biography.
The middle child out of three, Sabiha was born and raised in Iron River. The Yazici’s were a family of modest means, but what they lacked in fortune they made up for in love and constant support. Tarik and Ceyda were incredibly devoted parents; even throughout Ceyda’s struggles with her own mental health, they made every point to give their children all they could. Sab never once reached or asked for more, but perhaps that was her problem…
Sabiha was never ashamed of her humility and agreeable nature, but she’s well aware that even the best of traits can turn into flaws. What others saw as an ability to easily take anything and everything in stride was, in fact, a product of crippling indecision and an inability to go after what she truly wanted. She’d learned early on that it was easier to just go the road most often traveled rather than try and screw things up. Besides, didn’t remaining as mild and ‘middle of the road’ as possible make life easier on everyone else?
So, that’s exactly what she did. She earned perfectly average marks in school. Wasn’t too popular, but wasn’t a social pariah, either. She graduated in the top twenty percent of her class. Applied to the local college, pursued a degree that’d afford her a stable job. A few years after completing her BSN she even went on to date a man everyone thought she’d be lucky to marry someday. Everything was on track for that two and a half kids, white picket fence life, but… inside, she was slowly dying.
Sure, her life was fine, but, again, that was her problem. She didn’t want ‘just fine’. The cracks in her carefully crafted façade of ‘middle ground’ started to show the night that perfectly nice boyfriend got down on one knee. The night she stood there, staring at the ring, and she realized… she didn’t really care. She wasn’t excited or overjoyed in the slightest at the prospect of changing her last name.
Maybe that indifference had to do with a true lack of connection in their relationship. Maybe it was just the result of how exhausted she’d grown with her perfectly average life. Either way, Sab finally came to admit the truth: no matter what she did or how hard she tried to be cooperative and complacent, she’d never truly rid herself of that restless craving for something more.
As they say, that was the beginning of the end. Sabiha left him with everything - their house, their belongings, their cars. Walking away with nothing but her own clothes and their cat, she settled into a new apartment downtown and committed herself to finally, finally figuring out what the hell she wants out of life. To chase down that which actually makes her feel alive, instead of merely ‘fine’. She still hasn’t discovered what that is yet, but with each day she gets one step closer.

name: parker armstrong
age: 25
face claim: michael evans behling
occupation: apprentice tattoo artist at jaded spades
neighborhood: the mines
gender & preferred pronouns: cismale / he/him/his
inspired by: lip gallagher ( shameless us )
biography:
growing up in the mines didn't really make things easyfor anybody. especially if you had a big family like the armstrongs. two dysfunctional parents, seven kids… it was a shock that they generally got to stay together in the long run. they'd be separated every once in a while, but their parents ( michael and lizzie ) always managed to fix things so that they could get their family back together. parker armstrong was number six out of seven, and he had a habit of making his presence known within the family. he was a troublemaker, doing whatever get rich quick scheme he could to help his family and always putting them above anything else. he ran lemonade stands with his siblings, and he also manipulated people into just giving him what he needed to get by that day. he was a master manipulator from a young age, a power that only benefitted him as he grew up.
his teenage years were definitely something. like most kids who grew up in the mines, parker was splitting his time between making money for his family and trying to succeed in school. he was a smart kid with a lack of ambition for anything resembling academics, but he had one teacher in particular who pushed him to try. that teacher knew that there were opportunities out there for guys like parker, and they were determined to make sure he wasn't another mines casualty. he didn't believe a word of it, but it was the one time someone outside of his family thought he was worth something… so he gave it a try. his grades didn't skyrocket immediately, but he did end up doing a lot better… and he ended up accepted at wiggins university on a partial scholarship.
