Een beetje ervaren procesoperator kent op een gegeven moment zijn werkgebied beter dan de ingenieurs die de veelal computergestuurde machines ontwikkeld en geplaatst hebben. Het is meer regel dan uitzondering dat procesoperators verbeteringen in de routing van het proces weten aan te brengen.
