The end...
After some weeks of astonishment because of the way the story had caught me, I´m empty. I need more action, I can´t process it. I must admit that it is a great book and that I really admire the narration of the author, how he added relevant information of each character by explaining how they entered to the mafia and their background. Maybe I thought, for a while, that in some chapters the intensity was lost, but undoubtedly you can´t miss the end.
Here it is exposed the power a family can have. The corruption with the government, the benefits the gangsters used to have, the banal attitude that the society had and is still having with the criminal events and how the power and the fear controls a community. It is a demonstration of the reality of how everything works in some places.
In the last blog I talked about the big war that was taking place in the story between the most powerful families in New York. After a lot of deaths and events, Sonny Corleone, who was managing the Corleone´s business because of the injury that his father, Don Vito Corleone, had, he is killed. This caused uncertainty in the family, with the Godfather out of combat, with Freddie in the hospital because of a bullet, and Michael out of the country because he was guilty of killing a policeman, everything seem to be destroyed.
The Godfather needed to negotiate peace with everyone. He stabilized the business and got the permission of leaving free of jail Michael. Then he retired and let in charge Michael. Vito Corleone died a year after…
The last chapters bring back all the tension, the action. The amazing movement created by the Corleone family at the end of the novel was awesome. I think that the closure was unthinkable (I won´t talk about it because I don´t want to spoil you guys, but it is original). Truly, I would give everything for living those times, maybe it was dangerous, but the way the gangsters understood the world was incredible.
Sometimes the stories are not recognized the way they should, readers think that it is an easy job, that only with imagination and time you can develop a novel, that´s wrong. Mario Puzo could give a big variety to the story, in the narration, in the description, in the story, etc.; and he had the capacity of being clear. The best sample of what I´m talking about is that “The Godfather” catapulted his career ignoring the failure of his previous works. Nowadays, this trilogy is a classic and they are three books that must be in the bucket list of everyone, this story travels the readers to the 60´s and it is fantastic.
Unknown words:
- Outrageous: very wrong (horrible) = The crimes committed by the gangsters in this book were outrageous.
- Lousy: awful (terrible) = The plan Sonny realized was so lousy that cost him the death.
- Drape: curtain (cortina) = Please close the drapes, the light is horrible.

The Godfather
Always you read a “classic”, you understand why it is consider a book for the eternity. The Godfather has caught me in an admirable way. The tension of the plot is never ending; the description is really clear and makes the reader enter to the story. At the beginning, I doubted about if I was going to finish the book because it is a big novel, but truly, I have been enjoying in a such tremendous way the lecture, that my expectations for the time I was about to spend reading, lower too much.
The first chapters began with a big context showing the roles of the characters, the influence and the power of who is understood as the protagonist, the Godfather. Also, the first pages explained in what the mafia consisted and how the 60´s in the United States were lived. As the story developed, the narration of the events changed of perspective. This I loved it, the style the story is narrated is awesome and very clear. This style gives the readers better sources for understanding the novel, it´s important to mention that not any writer can do that.
The best part I have arrived to is when the war between the most important families of New York began. This event made me feel part of the story, it was very well narrated. I must say that the climax had the capacity of transmitting the readers a lot of emotions like were the nerves, the anger, the pain, etc. Every little detail made this classic exciting and unique.
Without thinking it twice, I recommend this novel to everyone. I know that, until now, I haven´t end it, and I don´t know how it is going to end, but sincerely, I can tell you that for sure, you will have fun. At the end, it is a novel that everyone has to read for at least once, because it is a classic. Also, it is general knowledge as they are Edgar Allan Poe, Charles Dickens, Julio Verne or Gabriel García Márquez books. All these novels can guarantee interest..
While I was reading, I found a lot of unknown words, some of them were:
- Bulldoze: Intimidate (intimidar) = We showed them that we have no fear, that´s why they are trying to bulldoze us.
- Grin: Smile (sonreír) = After Mich stop talking, he stare at us with a sardonic grin.
- Frown: Facial expression (fruncir el ceño) = Everyone is frowning because of the terrible stink.

