Who is Mark Victor Hansen? Mitzi Perdue spoke with many of the important people who inspired Mark Victor Hansen along the way and to those with whom he made a true difference in their lives. It’s hard to imagine one man able to conquer so many mountains. He did it by never letting any obstacle get in his way and by inspiring others to make a difference in the world around them. His story is exceptional, but it is his extraordinary perseverance and generosity that led to his long-term success. Mitzi Perdue is a meticulous writer who captures the essence of Mark with true stories from his life, both humorous and poignant. These stories are inspiring and amazing in showing the tenacity of one man who learned early in his life, in order to receive, first you must give. "Why don't they get it...?" (leading people can feel very difficult)
John has built a successful small business up from the ground employing about ten people. It is his greatest achievement and he is very proud – but his team doesn’t seem to share this. John is struggling hard to keep on top of all the work and manage the team. He wants so much to instill responsibility and ownership within his team members so that they can share in the potential of the business. No matter what he has tried, his team remains resolutely in a state of apparent ‘learned-helplessness’. John wonders how it got like this? Does being the leader in a small business always have to feel like this?
Is this you?
Do you feel that being a leader means packing away your personal values? Do you feel that you’re having to do the thinking for each of your employees or that you’re going to be ‘found-out’ as the imposter that you secretly believe yourself to be, or that you have to steel yourself for the working day ahead?
It doesn’t have to be like that!
Leadership can be one of the most enlightening and positive experiences of life! Leadership can see you achieve wonderful things together with your colleagues. Leadership performed well can definitely improve everyone’s lives.
I believe great leaders are enlightened to the value that being their genuine selves at all times brings the ability to inspire and lead others. I believe that great leaders are consciously aware of the need to be the best version of themselves they can be – their highest selves.
Do you feel that way too? Let me know what you think makes the best leader in the comments below

"Do I have to lose myself in order to lead effectively?"
Jane is in her first leadership role. She thought she would love it; it is what she has worked so hard for – this promotion was meant to be her greatest achievement. But the day to day reality of leading her team isn’t feeling like that. In fact, Jane is beginning to wonder how she can reconcile what she feels is important in life with how her employer expects her to behave like. Jane is beginning to think that she has to choose between sacrificing herself and keeping the job or losing it. How did it get like this? Does it always have to feel like this?
Is this you?
Do you feel that being a leader means packing away your personal values? Do you feel that you’re acting out a leadership role that isn’t you, that you’re going to be ‘found-out’ as the imposter that you secretly believe yourself to be, or that you have to steel yourself for the working day ahead?
It doesn’t have to be like that!
Leading people doesn't have to feel like self-sacrifice.
Leadership can be one of the most enlightening and positive experiences of life! Leadership can see you achieve wonderful things together with your colleagues. Leadership performed well can definitely improve everyone’s life.
But many leadership training courses miss the most fundamental foundation stones of how to become a great leader – they forget that great leaders bring themselves wholly and fully to the role. The statistics on the long-term effect of leadership courses demonstrate the inherent weakness – only 5% of the new-learning is still being acted upon six months afterwards.
We believe that great leaders do not separate themselves from their leadership. We believe great leaders are enlightened to the value that being their genuine selves at all times – not just at home – brings to their ability to inspire and lead others. We believe that great leaders are consciously awake to the need to be the best version of themselves they can be – their highest selves.
Do you feel that way too? Put a comment in the box below to tell me about it.

