I've written when I was in the bargaining stage, times when you're trying to make deals with yourself or someone you care about, you're trying to make things better. You're often times feeling really desperate because oftentimes we have a gut intuition that tells us things are not going the way that we hope. Which makes us more desperate. Which makes us bargain more!"
DEPRESSION. Old Habits Die Screaming Songs: “We're going to be exploring the feelings of depression that often lace their way through my songs. In times like these, I'll write a song because I feel lonely or hopeless. And writing a song feels like the only way to process that intensity of an emotion. And while these things are really, really hard to go through, I often feel like when I'm either listening to songs or writing songs that deal with this intensity of loss and hopelessness — usually that's in the phase where I'm close to getting passed that feeling.”
ACCEPTANCE. I Can Do It With a Broken Heart Songs: “We finally find acceptance and can start moving forward from loss or heartbreak. These songs represent making room for more good in your life, making that choice. Because a lot of the time when we lose things, we gain things too.”

WELL. SO. I’ve been counting down for months and finally the ‘I Can See You’ video is out. I wrote this video treatment over a year ago and really wanted to play out symbolically how it’s felt for me to have the fans helping me reclaim my music. I had my heart set on Joey King, Taylor Lautner and Presley Cash starring in it. Joey and Presley had been in the video for ‘Mean’ when they were 9 and 13 and they are back and so ridiculously bad ass!! Taytay is INCREDIBLE in this (didn’t have a stunt double!) and shout out to Tay Lautner for being so awesome to hang with on set. The Tale of 3 Taylors 😆 I always wanted to direct fight scenes/a heist storyline and had the most incredible time plotting this out with my amazing DP Jonathan Sela. So proud of this one.

Summary — Jason refused to believe Eddie when he said that the person in the picture he held was his girlfriend. You came back and punched Jason in the face. All these fights with the monsters from the upside down taught you how to throw a punch.
read happiness (1), and paper rings (2) first as this is (3)
Length — 6.7k
Warning — suggestive content only because i don’t know how to write smut :) i only know how to write fluff :( also, go check out @.softwarmhoodies on twitter if you want to see eddie in a braid <3

In addition to writing to the kids every week, Eddie and you also wrote to each other a lot. Not only would you write to each other, but Eddie and you would also have calls every night. You would study together, in total silence, with Eddie’s cassettes playing in the background.
‘My uncle’s been asking about you,’ Eddie told you one night.
‘Really?’ you smiled.
‘Yeah, he loved the pastries you made. And when I told him you could cook too, he said that he couldn’t wait to have you back here. He also insulted me for not introducing you to him sooner.’
‘You’ll have to tell me what he likes then. I have to make a good impression.’
‘Oh, no need for that,’ Eddie reassured you, ‘he likes you already.’
‘I like him too, he was very nice when I met him.’
That was almost three months ago, and Eddie missed you, a lot. He was used to going to your place every morning, and now, suddenly, he was back to eating cereal in the morning, and cold food for lunch at school, and greasy pizza at night with his uncle.
If it were up to Eddie, he would have been on the phone with you all day long, every day, but that was not possible with you being drowned in assignments. And he learnt it the hard way when he called your house the first Saturday after school started.
‘Hello?’ your father answered the phone.
‘Hello, mh—,’ Eddie hesitated, ‘is y/n here?’
‘No.’
‘Oh,’ Eddie expected more. ‘Is she going to be home soon?’
‘No.’
‘Oh,’ Eddie did not know what to say anymore.
‘Oh give me the phone,’ Eddie heard a woman’s voice. ‘Hello, I’m y/n’s mother. My husband was just messing around. y/n told us you might call.’
‘Oh, hello Mrs y/l/n. Is she coming home soon?’ Eddie asked again.
‘So, y/n is at the library and she usually comes home late,’ she explained, ‘but I’ll let her know you called and tell her to call you back tomorrow?’
‘She can call me tonight,’ Eddie added.
‘Okay, I’ll let her know,’ your mother smiled.
‘Thanks… goodbye then?’ Eddie said awkwardly.
‘Good bye Eddie,’ she replied sweetly.
Eddie made sure that starting from now, you would be the one calling.
‘I never want to talk to your father on the phone ever again,’ Eddie told you that night.
When your finals approached, Eddie did not hear from you for two whole weeks. He did worry, but when he heard Dustin, Mike, Lucas and Max talk about you and how stressed you were around your first semester’s finals and that you did not write anything around that time, he calmed down and patiently waited for you to call him.
A few days later, at lunch, he noticed Max eating at her table, reading your letter. He knew it was from you because you always bought coloured papers to write in. Each colour represented a kid. Max’s was lavender, and he was red — it was ruby red you had told him. Eddie still had not received his letter or any phone calls, which was weird.
‘Dustin,’ Eddie sat down at the cafeteria, ‘when is your mother coming back?’
‘y/n said she’ll be there in two weeks,’ Dustin kept eating his lunch, not commenting on what Eddie had said.
Eddie nodded and let him eat in peace. Two more weeks before he could see you again. That night, he ran back home hoping to see your letter on his kitchen counter, but nothing. The next morning, he waited for a mailman to come, but there was no one. He skipped the first period for nothing. As he walked through the door to go school for the next one, he saw the usual mailman walking towards him.
‘For you,’ he grumbled, throwing a letter to Eddie before walking away.
Eddie put the letter in his bag and ran to school — he will read the letter later. Time passed too slowly for Eddie, who just wanted to leave this class and go read your letter, alone, at the cafeteria.
When the time came, Eddie ran out of the classroom to go to the cafeteria, to his usual table. It was still pretty empty at this hour, and the kids were not coming in for at least another fifteen minutes. So, he took your letter out, and started to read it.
‘My dear Eddie,
I’m sorry I wasn’t able to reply to you any sooner or call you for the past few weeks. My finals have been very stressful, but I think I did alright. I’ll be waiting for the results before coming back to Hawkins you. I missed you so much, I missed hearing your voice and your laugh. I missed hearing you play the guitar on the phone. I missed hearing you talk about your day. Not calling you has been hell, but I knew if I called you, I wouldn’t have been able to hang up.
I hope you’re doing fine with your classes. Also, I wanted this to be a surprise, but I really want to tell you now (I am building up your expectations). I bought you a gift! And you can’t refuse it, because it is a graduation gift. I hope you’ll like it. I’ll bring it when I come back!
I’m spending the next two weeks with my parents, travelling around a bit before I leave them, which is why you’re not receiving my letter at the same time as the kids. I wanted to take a few pictures of the landscape for you to admire. You can find the polaroids in the enveloppe. I’ll keep—.’
Before Eddie could finish his letter, someone snatched it from his hands.
‘Got refused by yet another college, freak?’ Jason laughed with his friends, ‘or by a girl?’
‘Give it back,’ Eddie tried to take the letter back.
‘My dear Eddie,’ Jason started to read the letter with a mocking tone, ‘I’m—.’
But Eddie snatched the letter back violently, crumbling the paper, and tearing it a little. Everything was fine, as soon as Jason did not have it in hand, everything would be fine.
‘Look at what we have here,’ one of Jason’s friends said, holding up one of your polaroids, ‘who is that?’
In the picture were you and your parents at the beach. The sun was bright that day, the three of you were all squinting your eyes, trying to block the sun with your hands. Eddie did not say anything, walked to Jason’s friend, and tried to take the picture back, but Jason was faster.
‘Who is that? You girlfriend?’ Jason dared him.
‘Yeah, don’t cream your pants,’ Eddue fumed, trying to get the picture back.
‘Who’s that?’ Jason asked again. ‘That can’t be your girl here.’
‘None of your business.’
Eddie sighed, trying to keep calm, but Jason started to push Eddie around, so all Eddie could do was punch Jason in the face. Eddie was not a violent person, he loved to talk back to people and be loud, but violence was never something he did. But this time, it was about you, he had to do something. He knew punching someone could hurt, but punching someone with metal rings on your fingers will definitely hurt and make the person bleed.
‘Give me my girlfriend’s picture back you fucking moron,’ Eddie grabbed Jason’s jacket.
‘Girlfriend,’ Jason smirked, wiping the blood from his nose with his sleeve. ‘Freak,’ Jason spat, before ripping the picture in half and throwing it on the ground.
Jason left with his friends. The cafeteria was still rather empty, but there were some students there and they were all staring at Eddie with pity. He turned around, ready to pick the picture up so he could fix it with some tape. He found himself face to face with the four kids, staring at him in shock.
‘Girlfriend?’ Dustin was holding the two pieces of the picture,  ‘y/n is your girlfriend?’
‘Uh,’ Eddie hesitated.
You and Eddie never talked about it again. His uncle knew, and your parents knew — they wanted to know why the phone bill was so high since you came back home — but that was it. He did not know if he should tell them or deny everything.
‘I don’t know what you’re talking about,’ Eddie snatched the picture back and put it back in the envelope alongside the letter.
‘What did you mean by girlfriend then?’ Lucas asked, just as curious as the other kids.
‘Well,’ Eddie looked at them, ‘she’s a girl, and my friend so yeah, girl friend,’ he paused between the two words.
‘I don’t believe you,’ Max said. ‘None of us do.’
‘You punched Jason,’ Mike added.
‘Yeah, well I think he deserved it,’ Eddie shrugged.
He put the envelope back into his back and went to bring some food, with the four kids following him behind closely.
‘What did you mean by it then,’ Dustin kept insisting.
‘I didn’t mean anything. It was—,’ Eddie did not know how to explain that situation. ‘We’re not together.’
‘I call bullshit,’ Max said. ‘But then… When did you ask her out?’
‘Probably when she was still here right?’ Lucas suggested.
‘No,’ Dustin disagreed, ‘I mean, we would’ve known right?’
They looked at each other, confused.
‘Maybe we should call her?’ Mike wondered.
‘No,’ Max said, ‘remember she said she was travelling with her parents.’
‘Eddie—,’ Dustin turned around, but Eddie had already disappeared.
Eddie left as soon as he received his food, and went back to his table to eat with his friends. He tried his best at ignoring and avoiding the kids the whole day. Then in less than two weeks, you would be here and you would know what to do about all this.
That night, when Eddie went home, he immediately went to his bedroom and took out the content of the envelope. He took some translucent tape and started to put the picture back in one piece. Then he took the letter and opened it carefully. Thankfully, only the sides had been torn apart. He started to read it again.
‘... You can find the polaroids in the enveloppe. I’ll keep taking some pictures and I’ll try to send them to you if I can. I remembered the pictures you sent to me a few months ago and I wanted to do the same.
I cannot wait to see you again,
Yours truly,
y/n’
These were the two longest weeks of Eddie’s life. He received one more letter the following week, simply with the date of your arrival in Hawkins. He also had a hard time avoiding the kids who kept pestering him with questions about you. He had to cancel his campaign to avoid them.
‘I have to study,’ Eddie lied to them all.
Tumblr media
You were leaving for Hawkins on Saturday morning. On Friday, you were packing up everything when your mother called you downstairs, all excited.
‘What’s happening?’ you ran downstairs.
‘This!’ she showed you a letter from your university.
‘Oh,’ you took the letter.
Your heart started to beat faster, your hands started to sweat — this was stressful. You studied hard for the finals, there was no way you had failed this. You opened the letter and gasped happily, jumping around.
‘I got an A! 94%!’
Your parents and you celebrated in a nice restaurant, and then it was already time to say goodbye. Your father put your suitcases in the trunk of the car.
