⚠️ TADC EPISODE 5 SPOILERS. ⚠️

I feel like the only person who didn't feel bad for Ragatha at all in episode 5.

To make things clear, I loved Ragatha, she was one of my faves. I thought she was pretty, and fun, and cute.

But after that jab she made at Jax having no friends while he was trying to be vulnerable, it soured my mood on her completely, and now I feel nothing towards her nor what she's going through.

Ragatha embodies a type of person I despise, people who continue to try and hurt you even when you're trying to be better. I was very similar to Jax in the past, and the idea someone will still want me to suffer even after I've put so much effort into growing and changing is terrifying.

It's like she's not even allowing him to make the attempt to reach out and make a friend, she hates him too much to let that happen.

At this point she's choosing this, she's choosing to let her hatred of Jax get in the way of her befriending Pomni. It's very clear Pomni is uncomfortable with Ragatha trying to pull her away from Jax, whilst Jax never tried to do the same to her, and it's why Pomni ended up going to hang out with him in the end. She hates being controlled.

And that's what Ragatha and Caine are trying to do to her.

I have my own reasons to believe that Ragatha is a huge part of the reason everyone avoids Jax, and Jax ended up doubling down on his position and making everything worse for himself. Which I understand, he's lashing out defensively, but Ragatha is being the aggressor, similar to how Caine is being because he's so convinced HIS adventures are better than anything the cast wants.

It's all about what she wants. SHE doesn't want Pomni to befriend Jax because "he's bad for her", SHE doesn't want people to like Jax, SHE wanted to be the leader in the fast food adventure ("Why are you even the boss anyway? I feel like I'm way more responsible than you.")

Also, it's worth pointing out that Gangle has never actually bad mouthed Jax in the entire series.

But she has hinted at her dislike of Ragatha.

Ragatha and Caine this episode were just so abusive to me that I can't feel sorry for either of them. You CANNOT make choices for other people, you need to let them have freedom. But here they are trying to control Pomni because they don't want her to be able to make her own decisions, they think they know what's best for her.

It's so fucking infantilizing.

When Jax pulled away from Ragatha for this reason, because he wants to go do his own thing, he became to her what Zooble is to Caine right now. Someone stubborn, who doesn't know any better, ergo they think; "I have to put them in their place before they hurt everyone else and possibly my image."

Never even realizing that THEY are the problem.

I know so far a lot of people are headcanoning ribbot as more of a wholesome soft friend to contract Jax’s wild energy, but may I propose to you: ribbit is the reason for his chaotic energy.

Think about it, we know that Jax is the youngest member of the circus. He was probably fucking terrified when he first arrived at the circus. Imagine if ribbit was a person who liked to pull pranks and joke around, not maliciously but in an attempt to enjoy themselves and have fun. Very similar to what Jax does, except they include the others in their jokes so everyone gets to have fun with it. Ribbit befriending an anxious on edge Jax when he first joined the circus, and becoming close by keeping him laughing despite the shitty circumstance? Only for Jax to lose them and develop a warped version of their coping mechanism as his own defense mechanism?

TADC Theory

I’ve seen people saying that the “vegan Jax” bit proves that Jax is an NPC, since Caine has said that he can’t access human minds.

But Gooseworx has told us that Jax isn’t an NPC.

(Also, we’ve seen Ragatha’s mind be altered by the stupid sauce, and Gangle’s by the mania mask. They’d need to be NPCs too, if this theory were true)

So Caine is lying.

But I think it might go further than that. I have a suspicion that there are no NPCs.

The theory is based on the idea that Caine either can’t or doesn’t create sentient beings. Instead, he takes the abstracted humans in the basement, and uses them as raw materials to make adventure characters out of.

There’s clearly some kind of narrative arc going on with Pomni and Gummigoo, and it doesn’t feel finished. I think she’s going to find a door with Gummigoo’s face on it, crossed out, and that’s going to set off the revelation that he’s not fake at all. He’s just a trapped human from before the current group’s time, who lost his mind, spent decades in the basement, and then one day Caine fished him back out, scrambled his brains around, and dropped him in the Candy Land adventure.

It might explain why Caine is afraid of losing track of who’s an NPC and who isn’t; at the fundamental level there is no way to distinguish between them because they’re not different groups.

All of which, if true, implies that the narrative climax will involve a reunion with Kaufmo and Queenie.

Flaws in this theory/Notes:

The Evil Big Tops just kinda looked like that. Caine reusing character designs for the current group? Although if Gangle’s a newer design then it’d explain why she lacked an evil version.

Whole ton of artist’s reference dolls around. That’s a lot of trapped humans. The entire C&A employee workforce?

What exactly is Bubble? A brainwashed human? An extension of the AI? A genuine NPC?

Could be a mix of humans and NPCs, but that feels messier.

Am I the only one who got super uncomfy when Jax reacted to being in a maid costume/dress?

Like I know I had a partial headcanon he was a trans guy so I knew I'd jump to trans in a scene like this but like-??

This was like over the top feeling. The reaction was sooooo upset and beyond "ew yuck why am I in a dress" and full blown "I'm panicking and going to hurt someone, get this off of me!!!" like I could feel the dysphoria thru the screen like dang.

And the earlier comment of "this is what peak male performance looks like, my ears and tail are kinda the pinnacle of masculinity" would be a nice nod to him finally having the masculine body he always wanted in this digital hellscape.

I swear it'd be interesting if he is revealed to be trans later bc I wouldn't have seen that becoming canon. It'd also be an interesting nod to the fact that Jax was originally meant to be a girl and Pomni a boy. (Also this would make the whole Zooble and Jax beef even more interesting in a way)