Are You on the Yellow Brick Road?
Looking For The Route To Enlightened Leadership?
What can the story ‘The Wizard Of Oz’  teach us about developing Enlightened Leadership?
I’m sure you are familiar with the children’s story The Wizard Of Oz - when a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy and her dog, Toto, are blown away inside their house to the magical land of Oz. In order to find their way home, Dorothy and Toto follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City. They hope that they will find the Wizard who will tell them how to get home. On the way, they meet a Scarecrow that needs a brain, a Tin Man who is missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who needs courage.
At the end of her adventure when Dorothy finally finds her way home she discovers that she had the answer within herself all the time but had focussed exclusively on her external search to learn the answers.
I’ve met many people who have passed the responsibility for their personal or professional development and enlightenment to others. They read many development books and attend lots of courses but are extremely disappointed with the outcome. They consistently blame the author or the trainer for their lack of progress.
Becoming an Enlightened Leader requires you to take radical responsibility for your way of thinking, your emotions, and your behaviours. You are the common denominator – you take yourself into every situation from the moment you are born until you die. If you want things to be different – it is for you to take charge of your development and you have to make changes. Awareness is the first step but without consistent action, nothing will change.
Can courses or programmes help? They can act as the catalyst but they can’t do the inner work for you.
I don’t have all the answers for you – I do have the answers that worked brilliantly for me and I can help evoke the thinking which will help you find the answers which are right for you, to access your inner road map. Enlightened Leadership means accessing your own uniqueness and having the confidence to step into your genuine power, to have a voice and to use it to make a positive difference in the world – to leave a positive, living legacy.

Be An Enlightened Leader!
What does it really mean to be an Enlightened Leader?
We are currently surrounded at every stratum of society by examples of leadership which is anything but enlightened. The cost of poor leadership is high and far-reaching and affects us all. It is time for a change, a paradigm shift is required if we are to stem the tsunami of stress, depression, and anxiety which is being created as a result of leadership which is based on ego, division, and fear.
Enlightened leaders lead with integrity, compassion, and heart. They have done the deep inner work on themselves and know themselves well. They have mastered their inner thoughts and emotions and are honest with themselves. They know their strengths and understand that personal development is a life- long activity and are thoroughly engaged in self-reflection and ongoing growth. Enlightened Leaders recognise the power of creativity and intuition and harness both. They know that intentions alone – however purposeful they maybe - are not enough, they engage in purposeful action and achieve the desired results but do this with integrity.
Enlightened Leaders understand that to lead others successfully you must first lead yourself. They know it is important to achieve self-mastery, to develop the awareness and the capacity to consistently walk your talk and embody the principles and behaviours you want from others.
Enlightened Leaders recognise, nurture others supporting them so that they fulfill their potential. They have a strong sense of purpose and wish to make a positive difference.
The journey to Enlightenment is challenging – no one can do the inner work for you, but I can share with you my journey, the principles and strategies I used myself and have since shared with others to get to the answers and to achieve success.
So, what does Enlightened Leadership mean to you? Please join and share your thoughts in The Enlightened Leadership Linked In Group: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/12289190/

The #1 characteristic of a great leader:
INTEGRITY.  Everything else is secondary - don't you think?
The word integrity has evolved from the Latin adjective “integer” which means whole or complete.
Integrity means following your moral or ethical convictions and doing the right thing in all circumstances, even if no one is watching you. Having integrity means you are true to yourself and would do nothing that demeans or dishonours you.
What is your definition of integrity?
What does integrity mean to you? Integrity is a core value but there are many values that fit under the umbrella of integrity – trust, respect, honesty, transparency for example. How do the behaviours of someone who demonstrates high levels of integrity differ from those who don’t?
How do you know you are being treated with integrity?
Every one of us has experienced how it feels to be on the receiving end of behaviour which lacks integrity. For over thirty years I have been involved in developing leadership at every level. One of the questions I have asked many times is ‘What qualities make a great leader?’ Participants often hesitate when answering, however when I have asked them to identify what makes a poor leader there are is no shortage of responses. Lack of integrity is the most common answer but it is in no way a simple one.
Integrity requires high levels of self-awareness and inner strength as demonstrating integrity means doing what is right even when it is not easy. It means speaking your truth and being authentic but doing it in a respectful and compassionate way. It means being true to your word and walking your talk. It requires you to engage in an ongoing process of self-reflection and personal development, to be the master or mistress of your beliefs, thoughts, and emotions and to take 100% responsibility for the choices you make.
When we behave or are treated in a way that is at odds with our sense of integrity it creates a significant sense of dis – ease.  This lack of ease with our situation leads to stress, unhappiness, anxiety, and depression, it has a significant impact on our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing.
Leadership without integrity has a far-reaching and negative impact – the answer is the development of Enlightened Leaders who lead by example and who lead with integrity, compassion, and courage.