wiggins university was a bit of a disaster for parker. he'd barely made it through high school, but college… it was a whole new level. parker struggled through the classes, but what hurt him more was the financials. he was so used to wheeling, dealing, and scheming in order to get the money he needed to survive that he needed a get rich quick scheme. parker ended up selling assignments, selling test answers, and while he attempted the tutoring gig to make it all seem legit? stupid people annoyed the absolute hell out of him. he ended up doing all he work for them and charging double. it worked for a while until one entitled iron hill kid didn't want to pay anymore. parker got turned into the dean and the zero tolerance policy got him kicked out and sent back to the mines without the degree he'd been hoping for. did he care? a little, but not as much as he probably should have. the struggle really came once he left wiggins university.
despite college not being the road for him, parker struggled to really find himself after college. he'd thought that college would come to him with all the answers of what the hell he could do with his life, and when he got that pulled out from under him ( despite it being his own fault, really ) it had shaken him. not that he showed it, god, an armstrong showing weakness? that wasn't the kind of thing that happened. but it had definitely shaken him. he ended up working at tina's for a while as a dishwasher, moonlighting as a server or a bus boy when people called in, but it wasn't at all what he wanted in his life. he didn't want to be a lifelong diner worker. he wanted to be something more. and it was clear he couldn't go the debt inducing typical route. he had to think outside the box.
art had always been something parker had been into. he'd never been able to actively pursue it because he knew art wasn't something that could make money, there were rare occasions when people thrived in it… but parker didn't think he was good enough for all of that. then he started spending time at jaded spades, slowly inking himself up and spending all his paychecks there… and then he realized something. these were artists too. these were people who loved drawing just like he did and were making a living out of it. so as he got a better relationship with the artists at the shop, he decided that he was going to risk the rejection and asked if he could possibly work there. he wanted to learn how to share his art abilities with the world, how to provide for himself by doing it… and the owner accepted him as an apprentice. so parker is now learning how to work the tattoo part of the career. he has the artist part down… now he is just working on mastering the tattoo part. and hopefully he'll fully get his own chair in the studio soon.

Name: Oakley Hall.
Age: 35.
Occupation: Private Investigator.
Neighborhood: Downtown.
Gender & Preferred Pronouns: Cis Male & He/Him.
QUICK OVERVIEW.
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa which is where he lived for all of his childhood until just shy of his 14th birthday. He always thought his parents had an idealistic marriage, until the last image of his father was through a rearview mirror after his mother had discovered his longstanding infidelity.
After a brief few months of staying with family friends, it was decided for him that he would move back to his mother’s hometown with her -- Iron River, Georgia.
It wasn’t an easy move for him, made more tumultuous by grappling with the detriments of his parents divorce that he never saw coming. That sense of being blindsided stuck with him throughout the rest of his adolescence and became something he resolved to never wanting to experience again.
His mother’s aunts often called him nosy, too much for his own good according to them, but he saw it more as being thorough. Determination isn’t in short supply for him, and after muddling through his 20s with an ever switching career path it finally clicked into place for him what he should be doing. Being a private investigator wasn’t his first choice of work, but it’s what he’s best at, even if he’s learned 10 times over it’s a thankless job.
Despite the success he’s garnered for himself with an impressive track record in his work, it’s not without its downsides. He’s burned bridges in town and scorned people who’s dirty secrets he’s brought to light at the behest of their scorned loved ones and it’s gotten him in a fair number of scrapes.
PERSONALITY.
+ easy going, friendly, reasonable.
- crafty, indecisive, emotionally aloof.
BONUS ROUND.
has been in and out of town since college because he couldn’t really settle on where the hell he wanted to be, but decided to make it his permanent home (for like the 15th time) 5 years ago and has been buzzing around since.
lives downtown now but as a teen he lived in the mines with his mother, who is still residing there. chances are, if anyone has ever left a note on your car for blocking her driveway, brought down the vibe at a street party by being overly judgemental or called the cops on you for a noise complaint, it was most likely elizabeth “karen” hall.
he has 2 great aunts who also live in the mines and have done for their whole life. world renowned gossips, will talk about anyone and their scandals all the while tutting at oakley for how he makes ends meet. he adores them. they’re the worst.
has a snake tattoo wrapping around his left forearm because its a moniker he’s gotten thrown his way more than once when he’s exposed a cheating partner and he thinks its funny. ref here and here.
has mostly lost his south african accent after so long stateside, but it does creep in at times inadvertently.
