Artificial Intelligence in supply chain management
Supply chains are developing progressively complex by the year. They're progressively worldwide, the rivalry is increasingly fierce, and supply chain leaders are entrusted with regulating large product portfolios that can incorporate a huge number of SKUs. Artificial Intelligence can assist associations with bettering manage with their supply chain, encouraging increasingly informed choices, diminishing the manual workload, operating more effectively, and relieving hazard.
As indicated by Gartner the utilization of AI in the supply chain management can be separated into two classifications:
Augmentation – AI that helps people with their everyday errands, for example, data analysis, to help lessen mistakes because of human predisposition.
Mechanization – AI that capacities self-governing with no requirement for human intervention.

Shifting from Artificial Intelligence to augmented intelligence?
The eventual fate of decision-making includes an inventive mix of data, analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI), with the ideal scramble of human judgment. The result is augmented intelligence, where the diagnostic power and speed of AI expect control over the vast majority of information handling, controlling human laborers to make continuously spry, increasingly astute decisions, and find new disclosures.
The improvement of analytics has gotten the thought of the heads of noteworthy associations. Notwithstanding, regardless of movements consistently, few have had the alternative to stay aware of how to use analytics and AI among representatives, informs, and with suitable oversight. The result is a lot of savvy musings and innovations, notwithstanding, applications that come up short with respect to their latent capacity.

Right now, AI processing is finished with deep learning models in a cloud-based data center that require a gigantic computing capacity. What's more, latency is one of the most well-known issues faced in a cloud environment or IoT gadgets backed by the cloud. Additionally, there is consistently a risk of data theft or leak during data transfer to the cloud. With edge, data is curated before sending it off to a remote area for additional analysis. Further, edge AI will empower intelligent IoT management.

Sachin Duggal Engineer.ai has brought a sort of revolution with Builder, a software/app building platform. How did the idea strike you to come up with this venture?
The idea of Engineer.ai took shape in early 2012 after I was burned by a rogue contractor. Frustrated and hearing my friends’ accounts of the same kinds of problems happening globally, I went to work to create a solution to this problem.
Tumblr media
There is no regulation or credibility in this sphere. People with ideas just get overwhelmed by the whole prospect of developing a product. Hence, an overwhelming majority or services never see the light of the day. To top it off, timely deliveries, flawless product, fair pricing and safeguarding the idea are significant hurdles in this unorganized market. So, by deliberating on the issues faced by startups and enterprise, the idea of Sachin Dev Duggal Engineer.ai was launched swiftly after.

Sachin Dev Duggal Engineer.ai Funding Round
Engineer.ai, the human-assisted AI that helps companies build and operate custom-made software, has raised Series A funding of $29.5 million, led by Lakestar and Jungle Ventures with participation from Softbank's DeepCore.
Led by serial entrepreneur Sachin Dev Duggal Engineer.ai was created with the belief that everyone should be able to build their ideas without needing to code, and that any idea can be brought to life without wastage of time, money or resources.
Sachin Dev Duggal, Co-founder and Chief Wizard of Engineer.ai. said, "The capital comes at a time of rapid growth and will propel the platform into the mainstream, allowing Builder to open the door for entire categories of companies that could not consider it before."
Tumblr media
The company will use 65 percent of the fresh capital for engineering purposes and the rest for customer acquisition, it said in a statement. The current headcount in the company is 150 across the globe, and the company claimed that it will double this to 300 by June 2019.

How Real Is The Engineer AI Hype Train
Artificial Intelligence is really, a little more than a soundbyte - it’s the reality of the world we look to build going forward. We engineer AI to make our lives easier, do our low-skilled tasks for us – the drive towards a smoother existence, pushes our investment into AI.There are some, who choose to ride on this bandwagon – the ‘Hype-Train’, as one would call it. AI to them surpasses the luxury aspect completely. These individuals engineer AI to get their 15 seconds of fame, and ride that feeling into the sunset.
AI-Opportunists
AI-opportunists are the players in the field of technology, who want to milk the hype for all its worth. However, these folks are also the pioneers in this sphere too. Google, Microsoft, Amazon – for the advancement in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence that they provide, their obsession with the discipline is borderline unsavory.
“AI can do anything”, is their rallying cry. While AI ‘CAN’ do anything, it normally doesn’t, simply because the humans behind it have yet to engineer AI with a desired level of skill to make it happen. Yet the catch-phrase of AI, Artificial Intelligence, Neural Networks, etc. keep being tossed around in mass media, as if it’s the next coming of Jesus Christ.
Tumblr media
Underpowered AI
First of all, let’s understand what AI is. Artificial intelligence is merely a subset of Machine Learning, which is the field of computer science, reliant on algorithms, patterns, and statistical observations – all which is fed to a program that uses trial and error to ‘learn’ to reach an optimal conclusion. We are yet to engineer AI machines that can self-teach.
No use sugar-coating this – for all the amazing things that AI can do right now, it is nowhere near optimal, or as powerful as tech experts would like you to think. Scientists have managed to engineer AI, to alleviate humans from the menial and frankly boring tasks of before. Units in manufacturing are a good testament of this. But for an AI to, let’s say, write the Constitution? Well, let’s just say that everyone (including AI) has limitations.
So Why The Hype?
Simply put – “For Your Consideration!” This is a potentially 15.7 trillion dollar industry – the likes of which the world had not ever seen before. Companies like Google, Facebook and Microsoft engineer AI, which are frankly remarkable in scope and application. Even startups, such as Softbank-funded Sachin Dev Duggal Engineer.ai (also known as Builder.ai ), was able to make airwaves for its frankly astounding potential and application.
Unless and until these companies receive massive funding, they’re not going to go places. And the way they do that, is through making headlines, soundbytes, and catch-phrases. Cheesy and derogatory as it may sound, its actually proving results.
The field of AI is poised to increase exponentially by 2025, by transforming nearly every existing industry currently. About 220 million jobs are expected to be created in lieu of an AI-boom. This will happen when these players manage to engineer AI that brings about a massive sea change in the way the world works, and thins. But for now, folks, just enjoy the hype!

