Babe who was self conscious and had social anxiety, and was kind of insecure about their appearance and felt like they were never doing enough - ever. That Babe was the one who had a meltdown in an elevator - that’s the one who met Asher. The Babe who had sticky notes in their pockets with “it’s going to be okay” written on them so they could have something real to grasp onto when things got rough. Babe who was an only child, Babe who never had any best friends in school, Babe who was brushed off because there just wasn’t anything special about them. Nothing notable, nothing to point out, they would blend into a crowd of blurred faces and nothing would be different. Babe who wishes they could just be someone else for once. That’s who met Asher in that elevator.

Asher who was just a scrawny kid on the inside. A newly titled beta who had to face the scrutinies of people who he’d never talked to before in his pack. He had to listen to people who he’d known since he was a child talk about him behind his back. His best friend’s Dad died, and in the time of his mourning, Ash had to hear all of the malice and heartbreak of his pack turned onto him; concealed in passive aggressive remarks, excused by grief. ‘Give them time, they just need time, then they’ll see’. Asher who was just that guy. The guy you go to for a laugh, the guy who doesn’t take life too seriously, ‘Asher Talbot’ - the class clown, the fun kid, the one with the interesting birthmark, a best friend, a smile - not beta. Not responsible. Not someone you’d run to in an emergency. Asher Talbot, desperately trying to hold onto his own identity, torn between the old and the new. A smile concealing concern. That’s who Babe met in that elevator.

guys isn’t it so wild and crazy that baabe and asher + angel and david will never be able to bridge with each other lol.

it’s so intimate, and is treated with such love and care, meant to be shared with the closest of people.

and it’s something they can’t experience.

that would eat me up inside, you know? The bitter feeling of not being able to fully experience something so intimate because we’re different. And no matter how much they reassure me that they love me, that I’m enough for them, the feeling never completely goes away.

When they’re playfighting, Asher likes to completely smush himself onto Baaabe, leaning his body weight on them. He’ll always do this when they have tickle fights, playfully pushing them onto the bed and then just lying on top of them, arms wrapped around their waist, immobilising their arms so that they couldn’t tickle him anymore.

They’ll stay like this for a few moments as they catch their breath, and soon after Asher will lean up, propping himself up on his elbows. Baaabe wraps their arms around his neck, keeping him on top of them.

He loves watching Baaabe’s smile light up their face as they giggle, hand reaching up to tuck a strand of hair behind his ear. He’ll lean down and place his forehead against theirs, nuzzling his nose against theirs and peppering soft kisses all over their face.

This usually ends in them relaxing on the bed and cuddling, Baaabe dozing off while listening to Asher’s rhythmic heartbeat, and Asher running his hand up and down their back, enjoying the way they’d nuzzle further into his chest with a peaceful smile.

It’s these quiet intimate moments that Asher loves the most, where he gets to show Baaabe a part of him that only they get to know.

the “boring” listener, babe, who has a criminal history

babe who grew up rough, maybe a drug dealer or street racing for cash to put themself through college

babe who purposefully dulls themselves because they never want to go back to being the person they used to be

babe who relishes how much asher and the pack want to protect them from the dangers of the empowered world because, for once, they aren’t seen as the danger in any given room

maybe babe who has to protect a pack member at some point; babe who has to put a bullet through quinn to get him to run away

babe who teaches angel how to handle a pistol. just in case

babe who learns that they are more than their past and can take and learn from it rather than pretend it didn’t happen
