“It is an odd game,” Castiel agreed. He didn’t understand why humans would put themselves in danger like that, fun or not. There were much safer ways of having fun, like board games and Netflix, and lots more that he’d never tried, he was sure. But why not give it a try? A fall from that height would do no damage to him, and he supposed it would be a good idea for him to stick around in case the woman did get hurt, anyway. That way he’d be around to heal her. It would greatly minimise the danger. “Alright. I’ll give it a try.” He frowned slightly, letting her lead the way. “You have a lot of hair. It seems awfully impractical.
“It’s just as odd as everything else around here. I’ve never seen a place so brightly lit or loud.” Stopping at the ladder leading up to the platform, Rapunzel dropped most of her hair, keeping a couple of yards for what she was about to do. “And then I saw this thing and it reminded me of my home. I never thought of jumping out the tower window though.” Giving the man’s comment about her hair a smile, Rapunzel sent the ends of her hair flying up, up, up with a practiced throw. It cleared the top rung of the ladder and slipped down the other side, returning to her. “Sometimes it is; like in the jungle back on that planet. Some of those plants stowed away in my hair! Didn’t even realize it until the ship was leaving. Most of the time, however,” she paused to twist the ends of her hair around one hand and grabbing the hair nearest her head with the other before adding, “it’s easier to get places quickly.” Pulling herself up, she reached the top of the ladder hardly ten seconds after leaving the ground. Peeking over the edge, she called down to the man, “Look out below!” Sending the ends of her hair back over the edge, she watched it land next to him. “Grab a hold, I’ll pull you up.”

“you haven’t?” andy asked, raising a brow. “i’ve seen tons of dumps. there used to be this pit by my ex’s place and people used it to throw their trash. i fell in there one, trying to toss garbage in it, and broke both my legs.” he explained, laughing softly at the memory. “it’s not that it’s bad, it’s just like… run down, i guess. does that make sense?”
“I didn’t get out much.” The expressions on Rapunzel’s face gradually resembled a sort of confused horror the more then man spoke. “Why would anyone use the dump to throw away their garbage? That’s terrible! I don’t usually say things like this but- but you probably deserved it. Treating a dump like it’s a place to put your trash. I’m really beginning to see what my mother meant when she warned me about the world outside.” Exasperated now, Rapunzel looked around the site again, not sure she cared to see what the man apparently did. “Run down? I... guess it could if I didn’t see things differently. I see attention to detail and a lot of care put into it all. Just because it might be run down doesn’t mean it’s bad.”

Castiel had been looking around, investigating the ship further, and he’d made a mental note to bring Jack to the arcade at some point. It seemed like something he might enjoy. Dean, too, if he’d been here, but he tried not to allow himself to linger on that. His best friends may not have been here, but he was blessed to have his son. Or, well, perhaps blessed was the wrong word. Thankfully, he didn’t have to try for too long, the sound of a woman’s voice catching his attention. Brow furrowed, he stepped towards the net and looked up. Had she fallen all of that way? Worried for her, he reached for the net and pulled it down, offering her a hand. “Are you injured?” he questioned, concerned. “Can you move?”
Jumping down from the net with a thank you to the man for helping, Rapunzel soon looked surprised by his questions. “Injured?” Looking up to the top of the tower she had been standing on a few minutes ago, she realized what he meant. Oh! No, I’m fine! I jumped on purpose. It’s a game. I thought it was an odd game at first too but now I know it kind of feels like flying.” A bashful smile appeared on her face and she corrected herself, “Not that I know what flying is like. I’ve only ever dreamed of it but I like to think it’s similar except without the falling and the net.” Turning back to said net, Rapunzel hurried to gather her hair in her arms so the next person could take their turn. “Would you like to try it? I’m going back up myself.”

<TONY - OPEN STARTER>
Tony paused mid-step in the corridor as a rustle and a blur of motion caught his attention.
“Did anyone just see that … little furry thing go past? Or was it just me? Did just get into the air vents? Because I thought they didn’t allow pets onboard.”
Moving towards the vent, he peered in, trying to see if he could locate it. “Unless we have a rat problem. Please tell me we don’t have a rat problem. Or a space rat problem.”
“Pets aren’t allowed. While I don’t know what exactly it is, I do know it’s a stowaway and there’s more than one on board with us. Space rat might just be the most accurate thing I’ve heard so far. I’ve seen them everywhere since returning to the ship. Honestly, it’s like the tr- New York City around here lately and it was bad enough before these things showed up. I just hope we don’t land on another planet with things that can and will cut down the amount of passengers the ship has.”

