At Emre’s comparison, Josh found himself cringing slightly. “Really? Seth Cohen? We’re going there?” he questioned with a laugh. Not that he was an expert in One Tree Hill, of course, but still. “I’m going to pretend I believe that defence. Pretty similar to mine, to be honest.” He’d definitely blame his sister for his random teen drama show knowledge. “I hadn’t thought about it, honestly. So whatever. I’m guessing you’ve been back here longer than me, so you know the better places.” He shrugged gently. “But that works.”
“I’m seriously going to be judging myself for a while for even bringing that up.” He’d have to bring it up to Leyla later on though, at least for a good laugh. Emre pursed his lips as he thought about it for a moment, while he had been in town longer than Josh, there was only so much he even knew about places to go himself. “We can just wing it,” he turning to walk towards the direction of his car, nodding in its direction for Joshua to accompany him. “How long have you been back for anyway?”

“To an island?” Josh questioned with a laugh. “Haven’t you seen the movies? That’s usually how people end up stranded in the middle of nowhere.” And knowing his luck, that’s exactly where he’d end up. “I daren’t even try… as tempting as it is.” At Emre’s words, he nodded his head in agreement. “You know what? Sounds really good. I should probably eat soon anyway, can’t survive on coffee forever.”
Emre shook his head, laughing a bit at how it was a little ridiculous he could sail off to an island on his own. “It would be very...” he trailed off thinking of who that could be compared to, “— Seth Cohen of you?” He rolled his eyes at the mention of the character, though knowing that was even more ridiculous. “Don’t ask how I even know of that character, my sister watched a lot of teen dramas like that. But since you’re up for lunch, is there anything in specific you’re in the mood for?” he asked, searching his pockets for a moment to pull out his keys. “It’s close but I’d rather not leave my car here. Ride there could give you a chance to think about it if you want?”

emre–yavuz·:
Aaron had been staring at the menu that hung behind the counter long enough that he had stepped away from the line that had queued up behind him, his arms crossed over his chest as he went over the options laid out before him. He was hungry, but he wasn’t sure what he was feeling, and it had put him into some kind of stupor in which he didn’t seem capable of making a decision on the matter. A few times, people had tapped him, and asked if he was in line, only for him to gesture for them to go ahead before he resumed his staring down the menu. There was something more familiar, however, about the way this hand connected with his shoulder. As he turned to face the person who had pulled his focus from the menu, his eyebrows knit together slightly. It was a moment of recognition and confusion — he knew the face before him, but it didn’t fit with the scenery around him, mostly because his sister wasn’t around — before it dawned on him. “Jesus — hey, Emre. It’s been a while,” Aaron echoed, finally reaching out and shaking his hand. “I’ve been alright. Life’s good. How about you, man? What have you been up to?”
Given the slight confusion in Aaron’s face it was obvious that Emre had caught him off guard, but nonetheless gave him a smile, “It’s been more than a while.” Aaron hadn’t been someone particularly easy to catch for a long time given he had his responsibilities but this time around it was one encounter with an Aldridge Emre wasn’t dreading. “Glad to hear it — you’ve got preseason coming up soon right? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in meetings this past month with people already trying to rope me into making bets with them for the season,” he laughed a bit, shaking his head. The last time Emre was sure he had seen Aaron was during a time he was still with Ava but he waved it off, “I honestly can’t even give you a solid enough answer that doesn’t have something to do with business meetings and travel time I wish was for leisure.” Taking step closer to the same menu Aaron had been looking at he quickly scanned the options, “Were you planning on eating here? Let me buy you lunch.”