CURRENT CONNECTIONS.
vanessa gable: adolescent best friend turned high school girlfriend turned college break up turned ongoing something turned some dude’s wife. 🤠 he’s not bitter at all ab it 🤠 @rivergables
spencer mccann: the losers club but make it 2 people and make one of them actually hella cool. long-term homie, he thinks she’s the bizz. @spencermccann
SPECIFIC WANTED CONNECTIONS.
a ride or die homieeee, someone who’s always got his back
an out an out enemy, someone who wants to put a knife in his back.
in general tho, anything related to his work would be hella. ppl who’s lives he’s accidentally ruined, or inversely brought them a truth they couldn’t or wouldn’t see. doesn’t have to be your muse specifically either, could be an npc connected to ‘em but either way it could be hella fun to plot out.
half sibling!! v open ended right not but, basically is younger than him and is his father’s kid. gender/fc/personality all utp. may sub to main, may not, i’m mulling like a christmas wine on it rn but yeah. if its of any interest hmu and we can play around with it.
his mom’s (most likely one sided) adversaries that he tries to peacekeep with JHSGSHSGHJSK
WANTED CONNECTIONS.
connections wise he’s pretty much an open book right now, but some baseline ideas that can be springboarded off are:
friendly.
childhood friends / pseudo-siblings / friends / drunk friends / new friends / former roommates / folks who’ve let him couch surf / former co-workers (he’s worked a few random jobs around town i’m currently nailing down the timeline of that but will list when i have done) / former or current clients.
romantic.
flirtationship / friends with benefits / tinder matches / unrequited crush (can be either way) / exes.

“Run away, let your heart be your guide-”
Introducing...
Name: Felicity Rainer
Gender & Preferred Pronouns: Cis Female {She/Her}
Age: 34
Birthday: February 22,1988
Sexuality: Pansexual
Face Claim: Alexandra Breckenridge
Occupation: Zoologist/Wildlife Forensics Specialist
Hometown: Lancaster, PA
Neighborhood: Riverside
Character Playlist: HERE.
Up Next: “Wildflowers” by Tom Petty
Biography: TW death mention
Born in Lancaster, PA, Felicity was always in the woods. Camping, fishing, playing manhunt with the other kids or even just trying to catch frogs by the lake - Felicity was never afraid to get down and dirty. That all changed when her father passed away, leaving the two with nothing but crushing debt.
Her mother remarried to a man who was on the wealthier side of the income scale. It was all very different from her biological dad who was a farmhand and mechanic. This new man had shiny shoes that matched his hair being slicked back, and he was a lawyer of all things. Moving from Lancaster to New York was a huge shell shock for Felicity.
There was different rules she had to abide to, paired off with more expensive clothes that she couldn’t risk getting ruined - even when all she wanted to do was dance in the rain. The influence that the new step-dad had over the family was astronomical and surprising when her mother just willingly gave the reigns over to him; The excuse being that he “took them in” and that they should be “respectful.”
Felicity wasn’t one for high society, and it showed. For a girl who always excelled in school and never got into trouble, she began sneaking out of the house in order to try to live life by her own rules. She obtained a part-time job against her step-dad’s wishes in order to save up for college and get out of the house.
It only became worse as she got older, her friends having to become the children of her step-dad’s friends that would be around during galas and other business-related things she never understood. She tried her best to separate herself from that circle of people, but with her mother’s guilting there was no avail. It got so far that she wound up set to be engaged to a son of her step-dad’s best friend, who had even more of a power in the community.
Accept, when the question was popped, she said no. Felicity wasn’t aware that one little word would turn her family and the community against her so quickly. After putting her life on hold to stay, this was her smoking gun that had her booking it to Boulder in order to focus on herself and her further studies.
Felicity became a zoologist and traveled around the world to study and research various forms of animals. She became interested in endangered species as a specialty, which after a couple years in that focus had her promoted to a wildlife forensic specialist. It was recently that she felt the need to take a break and breathe; Finally having her settle down in Iron River as she gets ready for the next chapter of her life.