<TENTH DOCTOR - OPEN>
“No, you really shouldn’t be in here,” the Doctor said, staring down the little furry creature. “We do need to find out where you’re from – you can’t be a native of the planet that we just left. Now, if I just had my TARDIS, we’d have you relocated in a giffy, but–”
Glancing up as he realised that someone was talking to him, he give a smile and a little wave. “Oh, hello! Didn’t see you there. I was just having a chat with our little friend here - I don’t suppose you know where they’re from?”
“I- I just asked you that. Guess it’s a no for both of us.” Peggy may have appeared annoyed at being overlooked but it was the complete opposite. Some things really never changed and for now, that was good. Kneeling down near the man, Peggy couldn’t hold back the smile that gradually appeared. “Whatever this... friend is, it’s already much nicer than anything on the planet we landed on. I’ve never seen anything like it before.”

“It’s only a matter of time until the game makers get tired of waiting and add something to the game that is going to get rid of everyone once and for all. I know it sounds bad but that’s what they do. That’s what they’ve always done. I was stupid to actually believe it was over. That planet we were just on had plants that could devour us. The longer I’m on this ship or whatever this thing actually is, the more I’m sure this is just another arena. It’s so elaborate that at first I could almost convince myself it was really a ship but I should have known better than to underestimate people who-”
She stopped short when a quick movement caught her attention. Just as quickly, the thing that she spotted had an arrow run through it and Katniss could do nothing but stare at the small... whatever it was she had just killed. Her hand around the bow was visibly shaking from how tight she had it in her grip and she looked like she wanted to cry. She did want to cry. Immediately after the arrow had snapped free from the bow, she realized her mistake but it was too late. If she was so on edge about a small animal that she could tell wasn’t vicious, what would she do to people if she reacted to them the same way, being caught off guard and not thinking properly about what to do? “I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to be around me. You’ll be safer if you stay away.”

“How unusual.” The Doctor musing out loud to himself wasn’t unusual but the small aliens had much the same effect on him as the massive ship did. Both seemed to be trying to remind him of something important. “How very unusual... oh, not you! I didn’t even see you until this very moment.” As rude as his assurance may have sounded, it was genuine even though his focus was quick to return to the scurrying ball of what appeared to be fur that was circling his feet. Scooping the thing up without fear, he suddenly held it out to the other person. “Have you ever seen anything like this? It’s fascinating, isn’t it? I dare say it’s even more fascinating than when I realized I had feet and could run wherever I wanted to go.”

“I’ve never seen anything like this.” Rapunzel looked around the room she was in, careful not to move her feet much so she wouldn’t step on the many tiny creatures nearly blocking the floor from view. Whatever they were, she felt much better having them around than the scary plants on the planet the ship finally left behind. She wanted to forget mother’s word of warning about the world outside the tower and it seemed with the discovery of the fluffy things scurrying around, she was beginning to let go of the fear that mother was right and she really would have been better off staying home. “Do you know what they are?”

She did it. She survived the drop tower in the arcade. Why was the drop tower considered fun? Rapunzel couldn’t do much more than try to get her bearings after free falling thirty-five feet to the net below. Watching her hair drift down to the net much slower than she fell, Rapunzel began to smile. Maybe it was a little bit fun. Realizing she wanted to go again, Rapunzel tried, unsuccessfully, to get off the net. “Can someone help me down, please?”

What kind of place didn’t have fish fingers and custard? A place the Doctor didn’t want to be, but that was exactly where he was. Sat looking anywhere except at the sad meal before him, he caught a glimpse of another person with red hair and almost smiled. Everyone with red hair was always going to remind him of Amy. Knowing Rory was impossibly on board only served to give him hope that it was actually her. That same person was seen by him again barely ten seconds later and his eyes went wide. Suspicion propelled him from where he sat and he expertly weaved through the other passengers milling around to get to the red head.
“Amy.” So much seemed packed into that single word. How was she here? When was she picked up? He missed her a lot. He smiled. “Can you believe fish fingers and custard never caught on?”