‘We’ll come and visit Hawkins, ok?’ your mother smiled.
‘Gotta meet that boy of yours, right,’ your father added.
‘Yes,’ you smiled.
You wave them goodbye one last time before starting the car. In less than five hours, you would see Eddie again. In your car, there were your suitcases, your gift for Eddie, and plenty of freshly cooked food in a thermal bag. You were headed toward Eddie’s trailer, not your home.
When you finally saw the familiar ‘welcome to Hawkins’ sign, you started to drive faster. You had to see Eddie now, or you would run over a stranger. Once there, you got out of the car with your hands full of food, leaving your gift and suitcases in the car first.
‘y/n?’ you heard Max’s voice.
‘Max!’ you turned around, surprised.
‘What are you doing here?’ she hugged you. ‘I thought you weren’t arriving until late tonight?’
‘Did I say that? I— I probably just changed my mind,’ you smiled.
‘Well, I’ll call the others,’ she ran back to her house.
‘Wait,’ you called her, but she was already inside her trailer.
At the same time, Eddie, who heard your car from inside, came out to greet you. Eddie ran to you and wrapped his arms tightly around you. Before saying anything, he put his hands around your face and kissed you desperately. He had waited for this moment for way too long.
‘Oh, my eyes! My eyes!’ Max yelled, covering her eyes, dropping her walkie-talkie on the grass.
‘Oh,’ Eddie stepped back, face red, ‘that’s why you didn’t come in.’
‘Yep,’ you smiled, shyly.
‘Max? Max! What happened?’ you heard Lucas’ voice through the walkie.
Max uncovered her eyes and looked at you, waiting for permission to tell the others about what she saw. You looked at Eddie, and he nodded. You looked back at Max and nodded, before she grabbed the walkie and went back to her trailer.
‘They were about to find it out anyway, right?’
‘Yeah,’ Eddie smiled. ‘Come,’ he grabbed your hand and took you inside. ‘I cleaned up,’ he looked at you proudly.
‘It looks great,’ you agreed. ‘Where’s your uncle?’
‘He’s working, he’s usually back later in the afternoon.’
‘Oh, so—,’ you put the bags on the ground, ‘we’re alone for another few hours?’ you sat next to him on the couch.
‘Yeah,’ Eddie nodded.
You stared at him, smiling.
‘Do you remember what you wrote to me a few weeks ago?’
‘About what?’ Eddie frowned, looking genuinely confused.
‘About what you— we would do when I come back,’ you tried to make it understand subtly.
‘Oh,’ Eddie started to blush violently. ‘I— I remember.’
‘Great,’ you stood up eagerly, ‘let’s do it then,’ you threw your jacket on the couch.
‘Wait,’ Eddie nervously took your hand, ‘I don’t have protection,’ he frowned.
‘It’s ok, I bought condoms on my way here,’ you took him with you to his bedroom.
‘Wait,’ he stopped you again, ‘I—,’ he avoided your gaze.
‘What’s wrong?’ you worried. ‘Oh, did you change your mind?’ you dropped his hand. ‘I’m sorry—.’
‘No, no,’ he reassured you, ‘believe me when I tell you that I have been dreaming about this for a long time.’
‘Then, what’s wrong? You can tell me anything you know,’ you gently rubbed his arms.
‘I’ve never done this before,’ Eddie admitted.
‘Ok, me neither,’ you said casually. ‘Eddie, it’s going to be alright.’
‘Ok,’ he smiled before dragging you to his bedroom.
Tumblr media
You were both panting and sweating, laying on his bed.
‘It was alright?’ Eddie worried a bit.
‘It was great,’ you smiled, resting your head on his naked chest. ‘More than great. Did you like it?’
‘Did I like it? I love it. It was amazing, you were amazing,’ Eddie kissed you, ‘you are incredible.’
Eddie started to kiss you again when you both heard a loud bang on his front door.
‘Eddie! y/n!’ you recognised Dustin's voice. ‘We know you’re here! Open the door!’
‘Shit!’
‘Fuck!’
Eddie and you looked at each other, panicked, and started to dress up again. You both tried to fix your hair as well as you could before running back to the living room. You jumped on the couch and Eddie went to open the door.
‘Finally!’ Dustin sighed before running in with the others to hug you.
‘Hey!’ you hugged them back.
‘What were you guys doing?’ Mike wondered.
‘Drinking,’ you immediately responded, not hesitating one second.
They all looked around, but no bottles were near the room.
‘Water,’ you continued. ‘Drinking water, we were and now that we talk about it, I have to pee,’ you stood up from the couch, ‘I’ll be right back!’
While you were gone, the four kids all stared at Eddie suspiciously.
‘So, you are y/n’s boyfriend,’ Dustin started.
‘Yeah,’ Eddie leaned against the wall.
‘Since when?’ Mike asked.
‘Since it’s none of your business,’ Eddie said.
‘Mmh,’ Dustin stared at Eddie.
‘Your hair is all messed up,’ Max mentioned just when you were coming back.
‘I was trying out new haircuts for Eddie,’ you went to Eddie’s side. ‘Eddie would look great in a—,’ you looked at him, ‘in a bun or in a braid and I can confirm that, he looks dashing,’ you smiled.
The kids all shrugged and sat on the couch, looking at you.
‘Did you guys eat? I bought food with me,’ you picked up the bags and took the food out.
They all ran to you and picked their favourite before going back to the couch.
‘You hungry?’ you asked Eddie.
‘Yeah, I mean,’ Eddie got closer to you, ‘after what we did, of course I am.’
‘Eddie,’ you playfully punched him in the chest.
‘What are you guys talking about,’ Dustin smiled, appearing in front of you two, making you jump away from Eddie.
‘Nothing in particular,’ you said.
‘So, when did you guys start dating?’ Dustin asked since Eddie refused to answer Mike earlier.
‘Just before I left,’ you admitted.
‘Oh,’ Dustin smiled, ‘so our little talk did work on both of you.’
‘What talk?’ you and Eddie asked at the same time.
‘Meh,’ Dustin shrugged, going back to his friends, ‘not important.’
‘I’ll have so many things to tell El on the phone later,’ Max laughed.
The kids stayed with you two until around five, then they all had to go home. Then soon after that, Eddie’s uncle came home.
‘Mr Munson,’ you walked to him, ‘it’s great to see you again,’ you smiled.
‘Ah,’ Wayne smiled, ‘Eddie told me you would be here. It’s great to see you too.’
‘I bought food for you, it’s in the fridge. Eddie told me you wanted to try my cooking a few months back so I thought that would be the ideal occasion.’
Eddie stood from the couch and put himself behind you, putting his hands on your shoulders.
‘We’ll let you eat in peace,’ Eddie said, ‘and we’ll stay in my room.’
‘Don’t make too much noise,’ Wayne warned you two before grabbing his food.
But Eddie had already closed the door.
‘Shout we change your bed sheet?’ you asked him. ‘It’s full of sweat.’
‘Yeah,’ Eddie agreed. ‘I’ll have to go to the laundromat tomorrow.’
‘Or you could come to my house,’ you suggested, ‘I have a washing machine at home. Wait, you actually still have classes soon, so I can do that and bring it back to you.’
‘It’s alright,’ Eddie reassured you, starting to strip the bed.
You helped him put on the new bed sheets and you both lay on the bed, you head on his chest, one leg over his body, and his arm around you.
‘This is nice,’ you played with his guitar pick necklace.
‘Yeah,’ Eddie smiled at you, ‘I missed you so much, it’s insane.’
‘I missed you too! I can’t wait to spend the rest of my summer break here with you. Though I’d have to find a job.’
‘What are you thinking about?’
‘Maybe in a bookshop or something, any job. What about you? Did you think about what you’ll do once you graduate?’ you asked. ‘Did you apply to any colleges yet?’
‘I— I’m still waiting for answers.’
The truth was that Eddie applied to at least fifteen universities, all of them were music schools. And he already received six rejections, which he did not want to tell you yet. He wanted to bring you good news, not bad ones.
‘Oh, I’m sure you’ll soon hear from them. I remember you saying you wanted to go study music, is that still what you want?’
‘Yeah, I mean I would have loved a DnD degree, but that doesn’t exist so, music was my best bet.’
‘I think it suits you very well,’ you agreed. ‘Oh, right,’ you gasped, sitting up. ‘I have your gift with me.’
‘Shouldn’t you give it to me when I graduate?’
‘Oh come on, you know that was just an excuse to buy you something!’ Come with me.’
You put your shoes back on, and walked out with Eddie. You unlocked your car, and there was his gift all wrapped up.
‘Careful with it!’ you told Eddie when he started to lift it up.
You locked your car and followed Eddie inside the trailer. He carefully put it on the ground, and sat next to you on the ground.
‘What is that?’ Wayne came into the living room.
‘A gift,’ you smiled.
Wayne sat on the couch. Eddie looked at you, and you nodded before he started to tear the wrapping paper up. He opened the box and his mouth opened forming an O shape.
‘What the fuck,’ Eddie gasped, looking at you and then at his uncle.
‘Do you like it?’ you beamed. ‘I had it custom made for you.’
‘I— this is incredible!’ Eddie took the electric guitar out.
It was a simple black guitar, but on it was painted his hellfire club’s logo.
‘I asked my dad to pick the guitar, because I have no knowledge whatsoever. He says it’s one of the best in the market.’
‘This is amazing,’ he looked at you, but then his smile dropped.
‘What’s wrong?’ you asked, worried.
‘How much was this?’ Eddie asked you, putting the guitar back in the box.
‘Oh,’ you waved your hand, ‘it doesn’t matter. It’s a gift!’
‘y/n—.’
‘Eddie,’ you cut him off, ‘really it doesn’t— it shouldn’t matter. Believe me.’
‘But—.’
‘It’s a graduation gift!’ you cut him off again.
‘Eddie, just accept the lady’s gift’ his uncle agreed with you. ‘You’ll buy her a gift too someday.’
Eddie looked back at the guitar and smiled, happy.
‘Thank you,’ Eddie stood up and kissed you deeply.
Eddie tried out his new guitar that same night, playing songs he learnt recently.
‘Oh!’ you suddenly shouted, ‘I just remembered, I have a gift for your uncle too!’
‘You already bought healthy food in, I think he’s happy.’
‘Wait here,’ you ran back to your car.
During your two weeks break with your parents, they brought you to an artisanal shop, where a couple of women made a lot of things from scratch. Your parents requested them to make them matching rings for their twenty fifth year of marriage. And you also put in your request.
‘A mug?’ Eddie laughed softly.
‘Yeah,’ you hand your mug to Wayne, ‘when I first came in, the first thing I noticed was all your collection and I thought about you!’
Wayne smiled, taking your gift.
‘It says ‘best uncle’ here,’ you showed him. ‘And I know because whenever Eddie talks about you, it’s only good stuff so I know it’s accurate.’
‘Thank you,’ Wayne smiled. ‘I think this might become my favourite mug there.’
The three of you naturally formed a new family. Wayne could not have been happier for Eddie. He knew what the town said about Eddie and how they perceived him, and then you came in like a ray of sunshine and made sure that Eddie was happy.
‘Thank you,’ Wayne said again, but this time he walked up to you and hugged you tightly.
‘Oh, it’s nothing really,’ you smiled, hugging him back. ‘I’m really glad you liked it.’