Personality:
+ Compassionate, Optimistic, and Free-Spirited
- Stubborn, Flighty, and Feverent
Hey, I’m Jules and I’m elated to bring Felicity here. I’ve been looking for the perfect place to play her and allow her to grow. If you’d like to plot, please like this post and I shall come to you! I love all different sorts of plots, and I’m a sucker for angst especially - so be prepared haha !

NAME: Devin Raskin
NICKNAME(S): Dev (by everyone) Deev (mom & siblings)
AGE: 27

ZODIAC SIGN: Aries
GENDER IDENTIFICATION: Cis Male (he/him)
SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Bisexual
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: Single
RESIDENTIAL AREA: Outpost
OCCUPATION: Waiter at Ember / part-time student at Wiggins University
POSITIVE TRAITS: TBD
NEGATIVE TRAITS: TBD
PLACE OF BIRTH: Iron River, Georgia

family.
MOTHER: Nadine Raskin née Beale
FATHER: Paul Raskin
SIBLINGS: Younger sibling (26-ish), Little sibling (24-ish)
NIECES/NEPHEWS: N/A
OTHER: N/A
biography.
Dev is the oldest child of Nadine & Paul Raskin, Iron River natives and high school sweethearts, who married right after graduating from Wiggins University. Devin was born a year later, and his younger sibling followed soon after. The family moved into a small, but nice home in the Outpost neighborhood which proved to be the perfect spot to grow up. Soon after they moved in, Dev’s youngest sibling was born, and the family learned to adjust in their already tight quarters. He enjoyed having siblings and would occasionally rough-house with them, though would kill for them anyday.
Dev was either the loudest or the quietest in the room depending on who he was around, called the shots around his siblings, but kept a level head around his friends. Very rarely did he ever get into trouble, though mischief was had with some of the other kids in his neighborhood - the mystery of who stole Mrs. Shields’ mailbox still remains a mystery to everyone besides those involved in the now infamous crime.
In high school, Dev explored both academic and extracurricular interests in Debate Club, Drama, Track and Field, and even played a season of Football his Junior year. It was during this time where Devin truly began embracing his sexuality after keeping it hidden from others for so long. Sure, his parents were surprised at first when he came out as bisexual, but all they wanted was for their son to be happy and have supported him unconditionally ever since.
After graduation, Dev moved out to Los Angeles to attend UCLA, but dropped out after his first year. He wasn’t 100% sure what he wanted to study, or even that he wanted to go to college at all. He moved in with some friends that lived off-campus or had also dropped-out, and began building some connections in the entertainment industry after getting a job as a Production Assistant at one of the major studios. Eventually, he fell into the party scene & began running with some frequent LA partiers & indulging in all the lifestyle had to offer. Eventually, he found himself in some legal troubles, and it wasn’t until his sibling arrived on his doorstep that he woke up and began to get his life back on track.
Putting the party life behind him, Dev started making efforts to better his life; he got a job in an office, got his own apartment, and started dating a girl he’d met at a movie screening at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. The two fell madly in love and were married two years later, welcoming a daughter the following summer. For the first time in a long time, Dev was truly happy. That is, of course, until he and wife (an L.A. native) disagreed on the fact that Iron River was the perfect place to raise their daughter. After many nights of arguing, discussing compromises, and holding steadfast in their individual opinions, the young couple settled on the difficult decision to divorce. “We both just want very different things; our daughter’s upbringing aside,” his wife (well now, ex-wife) said through tears while placing a hand on his cheek. Dev agreed, and soon enough, the papers were signed, a custody agreement was worked out, and Dev began packing things up for the move back home.
Currently, Dev & his daughter, Ellie, live with Dev’s parents in his childhood home in the Outpost. He landed a job as a waiter at Ember Downtown, and aspires to help others through difficult times & is taking classes at Wiggins University. His parents & siblings take turns babysitting when Dev’s at work or otherwise unable to care for Ellie. He’s ready for the next chapter of his life & excited to be raising his daughter in his hometown.

