Some of the photos I took this weekend as the weather was so nice for my publication. I didn't want anyone to pose so I tried to authentically capture my friends and others in the park. All the photos within my finished publication were taken using my pentax optio digital camera

Publication
I want to make it feel like a scrapbook so I have included images of pressed flowers and plants and might see if tape or pins would also fit the aesthetic
I used my Pentax Optio digital camera to take the majority of the photos so to keep the theme of digital photos throughout the publication i have edited other photos on photoshop to try and look similar
I have used a font that looks like handwriting to fit with the scrapbook feel
I've left blank spaces but also layered photos on top of each other to emphasize the handmade feel too

Photos I have taken to use in my publication
I've been more focused on taking photos of authentic experiences in outside settings rather than staging them. Some of these I took right at the beginning of the module but they fit with the concept well. I am yet to take more photos this weekend. I've compiled a few shots that I'm considering including in my publication:

Articles and Papers relating to my concept
Here is a list of articles, papers, videos etc. that I have quoted within my publication:
I have used a couple sentences from each of these articles as I felt like they captures my concept well

I've had difficulties capturing pictures for my publication due to poor weather. I tried taking photos in a studio, but it was challenging to replicate the natural outdoor ambience. To create a warm lighting effect, I incorporated yellow, orange, and pink gels, along with floral fabric and faux vines for the floor. I liked that the models were wearing white as it made them stand out against the background, however when I shoot photos outside I want my models to wear causal, colourful clothes depending on the activity they're doing.

Film footage
For my film, I used both a Canon Powershot SX150 and my iPhone XS to capture footage. The Canon provided a raw and authentic feel to the shots, thanks to its lower film quality. Meanwhile, my iPhone was ideal for capturing clear views and more detailed shots.
I included footage of people climbing and the area around them to show the different places you can go outside to climb. Luckily it was nice weather on both days so the sunshine helped to make the footage feel warm and cheerful.

Interview Transcript
I spoke with Toby Winnard for an interview, a friend who enjoys climbings outdoors with his friends. Although I had originally planned to use his voice as a narration for the film, I found that it didn't quite match the overall look and feel of the footage. Instead, I decided to add captions of our interview to the shots, allowing the focus to remain on the visuals.
I also thought I could use some of Toby's quotes within my publication and statements from others who enjoy being outside (that I have found online and in person).
Here are a few of the words said by Toby that I included within the film:
"I go climbing with my friends because of how supportive we all are when we finally accomplish a climb that we've been working on for a while."
"even though we are all at different levels of ability everyone's always encouraging each other to try again."
"the physical and mental challenge keeps me motivated to keep going."
"We climb for different reasons, such as improving our skills, discovering new places, we can all trust each other and we generally just have fun."

using fake flowers/plants
using green/floral fabrics

yellow lighting to showcase the sun
the sunshine is what helps the most so getting across the feeling of warmth and brightness in the photos would be key

colour
this is a journal about colour psychology to help decide what colours I would prefer my models to wear and colour scheme id like for the photographs:
red = health, passion energy
orange = empathy, adventurous, nature lovers, full of life, thirst for freedom
green = peace, patience, sincerity, kindness, encouraging social relationships, loyalty
pink = kindness, thoughtful, charismatic, open-minded, making everyone else happy
brown = simplicity
white = image of freedom

feedback
think about what questions I need to ask to get the right answers that will go with the film concept
maybe match up the footage of someone climbing with the audio of someone explaining them overcoming 'something'
what will the aesthetic be? moody? free? calm?

Potential Interview Questions
What are the reasons you go climbing outside? Is it for your physical health, or are there other reasons??
Why do you go climbing with this group of people?
Do you think climbing outdoors has a positive impact on you? Is it mental and/or physical?

Film Ideas
shots of the group climbing together
I would like to film all of the footage first, and the come up with a vague storyline
close up shots of their hands, the chalk and the rock are interesting to me
interview a couple of the climbers and include it as a voiceover
have music in the background that doesn't take away from the voiceovers and footage
I also think including the audio of the group talking together would create more interest
I would like to film on both my digital camera and a more high-quality camera
maybe borrow a go pro
Location:
The Lake District
Stannage
People Involved:
My group of friends who go climbing
maybe shots of other groups who are climbing

My editorial concept is
exploring the relationship between the outdoors and mental health. The film specifically looks at climbing outside as that is one of the most popular hobbies in the Lake District. The publication I would like to be more styled, and modelled shoots still outside but using multiple models to portray a sense of community and happiness.

Stanage Edge is where a lot of my friends go climbing when at uni, and Farleton is where people go climbing at home so these are possible shoots for locations and for my film.

some photos I took to try an see how taking photos of climbing would work, I think I would like to try more staged photos for my publication using models and for the video film climbers climbing and interview them rather than take casual photos of them.