In the next few days, you found a job at the local bookshop, where you worked Monday to Friday, from 9am to 2pm with an hour break at lunch time. The bookshop was really close to where Robin and Steve worked, meaning the three of you would hang out together a lot during lunch time, the two of them eating whatever you would bring.
Eddie and you spent a lot of time together too, you would sometimes sleep over at his trailer, or he would come to your house. You made sure he was studying alright so he would graduate without any problems.
‘Ugh,’ Eddie fell back on his bed, ‘I hate this. Science is so useless.’
‘You said that for every subject we’ve been studying.’
‘Because I hate every subject, they’re all too complicated.’
‘You’re good at maths,’ you said.
‘Meh.’
‘Do you want to take a break?’
‘No,’ Eddie sighed, ‘I just can’t wait for this to be over.’
‘Four more weeks and you’ll be done with everything.’
That night, you spent it at Eddie’s. Wayne never minded you being here — the more the merrier, he would always say — because it also meant he would be eating well when you were there. When you woke in the morning, Eddie and Wayne were already gone — it was 8:05 — so you took a quick shower and started to clean up your mess in Eddie’s room. You were taking out trash when you knocked a box off the table.
‘Fuck!’
You thought for a second it was Eddie’s drug box, but it was only papers in it. You started to pick it up, when you noticed it was all your letters and polaroids. A smile appeared on your face and you put everything back in the box, but your eyes fell on one of your last letters. It was all crumbled and one picture was all taped up. It was weird but you did not have any more time because you had to leave for work.
Tumblr media
‘I found your box,’ you told him that night.
‘My box?’ Eddie looked at you confused, ‘Are you telling me to say that you want to try some?’
‘Try some?’ you repeated confused. ‘What—.’
‘My box,’ Eddie pointed at the box next to his bag.
‘No, your box,’ you pointed at the one on the table.
‘Oh.’
‘Was my letter damaged when you received it? Because if it did, I will—.’
‘No, it was—,’ Eddie sighed.
Eddie never told you about Jason. And he was not planning on doing so, but you were bound to find out if you had to come to his graduation later on. So he did, he told you about Jason and what he and his friends did that day.
‘You punched him?’ you gasped.
‘Well I had to,’ Eddie protested.
‘Eddie you were alone! They were at least four or five,’ you pointed out, ‘they could have all fought back, together and you'd probably have ended up in a hospital or something.’
‘But I didn’t.’
‘Eddie, these people are insane and they’re dangerous because they’re certified idiots! You should've just walked away.’
‘And let them take away my stuff? No.’
‘Eddie—,’ you started to object.
‘It’s ancient history, just let it go,’ Eddie tried to reason with you. ‘Please? It really wasn’t a big deal, they haven't done anything to me since then so, it’s all good.’
‘I—,’ you looked at him, ‘fine, I’m sorry.’
You were both in the bedroom, but the atmosphere was weird now. So you opened the door, ready to leave his room.
‘Wait,’ Eddie quickly stood from his bed to catch your arm, ‘where are you going?’ he worried.
‘I was going to prepare your lunch for tomorrow,’ you looked away.
‘y/n,’ Eddie did not let go of your arm. ‘We’re ok right? This wasn’t a fight.’
‘No, we’re good,’ you finally looked at him, ‘Eddie,’ you put your hands on his cheeks, ‘we’re good.’
‘Ok. I’ll help you make the food.’
Eddie dragged you with him to the kitchen.
‘Eddie,’ you called him softly, ‘you don’t have to, you can just sit next to me like usual.’
‘No, I want to help.’
You nodded. You two started to make a club sandwich with smoked salmon, tomato, salad and mayo. You also made some of Eddie’s favourite cookies, while that was cooking in the oven you put the sandwich in a little plastic bag. When you had time, you would make Eddie’s and Max’s lunch, and also make yours and Robin’s and Steve’s. In Eddie’s and Max’s bag could be found the salmon sandwiches, some cookies, an apple for Max and some grapes for Eddie, and some potato chips with a bottle of water.
Tumblr media
Eddie was at lunch with his usual hellfire club friends, eating in the loud cafeteria.
‘Can I have some of y/n’s cookies?’ Dustin smiled.
Eddie threw the bag at him knowing you baked extras for them. Then out of nowhere, Jason and his appeared behind Dustin and took the bag of cookies.
‘This is good,’ Jason ate one of them, then spit it out on Dustin’s tray. ‘Your girlfriend made these?’ Jason looked at Eddie.
Eddie only stared at him, and smiled.
‘Jealous much?’
Jason chuckled drily, and slapped Eddie’s hand making his sandwich be thrown on the ground. Some students turned their heads around, but very quickly went back to their chatters. Before Eddie could react, Jason punched Eddie in the face, grabbing onto his hellfire shirt.
‘That was for punching me last time, freak,’ Jason fumed.
Then Eddie and Jason started a fist fight, which made everyone else in the cafeteria shout and clap. Dustin, Lucas and Mike tried to stop Jason’s friend from joining Jason by throwing at them food and trays that were on the table.
Jason knew how to fight, whereas Eddie, not so much. When the headteacher came in and separated and calmed everyone down, he took a bloodied Eddie, and the kids with him. Jason was never going to be in trouble and he knew it, he was, after all, the star player of the school.
‘Mr Munson,’ the headteacher started to say, ‘this is unacceptable!’
‘But Jason was the one punching the hell out of Eddie’s—,’ Dustin started to protest.
‘I’m not talking to you,’ he turned to face Dustin, then back to Eddie. ‘You are so close to graduating Mr Munson, you don’t want to be suspended and thus failing your graduation again, right?’
‘No,’ Eddie gritted through his teeth.
‘I won’t call anyone, there’s no need right?’ Mr Snow smiled fakely. ‘I’ll let you kids go home and think about it again alright?’
‘And Jason?’ Mike asked bravely.
‘What about Mr Craver?’
‘He is the one who started everything!’ Lucas said.
‘What I saw,’ Mr Snow smiled, ‘was Mr Munson punching one of the students in the cafeteria. That will be all,’ he showed them the door.
‘Can we call someone?’ Dustin asked before leaving.
Tumblr media
Steve, Robin and you were eating in the Family Video store’s breakroom, when you heard the phone rings. Steve stood up and answered it.
‘y/n,’ Steve called you a minute after, ‘it’s for you.’
‘Me?’ you asked, perplexed. ‘Hello?’ you asked when Steve handed you the phone.
‘y/n?’ you recognised Dustin’s voice.
‘Hey what’s wrong? Why are you calling me here?’
‘I— can you come and pick us up?’
‘I still have work Dustin,’ you looked at the clock, ‘I have work until two.’
‘We’ll wait, can you pick us after that?’ Dustin pressed on urgently.
‘Yeah sure, what’s wrong, Dustin?’ you asked again, worried.
‘Nothing, see you soon then,’ he hung up.
The next two hours of work were the most stressful ever. You just wanted to leave and pick Dustin up after his call. When you saw your co-worker — the one who works after you — came in early, you asked her if it was alright for you to leave early.
‘Sure, is something wrong?’ she asked, worried.
‘Yes, I think. Thank you, and tomorrow, you can come in later and I’ll wait alright,’ you shouted before starting your car.
You drove fast, and parked your car in the half empty school parking lot. You got out of the car and looked around and spotted a group of people just behind the stairs next to the entrance doors.
‘Dustin!’ you shouted.
‘y/n!’ Dustin came running to you.
‘Dustin what’s wrong!’
‘Come!’ Dusitn grabbed your hand and led you to the group.
You both walked quickly over there, and you could see Lucas and Mike standing in front of someone.
‘Don’t freak out,’ Lucas said and moved away with Mike.
‘What the fuck!’ you shouted, all sorts of emotions rushing in.
Eddie was unrecognisable, his face swollen, lip bursted, the start of a black-eye appearing and bleeding from some minor wounds here and there.
‘Hey,’ Eddie tried to smile at you.
‘Eddie,’ you rushed to him, gently stroking his hair, not wanting to hurt his face more, ‘what happened?’
‘It’s nothing—.’
‘Eddie!’ you fumed, ‘this,’ you pointed at his face, ‘is not nothing,’ you turned around to face the kids. ‘One of you start to talk, now.’
The three of them looked at each other, but seeing Eddie refusing to explain, they all thought it would be better not to say anything.
‘Nothing?’ you scoffed.
‘Well, well, well’, you heard a voice behind you. ‘The freak’s girlfriend is there, who knew she was real?’
‘And who are you?’ you turned around, pushing the kids behind you.
‘Jason, nice to meet you,’ he stretched his hand out.
You stared at him, not taking his hand. You slowly walked up to him and violently grabbed his collar and brought his face close to yours.
‘You call my boyfriend a freak again and I will find a way to bury you alive on the school grounds,’ you threatened him.
‘Cute,’ Jason laughed it off, trying to make you release him.
Jason’s smile dropped when he noticed how strongly you were holding him, choking him slightly.
‘I’m not punching a girl,’ Jason slowly said, ‘but I will if you don’t let me go. See what I did to Munson there.’
You let your right hand go and grabbed the pocket knife you always kept on you and pointed the knife close to his neck, and with your left hand behind his neck to keep it close to the knife.
‘One movement, and you die Carver,’ you whispered. ‘Next time I hear you did shit, I will come and find you while you sleep peacefully in your mansion on 213 Lakeview.’
Jason’s eyes widened at the mention of his home address, and nodded.
‘Good,’ you smiled, before putting the knife back in your pocket.
You straightened his jacket and punched him in the nose as hard as you could, breaking it by the way and walking away signalling to the kids and Eddie to come to the car. You saw Jason’s friends starting to walk towards you but you heard Jason stopping them.
‘Let’s go,’ Jason walked away with his friends.
Eddie took the passenger seat, while the kids sat behind. You started the car and started to drive.
‘So, what happened?’ you asked again, still upset.
‘Jason ate one of the cookies and then he spit it on my tray!’ Dustin started to talk. ‘Then he threw Eddie food away, and then out of nowhere he started to punch Eddie like his life depended on it. So naturally, Eddie starts to fight back, but that didn’t go well,’ he mumbled the last few words. ‘Then, Mr Snow, that old piece of shit just— he just talked to us, not Jason and he was saying how Eddie had to calm down and how he was the one in the wrong and all that shit.’
‘Should we get Eddie to the hospital?’ Mike asked you.
‘No,’ Eddie said, ‘I’m fine.’
‘I’ll clean it up at home, he’s fine,’ you agreed. ‘And why were the three of you with Eddie, outside of school?’
‘Well, we had to do something,’ Lucas said, ‘so he used what we had to prevent Jason’s friends from going and help him beat Eddie up, right?’
‘Meaning?’
‘We threw things at them. Also,’ Dustin wanted to change the subject, ‘when did you learn to throw punches like that?’
‘Right!’ Mike was curious too, ‘I swore I saw his nose in a weird shape after you punched him.’
Fighting alongside the gang against monsters did teach you how to defend yourself and use a gun. But you couldn’t say that in front of Eddie. So you just shrugged. You dropped the kids off at their places before driving to yours.
‘I would’ve walked away,’ Eddie mumbled.
‘No, what I said yesterday was wrong. He deserved to be punched, if I could—,’ you tried to calm down. ‘Honestly, I would be ok being charged with murder if that means killing that jerk myself.’
‘Thank you for coming today,’ Eddie smiled, but it looked more like a grimace than anything else.
When you finally arrived home, you brought Eddie with you to the bathroom where you kept some emergency kits. You cleaned his wounds and gave him an ice pack for the swelling. Eddie had some clothes here so you brought it to him so he could change.
