Part II
Okay, since the beginning of this “adulting” thing, life got in the way. You get busy with jobs and life getting in the way, it happens.
However, in life, there are twists and turns. There are old jobs and new jobs. Transitions, both intentional and unplanned.
I was laid off of my job this week. The organization is amazing, and I have a true heart for the work I was doing. However, it was not a “good fit”. This was hard for me because a comment my boss said was “you are not meant to sit behind a desk all day.” This stuck with me because after graduating from college, there is an expectation to do a certain “type” of job.
People who graduated in education or accounting degrees know their path. But when you are passionate about humanities, your options aren’t as clear.
Since I have a love for the agency I am in and am passionate about the work we do, I moved forward and looked for other opportunities that I could pursue. So, starting this next week, I will work closely with the people who we support, and learn a different role in how I can make a difference in people’s lives.
While this is not what I “imagined for myself” (due to societal expectations), I am excited about this new opportunity. I want to be able to make an impactful difference in my agency, and the best way for me to do that is to learn every aspect of what we do. While I could not have predicted any of this happening, I have learned that one’s path is not carved by the world around them, but by what they choose to do.

There is literally nothing in nature that blooms all year long, so do not expect yourself to do so.

I’m trying hard to live by Cat Principles. 1- I am glorious above all things 2- Eat when hungry, sleep when sleepy, play when bored 3- Affection is given and received on my terms and only mine 4- Show displeasure clearly. 5- NO 6- Demand the things you want. If they aren’t given, demand them again, but louder this time. 7- If you are touched when you don’t want to be, say so. If they continue to touch you, make them bleed.

Key to real-adulting, from a previously terrible student.
Four years ago, no body would have guessed I would be where I am today.
In high school I didn't try; I didn't care about school because I knew I could put in minimal effort and get by. This was a terrible mindset to have and a hard habit to beak.
When I was applying to colleges my options became limited; I looked up “easiest colleges to get into”, out of curiosity and to ensure a “safety school”. I found the University of Wyoming. While I applied and got into other colleges, through other circumstances I ended up at a school where I did not know anyone, had no ties to my life in California, a complete new start; it was a perfectly planned accident.
My time at UW was amazing; I had valuable internship opportunities that progressed me in my career path, met amazing friends, the love of my life, I found my passions and I was given  the tools to help me excel in school and my career. I did not learn how to be a good student until my last year or so, the friends I made my last semester were surprised I was ever a bad student and assumed the best of me; they did not know the poor student I was so they only expected excellence, because that I what I learned to exude.
After graduating in three and a half years, with a B.A. in Communication and a Minor in Philosophy (first person in my family to graduate early, and/or with a minor), I felt more than prepared for the real world with the experiences that I was given in my time in Laramie. I realized what I want in a job was to help others, in some way shape or form; I want to put a smile on peoples faces. Ideally I would be able to control my schedule, be able to work independently from home but still have ensured pay, the ability to create ties and connections in the community I would be going into, and to overall enjoy going to work.
Most people after college move back home temporarily to find their ground and go back to their roots; I moved to yet another new state where I do not know anyone. Following my boyfriend to his hometown of Rapid City, SD, and was lucky enough to have his family to take me in while I find my ground in a new territory. I managed to find a dream job with no help, no ties to the community, purely from the experience I gained.
Go to small towns; the problem with college students having trouble finding jobs after college is they are too ambitious. Graduated students have the dream of big cities and nice cars. You have to work in baby steps; start small. Find your ground and build your resume so when you get to the point where you can have the type of job where you can afford to live in a city, you have the experience necessary to fulfill that position.
