Reflection
On reflection of this entire project I think it would be beneficial to add some park equipment near the cinema seating to reflect the family friendly space we want to inspire. Young children can be restless so providing some interactive fun will make it a better space for families to enjoy.

Filling a gap in the Brisbane community scene
Brisbane is seeking more. More engagement, more entertainment, more experience. That is exactly what this development aims to do. Northshore will offer a one stop, community engaging experience for everyone to enjoy. The precinct differs from other successful developments in Brisbane because it is diverse in its offerings and able to be enjoyed again and again. The existing Eat Street development compliments the Outdoor Cinema and together creates a unique and entertaining experience Brisbane hasn’t yet seen.

Digital Footprint
To further encourage community engagement there will be an app available so that the public can vote for which movie to watch and make suggestions for future films. Another way we will be incorporating digital media is by putting barcodes at all the aboriginal art which will take you to the artists website or Instagram. This touches on social ethics and allows for international visitors to learn more about the history while creating opportunities for young indigenous artists.

Enduring significance
The Northshore client is seeking a program deliverable to the Brisbane community which can be experienced more than once. Eat Street attracts people generally only once or twice. If you continually visit Eat Street you will be offered the same experience every time. This new innovative outdoor cinema offers a different experience each visit, allowing for repeat engagement and enduring significance.

Aboriginal History
The land in which Northshore now stands was once a fishing ground for the indigenous Turrbal language group. Ancient aboriginal history shouldn’t be overlooked in the design aspect of the new development. The goal is to celebrate aboriginal culture by enriching the space with colourful, aboriginal designs and arts. When walking through the grounds it is clear to see the obvious play off the ‘wharf’ history. Paying respect to both histories of the land are important and both an opportunity for community education and participation through design, targeted at tourists and locals. We will be reaching out to members of the aboriginal community to be involved in the design aspect. Allowing for engagement from all sides and creating opportunities for young indigenous artists. This concept embodies the “culturally vibrant’ pillar outlined by the client in the Client vision statement (accessed on blackboard).

Accessible All Year Round
When I envision the outdoor cinema I see fairy lights, bean bags, couches, green grass, sunsets, picnic blankets and popcorn. Some things to consider when designing this space are weather. In order to make this space successful throughout the year I will need to incorporate water proof beanbags and seating. Incorporating a weather cover could also be of value to the site. In winter, I plan on having blankets accessible to everyone, to keep the experience comfortable and attainable.

The Market/Competition
Brisbane’s current outdoor cinema market is limiting. There are pop up cinema programs over Summer such as moonlight cinema and Sunset cinema. Twilight Flicks even offers a mobile outdoor cinema around Brisbane. Having Eat Street already a successful project based at Northshore it is easier to extend the brand and add value to the customers. Having a permanent Outdoor Cinema location in Brisbane allows for popularity to grow overtime and become a well known entertainment destination. With other developments on the way as well such as Think Street, possible event spaces and offices. The project blends in well with the culture Northshore wants to create.

Sustainability
Re-using shipping materials saves on development costs and uses fewer resources which is better for the environment; touching on the ethical side of operation. With this precinct aimed at being a future hot-spot in Brisbane’s booming community spaces, it is important to remain within the ethical framework the community is trending towards. It is clear to see as you look around, much of the architecture, art and design is re-used materials. Reflecting on the history and making the old new again. As the new development for Northshore comes into existence, keeping the theme based sustainability is key. Continuing the reuse materials wherever possible. Drink bottle refill stations will also be spread out around the site. Encouraging the community to reuse their water bottles.

Wharf history
The grounds are covered in shipping containers and wharf paraphernalia. Its rich history spread out athletically amongst the current under-developed scenery. The deck is an award winning small building located in the middle of the precinct. It is made from materials previously used in the port when it was operated for transporting goods in and out of Brisbane. Northshore responds to the early Brisbane days in creative ways and I would like to expand on this in further development. Showcasing this history throughout the design of the cinema is an opportunity for creativity. My goal is to have the history and port information accessible and visible throughout the design. Perhaps working some ‘boat’ designs into the cinema seating. Using colours and textiles that reflect the wharf history. E.g. Deep blues, water patterns, long beanbags/cushions that represent the flow of the Brisbane river or shaped like boats.

Setting the scene
Starting the experience with a walk through Eat Street and situating in the lush green grass, accompanied by a picnic blanket or settle into some of the bean bags/seats provided. Grab some popcorn and coke from the popup stalls. Watch the sunset over the river with the Brisbane city landscape nestled in the background, setting the perfect scene for a entertaining evening. Watch a film on the large screen backed off onto the Brisbane river. After the movie, stay and have a drink, listen to music and stay under the fairy lights chatting and socialising or pop back into Eat Street for some desert.
