We can say terve. We can say hei. We can also say moi, moikka, moro or heippa. We can even say (hyvää) huomenta, päivää or iltaa, if we want to specify the time of day.
Usually it's the cashier who says "hei" first, but if they don't, customer says it first instead. Everyone says hei to each other!
It's completely normal for different countries and cultures to have different greetings that also differ with how casual or formal they sound! 👍We Finns shorten a lot of words and to us, hei is such a simple easy greeting, and I don't think either customer service workers nor the customers think it's rude to use hei.
Honestly, if the exchange sounds less formal (while still being polite), I'm most likely going to feel more comfortable myself! 💜
a string of finnish ladies came through my cash register and every single one of them said "hei" to me and i got such a weird feeling cause nobody i know would just say "hei" to a random stranger, thats for people we know
do yall say hei to cashiers up there???
if thats true i gotta say yall are way too familiar
You don't greet cashiers??
The next thing you say is that you don't thank the bus driver.
#Finnish shit#you say tere so are you estonian? O:#I have no idea what kind of greeting would be considered too familiar here#Terve terve tervaperse#Moikkulimoiiiiiii#MORONÄÄS#No but for real lmao it's all good to be surprised if people talk differently somewhere else#As long as people are not being rude to each other

No one tells you when you get a Big Serious Job™ how many fucking abbreviations you’ll be forced to learn.
#I worked at a fucking hypermarket for a few months and the amount of abbreviations surprised me#other#queue

I know that Peter’s Jackson Lord of the Rings trilogy technically has flaws but also….it doesn’t. It’s perfect.
