imo even if you LOATHE Severus Snape (or whoever) it will still make your writing better to attempt to grasp his motivations and empathise with him on some level. Like even if you dislike him it will just make for a better story if all your characters even the baddies are well rounded and complex and not just evil 2D caricatures

my latest toxic jily fic idea is lily needing access to an account of james' and the password hint is 'best sex i've ever had' and she guesses 'sirius' to amuse herself and also as a minor vent because james has gone to help sirius with a minor task while lily's juggling a big thing or something and it's right and she's like........oh i didn't even know that HAPPENED and tries to work out if it was like a youthful one off or if it's been going on forever without her even knowing

I’m not that much of a shipper but lately I’ve been getting more into it so:

1. James/Sirius, forever and always, literally can't get enough of this dynamic.

2. Lily/Regulus - this is all about the POTENTIAL and, crucially, regulus in it is always like a version of regulus not even as he was when he died but who he could have become in the best case scenario after defecting, and also just bc I like them individually and they go really well alongside james/sirius and it also gives me the platonic james&lily and bro sirius/regulus that is another layer of itch scratched.

3. James/Orion - I'm on the train, sorry, I think James needs to be embarrassed and humbled by having a crush on his best friend's supremacist dad while trying to hide it from his best friend who he has more of a crush on but he can't HELP IT. or just imagine james AND sirius both having awkward crushes on each other's dads before realising it's because they really fancy each other.

First ship: I think it was probably Jily??? I remember being 9 and reading SWM and thinking Lily was sooooo cool and that's how I got into MWPP. otherwise like kat and alfie from eastenders probably lmao

Three ships (I don't really do romantic or sexual ships so these are all platonic)

- Snucius

I find the character dynamic between these two interesting. They're the most slytherin duo. I love imagining tiny first year Severus looking up to Lucius, and Lucius teaching him pureblood etiquette and politics and all that, and just being a big brother.

- Snarcissa

I can imagine these two sitting around drinking tea and gossiping. And sharing stories about hilarious things Draco has done whike he's eavesdropping from behind the door, completely embarassed. I think they would also bond with Narcissa over dealing with Lucius' antics.

- Severitus

This is the ship for Severus as Harry's father figure. I've read hundreds of these fics and I love it. Found family is my favourite fanfic trope. Both of them have major issues and it's great to imagine them both working through their shit together. Severus learning to love again, and Harry learning to trust an adult and be a kid. If you ever want a Severitus fic rec, I'm your person, I've read most of the major completed fics, and I've explored heaps of variations of Severitus.

First Ship:

Snily. I don't ship it anymore because I think Severus deserved better, and it probably wouldn't have been a very healthy relationship. But it still has a place in my heart because it was what got me into the Snapedom in the first place.

Last song:

Little Lion Man by Mumford and Sons. They're one of my favourite bands, amd I love this song because Angry Banjo is a genre of music I never knew I needed.

Last Movie:

Black Swan. I love the theme of perfectionism in the movie, it's so interesting to analyse, the cinematography is brilliant, and I love the soundtrack.

Currently Reading:

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. I've just started reading about Stoicism, and it's a really interesting philosophy. I love the way it applies to the real world, and the book is great because it's nice to think about how a Roman Emperor from 2000 years ago had to convince himself to get out of bed in the morning, just like I do.

Currently Watching:

I'm not watching anything right now, but I've been meaning to watch The Terror. It's about a couple of ships that disappeared in the arctic, and all that was found was the remains of diseased and partially eaten bodies.

Currently Drinking:

Water. It's summer here in Australia, so I'm trying to drink a lot of water so I don't get heatstroke while I'm out doing stuff.

Currently Craving:

A break from the humidity, I can't go outside for three minutes without sweating.

“not shipping remus/sirius feels homophobic” you know what else feels homophobic? giving a feminine sirius traits like ‘hysterical’ and ‘drama queen’ and ‘slut’, and then shipping them with a masculine, calm, and logical remus. why are you applying misogynistic heteronormative roles to your mlm ship and calling not shipping them homophobic. it’s really giving the “so who wears the pants in the relationship” kind of homophobia we should’ve left behind years ago

I was wondering if you have any thoughts on Sirius's guilt over James's death? It's something we see in the shrieking shack scene in PoA but doesnt really get revisited, unless I've missed it.

i think sirius' guilt surrounding james' death is something he will just never get rid of and it's something he's committed to living with. i don't think it's something he discusses much, but i think when people tell him it's not his fault, logically he knows he couldn't have foreseen it but i think part of him, considering the bond he and james had, would think "i should have known" or "i owed him more"

sirius is still very clearly cut up about james' death as we see in gof, but he clearly loves talking about james still and it's not like he can't even think about him. it's something he's lived with for 13 years and it will always be part of him and i think it plays a part in his relationship with harry

but essentially yeah i don't think i really have any new thoughts on sirius' guilt, tbh!

notes:

liverpool, man city and man united are not options bc i think james (a southerner) has like someeee lowkey gloryhunting qualities as a football fan but not ENOUGH for him to be a fan of a team in the north, a part of england he has never set foot in (or at least hadn't aged like 5 when he got into football)

james has strong "support my dad's team" and "supports an 'underdog' that is actually a pretty solid/successful team" vibes

therefore london teams are acceptable for a kid from the west country, close enough for him to claim a loose connection through spending a lot of time there as a kid/it being his dad's team

james has "underdog but not a real underdog" supporter qualities

an important aspect of this (for me, a james/sirius and sirius®ulus obsessive) to consider is that regulus also supports a london team, but not the same london team as james, so the team that regulus supports has a bearing on the team james supports