‘It’s going to swell even more tomorrow,’ you sat with him on your bed.
‘I’ll be fine,’ Eddie laid on your bed.
‘Four more weeks,’ you laid next to him, ‘and we’ll never see his face again.’
‘Are you ok?’ Eddie slightly turned his face to face you. ‘You seem… worried?’
‘I hate seeing you like this,’ you sighed.
‘I’m ok now.’
You stared at him, unconvinced.
‘What did you say to him?’ Eddie wondered. ‘Did you threaten him with a knife or was my eye so swollen I saw wrong?’
‘I—,’ you thought about what you did in the spur of the moment. ‘It wasn’t anything important, but if he ever bothers you again, you should tell me.’
Eddie smiled at you.
‘What?’ you asked, smiling back.
‘I didn’t think you could be that…,’ Eddie paused to think.
‘Violent?’ you asked.
‘Mmh, yeah,’ Eddie agreed.
‘I thought Dustin was hurt,’ you told him. ‘He called and just asked me to pick him up, and I was worried. Then I saw you, I—,’ you paused, ‘I was just so angry someone did that and when Jason came in, I knew. I just knew he did it and I had to do something.’
‘Maybe I’ll have to start eating somewhere else. Avoid him?’
‘No. Why should you be the one hiding?’ you sat up, looking at him. ‘You never hid before, why should you start now?’
‘He never punched me before. Insulted? Sure. Called me a freak? Yes. I was winning that verbal battle, but this...’
‘You don’t go anywhere Eddie Munson, because if he approaches you again, I will kill him.’
‘My knight in armour,’ Eddie joked, smiling.
‘My princess in distress,’ you added laughing.
These last four weeks before graduation were long, too long even but it was finally here. Eddie, in his graduation gown, with you around his arm, in your favourite dress. Eddie passed his graduation with a B–. He worked hard for it.
When his name was called, you and kids, Steve and Robin, and Nancy and Wayne all stood up cheering loudly for him. It was a memorable day for Eddie. He ran to you and threw himself at you, diploma at hand, and kissed you passionately, pressing his body to yours, holding your face.
‘Oh come on,’ Steve interrupted you two, ‘not in front of the kids,’ Steve was shielding the kids with his hands.
‘Finally free to play at the arcade all day long!’ Dustin shouted happily, pushing Steve’s hand away.
The day was spent at Steve’s — minus Wayne —, all enjoying the warm day in Steve’s pool. It was Eddie’s first time at Steve’s and he was enjoying himself a lot. Everything was perfect. Late at night, Eddie and you walked back to your house as it was rather close to Steve’s.
‘Wait,’ Eddie grabbed your arm before you could go into the house.
Eddie placed his hands on your face, and looked straight into your eyes.
‘I love you,’ Eddie breathed.
You could not stop the smile that was forming on your face. Eddie and you never told that to each other, yet, in that moment, it felt so natural, like it was the hundredth time he said it.
‘I love you too Eddie Munson,’ you closed the gap between you two and pressed your lips on his. ‘Also,’ you continued when he broke the kiss, ‘my parents are coming here tomorrow, and they want to meet you,’ you smiled.

You got out of bed and picked up the phone.
‘Hello?’ you said weakly.
‘Hi,’ you could hear Eddie’s smile.
Silence. After realising that you liked Eddie Muson, it appeared as if you lost all social skills you had and did not know what to say anymore, just like when you were back in high school.
‘Did you walk a long time?’ you hesitated, not knowing what else to say.
‘It was alright, I’m used to walking home from school.’
‘Do you have your licence?’ you wondered, curious because you never saw Eddie driving around.
‘I,’ Eddie stretched on the vowel, ‘know how to start and drive a car.’
‘So you do?’
‘Let’s just say I do,’ Eddie laughed.
‘You liar!’ Dustin shouted on the phone.
‘Dustin shut up!’ you heard Mike say.
‘Dustin!’ you shouted from your room, ‘hang up!’
You made sure to wait a good minute before talking again.
‘They probably didn’t hang up,’ you warned Eddie, ‘so, I’ll see you tomorrow? Like— for breakfast, as usual?’
‘Yeah, I’ll be there.’
‘Ok,’ you let out a breath, ‘goodnight then.’
‘Goodnight.’
You hung up, and went downstairs to find the six children around the phone. Once they saw you, they all pretended to be watching TV, ignoring you. You put your hands on your hips and stared at them.
‘Anything you want to say to me?’ you asked, slightly annoyed.
‘I’m sorry,’ El stood up, ‘it was their idea,’ she pointed at the boys.
‘El!’ Mike shouted.
‘We won’t do it again,’ Lucas apologised.
‘We’re sorry,’ Will apologised too, hating to see you disappointed.
‘It’s alright,’ you sat with them on the couch, ‘it’s not like anything was going to happen anyway,’ you mumbled.
Soon enough, the kids all fell asleep on the couch instead of their rooms. Max fell asleep clinging to you, with El’s head on your shoulder. You gently grabbed the blanket and put it over them and fell asleep with them in the living room.
The kids all woke up around eight, and decided to make you breakfast for once. They all felt a little bad for yesterday's incident, so they thought this would make you happy.
‘So what do we make?’ Will asked them.
‘Waffles?’ El suggested.
‘Yeah, that seems easy enough,’ Max agreed.
Half of the waffles were burnt, but it was the thought that counted. You woke up when you heard the loud doorbell ring. You relanctly got up to open the door, only to find Eddie, in his usual leather jacket and denim one over the other.
‘Morning,’ Eddie smiled.
When you realised it was Eddie in front of you, you slammed the door shut. You were not cleaned up, or dressed up, you could not have him come in like that. You shouted at Dustin to open the door, while you ran to your bedroom to brush your teeth, clean up your hair, and put on some clothes before going back down.
‘Hey,’ you waved at them, walking in the kitchen, sitting next to Eddie.
‘Hey,’ he smiled at you.
You stared at him eating before looking away, smiling.
‘These weren’t made by me, by the way,’ you pointed at the waffles.
‘I could tell, these taste so much better than what I’m used to here,’ Eddie joked.
‘Well, if that’s the case, I guess you won’t be eating the lemon meringue pie I’ll be baking this afternoon?’ you frowned, also joking.
‘Really?’ Eddie beamed. ‘I have been dreaming about that pie for weeks!’
‘Yeah, maybe you could—.’
‘Great!’ Dustin cut you off excited, ‘it means Eddie’s free for another campaign right before Will has to go back to California right?’
Eddie looked at you, but you only nodded and smiled.
‘That’s a great idea!’ you agreed.
‘Yeah,’ Eddie nodded.
El and Max stayed with you and helped you bake the pie and the butterscotch oatmeal cookies — Eddie’s favourites — and you three spent the entire afternoon baking. You wanted to make sure that Eddie would have enough for at least a few days knowing that in a few days, you would be leaving too.
‘This is fun,’ El told you when the cookies were put in the oven.
‘It is,’ Max smiled, ‘I wish we could do this more often. I— I missed you two.’
‘Max,’ you put your hand on her head, ‘I missed you all too, a lot. In less than five months, it’ll be summer break and I’ll be staying here the whole time.’
Max nodeed, before wrapping her arms around you.
‘It’s ok Max,’ you rubbed her back. ‘It’ll be ok. Is everything alright at home?’ you sat down with Max and El.
‘It’s fine,’ Max shrugged. ‘My mom’s working, and she— just hangs in there. We haven’t found Billy’s father.’
‘Is the trailer park alright? Because if it’s too dangerous or anything, your mom and you can move in here.’
‘No, it’s alright,’ Max gave you a small smile.
‘Ok,’ you smiled, ‘but if anything goes wrong, you tell me, you call me and I’ll come back alright?’
Max nodeed. Max was the last kid to arrive, but that did not stop you from taking her under your care. You had to protect her, especially against her step-brother Billy, but that was not a problem anymore. Now, you had to make sure she was alright and lived a good life at Hawkins, which was complicated with you living so far away from them.
Tumblr media
‘So, Eddie,’ Dustin smiled when the campaign was over, ‘do you like y/n?’
‘Yeah, she’s great,’ Eddie said simply, grateful for the dark lights in the room.
‘You have been spending a lot of time together,’ Lucas smiled, ‘are you about to ask her out?’
‘That would be so great!’ Dustin insisted.
‘Eddie is about to become our uncle,’ Mike wiped a fake tear.
‘I thought this way would never come,’ Lucas fake cried with Mike.
‘You morons!’ Eddie threw his butt cushion at them. ‘I am not asking her out.’
‘Why not?’ Dustin whined. ‘You both are always glued together, you love spending time together for no reason, she likes talking about metal music, and DnD, and guitar with you when she never showed any interest before; you listen to pop music for her and I saw you reading her favourite book last week. She cooks and bakes for you almost every day since she arrived. You spent all your time with her too, when you never hang out with us outside of school and DnD campaigns. So why not ask her out?’
They all nodded, agreeing with Dustin. Eddie sighed heavily.
‘She is not staying here right? So what’s the point?’ Eddie sat down on his throne.
‘Suzie and I aren’t living next to each other, and yet, we love each other, and we make it work,’ Dustin said.
‘You have a girlfriend?’ Eddie yelped.
‘Don’t try and change the subject,’ Lucas said. ‘Do you think you’re too good for our y/n or something?’
‘What? No! What I meant was — y/n is great, the best even, and I, Eddie the Freak Munson, would never pull that,’ Eddie explained with a pang of his heart. ‘She doesn’t love me.’
‘But you do?’ Will asked timidly.
Eddie stared at Will, sighed, and looked down.
‘Who wouldn’t?’ Eddie mumbled, falling back against the throne. ‘Don’t tell her that!’ Eddie quickly added.
‘We won’t,’ Dustin promised, ‘because you will tell her that yourself.’
‘No I won’t,’ Eddie laughed sourly.
‘Will is leaving tomorrow, meaning, y/n will leave in two days, on saturday,’ Mike said.
‘It will give you plenty of time to confess your undying love to her,’ Lucas teased him.
‘If you don’t, we will,’ Dustin finished.
Eddie glared at Dustin.
‘Or maybe not,’ Dustin quickly added before leaving with his friends. ‘See you at home,’ he shouted before biking away.
Eddie took all his time cleaning up the room. Eddie never had a girlfriend, or any romantic relationships. He had crushes before, but nothing ever happened with his Freak title. He knew better than to ask anyone out and have the entire town gossip about it. But it was different with you. First, you were out of high school, second, you were actually nice to him, and third, you did not mind being seen with him, and the hellfire club.
After cleaning up everything, he went to your house. He was welcomed with a piece of his favourite pie and favourite cookies on a plate.
‘I put them aside for you because these monsters devoured everything,’ you pointed at the kids still eating alongside Robin and Steve who came in not long ago.
‘Thanks,’ he took the plate.
‘Come,’ you took his hand and pulled him on the couch, ‘it’s too loud in there,’ you showed the kitchen.
Eddie took the fork you handed him and started to eat, and once again, it was wonderful. He enjoyed every bite of the pie and the cookies. He took a piece of the pie with his fork and put it in front of you.
‘What are you doing,’ you backed away, laughing.
‘I’m sharing,’ Eddie smiled back at you.
You smiled and ate the pie. Eddie finished his plate by sharing it with you. He noticed that every time you cooked, you would always feed the others and only eat the remaining.