Olivia didn’t realise how much she had needed to see Emre until he was stood outside her door and her arms were wrapped around him. She had walls, walls that no one other than her family, and of course Diana, had ever managed to bring down, and yet here she was, worrying about what he thought of her. It scared her. Scared her to think that he might think of her a less than he did before. Scared that these secrets could have ended something before it had truly began.
She felt her shoulders sag in relief at his reassurance that her surprise hug was okay, that she hadn’t overstepped any mark and more so that he wanted to hug her back. She welcomed the feel of his hand in hers and smiled as she looked up at him. “I’m uh, I’m okay too.” Shaking her head, she squeezed his hand just as gently as he had. “No, don’t apologise, I’m glad you’re here.” she looked down at her feet before continuing. “I tried to call, but I didn’t know what to say and I didn’t know if you’d want to speak to me.” her voice was small as she admitted the fear she’d felt and she let out a shaky breath.
“Come in,” it was more a request than a question, and without releasing his hand, she led him inside. “The girls are out so it’s just us.” She led him to the sofa and smiled shyly, pushing her hair back behind her ears. “Do you want a drink? Tea? Coffee? Whatever alcohol we’ve got stashed in the kitchen?”
Wanting to be close to people isn’t something that Emre had ever really gone out of his way to do. He preferred doing a lot of things on his own since it felt like many people were on a mission to perpetually disappoint him. Maybe he wasn’t giving people enough of a chance, or more importantly he wasn’t giving himself a chance but this was someone he was willing to throw away his rulebook for. From the first time they’d actually had a conversation Olivia had been charming and sweet; since then Emre couldn’t place why but he wanted that first conversation to be the first of many.
Shaking his head at her words, he couldn’t imagine a reason why he would choose to not be standing at her door. They both had secrets that they both knew of now, and for the first time in a long time he actually felt a little bit of shame. It had all happened a long time ago and it had never truly affected him until now. “I would have been glad to hear your voice if you called,” he admitted firmly.
Following her inside he took note of the layout, he’d passed by a few times but never long enough for him to really look. “I can’t say I’ve ever actually caught all of you home at the same time,” he chuckled softly. “I think tea sounds good, but if alcohol were to be the easier option to get I wouldn’t be against it either.”

aldridge-ava·:
As the low blow left her lips Ava did the best thing she knew how to do. Emre had always been the one to shut down when a situation could occur between the pair and Ava made her best attempt to fight with him and push past whatever was coming between them. There was no them now. No matter how much she wished that she did things differently Ava couldn’t take away her actions no matter how much she wanted to. Now it was quick for her to shut down. Deciding to let her eyesight move past him as the feeling of cinderblocks hit her chest Ava was at a complete loss of words. “I don’t know. I just..” Finding herself beginning to stutter as emotions overwhelmed her Ava hesitated before glancing at him once more. “I don’t know what you want to hear.”
Their relationship felt as if it had happened ages ago but now seeing her here after all the time that had passed, there were a few feelings inside him that made things he wanted to ignore come back. As much as he wished that they could have walked away from it all amicably, it all made his stomach feel as if it were upside down. “You don’t have to—” he stopped himself before he could say something else that might be too harsh. Ava wasn’t to blame for everything. “I don’t know how to feel about this,” he said mostly to himself but the situation couldn’t be avoided. They were already face to face. “I thought that if I were to see you again, this would be easier.” A confession that surprised him more than expected once he actually said it out loud.

If Emre had a dollar for every time he ran into an Aldridge, no matter what city he was in he’d have way too much money to even count. It wasn’t the same feeling every time he saw one of them though, at times it was good and at times not so good. This time he was neutral for the most part. Emre had never been particularly close to any of Ava’s family members when they had dated with the exception of Abby but Aaron was somewhat of a toss-up. Walking up to him he went with his gut, patting the guy on the shoulder twice, “Hey how are you?” He held out a hand to shake, hoping Aaron wouldn’t be bothered by his approach. “I haven’t seen you in a while.” Emre was sure the last time he’d seen him, he was still involved with Ava.

