the choice is a difficult one to make. even now as she makes her approach, veronica can feel hesitation weigh heavy on her body. each step across the barrack halls is as lightning strikes, and her breath hitches unevenly upon every exhale. her thoughts on embla remain divided, even now that it's been months since she saw the goddess last. her anger cannot be denied, but so can the strange softness that twists her heart awful.

and so, in spite of this pain— because of this pain— the emblian heir trudges on. she walks and walks until she stands an arm's length from embla, and stops in front of her with all the grave finality of a funeral bell. veronica faces her with a lifted chin. in part, to assert confidence; in truth, to fight back the tears that traitorously prick at the corners of her eyes.

"embla." veronica's voice starts off evenly, but it soon breaks into pieces— jagged shards of hurt, anger, and bitterness that are sharp enough to pierce.

"we… need to talk. don't try to fight. you can't, now that you're in askr. besides, i…" she squeezes her eyes shut, as though to ward off a migraine, "i know why you're like this… so don't make this any more difficult than it needs to be by running away. let's talk. now."

"You assume I would want to give myself unnecessary attention? Impudent child-" Embla stopped dead in her tracks, her blood... this woman was of her blood. She could feel it. A small smile came to her face, it was easy to assume the shorter woman would have answers to all of her questions. The god just needed to find out how to ask them without giving herself away.

Something about her was... strange, though. There was a disconnect between them that shouldn't be there. Just as quickly as that uneasy smile appeared, it returned to a scowl. "What is there to talk about? I have nothing to say to anyone. If you're going to prod me about things you think you know about me, you are wrong. I won't run, but you better make this worth my time." Her terrifying eyes narrowed, she took a step backwards, attempting to gain more distance between them. Being so close to someone made her uncomfortable.

I am so sorry I've been so inactive, there's been so much happening between tornado warnings in the past week, big life events, etc.

But I plan on being at least a little active today! I miss writing so I will be here TvT

What is your role in a tragic play?

misunderstood villain

prepare for an onslaught of both the most dehumanizing and hateful takes, and flood of thirst comments. you are chronically misunderstood. whether or not you're actually evil is debatable. you may be acting out for revenge, to defend someone you love, or even just to protect yourself. you're a pretty jaded person. you don't trust or even really like most people. maybe you did at one point. but that part of you is gone, and you don't go a single day without grieving it. you think a lot about what your life could have been. you're stuck in the past. you're angry and maybe you don't even want to be, but this is the only way you can see to survive. you're open, but less in a trusting way and more like a wound. you don't like to let people see you, but the hurt spills out of you before you can stop it. you're impulsive, even as you try hard to plan and prepare. maybe someday your side of the story will finally be heard. until then, you can convince yourself that being hated is safer anyway.

"Ever the persistent one..." Embla muttered under her breath, Askr had always been optimistic and overbearingly so, but... it was a strangely nice sentiment. Despite the holiday of being about mortals celebrating their untimely deaths- their lives. Askr chose to spend such a night... with her. Not the prince and princess, not the other heroes he'd become so fond of, but her. She could have retracted her hand at any moment with enough force or a simple zap of some sort of pinch or magic, but she let the divine dragon have his ways.

"How is it... that you chose me to spend the New Year with?" The god asked, turning her eyes up towards him, he'd always been much taller than her. Just the way it was with everything.

"Don't waste your wish on me. If these hopeless mortals' wishes truly do come true, they should use theirs to wish for longer lives. Making use of the time they have is pointless when all of them will eventually perish and none remain. For a god to make a wish similar to the ways that humans do... I will not do it. I am separate from them. I do not need to follow their traditions. I am well aware there's a good chance that I will spend this year just the same as every other. With Elm and-" She paused, interrupted by her own thoughts and desires. Embla could never tell Askr such delicate matters. She wouldn't reveal her denial in such obvious ways, either.

"If I were to wish for something," The white haired woman spoke, softening for even just a moment, "I would want things to be different." She admitted, finding no point in fighting him for much longer. She made a small hmph, before the night sky caught her red and gray eyes. A cold breeze blew through the air, though she was used to such temperatures, she wondered if the cow god would freeze.

FIRST MEETING SENTENCE STARTERS | Open

Embla glanced only for a moment at the professor before her eyes fell to the object she had indeed lost earlier. The goddess was quick to snatch it from the hands that were not meant to hold such a thing. "Do not expect anything from me for returning my possession."

She expected the teacher to want something, all humans did. This human would be no better. There was no power she would grant another one of those wasteful and greedy mortals. Her response had been so needlessly made with haste, she had no time to linger but those eyes from the other person kept staring... with no expression.

"What is it? I can't continue on my way until you leave," The detached god bitterly asked. Stopped in her tracks, Embla knew there was no way to continue in a hurry. Instead, she looked back at her almost forgotten ring. This was a key to her plans. Something she'd found that she wanted to take with her when the summoner inevitably got tired of the darkling god and abandoned her. The bat couldn't believe she'd almost lost it. That was out of character for her. Now someone else knew about it. Damned claws... she thought, blaming them easily for her loss of the magical metal.

"Cherry will be fine," Embla stated, she didn't much care for the information about who was making the teas nor was she going to. That would defeat the entire purpose of being disconnected from everyone and yet... she was going to let Askr fetch her tea. She'd much rather either do it herself or have Elm do it, but there was no way Askr wouldn't insist until he did it. So she let him.

"I will never understand you. I am aware I may be your earliest acquaintance, but I have spent years in my darkness detracting from any events that may involve you. I do not see why you would rather spend time with me than someone like Ash who would love your time. In case you don't remember-" The darkling god stopped herself short, she knew just like every other time she stated such things, there was no way through to Askr about her true intentions. How she really felt. But she wouldn't tell him, either. Not until she found out more about what happened before they were summoned here.

Embla put some distance between them, her red eyes refused to meet his for now. Deep in thought, she felt a little frustrated trying to figure it all out.

"We haven't the chance to chat casually like this in quite some time. I feel rather fortunate to have this chance to be with you again, that's all. There's nothing more pressing or important to me than reminding you that you're not alone." Their fight was over. The kingdoms they blessed long ago could live together in relative harmony, now. To Askr, that meant there was no reason to fight, or bicker. Especially since they had been summoned.

"Come now, Embla. Won't you let me have the pleasure of staying with you a bit longer? I still think I can find that old you in there somewhere - I'm certain of it. Perhaps all you need is some time...time I shall spend at your side, making sure you're alright." The god of Askr had a way of...imposing. Accidentally, of course. He'd never intentionally make his old friend unhappy with him.

"That is all I want. Perhaps I could convince you to chat with me over some tea? Or...coffee? I believe they have that too, if you'd prefer."

“I’ve told you before, Askr, that person you know is gone.” Embla didn’t want to give him the light of day when it came to his attempts to revive how she used to be. She firmly believed that the god she used to be couldn’t be further from dead. She didn’t even want to remember how she used to be, either. Such memories… hurt.

“I guess I can’t get rid of you now… to think you’d still want to try that after all these years. I’m fine. I don’t need you to check on me.” While Askr used to be an old friend of hers and he had to coax her in the first place to interact with humans. Them and their short, pitiful lives.

“And I’m not fretting. If anything, you are,” The dark god started before stopping herself short, finding it useless to continue. She sighed, grumbling, “Do you think they have fruit teas?”