NAME: Jordan Beharry
AGE: 32
BIRTHDAY: July 16th, 1991
BIRTHPLACE: Athens, Georgia
ETHNICITY: Indo Guyanese
OCCUPATION: Sous Chef @ Ember
NEIGHBORHOOD: Downtown
GENDER/PRONOUNS: Cis Male / Male Pronouns
SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Bisexual (Closeted)
TIME IN IRON RIVER: All his life
IMPORTANT LINKS: Current Connections (as of MAY 2022)
Ever since Anil Prashad and Nurul Beharry arrived in America during their college years, they’ve always felt like something was missing. Simultaneously, they both felt a sense of loneliness after leaving their homes to further their education in America. After meeting each other, they fell in love after realizing how much they had in common. The big one, particularly, was understood to be the lack of family surrounding them. And so, after their graduation, they both decided the solution to their problems was to have a family of their own.
Jordan was born soon after his parents had solidified their careers and the path to a big happy family was on. However, it was quickly realized after five years of trying, that they would be unable to have any more biological children. Although there was a deep sadness that followed, Anil and Nurul decided to foster children in order to replace what otherwise would’ve been. Their first foster was an experience the Beharry family would never forget.
During Jordan’s freshman year of high school, he came across a classmate that seemed to have an extremely troubled background. They would arrive disheveled, wore the same clothes everyday, and was always hungry. Growing up, the number one thing that Jordan’s mother instilled in him was the importance of kindness, and so when there were rumors about his classmate not coming back to school due to troubling family issues, Jordan took it upon himself to find out why.
Long story short, the Beharry family wounded up taking his classmate in as their first foster and their lives were changed forever. Upon request and due to their circumstances, the Beharrys and their first foster then moved to Iron River to start a new life away, but not too far away from Athens. After a year, the Beharrys opened their home to new fosters that came and went, solidifying their family to be just what Anil and Nurul imagined it to be.
In high school, Jordan always seem to exude a certain type of charm that was deeply loved by everyone around him. In many ways, he could be considered ‘popular’. Not only was he athletic, but he did pretty well in school and was friends with everyone. Although he benefited well off of his popularity, Jordan was burdened by the expectations thrust upon him. He felt pressure to, not only be an example to his peers, but to date traditionally as well. Jordan had always been girl crazy, but growing up, he knew deep inside he was interested in same sex too. However, despite his parents being ‘seemingly open’ to modern practices, Jordan felt more comfortable burying his sexual curiosity. In fact, he had buried it so deep, he would pretend like it didn’t even exist.
It wasn’t until he met Alara Közen that his sexual orientation was once again giving every single thought he had a run for its money. Although his four years with Alara had been pure bliss, it wasn’t until she had asked the aged old question, “Where is this relationship going?” that rocked their relationship for the first time. They had easily transitioned into the proper stages a normal relationship would have and what was next was just waiting around the corner. Although Jordan also sought out marriage and a big family like the one he has, there was just one thing keeping him from taking the next step.
All his life, Jordan had avoided his interest in men like the plague... and although he was comfortable with that, something about being married and having kids without ever exploring it didn’t sit right with him. Even if Jordan wasn’t directly thinking about it, the feeling of not knowing who he truly was clouded over him like a storm that never went away. And so, his longest relationship with the best girl he’d ever met ended and so had Jordan’s interest in ever being in something like that again.
In order to get through his break up, Jordan had put his entire focus on his career. Since there were tons of cultures and, specifically, picky eaters coming in and out of their household, Jordan had learned how to cook in order to help his mother around the house. Always being the oldest, Jordan often took care of his younger foster siblings and catered to everyones desires when it came to food. He quickly became a master of various cuisines, which propelled him into culinary school... and finally, a sous chef at Ember, fine dining restaurant. Jordan has dreams of owning his own catering business, but for now, he’s working at building himself up in order to make up for what he’s lost.