It wasn’t exactly the worst part of his newest living arrangement, in fact, Josh was pretty sure he could write a list of the downsides. He was happy, though, had no complaints. “Right?” he questioned with a chuckle. “Not great, is it?” He wouldn’t lie, he was surprised to see Emre around, he hadn’t really expected to see anyone —- aside from maybe the occasional Aldridge anyway. But, of course, they were both from Santa Monica originally, so there was always going to be a chance. “Well, I can’t really say much on that. The last three years, owning a boat’s definitely been a must for me,” he laughed. “Not much, heading back after. That’s it.”
One thing that was always certain no matter where you were in the world, there would always be an Aldridge running around town. They were at least consistent in that way. "I've run into a few of them myself," he said nonchalantly with a shrug, wishing he hadn't run into one in particular. "I'm surprised you're even here, I'd expect you to be out somewhere trying to get to an island," he joked. Checking the time on his watch, he realized he'd spent way too much time than he had initially wanted on this boat scouting trip. "I don't think they have iced coffee but I know a place by the boardwalk that's got good food and a bar, you interested?"

emre–yavuz:
No matter how hard she tried, the night of the secrets was practically playing on repeat. Things had gotten out, things that should never have seen the light of day. But secrets never stayed buried for long, that much she’d learned. She’d been lucky, her secrets hadn’t been groundbreaking, though her sister wasn’t exactly talking to her right now, even if the incident had happened ten years ago.
Despite everything, Emre had been the first to come to her mind and she felt this overwhelming urge to explain things to him. She’d attempted to call, but always hung up and she wasn’t spontaneous enough to turn up at his door because she had this horrible feeling that he’d turn her away. Who wanted someone so messed up that she suffered nightmares and thought kissing her sister’s boyfriend was absolutely fine? A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts and she got up, wrapping her cardigan around her as she made her way across the apartment. Not expecting anyone, she opened it, ready to tell whoever it was that they’d clearly got the wrong door when the sight of Emre greeted her.
“Emre.” she was going to say more but she did something unexpected and wrapped her arms around him, taking herself, and no doubt him, by surprise but it felt right. “I’m sorry, I just…” she faltered, swallowing thickly as she pulled away from him, “Are you okay?”
Emre wasn’t the type of person to let themselves get overcome by any feelings of disparity, nervousness, and much less intimidation. The last time he felt that was the day that the first decision he had made on his own turned out to be his first failure. He could remember standing outside his father’s office trying to knock to tell him all about how he’d lost two million dollars and had potentially ruined the friendship between his father and one of his oldest business friends. In all fairness, Emre deserved to feel all of those things but they weren’t half as bad as the look of disappointment on his fathers face when he found out. But now, that didn’t even seem to scratch the surface for Emre as he stood before Olivia’s door.
Emre had always been his own worst critic apart from his parents. The expectations they had set for him and his sister were no longer relevant to him because in the end even if they went above and beyond, their concerns were elsewhere. With everything he’d kept to himself now revealed though, Emre’s mind had gone to Olivia faster than he’d expected it to. For the first time in a long time, he actually cared about what someone thought about him rather than just brushing it off.
The moment the door opened, he felt his breathing suddenly stop followed but a quick drop of his heart when he felt her arms wrap around him and while it took a moment for him to sigh in relief he put his arms around her as well. “No, it’s okay,” he cleared his throat, looking down as his hand reached for hers without a second thought. “I’m— I’m good. How about you? I wanted to come sooner but I wasn’t sure if I should. Given everything that’s happened over the past few days...” Giving her hand a gentle squeeze he shook his head, “I should’ve called but I was here before I knew it.”