‘I wish you could stay here forever,’ Eddie admitted, putting the place on the table. ‘I wish we were friends when you were still here.’
‘Really?’
‘Yeah.’
‘I always wanted—.’
But you were cut off by everyone coming into the leaving room. Nancy stayed at your house that night, since Jonathan would be leaving tomorrow. Which meant, your house was packed with people. Nancy slept with Jonathan in the guest room, Joyce had her room, and Max, El and you slept on your bed, while Dustin, Lucas, Will and Mike all slept on mattresses put in your bedroom.
Eddie, Robin and Steve all left very late, not before reassuring you that Steve would drop Eddie off and that he would not walk home alone that late.
‘See you tomorrow,’ you waved goodbye at Eddie. ‘See you two around soon too,’ you hugged Robin and Steve.
You went back to bed, where all the kids were already ready to sleep. You washed up and went to bed, putting yourself in the middle.
‘So y/n,’ Dustin started, ‘remember that night, where you spaced out when we talked about Eddie?’
‘Eddie?’ Max smirked.
‘Is Eddie your boyfriend?’ El asked.
‘What!’ you sat down. ‘No! No, no, no, no. No. He is not my boyfriend, and I didn’t space out, I was just tired from driving you around and staying out late like that!’ you quickly blurted out.
‘But you like him, right?’ Lucas asked seriously.
‘Of course I like him,’ you stated, ‘I mean, he’s—,’ your thoughts drifted to Eddie.
‘Dreamy?’ Max laughed.
‘But do you like–like him?’ Mike asked.
‘In a romantic way,’ Dustin added.
‘I—,’ you did not know what to say.
‘Are you in love with Eddie?’ El gasped.
‘I—,’ you let out a deep breath.
You fall back on the bed.
‘I don’t know,’ you admitted. ‘I like him, I— I like Eddie a lot. I— think I might be in love with him.’
‘You should tell him that!’ Will smiled. ‘Because he—, I’m sure he loves you too,’ Will corrected himself. ‘He is always looking at you whenever you’re not looking, he always wants to spend time with you, he has to be in love — is what I think,’ Will added.
‘I agree,’ Dustin said.
‘Me too,’ Lucas agreed.
‘Yep,’ Mike nodded.
‘But, I’m leaving soon,’ you lamented. ‘I won’t even see him.’
‘Suzie and I, we don’t see each other every day,’ Dustin repeated his story, ‘yet we are in a relationship.’
‘I think you should tell him,’ Max lay next to you. ‘This town is cursed, so who knows what can happen… You have to live your life fully and that means putting yourself out there and telling the people who love, that you love them.’
You turned your head to look at Max with a soft smile.
‘I love you guys,’ you smiled, holding Max's hand tightly in yours.
‘We love you too,’ everyone said at the same time, laughing.
Joyce left early in the morning because of the long journey back home. Everyone was there saying goodbye, hugging each other. After they left, Dustin, Mike and Lucas all went back home too, on their bikes. You called Eddie and told him to come later because you were going to drive Max home first.
You never went to Max’s place before, so you let her guide you around and let you park your car in front of her trailer.
‘You’ll be alright?’ you asked her.
‘Yeah,’ Max nodded.
‘Ok, call me if you need anything.’
Max nodded again before leaving your car. You drove back home and stood in the hall. You got used to having this house full of people and now that it was empty, it felt weird. You walked to the kitchen and started to make breakfast. You had prepared some batter the day before, and you put them in a baking tin and put them in the oven. You took out some bananas and strawberries and cut them in thin pieces and put them on a plate.
Eddie knocked on your door just when you took the muffins out of the oven. You both sat next to each other and started to eat in silence. It was the first you two ate alone, without any of the kids around.
‘So,’ Eddie turned around to face you, ‘you’re leaving soon?’
‘I’m leaving Saturday morning, tomorrow is my last day here,’ you confirmed.
‘Oh,’ Eddie stared at his plate.
‘I’ll—,’ you looked at him, ‘I’ll miss you.’
Eddie looked up at you.
‘I mean,’ you quickly added, ‘like I’ll miss Max and Lucas, and Mike and Dustin!’
You did not want to hear Eddie say that you were being weird suddenly.
‘I’ll miss you too,’ Eddie smiled, ‘I’ll miss being well fed too. I can’t believe I’ll have to go back eating garbage food for the rest of my life,’ he sighed dramatically.
‘You are one drama king,’ you laughed. ‘I’ll be back around May, and then you’ll have to be stuck with me for at least four months.’
‘Don’t forget my graduation,’ Eddie added.
‘How can I forget? I’ll have to bring you a graduation gift,’ you thought, ‘what do you want?’
‘You,’ Eddie talked before he could think.
‘M–Me?’ you stuttered, smiling.
‘I mean, you being here will be enough.’
‘Oh. Right,’ you laughed, feeling hot from embarrassment.
Once breakfast was over, you put the plates away and took Eddie with you to your car.
‘Where are we going?’ Eddie asked you, letting you drag him around.
‘To the market.’
‘Why?’ he asked once in the car.
‘I wanted to prepare food for Max to freeze, so whenever her mom isn’t around to cook, she can just heat it.’
Eddie stared at you, lovingly.
‘What?’ you smiled.
‘Where did these kids find you?’
‘I used to babysit them,’ you explained. ‘I was on my way home, eating a cake that my mom had made for me, and I walked across the park, and I saw four children on the ground, with two of them crying, Will and Dustin. I was going to walk away, but then I saw a group of older guys, probably from high school, walking toward them.
‘I watched them grab the kids’ bags and toss it away and then they just laughed and walked away. It was horrible, so I walked over and helped them. They were children, they were eight, or nine and I was thirteen, almost fourteen, I had to do something,’ you continued to explain.
‘They explained that these guys just stole their snacks and that they were being bullied around by them. So I shared my food with them and I walked them home. And for a week, they would wait around the park and I would walk them home. And their mothers ended up asking me if I could babysit them, and I agreed, and I stayed with them the whole time.’
‘That was really nice of you,’ Eddie told you. ‘They all speak so highly of you, I thought they made you up.’
‘What?’ you laughed.
‘Yeah, I mean they were describing someone so good and perfect, I thought you weren’t real. Then I met you almost a month ago, and I still can’t believe it. You’re so kind and generous, it’s impossible to believe.’
‘I’m—,’ you looked away, smiling. ‘I think you’re really great too. I— Dustin talks about you very highly too. That kid loves you. They all do.’
‘And you?’ Eddie whispered.
‘Me?’ you repeated. ‘I— I—,’ you thought about what Max said to you last night. ‘I do too,’ you looked at him, ‘I like you.’
‘Really?’ Eddie could not believe his ears.
‘Yes,’ you said timidly. ‘You’re great, I— I loved spending time with you, and for the first time, I’m starting to think that, maybe, I wish I didn’t leave for college so I could stay here with you.’
You arrived at the market ten minutes ago, but neither of you wanted to leave yet.
‘I wish you didn’t have to leave too,’ Eddie grabbed your hand. ‘Because I like you a lot too, and I don’t want to let you go, ever again.’
‘You do?’ you beamed. ‘I can’t believe this,’ you mumbled to yourself.
‘So, what now?’ Eddie asked you.
‘I— I don’t know,’ you admitted. ‘I mean, people get together even when they live miles away from each other. So— we could too,’ you hesitated.
Maybe Eddie didn't want that.
‘We could,’ Eddie agreed, squeezing your hand.
‘Ok,’ you smiled, relieved.
You both stared into each other’s eyes, happy. Eddie slowly put his hands behind your neck and brought you closer to him.
‘Can I kiss you now?’
‘Yes.’
You put your hands on his arms and closed the gap between you two and kissed him. Eddie’s lips were soft, his tongue pressing against your gently. Kissing Eddie felt like a dream, and you never want to wake up or stop. But you both needed air, so the kissing stopped, both you panting slightly.
You smiled before leaving the car, feeling too warm inside. Eddie followed you behind, putting his arm around your shoulder.
‘I like this,’ he smiled.
‘Me too,’ you put your arm around his waist.
Eddie spent the rest of the day at your place, helping you cook — grabbing ingredients and cleaning them — and then you two put everything in a tupperwares and put them in the freezer.
Tired from cooking all day, you and Eddie both collapse on your couch. Eddie moved over and rested his head on your lap, and wrapped his arms around you.
‘I don’t want you to go,’ Eddie whined, looking up.
‘We’ll call each other, every day, and before you even know it, I’ll be back and we’ll figure something out.’
‘Okay,’ Eddie smiled.
Eddie and you decided it would be better not to tell anyone yet, since this was a rather new thing. Your last day at Hawkins was spent cleaning up the house and making sure there was no food left in the fridge so nothing would spoil, and making sure everything was clean. After eating lunch, you grabbed all the food you froze and put it in your car and drove to Max’s place. You knocked on her door and waited a bit before she opened it.
‘y/n!’ Max smiled, hugging you.
‘Hi!’ you hugged her back.
‘What are you doing here? I thought you were busy today?’
‘I am, I still haven’t packed my things, but I wanted to drop these off,’ you showed her your multiple bags.
‘What is that,’ Max let you in.
‘Food, lots of it. I— you mentioned that your mother couldn’t always cook so I thought I would freeze a lot of it for nights when she wouldn’t be there.’
Ever since her mother married Billy’s father, Max felt alone. With her mother always sticking with her step-father, and her violent step-brother, she had no one. Until she met Dustin and Lucas, and then you soon after.
At first, she thought that you would not care much about her, because she was the new girl, but you did. You were nice, and you cared for her even though you barely knew her. Max had not been that happy for a long time. So when you left, she was devastated, and on top of that, she had to move away with her mother.
‘Thank you,’ Max smiled, touched by your kindness. ‘I’ll put them in the freezer, you can stay here,’ she showed you the couch.
You sat on the couch and looked around. The windows did not have any curtains on them, so you could see the trailer in front of Max’s and the empty streets.
‘Looking out for Eddie to appear?’ Max joked when she sat next to you.
‘What?’ you asked, horrified that she might have, somehow, discovered what happened yesterday. ‘Wh—why would I be waiting for Eddie to appear out of nowhere?’
‘Because he lives just here,’ Max pointed at the trailer in front of her house.
‘What? Really?’ you asked, surprised.
‘Yeah.’
You spent another hour with Max, before she had to leave to meet up with Dustin, Mike and Lucas to hang out together.
‘We’ll come and see you before you leave tomorrow,’ Max warned you before skating away.
Just as you were about to get in your car, you saw a truck pulling in Eddie’s trailer. It was an older man getting out of it, and getting inside. You turned around, watching the pastries you bake that you wanted to drop off at Lucas’, Dustin’s and Mike’s. But maybe you could give some to Eddie. You took all the bags, which included all Eddie’s favourites and walked to his trailer, and knocked.
‘Eddie!’ you heard a man’s voice shouting, ‘get the door!’
‘You get it!’ Eddie shouted back.
After a few moments, the door finally opened up on Eddie, in his typical outfit, with a bandana in his hair. His eyes widened seeing you.
‘Who are you?’ the man you saw earlier appeared behind Eddie.
‘I’m y/n,’ you smiled. ‘Eddie’s girlfriend,’ you added.
‘Girlfriend, huh,’ the man smiled, patting Eddie’s back. ‘Nice. I’ll let you two alone then,’ he walked back and went into a room.