POSITIVE TRAITS: generous, fair-minded, easy-going
NEGATIVE TRAITS: secretive, cynical, stubborn-ish

Nicknames: Dom, Goody-two-shoes
Dominic Goodwin was born as the result of an ill-fated union between studio exec Marcus Goodwin and his soap-star wife, Evelyn Laurent-Goodwin. It wouldn’t be entirely fair to classify his existence as a “mistake,” though his birth was certainly unplanned. Evelyn had always been entirely opposed to the idea of getting pregnant, what with her career relying on her good looks, but once she was knocked up, it was too late to do anything about it. She bore the brutality of pregnancy and, in her opinion, she never really recovered from it.
By the time Dom turned six, his parents’ marriage was on their last leg and as a last ditch effort to save it, they adopted a daughter, Deniz. Adopted, because Evelyn swore her body wouldn’t survive another pregnancy. Dominic, for his part, was delighted by his new little sister, but his father… not so much. The new baby barely bought their marriage another six months before the divorce was filed and Marcus Goodwin was shacking up with a newer, younger woman.
Dom’s mother, ever dramatic and emotionally unstable, did not take well to the separation and Dom found himself often picking up the slack, especially when it came to Deniz. Evelyn intentionally kept the children from their father out of spite — not that he tried very hard for visitation anyway. Her behavior on set and off became erratic and unmanageable, and within two years not even being a fan-favorite could save her. The production decided to fire her and unceremoniously killed her character off.
Evelyn found a way to land on her feet, though, in the form of a new, wealthy (and significantly older) husband who had decided to retire in Iron River. And so when Dominic was 9 years old, he, his mother, and his little sister moved to Georgia and left the world of Hollywood behind. Though if Dom had hoped his mother being out of the luke-warm spotlight would make her more stable, he was sorely disappointed. If anything, being an out-of-work, rich housewife only gave her more time to focus on her insecurities. As such, Dom often had to act as a parent not only to Deniz, but to his mother as well.
His stepfather died when he was 15, and though he left the family a sizable inheritance, his mother continued to spent money indiscriminately, and it didn’t take long to deplete their savings.
Dom decided to go to college nearby so that he could keep an eye on his mom and Deniz, and while there, he fell in love with his eventual-wife, Cat. After graduation, they got married and moved back to Iron River, where Dom started working as a high school math teacher and eventually became the basketball coach as well.
The couple now has an almost 7 year old son, Sebastian, but their marriage has become incredibly rocky. Thanks to Cat’s job as a geologist for an oil company, she is constantly traveling and Dom operates largely as a single father. His mother is also a source of incredible strain in his relationship.

biography.
Technically Catalina Johansen, or Cat as she preferred to be called from the start, was born in Kansas, but to this day she’d be more likely to claim Georgia as her roots. Not too surprising, considering she’d only lived there but a handful of years.
Her parents, Anders and Marisol, were never what most would call a well suited match. He was only embarking on a gap year across the country. She was headed to college in the fall. It was only meant to be a summertime fling for the memories, not a ‘til death do us part. Of course, staring down at two pink lines has a habit of changing things.
They gave it an honest go for a while, but not even their shared love for their daughter was enough to keep them from drifting apart. It was somewhere around the time Marisol began bringing up a Master’s Degree that the young couple reached their inevitable shattering. Anders didn’t want two more years locked down in one place. He had big plans and even bigger dreams abroad. Marisol wasn’t ready to leave her family. 'Irreconcilable differences’ is what the divorce papers said, but for Cat it meant the beginning of the end.
She and her mom stayed put, her father left, and by the time Marisol finished in university it was almost like he’d never been there at all. No visits, few postcards, even fewer calls. No child should have to grow up wondering if they’d only imagined a second parent, but for Cat there wasn’t much choice. Until there was.
Much like she doesn’t remember her father in those earliest years, she doesn’t remember quite when her mom and Leo met. Suddenly he was just there, no longer the man waiting in the driveway, but the one eating dinner at her side. The one kissing her goodnight. The one carefully helped dress her dolls while Marisol got the baby down again.
