I do think fandom would be wildly different if people respected fanfic writing. And I don’t mean treating it as a skill you need to improve or comparing it to published writing—I mean treating it as a hobby worth respect no matter the effort or perceived skill. You don’t look at someone’s art sketches and tell them to go study paintings to improve or to only post something polished. You don’t tell people admiring fanart to go to the moma instead. You don’t go to a gif maker and ask for more gifs minutes after they post. Or ask someone who writes a song to make a second song or tell them how you think they should improve it to your taste. So why do you do all these things to fic writers

Hey girl!! Once again missing my favorite fic and my favorite fictional man 😔 so here to bother you again…

What was Eren’s life like in school and college in TV? Was he the popular, outgoing guy or the quiet but attractive one? If I remember correctly, it was mentioned that he only had one girlfriend which didn’t work out…but all of them are just blind not see someone like him…doesn’t matter all the more for us 😌

I cannot tell you how much I love this question. It’s like every question I get about TV is sooo good and makes me so excited.

Okay, so when Eren was little (I’m talking kindergarten and grade school) he went around beating up any bullies. Of course, this was all initiated by Armin if you can recall Eren’s chat with Reader in the very first chapter. At first, this would scare the kids he’d been trying to save, but Eren has just always been a little clumsy in my opinion so that fear-inducing image would wear off as soon as he took care of business and a lot of kids came to respect/admire him more than like him (does that make sense?)

In high school, he was definitely the kind of guy to get attention because of his looks, but he didn’t really pay much mind to that. He wasn’t shy or even the poster child for extroverts, but he was simply well-liked because he was nice. He was the type to draw lines without intending to, though, which is why despite there being several girls with a crush on him, these rarely were acted upon. He wouldn’t have to reject anyone because he had such a heavy hand with the friendly energy he gave off. So, say a girl likes him and tries testing the waters. He would engage in conversation and even smile at them in the hallway but before the girl can even begin to push any boundaries, they’ve kind of already settled themselves into just being buddies with him. They still acknowledge he’s a catch and he’s cute but it’s like “Eren? Oh, he’s just a really nice guy”. You know how sometimes you can feel when any romantic/sexual tension is mutual or whether it’s just you that’s feeling awkward? Kind of like that. He has very comforting energy. So, even if the person crushing on him is feeling shy and stiff at first, it’s all breezy in the end that they kind of just give up without noticing lol?

When he meets Frieda though, a switch goes off and my man’s purely friendly charm is replaced by a totally romantic one. I imagine her being more bold and coquettish — very feminine and sharp/witty. She has this long dark hair and bright blue eyes with long, thick lashes and rosy cheeks. He blushes and steals glances at her on that first day when she arrived late to their shared class and the last open seat was beside him. She caught him once, shot him a teasing smile when he briefly panicked, and then just started talking more and more. I think they would’ve gotten together because Frieda challenged him to make a move though (which technically means she made the first move). So, what I imagine is they were studying together in his room (of course his parents know he’s crazy about the girl he brought over). They’re huddled over the textbook and Frieda’s explaining something to him but he keeps getting distracted because she’s wearing lipgloss and the scent keeps wafting to him. She notices but thinks it’s funny so she just keeps going only to see how flustered he gets when she finally turns to him and says “you’re not paying attention”.

He stutters an apology, furrowing his brow and tucking his bottom lip between his teeth as he turns back to the jumble of nonsense scattered on the pages of his book when he hears her giggle.

“I wouldn’t mind if you kissed me, you know?”

And when Eren is clearly embarrassed at this, she innocently goes “don’t you like me? I thought maybe you did.” and he quickly assures her “I do. A lot.”

To which she smiles and says “then do something about it” (which is very telling of the kind of guy she prefers and the reason she was suddenly underwhelmed with our guy).

She liked him enough but it was a series of specific little moments where she started accumulating frustration from having to be the one to take charge. He was very accommodating and gentle with her but she found it to be boring once they ran out of new things to experience as teenagers. In the end, she told him he was too soft and she preferred someone a little more rough around the edges. “It’s not a bad thing that you’re nice. It’s just a little boring for me”. That doesn’t make her a villain either. I mean, she was just a teenage girl going through her “I want a bad boy” phase (and didn’t we all?), and at least she was honest. But Eren was devastated, of course. I mean, she was his first love, first kiss, first time.

After that, Eren never dated until he met Reader. Not because he had some silent vow to cut off all romantic feelings ever, but he just never felt compelled to pursue anyone’s attention in that way, and it felt wrong to him to “just try it” knowing his heart’s not fully in. He just lived his life. I’d say he wasn’t much of a drinker in college but he’d go out with the gang and lay pretty low otherwise. He was still well-liked by his classmates, and caught some eyes here and there but he remained true to his high school “friendly charm” ways — nothing of much significance.

Oh, young Eren…

I hope you enjoyed my rambles! Hope this also gave you a bit more understanding as to why Eren approached Reader the way he did (don’t be too hard on him, he was trying something). Frieda did cause some small changes in the way he acts. We all know after chapter 9 that he’s *ahem* evolved from that timid boy he once was. A bit of credit for Reader, though. We know she brings out a lot of new things in him.