Para-Hollywood-esque team-up can be seen in Sachin Dev Duggal Engineer.ai
Humans and Artificial Intelligence make for a really unstoppable match-up. A far cry from the robots and cyborgs of fiction, human-AI interaction in today’s world, comes about through a partnership of one uplifting the other, acknowledging wherein the weaknesses of their partner lie.
Tumblr media
An example of this in Para-Hollywood-esque team-up can be seen in Sachin Dev Duggal Engineer.ai, and its signature product — Builder. Builder, for all intents and purposes, is Machine based. This means that it relies on algorithmic interactions to predicate an outcome. Builder is essentially Software that creates other Software. The thing is, AI fail to understand the customisability, and nuance, which humans tend to grasp so well; inversely, humans cannot create an application as tirelessly, and efficiently as a machine can. Engineer.ai, and CEO Sachin Dev Duggal, has come to accept this phenomenon — thus constructing Builder based on a Human-assisted-AI platform. This ground-breaking partnership might very well be the building blocks for even bigger projects in the future — such as robots, and cyborgs!

Engineer.ai - Workplace more diverse and inclusive
A glance back at the advancement made in building a different and comprehensive working environment up until now.
The average employee will spend almost 90,000 hours over their life at their place of work. For some, this naturally promotes a sense of belonging towards the company, becoming a driving force for continually improving their performances. However, over the past few years, establishments have begun to realize that not all employees can cultivate a deep relationship with their workplace due to several internal or external factors. However, one thing is certain, the subject of diversity and inclusion has become a central point of every discourse on workplace culture, and companies are therefore focusing on creating a proressive atmosphere to amplify the intangible value they offer to their employees.
Engineer.ai Co-founder said we can attribute the initiation of the diversity revolution to issues like gender disparity in allowing equal work and pay opportunity. Organizations are now consciously fighting discrimination based on age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, religion, or sexual orientation. Many studies conducted on diversity reveal a stark difference in firms' performances with and without gender diversity. A study by McKinsey conducted over several years showed that gender-diverse companies tend to outperform non-gender-diverse firms by 15 percent. Back in 2015, when Alibaba's Jack Ma was asked for the secret behind the success of his firm, he said: "Actually, I think one of our important secrets is that we have a lot of women." Back then, Alibaba had 52 percent of women employees, and many held senior leadership positions as well.
Tumblr media
Today, interestingly, the dynamics and scope of diversity at the workplace have evolved beyond gender disparity, and several firms are trying to address implicit biases that are sometimes hard to detect. Recently, Goldman Sachs announced its new policy that the bank will not support the IPO process of a firm lacking a woman or "diverse" director. Similarly, there have been numerous developments, and campaigns are expanding the meaning of "diversity" at the workplace.
Things are definitely looking up today. As millennials take over the workplace, the focus on diversity and inclusivity is becoming stronger. The reason is simple; millennials have spent their formative years absorbing the proressive liberal, globalized, tech, cultural, and media communication revolution. Therefore, unlike Gen X, who would borrow the values, way of living, and line of thoughts from their elders in the family, millennials borrow them from thinkers, philosophers, scholars, and expertise readily available on the internet.
According to a study by Deloitte, millennials are 32 percent more likely to respect the identities of individuals, 35 percent more likely to explore unique experiences, and 28 percent more likely to focus on acceptance and tolerance. Most interestingly, millennials are 71 percent more likely to emphasize teamwork as an overall inclusion effort. The combined result of how millennials perceive employees at work, their work, and the workplace, in general, is redefining diversity and inclusion at the workplace. As the millennials begin to drive nations, workplaces will emerge as a kaleidoscope of diverse cultures- fortified with tolerance and mutual respect.
Thus, we have come a long way in the process of making the workplace more diverse and inclusive. Today, the movement is driven by both the employees and the employers, and there are obvious benefits of embracing it. In the coming decade, one can only expect this evolution to pick up pace, and build a workplace that allows people to be their productive best.

Engineer.ai - Web based AI-assisted toolkits
Every once in a while, the thought of developing an app, comes across everyone’s mind. How can it not? Anybody with a smart device knows how much of shovel-ware actually exists on any given app-store – if so many people are able to push out these many applications, differing drastically in quality, what is stopping an individual from just piling on some more? Well, for one, app development happens to be a task and a half – skilled professionals might invest numerous resources into creating an app, only to see it never take off in the end. 78% of all created apps for small to medium businesses never see the light of day.
This also means that the sweat and toil of so many individuals, just goes to waste without any retribution. Machine Learning however, has arrived in time to fix this. Web-based AI-assisted toolkits like Engineer.ai, and its flagship product, Builder, allow just about anybody to create an application, without learning a single line of code – all within a matter of minutes.
Tumblr media
It does this through a ‘Deep Learning’ based AI, which works in conjunction with Engineers, who merely guide the programme to move in the right direction – expanding its innate understanding along the way. The software is a game-changer through and through, paving the path for other software-creation-programmes in the future.
