When persistent organic pollutants are released in warmer climates, they evaporate and are carried by winds to cooler areas, where they condense and descend back to earth. They concentrate in biological organisms that ingest or inhale them, and cause a variety of problems including cancers, immune system dysfunctions, and birth defects (among others)”