‘Girlfriend?’ Eddie smirked, leaning against the doorframe. ‘I thought we weren’t telling anyone yet?’
‘Well, I wanted to know how it sounded like to say it,’ you smiled. ‘Can I come in? Or are you busy?’ you suddenly realised. ‘I can go, I was just visiting Max and she said you were living here and I thought—-.’
Eddie took the bag in your hands, put his free hand behind your head and kissed you deeply.
‘Come in,’ Eddie took your hand. ‘Sorry it’s a mess, I—,’ he turned to look at you, flushed. ‘I would’ve cleaned if I knew you were coming.’
‘It’s fine!’ you reassured him. ‘It’s nice, it’s very cosy here.’
‘Come,’ Eddie took you down the little hallway.
He opened the door to his bedroom and closed the door behind you.
‘This is my palace,’ Eddie joked.
You looked around, amazed at his bedroom. You went to sit on his bed when he grabbed your hand and yanked you toward him, making you crash onto his chest.
‘You don’t want to sit down,’ Eddie admitted, still holding you.
You both looked at his bed.
‘Those stains are—,’ he tried to explain, ‘I don’t know what those stains are.’
‘Ok,’ you laughed. ‘Is this your guitar?’
‘Yeah, my most precious belonging.’
‘It’s amazing, it looks really great,’ you said. ‘Do you still play with your band?’
‘How do you know about my band?’ Eddie wondered. ‘You mentioned it twice now, the first time being when we first met.’
‘I—,’ you stared at his guitar, avoiding eye contact with Eddie.
Now that Eddie told you that he liked you, it would not be weird to reveal to him that you used to have a crush on him, meaning you went to all his gigs at the local bar back in high school. So you did, you told him everything.
‘Really?’ Eddie smiled.
‘Yes,’ you looked away, cheeks warm. ‘I— you were nice and then the years passed, and you definitely got more handsome and my teenage self was definitely having a crush on you.’
‘I can’t believe you never told me,’ Eddie frowned, holding your hand. ‘I probably would’ve fallen in love with you back then if you did.’
‘I almost did,’ you smiled, ‘it was junior year, I thought you were going to be gone at the end of the year, so I wanted to come and join hellfire club, but then I got nervous and left.’
‘Well, it doesn’t matter anyway because you’re here now,’ Eddie rested his forehead on yours.
‘I am,’ you kissed him.
Even though you were leaving tomorrow, neither of you wanted to talk about it. You spent the rest of the day with Eddie and his uncle, Wayne, and ate the pie and other pastries. When it was finally time for you to go home, Eddie walked back to your car with you.
‘Are you coming to say goodbye tomorrow with the kids?’ you asked him.
‘I’ll be there. Are you sure you don’t want me to come with you?’
‘It’s fine,’ you promised. ‘I’ll… see you tomorrow then?’ you gave him a small smile.
‘See you,’ he whispered.
You woke up early Saturday, around seven and took your suitcase down the stairs. You changed into your clothes, and put the pyjamas away and cleaned up. Around eight, the doorbell rang and the kids and Eddie were all there.
You let them in and you all ate together in silence. No one knew what to say. All the kids were sad to see you go again. Then around nine, it was time for you to go. Eddie put your suitcase in the trunk and stood beside the kids.
‘Well,’ you smiled, ‘I had the best time with you guys around, and I’ll miss you all very much.’
‘I’ll miss you too,’ Max came to hug you.
They all came and wrapped themselves around you.
‘I’ll be back very soon, ok? And I’ll still write to you guys, every week.’
‘We’ll write too,’ Lucas said.
You turned around and faced Eddie. The kids were not far away, but far enough so they could not hear you two.
‘I wish I kissed you more yesterday,’ Eddie smirked, ‘cause now I can’t and I really want to.’
‘Me too,’ you admitted. ‘It’s only five months and then, we’ll be together forever.’
Eddie nodded, and you gave him a brief hug — to avoid raising suspicion — and went into your car. You rolled the window down and waved them goodbye while driving away.
‘See you soon!’ the kids all shouted.

Dustin, Mike, and Lucas were all with Eddie playing DnD tonight. As usual, the campaign ran until late, very late. They all promised their mothers that they would be home early, but in the midst of playing, none of them saw the time pass. The three mothers all decided to impose a curfew after that.
‘But mom!’ Dustin complained, ‘We can’t cut a campaign short!’
‘Dustin, have you seen the time! It’s dark outside, it’s past midnight, and I refuse to have you walk home alone,’ his mother protested.
‘I’m fourteen!’
‘Dustin! That’s enough, Mrs Wheeler and Sinclair and I all decided that you kids have to be home before 9, or you don’t go out at all.’
‘That is so unfair!’ Dustin cried out.
Dustin started to walk away when suddenly he thought of something.
‘What if someone drove us home?’ Dustin turned around.
‘I thought Steve was too busy driving you boys home that late?’ his mother asked.
‘No, I mean yes, but I’m talking about y/n.’
‘She left for college a year ago.’
‘But she’s coming back tomorrow for the holidays, and she’ll stay for a few weeks!’ Dustin told her, ‘I’m sure she won’t mind.’
‘Fine,’ she sighed, ‘and only if she doesn’t mind.’
Dustin, Mike, Lucas, and Will were the group of kids you took care of for the longest time. You always babysat them, and they always had their sleepovers at your place. You help like you could when Will disappeared, and everything that happened with the upside down, but when the chance came to leave that town, you took it.
‘Do you really have to go?’ Max, with whom you got really close to since, asked.
‘Yes,’ you frowned, ‘but I’ll be back here every chance I get, I promise,’ you turned around to face the other kids. ‘And Will, and El could come too and we’ll all hang out together again, ok?’
Every week, you would write each other letters about what was new in their lives, and what they did. And so in your last letter, you told them that for the next holiday, you had over a month of break.
Your parents moved away with you for college, but the house they bought was never sold. So, for a few weeks, you would have this house to yourself. When you got out of the car, you noticed that the living room’s lights were on. You put your suitcase back in the car and took out the kitchen knife you took with you when travelling alone.
You discreetly walked to the front door, and opened it slowly. You walked in, putting your knife up for safety. You walked in the kitchen and saw a tall man standing in front of the stove, heating up some food.
‘Who are you?’ you asked, pointing the knife close to his throat.
‘Oh my god,’ he shivered, ‘I—I’m— I’m—.’
‘y/n you’re back!’ Dustin came into the kitchen. ‘Oh my god, what are you doing!’ Dustin shouted when he noticed the knife.
‘I—,’ you stopped, ‘there’s a stranger in my house!’ you shouted, panicking.
‘That’s Eddie! Not a stranger! Please let him go,’ Dustin begged.
‘Eddie?’ you said looking back and forth. ‘Oh, Eddie,’ you threw the knife on the counter when he finally turned his face around. ‘I’m so sorry,’ you apologised, embarrassed.
‘Nah, it’s good,’ Eddie smiled.
‘Dustin,’ you turned around, still smiling, ‘can I talk to you?’ you grabbed his shirt.
You dragged Dustin back to the living room and pushed him onto the couch.
‘What the hell Dustin!’ you shouted. ‘Why— why? Why is Eddie Munson here? Why are you here?’
‘To welcome you back!’ Dustin smiled.
‘I gave you the keys for emergencies only, Dustin!’
‘That was one.’
But before you could reply, Eddie walked out and told you that food was ready. You gave Dustin a look saying ‘this conversation is not over’, before walking into the kitchen. There were three plates with lasagnas and three glasses of orange juice. You sat in front of Eddie with Dustin on the side, and you all started to eat in silence.
‘This— this tastes good,’ you looked at Eddie. ‘You’re a great cook.’
‘Ha,’ Dustin laughed, ‘Eddie, cooking?’
‘I just put it in the oven,’ Eddie explained, ‘this was frozen lasagna from the market.’
‘Oh, then I can tell the truth and say that, actually, it was not that good,’ you smiled.
‘Uh,’ Eddie faked an offended gasp, ‘are you criticising my frozen food’s taste?’
‘I am,’ you chuckled, ‘this is horrible, why would you even eat that?’
‘It’s cheap and not far away from where I live,’ Eddie explained.
‘Those shouldn’t be your food criterias.’
‘Yet, they are,’ Eddie smirked, still devouring his food.
‘So,’ Dustin interrupted you two, smiling, ‘this is y/n,’ he looked at Eddie, ‘and this is Eddie,’ he looked at you happily. ‘I am so glad you two finally met!’
‘It is a pleasure to finally meet the woman Dustin and the other kids talk about all day long,’ Eddie said.
‘Actually, we’ve met before,’ you confessed.
‘What? When?’ Eddie wondered because he could not remember anything.
‘Well— we were in the same history class last year,' you reminded him, ‘I was sitting in front of you and we did that project together for the finals.’
‘We did?’
‘Yes,’ you nodded, ‘I mean we didn’t actually work together, and we talked once, because mh— you never came to the library to work, but yeah, I— I know you.’
‘Why don’t I remember any of this?’ Eddie wondered horrified.
‘Well,’ you hesitated, ‘I— It was towards the end of the year, and I knew— I could see how busy you were with your club and your band and school so I didn’t want to bother you. I put in the paper with our names and… yeah.’
‘Aw,’ Dustin chimed in.
‘Anyway— Dustin finish your food, it’s getting cold.’
The three of you all finished the lasagnas and your drinks before putting it in the sink. You told them you would wash the dishes, so they could go and do whatever they wanted to. Dustin, Mike, and Lucas all wrote about the Hellfire Club, but Dustin was the only one who talked about Eddie, like, a lot.
You put the clean dishes away and went back to the living room, but no one was there and the lights were off too. You went upstairs and saw that your parent’s room’s door was open and that the lights were on only in that room. You walked up to the room and saw Dustin and Eddie playing a board game on the ground.
‘Hey,’ you sat next to Dustin, ‘is it me or are you guys playing something that isn’t dungeons and dragons?’
‘I like other games too,’ Dustin said, ‘this for example, trivia pursuit, is great. It is also the first one we grabbed in the basement before running back here.’
‘Dustin!’ Eddie shouted, ‘Don’t tell her that!’
‘Scared of my basement?’ you giggled.
‘No,’ Eddie looked away blushing, ‘I was just following that little guy.’
‘Oh, great, because we have to go back there to bring back the mattresses if you want to sleep tonight.’
‘I’m not going back there,’ Dustin said.
‘I need both of you, the mattresses are really big and heavy,’ you frowned.
‘It’s ok,’ Eddie put his cards down, ‘Dustin can stand at the entrance and hold up a light or something while we’re down there.’
‘Hold a light?’ you asked confused. ‘There are lights in the basement,’ you revealed, ‘the switch is just beside the stairs.’
Dustin told you he would wait in the living room, watching TV while Eddie and you would set the room up. Eddie followed you behind, walking down to the basement. The basement was full of old furniture — beds, mattresses, wardrobes, magazines, etc. Every room had been emptied except for yours.
‘Eddie?’ you asked looking up at him, ‘aren’t coming down?’
‘Can you turn the lights on first?’
You smiled before turning the lights on, and turned around to look for the mattresses. But quickly turned around.
‘No, don’t close the door!’ you shouted a little too late.
‘What? Why?’ Eddie panicked.
‘Oh no’, you ran back up the stairs, ‘the door doesn’t open up from inside.’
‘What!’
You stood beside him, not saying anything. Eddie started to bang on the door, shouting for Dustin but it was no use. You sat down on the step and took Eddie’s arm so he would sit too. Minutes went by, and neither of you knew what to say to break the awkward silence.
