Ambassador in Training
61 posts
My name is Sarek, son of Sybok.  I am a Starfleet Cadet, a Junior Ambassador, and a V’Tosh Ka’Tur.  I was taken from my father at a young age, following the death of my mother, and raised by my maternal grandparents, who did everything they could  to turn me into a traditional Vulcan, but they failed miserably.  After that, they kept me locked away, never allowing me to leave their home, educating me themselves and forcing me into what they called “correctional therapy.”  When I came of age, I ran, I joined Starfleet and now I’m on the Enterprise, finishing my training before I graduate.

Sarek hardly felt as though he had been performing at all that week.  He hadn't developed the fever until earlier that day, but the change in the weather had left him with a pounding headache in addition to his itchy, watery eyes and his sinus congestion, it was incredibly hard to focus on his lessons in the social mores of or various alien planets when it felt like something was trying to bore a hole in his sinuses.
He opened his mouth to say something and had to turn away and sneeze twice into his elbow.  Wincing slightly, he turned to his instructor, "Thank you for your assistance today, sir, I will return when I have recovered fully."  The instructor nodded and returned to the other students and Sarek turned to the ambassador, "I incorrectly assumed that my body would recover when the weather returned to normal.  Clearly I was mistaken, I just didn't want to infringe on the hospitality of you and Lady Amanda.  I've dealt with this before and I know how inconvenient having someone who is ill in your home, so I felt it best to not say anything and try and heal on my own."
He looked back up, meeting the ambassador's eye for the first time, "Yes, sir."

Let's learn this healing thing...
Sarek had admit that his new living situation made him incredibly happy, he was feeling much more at ease than he had in ages and his school work had improved because of it.  While his mother’s parents hadn’t approved of the change, they allowed it to happen, as the logic behind his reasoning was sound.  He found himself enjoying his time with lady Amanda, she was loving and caring in a way that reminded him of his mother, and he was learning a great deal from her and the ambassador.
Things had been going fairly well overall, until Vulcan received one of its rare, but violent rainstorms.  That seemed to shake things up enough that Sarek’s allergies, while usually well controlled given Vulcan’s normal climate, were now a nightmare.  As he was unable to perform a healing trance, he had grown used to function while not feeling well, and he was relatively good at hiding it from others, so for the first week or so, there was no sign that he was miserable, but at some point, his condition switched from being uncomfortable to being genuinely worrisome.
Still, used to hiding his problems, Sarek said nothing about his severe sinus pain and his elevated body temperature and hid it until one of his instructors got a good look at him and insisted he be sent home.  The school was aware of his recent change in residence, so they contacted the ambassador, and Sarek waited, leaning against the wall, finally giving in to how miserable he was feeling and letting his face rest against the wall, finding some comfort in the cool stone against his burning face.
When the Ambassador arrived, Sarek pulled away from the wall and looked down, “I’m sorry for interrupting your work, sir, but they insisted I be sent home.”

"I’m telling you, honey and cinnamon cure everything."
"This is going to sting."
"Don’t swallow that. It’s a suppository."
"At this point, how is your liver even still functioning?"
"I hope...

"Thank you, sir." Sarek said, feeling as though a huge weight had been lifted off his shoulders.  He didn't hold anything against his mother's parents, he knew that they felt they had failed their daughter and they were worried that they would fail him as well.  They didn't mean him any harm, they just though that by showing him the downside of life away from Vulcan, they could convince him to follow their lifestyle rather than that of his parents.  Did he enjoy being ridiculed by his peers or having to suffer through every illness he came into contact with? Of course he didn't, but he could bring himself to hold it against them, despite the fact he desperately wanted to get away from them.
He nodded, "It took me a long time to realize that he probably didn't forget about me.  When I knew him, he was always very attentive and present.  It was really my fault I was taken away in the first place, we were interviewed by some Vulcan officials and I was in a rough place then, my mother had just died and I was upset.  I don't remember what set me off, but I had some kind of emotional meltdown and even though he was able to get me past it, they deemed him an unfit parent and they took me away.  It wasn't his fault and I've wanted to apologize for a long time, but I can't if I don't even know where to find him to try and contact him."

"Well," Sarek could feel his cheeks heating up, he was sure he was a nice deep shade of green righ tnow."  I have this rash, and it's not exactly in an area I'm comfortable whipping out in front of everyone here.  I'm pretty sure it's due to a food allergy, since this kind of thing happens fairly often, but usually I get the rash on my chest or sometimes on my face, but it's very uncomfortable and I didn't really know where else to go to get it fixed."

[parents] I'm so sorry, darling. I know I couldn't have done anything to change the circumstance, but I would have tried. I never wanted you to have to suffer because of the way your father and I lived our lives. You were the most precious thing in my life and I will always love you, I just wish I could have done more to prepare you for the life you were forced to live.

"Of course, I wouldn't ask you make a decision right now and I understand that it is a great deal for me to ask of you, as we never met before today.  If you are unable to arrange it, I understand that I would not hold it against you or your wife, I can certainly hold out for another year and a half if I have to."  He tried his hardest to sound as though he would be alright staying where he was, he was pretty sure that he was sending out, 'please save me from this living hell I've been trapped in' vibes, at least a part of him hoped he was.
"There was one other thing I wanted to ask you, if it would be alright. I know that you and my father didn't exactly part on the best of terms, but have you heard from him at all?  He promised that he'd try and keep in touch with me, but I imagine any contact he tried to make would have been stopped before it got to me and I'd very much like to speak with him again."

"I guess that makes sense, I suppose we have some time to figure out what exactly the plan will be for the holiday.  If I don't figure anything out, it's just another day, I've never celebrated Christmas before, there's no point in feeling bad about not doing it now."

(Reworded some things.) Kre: "You are leaving out cookies and milk to encourage an elderly overweight homo sapiens male to break into your quarters? How illogical."
"I admit, it sounds strange, but my human classmates have impressed upon me that it’s vital part of the tradition and if I don’t do it, I will be disrespecting their holiday and I wouldn’t want to be rude."