The Godfather
Truly, there are lots of book options; there´s the fiction, the mystery, the non-fiction, the drama, etc. But I didn’t focus too much in which genre I was about to read, I considered that what really mattered was, which was the book. I didn´t want a banal lecture that´s why I chose a novel that will always be in the eternity: The Godfather, the classic that was born almost fifty years ago and that until these days it is meaningful and causes the admiration of every reader. Mario Puzo is the author of the saga that moved the last century. That´s why I decided to read The Godfather, it wasn´t because of the mafia theme or the violence.
The Godfather is about the Italian mafia in the United States, the story has as main characters a family named Corleone which is known as people that help others with their own problems, in exchange of favors and “friendship”. The novel starts in the court, where Amerigo Bonasera tries to vengeance the injury of his daughter caused by this guy that got only three years in the penitentiary. There is when the trama began, when Amerigo Bonasera makes the effort finding Don Corleone asking for help.
For this reading I expect an intense, attractive and interesting story that makes the reader travel to the 60´s and help them to understand that social movement.
Unknown words:
- Woe: Difficulty (infortunio) = His week has been horrible, with lots of woes, he lost his job, he got injured and a terrible illness.
- Slyly: in an intelligent way (astutamente) = Slyly he apologized and fixed the problem before going to the trip.
- Parole: Prisoner release (libertad condicional) = The judge decided to parole the killer until the research of the event is concluded.

The Time Machine
After ending the book I can say that I really like the story. Maybe the beginning was slow and a little bit boring, but as the tale was proceeding, I got attracted by it. I loved the way the Time Traveller told the story, how he made us imagine all his adventures. Also, I loved the romantic relationship that the protagonist had with the White Sphinx named Weena, it´s kind of strange but also it is fantastic. But I must say that the part I liked the most is the end, the suspense the story presents. I was amazed by how the writer let us know that the Time Traveller returns to the travel to show the others the machine works, and nevertheless never returns, it was an unexpected ending.
Alternative ending: In the fight with the Morlocks, Weena runs away and she saves her life. The Time Traveller thinks that Weena died, he escapes from the fight and hides himself. Days later, when he decides to revenge from the Morlocks and fight with them again, he finds the time machine. The protagonist is about to use the machine until he sees something at the distance. The Time Traveller claims that it is Weena, he is impressed. The shape begins to have form, and after some moments he verifies that it is Weena. The protagonist is surprised and he runs in Weena´s direction. She tells him about the machine but the traveller didn´t care about it. He decides to destroy the machine to stay with the White Sphinx because he realizes he has fallen in love with her. Weena and the Time Traveller lives happily in a cave. Nevertheless, the Time Traveller dreams always about coming back and telling the others about his adventures and how he needs to prove them that he isn´t lying by using the time machine. This pattern never ends, sometimes the Time Traveller doubts which is the reality and the dream. Is he living with Weena and dreaming about home? Or, is he home and dreaming with a life with Weena?

The Time Machine
In this story, the Sphinx represents the antagonist. After the Time Traveler traveled to the future (we can know that it was the future because the protagonist talked about plants that evolve becoming better for humans´ purpose), he couldn´t find the time machine because he wasn´t able to communicate with the Sphinx, the one used to laugh at him because of that.
If I would be part of the story, I´d help the Time Traveler to find the machine, I would calm him down and I´d tell him that with patience we would be able to find it or construct another one. Also, I´d tell him that we must work to communicate with them. This, for having more chances of solving the problem. I would be a partner of the Time Traveler and with this, we could be able to find faster the time machine and come back to the present.

The Time Machine
Protagonist:
-The Time Traveller is the main character, he usually works too hard to prove his theories by arguments, but also, by machines. He is a very intelligent scientific that works to demonstrate that there´s a fourth dimension, time. For this, he has been constructing a “time machine”, the idea of this project is the transportation to the past or to the future. If he achieves this, he affirms that the fourth dimension exists because humans could be able to move through time as they wish.
Most important event:
-I consider that the most important part in the story up to now, is when the time traveller showed Filby, the medical man, the young man and the other guys that were in the room; his model. All of them were impressed and uncertain, since they looked at the model, they opened a possibility of a possible fourth dimension.
-First main theme: there´s a Fourth Dimension. The Time Traveller affirms that the time is a dimension because we can return back time by the memories.
-Second main theme: the Time Machine. It needs a lot of energy so that it can work.
How much did you know about them before you started? Before I read this book, I knew that if the time machine existed, it could travel people to the past or the future. I knew it needed a lot of energy.

The Time Machine
I chose this book because I consider that the topic it´s very interesting. I´ve to admit that I´m a curious person that is easily attracted by future themes. I think that it would be impressionant that a time machine really existed, I´m not sure if I would try it or not. I think that everybody would think it twice before trying it, because we know that maybe it will change our life forever, but by the other hand, the curiosity and the impulsive feelings of returning back the time or maybe traveling to the future will make us doubt about it. I´m pretty sure that I won´t get bored with the book.
