the comment makes her grin, tossing her hair over her shoulder as she turns to face jocelyn, drink in hand. amusement flickers in her gaze as she cocks her head to the side, eyes straying toward where her brother plays dutiful host and entertains a group of shadowhunters. a role that was generally hers to fulfil, but she’s grateful for the little break, despite her nature as a social butterfly. she offers jocelyn another smile, shaking her head playfully at the warning. “oh please, i’ll be fine. i know how to handle myself. besides, out of all the things my mom could be told about me, i doubt this would be the worst.”

       jocelyn merely quirks at brow at the younger woman. ❝ that may be so, but i’ve never been the one having to explain things to your mother before. we may not have KEPT IN TOUCH as of late, but the maryse i know would be ready to flatten anyone who threatened her family, even indirectly. i have no intention of facing her wrath, so DON’T MAKE ME DO IT, okay ? ❞

THIS ? this is why i left you. your utter disregard for the lives of people you claim to care about. i couldn’t trust you with our daughter’s life then and i CERTAINLY can’t trust you with it now. ❞

She’s still my baby girl, I need to give my stamp of approval!” he explained, as her warm lips met his cheek. His hand found its way to her waist, pulling her a bit closer “You believe I’m cute, hm?” the sound of his voice was deeper now, as his lips moved towards hers, letting them start his next sentence, joined by a soft chuckle before the words echoed through the kitchen “You should see yourself when she doesn’t answer your calls.”

       she was laughing as he pulled her closer, eagerly accepting the kiss he bestowed her with. ❝ hey now, i’m her MOTHER ! i carried her inside me, she came out of my body. i get to be overprotective. besides, it’s not like i say anything to her. you, mister, are openly embarrassing. there’s a difference. ❞ still, there was no hint of malice to her voice. in fact, the smile only spread across her features as she spoke. ❝ are you going to be this obnoxious when JONATHAN starts dating too ? ❞

She took a deep breath. “In the time I have spent with Clary… I feel like that we have gotten close. Almost like sisters. I know she has my back and I have hers no questions asked. I want to celebrate this connection I feel with her. Possibly even become closer. ” It was unlike her to feel so nervous so she looked down a moment to collect her thoughts. “I never wanted one in the past. I figured that path was not for me until I met your daughter. Ms. Fairchild…I want to know your thoughts on and to ask your permission to ask Clary to be my Parabatai.”

Izzy smiled as she approached Jocelyn. Why was she so nervous? It was not like she was asking for her daughter's hand in marriage. No. That was Jace's job. She chuckled softly at the last thought. Whenever Jace got around to asking. "Ms. Fairchild....do you have a moment to speak privately?" The Institute was extremely busy with preparations for Alec's wedding. She could barely steal a moment for herself.
