It is an interesting experience to work on two related series in parallel - traditional geometric drawings on paper versus digital images created with JavaScript code based on threejs. Both feature an ellipsoid intersecting a sphere, related to the physics of the gyroscpe:
Currently working on the latter: I am moving my virtual camera manually to find an interesting viewpoint (Shown in the animated gif). The actual artworks - to be printed - will be high-resolution still images. I am still playing with all the parameters: The shape of the ellipsoid, the colors, the density of points and randomization of colors.
BTW, first ever gif I created :-)

Poinsot's Paper Spaceship #1 - UFO
An oblate ellipsoid intersects a sphere.
Visualized using the traditional techniques of descriptive geometry, showing all three straight-on views.
Physics background: Poinsot's geometric theory of the gyroscope.
Watercolor pencils.

Canvas print of my artwork "Circles to Circles 2"
Printed by @meisterdrucke
I really love the subtle texture and colors of this matte EPSON canvas!
Link to the artwork and digital image for comparison - available at Meisterdrucke (specializing in reproductions of old masters' paintings)!
They suggest the satin canvas as a default, but I would highly recommend the matte one they call "Raphael"

Poinsot's Paper Spaceship #3 - work in progress
This is now a tiny spaceship - like a small shuttle!
On the other hand, I cannot unsee a bumblebee!
The series is actually about the intersection of an ellipsoid and a sphere - I like how the intersection curve turned out in the "3D" view here!

Poinsot's Paper Spaceship
Work in progress!
The first two (of four) drawings in my new series: Intersection of ellipsoid and sphere, an an orthographic projection!
A tribute to French mathematician Louis Poinsot whose legacy is a geometric theory of the motion of rigid bodies.

New series started:
Poinsot's Paper Spaceship!
On my mission to make Descriptive Geometry cool again! New series, early stage: Ellipsoid intersecting a sphere. I have not even added the intersection line or the 3D axonometric view - and things are already getting crowded :-)

The Geometry of Thermodynamics
Quote from carnotcycle.wordpress.com - an expert's blog about thermodynamics:
"Gibbs propels the visual argument further by pointing out that analytical formulae are strictly unnecessary for comprehending relationships between thermodynamic state variables, since they can just as easily be understood by applying graphical methods."

elkement exhibition in the kitchen
While I am awaiting the deliveries of several canvas prints by different printing services… I need to use my space better!
Finally hanging my prints "more properly"! This is the kitchen wall, so I need prints I will be able to wipe properly in the future.
I am selecting metal prints, and interestingly they seem to go together - despite different techniques (Code, digital drawing, drawing on paper)
All except the phone are available on INPRNT: https://www.inprnt.com/gallery/elkement/
The phone was the first thing I have drawn in decades, it is more of a personal artwork (But I could upload it as well if anybody is interested!)

Circles to Circles 5
Number 5 of 6 in my series about stereographic projection!
This one was the hardest to construct and to color!
The thing I depict is stereographic proojection, but I am using orthographic projection to display it!
Graphite pencil construction, watercolor pencils, A5 watercolor paper.

Number 4 of 6 in my series of drawings about stereographic projection:
Circles to Circles 4 Watercolor pencils on A5-sized watercolor paper.
2/3 of the series in done! Six small watercolor pencil drawings, showing a circle on a sphere being stereographically projected to a circle in the equatorial plane. Six different circles, six different viewpoints. Technically, this is "orthographic projection of stereographic projection"
In other news, I am happy to announce that my artworks - including this one - are now also available on the awesome platform @meisterdrucke - an Austrian manufactory of high-quality fine art prints. They specialize in prints of artworks b the old masters and shipping then worldwide. I am delighted they accepted my artworks!

Circles to Circles #2
Next one in my series about stereographic projection! Circles are projected onto circles!
Traditional geometric construction (So technically this is "orthographic projection of stereographic projection" :-) ), watercolor pencils,
Number 2 in a series of 6 - four more to go!
Small paper: 5.8in x 8.3in, but I am preparing 1200dpi scans - to be able to print it to large dimensions! Stay tuned for prints!

Science and art enthusiasts of tumblr, I am proud to present my latest series of analog math art Circles of Circles is complete, and this is
Circles of Circles #1
Stereographic projection of circles onto circles, number 1 in a series of six.
All points on the red circle on the surface of the sphere are connected to the North Pole, forming an elliptical cone as the circle is not parallel to the cone's base. This cone intersects the equatorial plane in a circle again (violet).
Traditional graphite pencil construction (axonometry) with ruler and compass, watercolor pencils on A5 watercolor paper. I've re-traced all the lines with graphite pencil - freehand to make them a tiny bit wobbly and irregular and thus more similar to soldering of stained glass.
The series is finally ready! This is a 1200dpi scan of the small original - I am looking forward to releasing prints of the whole series!

I am still thinking about the magic of gyroscopes today!
Why does it not fall? Can a free spinning top precess?
New blog post, featuring my geometric drawing of Poinsot's cones! I have created versions for an oblate and a prolate gyroscope, using different drawing surfaces and pens!

Poinsot's Dancing Cones ... and prints thereof!
I've posted several work-in-progress photos of "Poinsot's Dancing Cones". Here is finally the print-ready version! The original is a watercolor pencils + watercolor markers painting on gessoed canvas board.
This is my interpretation of Poinsot's construction of the cones that help visualize the motion of a "fat" gyroscope not subject to an external force. The red cone symbolized the symmetry and shape of the rotating object. This cone embraces the blue cone, rolling along its surface while its symmetry axis moves over the surface of the yellow cone.
When I drew it, I was drawing on (:-)) my beloved German 1960s physics textbooks! The moving red/violet cone is the "Gangpolkegel", the fixed blue one is the "Rastpolkegel", and the yellow one the "Nutationskegel" (As there is no external force, there is no precession caused by a torque.