‘Nice tee-shirt,’ you finally gathered enough courage to talk.
‘Thanks,’ Eddie smiled, ‘I made it myself.’
‘Really?’
‘Well, I designed it, yes.’
‘Well, it’s great.’
Silence again.
‘I’m sorry if I don’t remember you,’ Eddie apologised, playing with his rings.
‘It’s alright, I barely remember anyone from high school too,’ you admitted. ‘I spent so much time with the kids that I barely had any social interactions with anyone my age.’
‘They’re great kids though, Lucas, Mike, Dustin, they’re great kids.’
‘And Will,’ you added, ‘he moved away after the mall fire so that’s why you don’t know him,’ you explained. ‘He loves DnD and I know with everything that happened, he never got to play much and I know he would love you and— actually, if he comes back for the holidays he could come to one of your campaigns right?’
‘Mmh,’ Eddie thought about adding someone else new, ‘sure’.
Eddie never would have accepted it, but seeing you talk about Will so fondly, he could only accept.
‘So,’ Eddie continued, ‘why didn’t you guys sell this gigantic house? I’m sure it would get you a lot of money.’
‘My father agreed to not sell the house yet, because I asked him to. I knew I would have come back for the kids, and—,’ you paused, ‘it’ll sound stupid but this house holds so many good memories and with everything that happened in this stupid town, I just—,’ you sighed, ‘I couldn’t let go of that house even though I chose to leave.’
Eddie nodded and looked at you smiling.
‘What?’ you laughed shyly.
‘Nothing. It’s just— weird to finally meet you, even though we were in the same class.’
‘Finally?’
‘Dustin talks a lot,’ Eddie explained.
‘Ah,’ you smiled, ‘Dustin does talk a lot, I agree. He would not stop talking about you and the hellfire club in his letters. But I am really glad they all found you.’
‘The other students would not agree with that.’
You knew about what the other students would say about Eddie, and his club, Dustin told you about it and you also saw what they used to say when you were still there too.
‘I don’t care about what strangers have to say about you, because I know they’re wrong,’ you began. ‘From what Dustin, and Mike, and Lucas said, you’re an incredible friend and an incredible DnD player, and an even more amazing musician. So yes, I am glad they found you.
‘Actually,’ you continued, ‘when I was still in high school, I really wanted them to know you because you all loved the same game which they've been playing since they were in diapers. But then I thought you would have graduated so that would never have happened.’
‘Didn’t take into account my ability to never take school seriously;’ Eddie laughed. ‘But just so you know, this year,’ he looked at you, ‘this year is mine, and I’ll graduate for real.’
‘Ah, it’ll be a very special occasion then,’ you looked at him too, ‘I’ll have to come.’
But before he could answer, a loud knock appeared from the other side.
‘What are you guys doing?’ Dustin yelled, ‘It’s been over fifteen minutes!’
‘Dustin,’ you stood up, ‘open the door! It’s locked from inside!’
Dustin opened the door, and you told him to keep the door open so Eddie and you could move the mattress up. You had to put it in the living room seeing how heavy it was.
‘I’ll sleep on the couch,’ Eddie told you.
‘Are you sure?’
‘Yeah, your couch is way better than my bed so, it’s all good.’
The first week, you spent the majority of your time with the kids and occasionally, with Steve and Robin tagging along. You would all hang out at the theatres, or at the park or you would drive them to the nearest mall. You would also take Max to your house to have sleepovers with El on the phone.
‘Joyce says we can come next week,’ Eleven told you two on the phone that night.
‘Oh that’s great!’ you beamed, ‘We’ll have so much fun together.’
You agreed with Joyce that she, Jonathan, Will and El could all stay at your house. The house was big, it had enough space and spare rooms and everything. The day they arrived, all the other kids and Nancy were there to greet them. El immediately went to hug Max, with Mike close by. Jonathan went to Nancy and you went to Will and took him in your arms.
‘I missed so much!’ you said. ‘Look at you, you got even taller!’
‘I missed you too,’ Will smiled.
You greeted Joyce and then took them all in the house to show them their rooms.
‘When did you have time to assemble all the beds and the mattresses?’ Dustin asked you in front of everyone.
‘Um,’ you hesitated, ‘you know, I had a lot of free time so— yeah.’
‘Uh,’ Dustin looked at you suspiciously.
‘Anyway,’ you looked at the others, ‘I made food, you must all be so hungry right?’
You pushed them all towards the kitchen and took out the lasagnas out of the oven. You made two big plates of homemade lasagnas — which you made in the afternoon — and put them on the table and with Joyce’s help, you served everyone before starting to eat. At the end of the meal, there were still some leftovers which you started to put away.
‘Oh, y/n,’ Dustin took the plate from your hand, ‘no need to put them away, I’ll bring it for my mom.’
‘What?’ you still held onto the plate.
‘Yeah there’s only one portion left,’ Dustin pulled the plate.
‘Yeah, but—,’ you refused to let it go.
‘What are you doing?’ Dustin finally let it go. ‘It won’t be good tomorrow. So let me take care of it.’
‘I— I’ll take care of it, don’t worry.’
Dustin stared at you suspiciously, not walking away. He put his hands on his hips and looked at you, waiting for you to explain.
‘Guys, let’s go,’ Nancy shouted at the front door.
You pushed Dustin toward the door, no without any difficulty.
‘Don’t make Nancy go home late Dustin.’
‘I’ll find out why you’re being so weird about all this,’ Dustin gestured at the house.
Nancy, Mike, Lucas, Max and Dustin all left after saying goodbye, not before organising another trip tomorrow. Jonathan and Will shared the guest room, while El shared a room with you. Joyce was alone in your parent’s room.
Everyone went to bed early because of all the time they spent in the car, and playing outside. You gave El a toothbrush and after washing up, she fell asleep rather quickly. You looked at the clock on the wall, and saw it was almost 8pm.
You slowly got out of bed, putting the blanket over El’s body and opened your wardrobe to take out a pair of jeans and a tee-shirt. You changed your clothes and went to the kitchen. You put the lasagnas in a tupperware, then put it in your bag. You took your keys, put on your shoes and opened the front door.
‘Where are you going?’ you heard El’s sleepy voice.
‘Nowhere,’ you gasped, closing the door again. ‘Why aren’t you sleeping?’
‘You left,’ El came closer.
‘I— I’ll be right back,’ you gently pushed her back to the stairs, ‘I just needed some fresh air.’
‘Ok,’ El went back to bed half asleep.
You took your bag and left the house. Waiting in front of the house was none other than Eddie Munson. He was leaning against the tree trunk, crouching. You smiled before jogging to him.
‘Hey,’ you crouched down in front of him.
‘You’re late,’ Eddie stood up, reaching out his hand.
‘Sorry,’ you took his hand and he pulled you up. ‘I tried to rush everyone home earlier, but they were all very excited to see each other. And then I had to fight with Dustin for this,’ you pulled your bag up.
‘Ah,’ Eddie smiled, ‘the famous homemade lasagnas.’
‘Yes,’ you nodded eagerly. ‘You could come in if you want. Or we could still go to your place. Wait, did you walk here?’
‘I did walk here, and I can eat here,’ he took the bag from you.
‘Wait,’ you took your car keys out from the bag. ‘We’ll eat in my car.’
You grabbed Eddie's arm and pulled him toward your car. You opened the back door and pushed him inside before going in after him.
‘There’s a fork in the bag,’ you told him.
From the backseat, you put the keys in difficulty, but successfully so you could put the heater and the lights on. When you sat back down, you noticed how red Eddie’s face was.
‘Are you ok?’ you worried, ‘Do you need me to open a window?’
‘No, no,’ Eddie choked. ‘Sorry,’ he mumbled before quickly opening the tupperware.
He took the fork, and dug in the food with huge bites. His eyes widened and looked at you smiling, still chewing, and nodding vigorously. He did not say anything, he just happily ate his food. Eddie had not eaten anything homemade for a long time, with his uncle always buying food instead of doing it himself, and eating garbage at school.
‘It was a mistake eating this,’ Eddie finally said when he finished the lasagnas.
‘What?’ you worried. ‘I thought you liked it?’
‘It was perfect,’ he grabbed the napkin to wipe his mouth, ‘and now I won’t be able to eat anything else.’
‘Oh,’ you felt your cheeks heat up, ‘I— I mean I would happily make you food every day! I love cooking so it won’t be a problem.’
‘Until you leave again?’ Eddie rested his head against the backrest, putting his left leg on the seat so he could look at you.
‘I still have three weeks here.’
‘You really shouldn’t get me used to this.’
‘No, I will,’ you decided, ‘what else do you like? I can also bake, so just ask.’
‘Mmh, I like lemon meringue pie,’ Eddie admitted.
‘I can do that. What else do you like?’
‘I like butterscotch oatmeal cookies.’
‘Do you have anything in mind that isn’t sweet?’ you wondered.
‘I don’t know,’ Eddie was deep in thought, ‘I usually eat pizza with my uncle.’
‘That’s fine, I’ll just make whatever I know and you’ll tell me if you like it or not.’
‘I’m sure I will love everything you make,’ he smiled.
After officially meeting Eddie, you asked for his number so you could organise something with Will and the others. And that first week, you and Eddie called each other a few times though you never saw each other. Once to tell him when Will would arrive, and a second time to ask him for help to put the beds together.
It turned out, spending time with Eddie was really fun. When you first arrived in high school, Eddie was a sophomore. And when you became a senior, he was still there. And of course, you noticed him. He was loud, and proud and charismatic. You thought about approaching him with DnD knowledge – knowledge you stole from the kids – but always backed off at the last minute because of how nervous you were.
An hour after, you both jumped when you heard a knock on the window. You opened the door and saw Eleven standing in her pyjamas, arms crossed.
‘El!’ you pulled her inside the car. ‘It’s freezing outside, what are you doing?’
‘You didn’t come back,’ she simply explained.
‘Right,’ you turned to Eddie.
‘I’ll go home,’ he opened the car door.
‘Wait, I can drive you home if you need.’
‘It’s ok,’ Eddie reassured you, ‘plus, it seems like your friend here is about to fall asleep soon.’
‘Ok, I’ll call you tomorrow? So we can do something with the others.’
‘Sure,’ Eddie smiled before walking away.
You took El with you and walked back to bed. You change back into your pyjamas and fall asleep pretty quickly.
The next day, you were the first one to wake up so you decided to make breakfast. That morning would be eggs, bacon, toats, fruits and pancakes. You were taking every ingredient out when Will walked in the kitchen.
‘Morning!’ you smiled.
‘Hey,’ Will walked to you to help you bring the food to the counter. ‘What are you making?’
‘Scrambled eggs, with some bacon, with toast on the side. Then I’ll cut some fruit and finally make some pancakes.’
‘Do you need help?’
‘Oh, no it’s fine, you can go back to sleep or watch TV.’
‘I want to help,’ Will insisted.
‘Okay, then you can wash the fruits and cut them while I cook the eggs and bacon,’ you gave him the fruits, ‘then we’ll make the pancakes together. Oh and you can put the toasts in the toaster.’
Will nodded and started his work while you did yours. You also turn on the radio for some music while making breakfast. You glanced at Will, watching him wash and cut the fruits in silence.
‘Are you ok?’ you asked him.
‘I— I’m great, why?’
‘You seem quiet since you arrived here, is something wrong?’