“i never thought i’d say this, but plants are canceled.” - ( @enouementiisms ) billy to peter !
peter made a grumbling sort of noise before nodding, “yeah, you said it - ” he turned to face the other and gave him a small smile, “and i’m a biochemist, i work with plants.” well, sort of. he shrugged it off before turning to face the plants once more as they crept about and seemingly searched for a person to snag. “ever thought about trying to turn around and just walk away from this and hope that nothing bad ever happens because you walked away? or is that me thinking far too much about this?”
“If I coulda walked away hoping that, I would’ve. Instead, I had the joy of experiencing first hand what it’s like to be devoured by one of those giant plants out there. I remember everything. I’m never going to get over it.” Even with his powers, and despite his humorous tone, Billy was pretty sure he would have embarrassing moments in the future whenever he would see another plant. The ridiculousness of being scared of a plant was not lost on him at all. Patting the other guy on the back out of sympathy, Billy added, “Hope the plants you’re studying don’t turn on you.”

“What? What are you looking a- what the heck is that thing? I don’t remember seeing anything like that on the planet we were on.” Billy wasn’t sure if he should back away from it slowly, or quickly, or stay where he was. Powering up definitely wasn’t the right thing to do this time he figured, because what he was sure of was that he didn’t want to spook whatever that furry creature was that he was staring at. “Is it just me or does it remind you of a gremlin? Please say it’s just me. Those movies gave me nightmares and after encountering plants that nearly succeeded in eating me, I really don’t want to find out gremlins are real too.”

a part of him wanted to simply say ‘okay bye’ but the more kinder side knew to take the approach his brother’s would have. “to be honest with you, isn’t everyone bothering everyone at some point? what i mean is, you’re not really bothering me and if i come off annoyed i’m sorry, that’s just my default.” he added with a small smile before leaning himself against the wall of the ship. “it’s fine, like i said; been through worse.” which was true - a crack on the head by a pan was a lot nicer than a crowbar to the everything. “i’m more concerned about you, are you okay?”
There he went again, saying something that caused Rapunzel to slip from cloud nine. She was sure he didn’t know he was doing that. She had, after all, been so carefully kept safe in the tower her entire life. It would surprise Rapunzel if anyone knew how she processed things without any influence from the world outside. The sort of whiplash she was currently experiencing kept her quiet for a bit too long but she was trying to work out how he seemed so similar to Mother one moment and the next was completely throwing her off that track. She couldn’t recall ever being asked if she was okay. Given how she was raised, she didn’t begin to consider that she should at least have been shown that level of concern by the woman who raised her. She did, however, remember what she was constantly warned of: never let anyone know about her power. When she did speak again, it wasn’t to answer him; at least not directly. Strands of hair threaded through her fingers, she spoke softly in an effort to keep what she was about to admit to between herself and the man she attacked with a pan. “I can heal it... if you’ll let me?” If her mother could hear her now, Rapunzel was sure she would be shut up in the tower for the rest of her life hearing non stop the danger of people like the man... the nice, not scary at all, man standing before her. Her resolve strengthened. “I’ll be okay as long as I can help.”

Rory was running about the infirmary trying to take care of all the sick people. He was working overtime and was exhausted, but he had to do it. They needed him. “Right, so how did you get injured in the meteor shower? Or were you injured before?”
Hearing a familiar voice was one thing for the Doctor, when he spent most of his time talking to vocal recreations of old companions that his dear T.A.R.D.I.S. created for him. Seeing one of those old companions was- well, it also wasn’t entirely unusual for the same reason. He looked the incredibly life-like figure of Rory Pond over carefully only for his eyes to light up at the joy he felt when he realized Rory was the best kind of life-like. “Rory! You’re real!” The Doctor scrambled up out of the chair he’d been offered so he could greet the man properly only for the injury he sustained in the collision to catch up with him and take him down. Not letting it dampen his spirits, the Doctor looked back up to Rory with a laugh. “Word to the wise. Never be a pilot on a space ship meant for more than six. It was chaos. Flashing lights everywhere and a wonderful view of Nature versus Machine. You should have been there!”