“Overpriced, sure, but sometimes I need it…” Josh hadn’t expected the person he’d spoken to to be an old friend when they finally turned to face him and a smile immediately plastered itself onto his face. “You try living on a boat, there’s not exactly much in the way of AC.” He shrugged his shoulders then, holding his hands out a moment as if to say ‘what can you do?’. After a brief pause, rolling back on his heels for a moment and shoving his hands into his pockets, he had to shake his head —- pretty much in disbelief. “What are you even doing here, man?”
Money had never been an issue for either of them but there was still something about the coffee prices in many places around so-cal that were just downright ridiculous. “You know what, sometimes the idea of living on a boat doesn’t seem so bad. But you got me with the AC thing.” The last time Emre could remember seeing Joshua was right before he was supposed to get married and now it was setting in that he should’ve been running into Josh with a wedding band on his finger. “A business friend of mine wanted me to come down here and look at some boats. He insists that owning one is a must and I only agreed to appease him,” he shrugged. “I was about to call it a day though, you doing anything besides looking for coffee?”

Letting her free hand come up to cover her mouth as she rubbed her face not sure exactly how much he even wanted to speak with her at this point. Letting her eyes glance at him for no longer than a moment the last thing Ava wanted was to cause some sort of scene between them. “My siblings aren’t exactly fond of me so…” She admitted even if he already knew that. Clearly, nothing had changed when it came to her family dynamic too much. Feeling the anxiety beginning to creep up with every passing second Ava let out a sigh uncertain of how to even approach him on any topic. “Are just going to be those exes that act like nothing happened between us?”
This was the last thing he’d imagined having to deal with for the day and as the words left her lips, flashbacks of parts of their relationship flashed through his mind. It was obvious that things hadn’t ended in the best of terms and while there were times when he thought back on it feeling as if things could have ended better. Still, the more prominent thought was that maybe they were doomed from the start. Rather than showing her signs of the old him, the Emre that could get riled up, he shook his head and took a deep breath as if that would be enough to calm himself. “I wasn’t going to do any acting, only one of us seemed to be good at that,” he responded not being able to hold his tongue in that moment though. “How is it exactly we’re supposed to act, Ava?”

Keeping her eyes towards the ground as the overwhelming feeling of seeing him flooded back upon her. There hadn’t been much conversation since she had applied for the show and now she didn’t know exactly how she was supposed to interact with him. Just engaging seemed difficult at this point. “Mother sent me to try and get my siblings back home.” She said even if she was certain that wasn’t what he meant. Pulling her long sleeves down to cover the fact her finger was bare from any ring not sure how much he had kept up with life at this point. “I didn’t image running into you either.”
Emre remembered the exact words his mother had said the first time Ava had appeared on the show. “You two actually looked really great together.” It was the first and last time he even bothered checking in on how Ava had been doing and not because he was upset or jealous — Emre just felt like he didn’t even know who that girl was. Maybe things were better off that way, but wherever there’s one Aldridge running around a city there would always be at least another three of them not far behind. “Of course she did,” he shook his head, letting a heavy silence fall between them for moments that felt way too long. “I live here, I’ve run into many other Aldridge kids. Figured one of them would have given you warning if you ever came here.”

The events that had occurred recently were hardly on his mind anymore and the more he occupied his time with his usual business, the less he even seemed to remember any of it. There was a time and place for everything, and the casino had been the time and place that everyone would be exposed much to most peoples surprise. Thinking back on it though, none of it seemed like it mattered — at least not for the moment. Something had given him an eerie feeling as soon as he’d left his apartment though, and it all became clear the moment he saw a face he’d thought was only a figment of his imagination. “This is the last place I’d imagine seeing you,” he said as he approached her, giving in knowing that running into her would eventually happen.
@emre–yavuz
Ava felt as if she had nothing in her home. Moving away from her comfort of home left her without many items to decorate her new area. After the fiasco at the casino with running straight into her past, Ava was looking for whatever distractions she could be provided with. The biggest distraction she could find would fix both of her troubles. Shopping. Letting her fingertips graze across outside stands as she made her way towards the downtown area. Hannah was overwhelmed over the aspects of such a large town again. She couldn’t remember the last time she was in such a large city. There were so many places to look at and see. The sight she didn’t expect was Emre. “Oh shit.”