‘No, it’s just been a while,’ Will said, ‘since I came here.’
‘Ok,’ you put the eggs on a plate and the bacon in the oven. ‘So, you know the others — Mike, Lucas, and Dustin — have joined the hellfire club since they arrived in high school, right?’
‘Yeah,’ Will nodded, ‘you talked about it in one of your letters.’
‘So, it’s a DnD club, and Eddie Munson’s the one who created it, the leader of that club,’ you explained. ‘And they play DnD at school, and everything — it seems really great.’
‘It does,’ he agreed, ‘I wish I could play DnD at school… It’s been ages since I played.’
‘I know!’ you continued to watch the bacon so it wouldn’t burn. ‘So, I talked to Eddie, and he agreed to let you join them to play,’ you smiled.
‘Really?’ Will smiled back.
‘Yes! I knew with everything that happened, you haven’t played in ages so I thought it would be fun for you to meet Eddie and play DnD with them all.’
‘Are you sure he won’t mind?’
‘Yes, a hundred percent sure. I’ll let you know when he’ll be ready ok?’ you reassured him. ‘Don’t worry too much about it.’
Right after you finished making breakfast together, the others came down to eat with you. Once again, there were plenty of leftovers once you finished.
‘I’ll just pack it up for later,’ you told Joyce. ‘Go rest, I’ll take care of it.’
‘What would I do without you,’ Joyce smiled.
She kissed your cheek and left with Jonathan for a walk. El and Will were both watching TV when the doorbell rang. You ran to the door and opened it expecting to see Dustin, but in front of you was Eddie Munson.
‘Eddie!’ you smiled. ‘Wha—What are you doing here?’
‘You said you’d call today, but I couldn’t wait to—,’ Eddie stopped, ‘couldn’t wait to eat more of your food.’
‘Oh,’ you laughed a little, feeling embarrassed to have thought that he would say that he could not wait to see you. ‘Well lucky for you, there’s still some breakfast left. Come in!’
You grabbed his hand and pulled him inside, and rapidly walked to the kitchen where the food was still on the table. You sat next to him and gave him a fork.
‘Who’s that?’ El asked, walking in with Will.
Eddie turned around, mouth full of food.
‘Will, El,’ you turned around, smiling, ‘this is Eddie Munson, Eddie,’ you turned back to him, ‘this is El, short for Eleven and this is Will, remember?’
Eddie nodeed, still eating.
‘Say ‘hello’, kids,’ you told them.
‘Hello,’ El and Will mumbled walking toward you.
Eddie kept eating in silence, not looking at anyone. Will and El stood beside you, staring at Eddie eating.
‘When is Mike coming here?’ El asked you.
‘Soon I think, they’re probably finishing breakfast too,’ you told her, ‘but you can call him if you want, there’s a phone in my bedroom.’
El nodded and left, leaving Will with Eddie and you.
‘So, you’re the famous Will huh,’ Eddie smiled at him, sensing his discomfort. ‘I heard you’re quite good at DnD.’
‘I—,’ Will blushed.
‘He is really great,’ you said. ‘Will’s character is a wizard, and they all call him Will the Wise,’ you told Eddie. ‘Eddie is the dungeon master, he is great at it,’ you explained to Will, ‘I mean from what I heard.’
‘A wizard huh,’ Eddie said, impressed. ‘Well, I can’t wait to see you at my next campaign.’
‘Thank you,’ Will smiled, ‘for allowing me to come.’
For two whole weeks, Eddie came to your house every morning and ate breakfast with you, and just you because he would always wait for everyone else to go before coming to you. Will also experienced his first DnD campaign with Eddie and the hellfire club, to which you decided to tag along.
‘Eddie doesn’t allow strangers for the campaign,’ one of Eddie’s friends stopped you from entering the school’s theatre room.
The high school director obviously refused to give them the school keys, so you all carefully broke in.
‘Gareth,’ Eddie grabbed him by the neck, ‘move away.’
Eddie pushed Gareth away, and stood beside you, smiling.
‘Welcome back to hell,’ Eddie showed you around, ‘but I’m afraid you can’t come in like that,’ he frowned.
‘Like what?’ you frowned back at him.
‘You have to wear this,’ he grabbed a shirt from his back pocket and showed you a hellfire club shirt, just like his.
‘Oh my gosh!’ you shouted happily. ‘Eddie, I love this!’ you took the shirt.
‘I made you this when I was making Will’s, I hope you like it. I know you don’t play, but I thought you’d like to— you said it was great!’
‘It is! I love it Eddie, thank you,’ you hugged him tightly.
Eddie, smiling like an idiot, wrapped his arms around you too, but quickly backed away when he saw Dustin beside him, smirking.
‘What is going on?’ Dustin asked.
‘Nothing,’ you and Eddie said at the same time.
‘Come,’ Eddie put his hand on Dustin’s shoulder to bring him with him.
They played for a long time, and Will was having so much fun you wish the campaign never ended. At the end of the campaign, Will ran to you, with the biggest smile on his face and hugged you.
‘Thank you for bringing me here, it was awesome!’ Will thanked you.
‘Anything for you,’ you hugged him back.
Eddie’s friends all left, leaving the kids with you and Eddie. They were all helping Eddie cleaning the room up before you all left the school.
‘Do you need a ride home?’ you asked Eddie.
‘Oh, no it’s fine,’ Eddie smiled back at you.
‘Are you sure?’
‘Yes.’
‘Well,’ you did not want to leave Eddie that early yet, ‘call me when you get home, so I know you got home safely.’
‘I will,’ Eddie smiled, heart warm.
Eddie walked away, waving goodbye to you and the kids. You turned to them and saw the four of them fighting for the front seat. Will won, leaving Mike, Lucas and Dustin behind, with Dustin in the middle.
‘So,’ Dustin started the conversation. ‘Do you like Eddie?’
‘Of course I like Eddie, he’s a great friend,’ you replied.
‘I was talking to Will,’ Dustin laughed.
‘Ah.’
‘He’s great,’ Will said, quickly bringing the attention back to him. ‘I wish I could stay here with you guys forever.’
‘Yeah, it would be so much fun with all of us again together, playing DnD,’ Dustin agreed, a little sad.
No one talked after that.
‘Well, Eddie’s always going to welcome you to play with them,’ you tried to comfort them. ‘He loves you all and he—.’
‘Talking about Eddie,’ Lucas smiled, ‘I saw him giving you a hellfire shirt.’
‘Right!’ Mike smiled. ‘So are you guys a thing now? El told me he was visiting you every morning!’
‘What!’ Dustin gasped.
‘I—,’ you tried to explain.
‘Wait,’ Lucas cut you, ‘is Eddie Munson your boyfriend? Is that why he gave you a hellfire shirt even though you’re not playing DnD?’
‘I—.’
‘y/n y/l/n,’ Dustin said, ‘how could you hide this from me?’
‘How did we not notice sooner?’ Mike asked, ‘He’s always at her house, y/n always cooks for him, and we all know cooking is a sign of love.’
‘What?’
‘Please don’t kiss in front of—.’ Dustin started to say.
‘Stop!’ you yelled, stopping the car. ‘I am not dating Eddie Munson, I mean—,’ you thought about Eddie. ‘He is great, and very nice and funny and considerate. He is passionate about the things he likes, and he doesn’t hide that from anyone. And he loves you guys,’ you kept talking. ‘But no,’ you came back to your senses, ‘we’re not dating,’ you started the car back.
‘But do you like him?’ Will asked shyly after a few minutes.
‘I—,’ your thoughts went back to Eddie, ‘he’s a great friend, and…’
‘y/n,’ Dustin called your name carefully, ‘do you… love him?’
‘What! No, I— I— I like Eddie, he’s a great friend,’ you repeated, ‘and I—.’
The first time you saw Eddie in high school, you thought he was beautiful. The truth was that Eddie and you met more than once. It was your freshman year and you were quite lost and late too. You were running everywhere, trying to find your classroom, on the verge of tears. You hated being late, and being late meant bringing more attention to you.
You were still running everywhere, when you stumbled upon Eddie. He was putting away books in his locker when he looked at you.
‘Are you alright?’ Eddie looked worried.
‘I— I’m lost,’ you whimpered.
And he helped you. He walked with you to your class, making him extra late for his, but he did not mind, continuing to reassure you that he would be fine. That was all fifteen-year-old you needed to start to have a crush on that mystery man.
For four years, you tried to talk to Eddie, but without knowing him, he seemed intimidating so you never did. And you were shy, with very few to no friends, only classmates with whom you talked about homework. Then when you learnt Eddie’s club was about Dungeons and Dragons, you thought you could knock on his door and ask to be part of it and just ask Will, Dustin, Lucas and Mike to teach you how to play.
You were in front of the theatre room, the first day of your junior year, ready to talk to Eddie again but at the last minute, you ran away, too scared. At the end of the year, you were devastated, knowing that next year, Eddie would leave. But then, the first day, for your first period, you saw Eddie Munson sitting in your history class.
That was destiny giving you a chance to finally talk to him. But as you walked toward the empty seat next to him, his friend beat you to it, and the only place available was the one in front of him. Then the next time you talked to Eddie was for that history project. When the teacher called your two names, you were beyond happy.
At the end of the class, you turned around to finally face Eddie for the first time since four years.
‘Hi,’ you waved at him. ‘I’m y/n.’
‘Eddie,’ he smiled.
‘I— for the project, we could meet after school at the school library? And talk more once there?’ you suggested.
‘Ok, I’ll be there.’
He was not there. You waited an hour before deciding that Eddie was not coming. You put your books in your bag and left. On your way out, you noticed Eddie with Mr Martin, a science teacher.
‘Mr. Munson, this paper is pure garbage,’ Mr Martin yelled, throwing the paper back at Eddie. ‘You were in my class twice, and you failed this class twice! How is this possible! Every teacher agrees with me.’
Mr Martin was not known to be kind toward his students. Watching him yell at Eddie was horrifying. The only thing you could do was walk away, and give Eddie some slack by doing the work alone.
Then, after you graduated, you thought it was your chance to forget about Eddie, and Hawkins and the upside down. But that did not happen because you still family in Hawkins, and that family — Mike, Lucas, and Dustin — kept talking about Eddie Munson and hellfire club. Just as you were starting to forget about Eddie a bit, Dustin started to talk about him again, and everything you knew and loved about him started to come back to you.
And your crush intensified while reading your kids’ letters. It was like falling in love with a fictional character from one of your novels. The more you read about Eddie, the more you started to appreciate him. You felt like you knew him.
Then these past few weeks, you really met with Eddie and actually talked to him. And you spent a lot of time together, and it turned your silly crush into something more. You did not have a crush on Eddie, you liked him a lot.
‘y/n?’ Dustin called your name again, worried.
‘Mmh?’ you turned around to face him.
‘The door is still locked, and we’ve been here for over fifteen minutes.’
‘Oh,’ you looked around, ‘right.’
You unlocked the door, and the four kids ran to the house to find Max and El, and Jonathan and Joyce. Joyce had made dinner and they were all only waiting for you to come back. You told her that you would eat later because you were too tired to eat.
‘What did you do?’ Joyce turned around to face the boys.
‘Nothing!’ they all shouted.
All you could think about was Eddie, and his long hair and brown eyes, and dashing smile. But you knew, just like before, that nothing could happen because you were leaving soon. Telling him would only complicate things.
‘y/n?’ Max knocked on the door. ‘Pick up your phone, Eddie is calling.’