She was seven, her baby sister two, when the call came in. Leo’s father wasn’t doing well. Could he come home? After that, it wasn’t even a thought. He and Marisol packed up the kids, loaded the cars, and set out for his hometown of Iron River the next day. A week’s visit turned into three. Three weeks turned into two months. Eventually they admitted her father needed round the clock care and it wouldn’t make sense to go back to Kansas at all. Just like that, Cat found herself the newest student at Iron River Elementary. Enter Hudson Sweeney.
They both harbored a mutual curious streak, and as the newest kid in class it was all too easy for her to latch onto the friendship he extended that first week. She followed him and Jules around town like a shadow, eager to help solve the next ‘mystery’. Even as time went on and they all grew up, that tight knit bond didn’t fade. If anything it only stitched deeper. So perhaps it wasn’t a surprise, either, that they eventually declared what everyone else already seemed to know: they weren’t just friends, but so so much more than that.
He was her first love. At a time, the person she fully expected to spend the rest of her life with. But history has a funny way of repeating itself, and high school graduation brought about a recurring theme: his dreams were steering him north, to New York City. Hers were in an acceptance letter to school back home. It felt inevitable when they called things off. Cat was devastated, if she was being honest, but above all else she knew if she somehow convinced him to stay he’d never be happy. That they just wanted two different things
So he went, and Cat stayed. The next surprise came not too long after. She never expected to fall in love twice, but Dominic Goodwin caught her by surprise. He was a familiar face in a sea of strangers. A little taste of home, even if home was no more than a car ride away. Quick chats in the halls turned to lunch in the quad. Lunch turned into late nights. With Hudson gone and slipping farther from her by the day it was all too easy to fall for Dom. When he proposed she said yes. Months after graduation they were married.
Life was supposed to just fall into place after that. They moved back to Iron River while he started working and Cat pursued her Master’s degree. He started coaching the high school basketball team around the time she went for her Doctorate. It was minutes before the 2014 state championship game when she told him the news: after all the pushbacks, all the waiting, they were finally going to have a baby.
Sebastian Gabriel Goodwin was absolutely a blessing, but the years that followed his birth started to feel cursed. Cat had already shelved her ambitions of being out in the field, but even if it wasn’t doing research abroad she still had to work. Her job with an oil company out of Texas paid too well to pass up. It definitely should’ve paid more than enough to keep their finances in the black.
Should’ve, if not for Dom’s mother, Evelyn, and her endless mooching. What was once a happy, hopeful marriage seemed to turn sour overnight. They were always fighting. Always sat in silence or down each other’s throats. If it wasn’t about his mother, or the money, it was about the fact that Cat was leaving… again. About the fact that each time she left, his oh-so-perfect best friend, Celeste, was in their home all but taking her place.
It was just to help pick up the slack, he said, but Cat couldn’t help comparing it to her own parents. To the way her father came back when she was thirteen, begging Marisol to leave her new husband and give him - give all of them - a second chance. Even though she adored her step-father and barely knew the man who’d contributed half of her DNA, she’d wanted that. For at least a moment, she’d wanted her mother to say yes. Instead, she gave Anders the door and he’s been griping to Cat about being “replaced by a better model, by Leo the ultimate family man” ever since.
Loathe as she is to admit it, Cat can’t help but wonder if that’s exactly what’s happening now. If Dom’s already replaced her in his head and this ‘rough patch’ is just the start of ‘history repeats itself - take three’.

𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐲.
– our story begins in kuala lumpur. english rose and scientific prodigy eloise chapman was doing a year abroad in the capital of malaysia when she met daniel che, a student at the university of malaya. despite their vastly different backgrounds ( eloise came from old money, whereas the ches made their riches through real estate development over the last few decades ), the two hit it off in an instant, and once the year was up, daniel followed eloise back to oxford without a second thought -- much to the chagrin of his father, who had been grooming him to inherit the family business.
– first came marriage, then came babies -- four of them to be exact, with little theodore bringing up the rear as the youngest. growing up in their guildford estate, teddy and his siblings wanted for little. while his mother and father paved the way with their innovations in biochemistry, the kids were put through their paces in prep school.