“alright!“ jack clapped his hands together as he descended from the ship, giving a quick frown at the state of it before turning to face the lush green planet. “am i the only person here who seems to think that this is a little on the nose with the whole ‘it seems harmless but it’s really not’ thing? just me? okay,“ he turned to face the nearest person listening to him, offering his hand and winking with a grin, “captain jack harkness, at your service.“
The Doctor had taken to following people he deemed interesting around the ship. Most of the people weren’t taking well to being followed but that wasn’t putting a stop to it. He knew he didn’t mean any thing bad by it at least. Still, it was a bit of a surprise when the latest person the Doctor was trailing after turned and greeted him kindly. “Jack Harkness! What a pleasure it is to make your acquaintance! I would introduce myself but I have no idea who I am.” Enthusiastically shaking the man’s hand, the Doctor then darted around his new friend to get a better look at the ship. “That’s a real shame, isn’t it? All those asteroids damaged by this hulking monstrosity. It’s too bad, really. I keep trying to remember something important about this ship that could have helped but my brain is scrambled! At least I think it’s this ship. I could have sworn it was sad at one point.”

“I need to know I’m right,” Sherlock replied, with a shrug, but cast a critical eye over her anyway. “Correction, you work as a hunter, or a vigilante – or perhaps some kind of special operative. A soldier would be used to working in a team–”
He paused at her last statement. “What do you mean… go through this a third time?” he queried, some of the aloofness falling away at the note in her voice. Hyper-vigilance, constantly on the lookout for danger - suggesting PTSD. “As far as I can ascertain,” he offered, “Which is not inconsiderable – the Expanse Program doesn’t appear to mean us harm. If the jungle is the issue, then staying on the ship may be the better idea.”
“Life is full of disappointment and here’s some for you; you’re wrong.” The pushiness of the man in wanting to know nearly everything about her made Katniss consider going into the forest at the risk of her very life rather than spend one more second in his presence. Deadly forests, she understood. People, whether nosy or not, not so much. Attempting to get back some control, she decided not to tell him what he was wrong about only to feel as though she lost any chance of that when he went on to make it seem like she was the one that was wrong about everything. “It doesn’t mean us harm? How can you not see it’s all a trap?” Looking around to make sure no other prying ears were around, Katniss then studied the man intently as she warred with herself internally over whether or not she should say what she was thinking.
“I do work as a soldier, and I did a few times before all of this happened. Long before that, I was a hunter. Was. I’m not a hunter anymore. This program, the ship, the new planet... I know what an arena looks like. I’ve been in two of them before. I just- there was never supposed to be any more after I destroyed the last one. It’s a really long story, okay? I don’t trust any of it because the arenas are designed to kill every single person in them. It doesn’t matter how as long as it’s entertaining. No where is safe. Not the forest, not the ship. Nothing. None of it is how it looks. None of it can be trusted.”

“what kind of civilization do you think was here before this outpost was started up? why’d they need a military base?“ - ( @enouementiisms ) peggy to indy !
indy was stumped - he’d never studied extraterrestrials in his years of academics, so trying to give an answer to the woman before him proved harder than it actually should be. taking his hat off, he placed it on the counter between them and sighed, scratching at the back of his head and giving a shrug. “wish i could tell you, sweetheart but i didn’t study aliens in school.” he admitted before glancing around the outpost’s bar’s walls. “but judging by the remnants and what i do know about earth’s history; this race wasn’t particularly militaristic. whoever made this, they made it out of desperation.”
“And what if it’s a trick? The only things this planet really have in common with Earth is the air is breathable and the planet is inhabited by what we can only assume is its native species. For all we know, the species we have encountered is the reason for the desperation.” Giving up on the full glass of her own drink, Peggy faced the man. “As much as I want to believe you, the simple fact of the matter is this isn’t Earth. I can’t go around believing something I have no real proof of because there are too many other variables I am ignorant about. The main one being how this planet is so similar to Earth but at the same time is home to carnivorous plants large enough to pose a threat to us, among other things. The species here most likely developed differently from humanity and have ways of thinking and adapting that are different when compared to ours.” Glancing away for a moment, Peggy put on an embarrassed, close lipped smile. She really missed being able to talk to someone like this. Having to keep up her secretary persona much longer than she expected she’d need to when working, it was a bit too nice to let loose. She would have to do better. She didn’t need her own secret to get out. “I’m sorry about that. Sometimes I have to give it to my mother; she wasn’t wrong that I think too much for my own good.”
