Shigaraki’s Nihilism

Shigaraki Tomura’s mindset is a difficult one to understand. So much so, even in story both heroes and fellow villains alike reject his mindset as incomprehensible and unsympathetic. He comes off to them nothing more than a brat who wants attention and is throwing a tantrum, or just a villain who is as pure as a villain as one can get, one who only exists to destroy lacking a redeemable motive like stain. 

However, the real reason Shigaraki is incomprehensible to characters in story, and even some members of the audience is because of his position as an outsider. All of the other characters in the story, inherently believe that society, their actions, their values all have meaning. Shigaraki is someone who positioned as the outsider to society, sees it all as meaningless and becomes in opposition to everything. Which is why Shigaraki finds sympathizers in his fellow outsiders, who cannot find the same meaning and place in society that everybody else does. 

“Destroy Everything” may sound like a vague cliche of a villain goal, but it can be viewed as an extension of nihilism. Shigaraki rejects, recklessly so, all moral principles that Hero Society has told him should have meaning. He is the ultimate challenge to Hero Society’s hypocrisy. I will explain more under the cut.

Dedicated to a friend as she was going through a rough time. I made it my mission to make her happy. WARNING: A bit of angst

While most of the time, you would reluctantly leave your precious bed and face the world right outside your door.

However, today was not one of those days.

You wake up feeling more tired than usual. Not a single ounce of energy in your body despite having a night’s rest. You blink. Your eyes are wet from tears.

You’re still crying.

You go to your side and curl into a ball under your blankets. You can still hear them. The voices in your head. Echoing loudly within your eardrums. The mockery. The belittling. The darkness slowly engulfing your chest, causing you agony.

You let out a quiet cry, clutching your head as your tears fall freely from your closed eyes. 

“Enough.” You say to yourself. You hold your head tighter. Close your eyes harder. “Enough. Please. Shut up… Please shut up-… Shut up-!”

You’re sobbing loudly, your body trembling. Choked cries escape your throat. 

Stop it. Shut up.

Please-

Enough-

“(Y/N)!”

A hand suddenly grabs your trembling shoulder, startling you. You could only gasp harshly as you snap your head to your intruder.

Floyd, mismatched eyes full of concern, stares back at you. His playful grin was nowhere on his face. Only worry. You sniffle, blinded by tears as your lips quiver. 

He gently cups your face with bare hands, not even in full uniform yet. He wipes your salty tears away, despite them still falling, albeit at a calmer rate. You could only stay quiet as he sits by you. Small hiccups make their way out of you as you try to calm down.

Floyd slides an arm under your neck, slowly making you sit up. He pulls you close, putting you on his lap. His arms wrapped protectively around your frame, one of his hands combing through your hair. You bury your tear-stained face on his shirt, clutching the fabric weakly as he rests his chin on top of your head. 

“Shh…My lovely pearl,” he whispers, “A pretty lady like you shouldn’t have a reason to ruin that face with tears…”

You could only let you shaky breaths as you felt a pair of soft lips press against your head. His hand cups your face again, causing you to tilt your head up. Gentle, loving kisses were peppered slowly all over your face, starting from your forehead, to your cheeks, ever so slowly, leading to your lips.

It was almost like a wave of relief wash over you. Your crying had stopped for the most part. Floyd breaks the kiss, blinking his eyes open and piercing straight into yours.

“Do you want to talk about it?” He asks, uncharacteristically soft. 

You could only answer, “Not now…”

Floyd sighs, bringing your head to rest on his chest again, “That’s fine. You can tell me when you’re ready. Just remember one thing, though…”

He leans down to your ear.

“I care about you, my darling pearl.”

hot linguistic take on Taako’s speech

I started looking into this after reading several fics featuring Taako where his speaking voice was…kind of jarring to me? Mainly in the usage of vocatives. Taako uses vocatives (my dude, homie, darling etc) but he uses them in particular ways, and they’re often very overused when people write dialogue for Taako. 

Anyway, as I started researching this, it felt a little…mean-spirited? so I stopped lol. but the more I thought about it, the more I was interested in these particular quirks of Taako’s speech and how they add to his character.
