“World War III.” “A crippled economy.” “Chaos.” Will these ominous predictions of a post-Brexit world come to fruition? Inspired by my time in England, which was during the month of the vote, I explore the uncertainty and socioeconomic consequences of the UK's referendum in the Claremont Journal of Law and Public Policy’s latest print edition.

And one final note... This vlog I made is just a snippet of our time abroad. It's a mix of different cities, different people, different times, and different emotions. All of them combined made this month the experience that it was, and I am truly grateful for that. Hope you enjoy! :)

University of Bristol, thank you for being such a wonderful host institution this month. I love the university and its students, faculty, and city.
This past month has truly been eye-opening. Thank you Fulbright for the opportunity. Thank you to the Fulbright family for all being amazing people–I’ve learned so much from each of you. And thank you to our British friends and mentors who let us be a part of their lives and taught us everything from the history of Bristol to introducing us to delicious British candies.
There will always be a special place in my heart for Bristol. <3

@ Cardiff Castle, Wales
Cardiff Castle is home to some gorgeous architecture and interior design. Every inch of every room is filled to the brim with ornaments. As a bibliophile, my favorite room was the library. I would love a room like that someday!

@ Cardiff Castle, Wales
Our visit to Cardiff happened to coincide with Joust!, a weekend-long medieval festival filled with pomp and pageantry with all that you would expect from the turbulent times of the Middle Ages when the knights were the celebrities of the day. The Knights of Royal England jousted in a spectacular contest with horseback stunts, falls, fights, and breath-taking action. A combination of fun and adventure, this serendipitous encounter was one of my favorite memories from the trip!

@ Cardiff, Wales
We had a free Sunday during our last week, so Mackenzie, Luke, and I decided to take a trip to Cardiff since it is only an hour’s bus ride away from Bristol.

@ Appledore, Devon
In our short visit to Appledore, we took a ferry across the river, enjoyed some of North Devon’s very own Hocking's Ice Cream, and made a few furry friends along the way :)

@ Appledore, Devon
Appledore is a village at the mouth of the River Torridge. It is home to Appledore Shipbuilders, a lifeboat slipway, and Hocking's Ice Cream, a brand of ice cream only sold in North Devon.
For my Pomona College friends: Spotted a 47, chirp chirp!

@ Bristol Old Vic, Bristol
One of my bucket list items was to watch live theater, and we were fortunate enough to get tickets to King Lear at the Bristol Old Vic! It was my first time seeing a Shakespeare play live, and it was brilliantly done. To top it off, they used many authentic 18th century sound effects, including using wooden wheels, gutters, and balls to recreate the sounds of a thunderstorm.

@ Bristol Cathedral, Bristol
Located on College Green, the cathedral has tall Gothic windows and pinnacled skyline. In addition to the cathedral's architectural features, it contains several memorials and an historic organ.

@ Warmley, Kingswood
Fashionable 18th century gentlemen often had grottoes in their gardens! They may have been meant to represent the descent into the underworld. The mysterious collection of vaulted chambers at Warmley comprises one of the most extensive man-made grottoes in England. These passages and cave-like structures include a complex water system that produces cascades and pools.

@ Warmley, Kingswood
Warmley was built in 1750 for William Champion (1709-89), a Quaker industrialist who had moved his brassworks from Bristol to Warmley in 1746. Many features of the house had a dual purpose, being both ornamental and of use in the industrial processes.
The statue in the first photo depicts Neptune. Known locally as the ‘Warmley giant’, this representation of the king of the sea is around 30 feet high and is made almost entirely of cement and decorated with black clinker from Champion’s works.
