time frame: three+ years ago, enzo finding out about lorenz.

a child. enzo beharry was going to be a father. something he never quite saw for himself, something that caused a tightening in his throat and a nauseousness tugging at his stomach. when alisha told him, he didn’t know what to do; they were just hooking up, it was just a fun time that neither of them took too seriously, they were both on the same page.. and now. and now there was a life growing inside of her, and his fingers were shaking as he went to his contacts and pressed on the only name that he could stomach at the moment.

jordan beharry. there were only two rings before he picked up, and for a minute, he struggled to find the words. he hadn’t even said it out loud yet, practically blacked out when alisha told him and he doesn’t even remember what he said to her. “j, i don’t..” he tried talking through his unstable breathing, running a hand over his face. “where are you right now? i need- i need to talk to you. something happened, i don’t. i don’t know what to do.”

Nik watched Ivy and Lorenz play together in the sand while she sat beside Enzo. They’d hit it off after their children had come out of daycare hand in hand and it hadn’t taken time for them to schedule a playdate, but now, she didn’t know if she looked forward to it more than Ivy did. “I brought snacks.” She opened a bag of sliced oranges that were for the children but there were enough for the both of them as well. Bringing one to her lips, she handed him another before wiping juices along the corner of her mouth. “I’m pretty sure half the single mother’s at our daycare hate me because they think that I’m trying to keep you all to myself.” They picked up their kids at the same time and who could blame her for wanting to flirt with the attractive single father. 

“I’m getting a lot of cold looks. I hope you’re worth it.” She teased, nudging him playfully.

if he was being honest, enzo was a bit worried that he’d get some side eyes at the daycare when he took lorenz. thankfully his looks paid off, though, and he got a different kind of attention instead.. one that he usually paid no mind to because of a certain someone in his life. but when lorenz and ivy came out best friends one day when he went to pick his son up, enzo couldn’t ignore that there was something there when he and nik hit it off instantly, and damn did ivy’s mom have it goin on; she looked good eating that little orange slice. “nah, you wanted to show off that we’re eating snacks together, nik, don’t lie,” he grins, following her lead by eating one of the orange slices. her tease made him clutch his chest as if in pain, “don’t hurt my feelings, darlin’,” and he leaned in just a bit closer, voice going just above a whisper, “i know you’re worth it.”

JUNE:

She’d never been asked that that directly and she deadpanned back, “Watched it take the light out of the man I loved. Turned me off of it.” That and it was pretty bad for her voice. She kept that part to herself though and gave him a smile when he mentioned to stand with her. Direct but kind - she liked people who were like that. A laugh came out of her lips, loud and colorful and a few heads turned. “I can’t.” She wheezed. “Raw-dogging.” Her voice was strangled as she choked or a moment before regaining composure. “It, uh, has to do with processing it. The raw isn’t processed, so you get more pollen. Good for allergies.” She shuffled to show him the watch she got for Ty. “Look at this watch I bought Ty. Each one of these lil links is handmilled outta wood. Isn’t it cool?”

his brows shot up. “loved,” with a half-formed whistle uttered knowingly, “that’s heavy shit, but i can’t say i haven’t seen alcohol ruin lives.. i’ll cheers to that when we get our drinks, yeah?” enzo nudged her lightly, glad that his question hadn’t bothered her too much. her laugh was contagious, he couldn’t help the couple of chuckles that left him as well and he gave himself a mental pat on the back for making a beautiful girl laugh. “alright, alright, i see.. they told me it was good for kids and allergies, so i got it for my boy, but to be fair i wasn’t really listening to the whole explanation when they said it. i just liked it ‘cause i thought the bees were freaky,” he explained, all with a grin that stayed throughout her showing him the watch she got. “it’s pretty impressive, i gotta say. hopefully it came with all the extra shit to make it fit him perfectly, though, unless you know his exact wrist measurement.”

It was almost embarrassing, the amount of minutes he had taken looking at the laminated piece of menu. He was stumped on what he should have, eating his first meal after officially moving in. Humming to himself, he was torn to pick either the cheeseburger or maybe something else. After all, he’s new in town and has never been in this diner, or even seen it back home. “Excuse me, what do you recommend in here?” he asked as he turned to the person beside him. Hoping a little that they wouldn’t be hostile to him as he offered them a small smile. “You see, I’m new around here and I’m afraid that I would get on a bad impression of the food around here.”

in a town where everyone knows everyone, enzo couldn’t help his slight surprise to look over when he heard a voice and not recognize who was talking to him. the question got a grin out of him, though, and his suspicions were quickly confirmed when the newcomer said he was afraid to get the wrong first impression. “don’t worry, my friend. i know exactly what you need, just wait. where you from, anyway?” and they weren’t waiting too long until his plate was on its way, enzo quick to thank the familiar waitress once it was sat down on the counter for him with a wink. “see this? it’s a cheeseburger, but you get an egg and hash browns on it. it’s breakfast and dinner all in one, and frankly.. the greatest meal i’ve ever had in my life. pair it with some fries and you got yourself a good ol’ tina’s diner dinner.”

JUNE​:

June was glancing through some sunglasses. The frames were made from wood in a local woodshop. They were high end, and she had a pair for herself and Ty, and now was looking at watches for Ty. Each link of the watch was made of wood, and she knew Ty would appreciate the craftsmanship. She selected one and started to hand over the crisp bills and offered the vendor a smile. She didn’t look like her normal self. Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail, and she was clad in crop top and yoga pants. She moved to grab a frozen drink. “Shoot, think any of these are non-alcoholic?” She asked the person in line next to her. “Otherwise I might just be cloggin’ up the line.” She gave a pause. “You find anything good here?” She was dying to show someone the sunglasses and watch she picked out.

“nope. that’s why i’m here,” enzo lets out a huff of laughter, giving the girl a once over and quirking a brow, “what, you sober or something?” not that he could judge, it’s not like he drinks much anymore now that he’s got his son anyways. but lorenz is with his mom somewhere in the crowd of vendors, and he trusts her with him enough to have a drink on his own time before meeting back up with them. “here, just wait in line with me and i’ll ask for you. only other thing i’ve gotten out here is some raw honey. s’posed to be good for you, but i didn’t know bees were out there raw dogging shit.”
