Paint Things: Of Paintings and Painful Things
Although countless of storms have gone by, it has proven it’s might for standing tall and housing some of the most prized art pieces, creations, and installations in the Philippines. Vargas Museum, named after Jorge B. Vargas, is located inside the campus of the University of the Philippines- Diliman Campus. Home to famous art works done by some of the most respected icons such as Juan Luna, the museum is currently undergoing renovation to improve its facilities.
Likewise, the museum houses exhibits to showcase the talent and work of various artists such as Renz Baluyot. Renz Baluyot’s exhibit entitled “By Sword and Fire” included a wide variety of art types- ranging from paintings to complex installations- all the while sharing a common story on the Filipino-Japanese relationship built during the second world war.
Rust-stained pieces which showcase how unconventional art can really be as it knows no limits as to what there is, painting that reflect some or the scenes which can only come to life during the Second World War, and much more. All of them symbolized how painful living during the war could be and how it can be relieved through viewing such delicately-made figures.
How fascinating was it? It was beyond imaginable. The thought of creating something so majestic from something so painful and heart-aching has got to be one of the purest talents one could ever possess, and the artist, Renz Baluyot, is one of them. Of paintings and painful things. It was not just the story that became fascinating- it was also the coherence of the pieces that was enthralling.
In conclusion, the pains of yesterday is important in order to move forward since it portrays the mistakes which we should avoid; hence, this may be the underlying reason as to why some artists still opt to relay such message in their work. Likewise, By Sword and Fire was not exhibited for people to appreciate the are solely but for people to appreciate the meaning of it as well.