– as the son of two academics, teddy had all the tools to be a promising student but none of the drive. try as he might to stay interested in his classes, distractions were everywhere and he was certainly guilty of getting wrapped up in them. by the time adolescence rolled around, his siblings had all gone off to oxford and teddy was drowning in his studies. thankfully, his favorite teacher was there to throw him a life raft.
– james caddington completely changed the game. with his warm demeanor and endless supply of book recommendations, he single-handedly got teddy excited about literature for the first time in -- well, ever. he began reading not only for school but for pleasure, and all those nights in did wonders for the rest of his courseload. thanks to mr. caddington, he passed secondary with flying colors. when oxford once again found itself in his sights, his parents were delighted -- but teddy had other plans.
– announcing that he was venturing overseas to study at harvard university rocked the che household to its core. it didn’t matter that harvard was ranked number one in the world -- they were an oxford family. rich people problems, am i right ? teddy finally managed to appease his parents by promising to major in something “useful”. economics was boring as sin, but science had always been his worst subject and it was the lesser of all evils.
– thus began the harvard era. his courseload was absolutely miserable, every book on his desk full of numbers instead of stories. if it weren’t for his plum editing gig at the harvard review, the ivy’s esteemed literary magazine, he likely would’ve crawled back to england with his tail between his legs. this time, it wasn’t a teacher who saved his life but a girl.
– they met at a poetry reading, locked eyes across the pub and the rest was history. madeline ( “call me maddie” ) was incredible. not only did she convince him to pursue literature, she also convinced his parents to be cool with it. she was charming and intelligent, with a job offer at the smithsonian already lined up after graduation. teddy had always believed his father leaving everything behind to follow his mother was the most romantic thing he’d ever heard, so when maddie announced she was moving to DC, his next step was clear.
– he’d go on to get his masters in education from georgetown university, and the night of his graduation, he finally popped the question. the next eight months were a blur of wedding planning, and it was shaping up to be the event of the century. the morning of his wedding, teddy dressed in his tux without a care in the world, ready to marry his soulmate. but when he arrived at the church, maddie’s best friend and maid of honor was out front waiting for him. she could barely look him in the eye as she told him maddie was not coming.
– officially in panic mode, teddy got into his car and drove -- and drove, and drove. unfortunately, his beloved 60s aston marton was not equipped to handle the spontaneous trip. it broke down on the side of the road somewhere in georgia, just outside a town called iron river. he managed to get it to a repair shop in town, where the kind-eyed mechanic informed him it’d take her about a week to get the car back on its feet.
– he was supposed to be in the maldives on his honeymoon. instead, he was stranded in salt county, staying in a crumby motel without even a change of clothes to his name. the situation was less than ideal, yet somehow, against all odds . . . he fell in love. between boston and DC, teddy never really thought to picture what life in the states looked like for him. turns out, it was this.
– so he got a job teaching english at the local high school and made his most impulsive purchase to date -- a house in the outpost. he’s been in iron river for over a year and a half now, turning lemons into lemonade. who would’ve thought the worst day of his life would turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to him ?
𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐬.
teddy is very passionate about snacks. he keeps them in his desk and is the kind of teacher who throws out candy for class participation. literally always at the grocery store replenishing his personal and professional snack collection.
father to an adorable brown cat named dodger -- not an oliver twist reference but a tribute to his favorite biscuit, jammy dodgers. dodger actually owns the house, he just lets teddy live there.
LOVES the neon moon saloon without a trace of irony and would go there every single night if he could. addicted to pac-man and skiball.
not quite as hopeless a romantic as he once was and definitely a bit less reckless with a heart, but he still has dreams of finding his person <3 swipe right, babie !
inspirations : rupert giles ( btvs ), arthur weasley ( harry potter ), richard campbell gansey iii ( the raven cycle )
frequented locations : neon moon saloon, horizons grocery store, the farmer’s market, the heights, whiskey garden
