Illusions of a Kitsune

In Japanese folklore, fox spirits (or kitsune) were commonly called "witch animals". They had the powers to change form into anything or...anyone. They were capable of "bewitching" those around them.

Namine has been referred to as a witch time and time again.

And she has the ability to "bewitch" people through the chain of memories.

She also has the power to appear as someone else.

In the past, Ava did something similar quite a few times.

Riku's the only one she couldn't trick like this lmao

The latter one being a pretty decent reason for Elrena to hate her.

And if she killed Strelitzia while taken over by darkness, it explains all of the guilt and sense of atonement that comes from every single one of Namine's actions going forward from COM.

While there are stories about what I've discussed, there are ALSO stories where kitsune are depicted as faithful guardians and friends. They adhere to their master's wishes. Once Namine overcomes her avarice on Sora's side of COM, she is able to continue her role of helping the new generation of Keyblade wielders while staying away from the battlefield itself.

FUCKTON OF KINGDOM HEARTS HEADCANONS BE UPON YE

The divine inspiration attacked me again but I didn't want to touch any of my actual wips so I just started typing until I felt like I'd sufficiently vomited enough of my feelings about. Some of these are based in canon, some are shit I made the fuck up, some of them I know I've scavenged from other posts over the years (the one with Isa and Aqua specifically), and none of them are organized beyond a vague sense of what characters they're about

-Sora may not be traditionally book smart but he's actually got a huge vocalabulary he just doesn't utilize much. Roxas and Xion get this from him and only find out it might not be normal when Roxas casually says "gregarious" in a sentence and they have to explain the word meaning to Lea

-when Roxas and Xion start going to school they keep asking Naminé to use her memory powers to help them cram for tests, despite her insistence that it does not work that way (and even if it did she would not do it bc that's cheating)

-post KH3 Naminé stays with Riku for a few weeks and then moves into the the Land of Departure with the Wayfinders. Axel helped her escape Castle Oblivion but seeing him so soon was just a little too much for her, and she's got too many bad memories of DiZ to stay at the mansion, which is where they've been squatting. She was uneasy around Terra and Aqua for a while but got on with Ventus right away since he looks like Roxas and he's just a big sweetie.

-Naminé warms up to Terra first because she remembers him from the Keyblade Graveyard, and starts bonding with Aqua when Aqua gets her a new notebook snd a big old box of colored pencils. They have weekly craft nights and within a year Naminé has basic knowledge of whittling and how to make keychains. Ventus isnt super into arts and crafts so he spends the night on snack duty (procuring lots of snacks and then eating all of the snacks except the ones for Terra because they're "salty and gross").

-also Naminé's awakening involved a lot more panicking then the ending of kh3 showed once she realize Ansem the Wise is also DiZ (I like the man but he locked her in a fucking closet). Riku is basically flooring it in the Gummi ship to get there after Ienzo calls him because PLEASE HELP NONE OF US CAN HANDLE UPSET CHILDREN

-After they recomplete Lauriam and Elrena wake up in the Keyblade Graveyard and eventually make their way to Radient Garden where they get hired as guards alongside Dilan and Aeleus. It is awkward and horrible for everyone involved

-Lauriam is technically a guard but most of his time is spent helping the Restoration Committee bring back the native flowers

-Demyx hangs around the castle in Radient Garden doing jack shit besides playing his sitar and smoking weed in the lab. Ienzo defends him being there because he has nowhere else to go, and the only thing that has kept Elrena from kicking his ass out the front door is that Ienzo can claim he's useful because he can occasionally coax Demyx into holding stuff for him when they're doing science things. Perhaps the most devastating blow to the former Organization members is that Ansem the Wise genuinely likes Demyx's music so it gets broadcasted throughout the entire castle. Even is close to killing himself

-Lea can't bring himself to go back to Radient Garden yet. Isa, who is not used to having no work to do, is restless enough to return. He ends up helping run the Restoration Committee becauss you don't come to be in charge of mission distribution for a cult by sitting on your ass for twelve years

-Terra and Isa text a lot but almost never hang out irl. They have a lot in common between the Xehanort and the Darkness but Isa can't really look at him and not see Xemnas so they have a pretty good but distant friendship. Ven tries to introduce them at one point and gets incredibly confused when they just go "hey" casually and with familiarity before he can start talking

-Terra and Aqua were both adopted by Eraqus before they were old enough to remember their home worlds, and neither know where they're from. Terra was an orphan from the Destiny Islands and Aqua is from Radiant Garden, her mother couldn't take care of her at the time and allowed Eraqus to take her in.

-Additionally, Aqua and Isa are biological siblings, or half siblings. Aqua has no clue of this, but at some point Isa hears from the older Organization members that around four years before he came along, his mother had a different blue-haired child, so he has his suspicions. He doesn't plan on addressing it unless he runs into his mother again, which he's been actively avoiding. Lea only finds out about this post Keyblade War, because Isa learned about it after their friendship got rocky. Only other person who knows is Ven, and he just tells them that he thinks he has a sister, not who it might be

-Ventus just replies "Aw, i hope you find her some day" and doesn't think much further of it until one day when he's in bed trying to sleep thinking about random things and idly notes that they seem to have the same hair color, at which point he loses his FUCKING MIND

-Xion and Isa get off to a rocky start living together. because. Everything. but they get closer when Xion confesses to having Gender Thoughts and Isa confides to her that he's transmasc. Xion also enjoys spending time with him if she's stressed and doesn't want to talk about it because he doesn't press the way Lea and Roxas tend to

-the replica kids (Replikids. If you will) don't actually need to eat food and don't get hungry. Xion and Roxas will get cravings, whereas Naminé has never actually eaten more then a few bites of any food by the time of KH3. A month into her stay at the Land of Departure they have what would come to be known as The Protein Bar Incident, which was roughly two hours of a very panicked Terra and Ven trying to get Naminé to eat the only thing they had on them when they realize they have never seen her eat.

-Ienzo is really good at coding and outside of stuff for the lab, most of that expertise goes toward making stupidass video game mods for Demyx

-At Lea's suggestion, he, Isa, Terra and Aqua have a monthly Adult Night, which usually consistents of dumping the children off at Destiny Islands for a beach camp out, getting food at the Twilight Town Bistro, and then watching R rated movies until the wee hours of the morning. Sometimes they watch adult cartoons instead (Lea is incredibly into Bojack Horseman. Isa prefers Tuca and Bertie because he sees some of himself in Bojack and it scares him. Aqua doesn't really like any adult cartoons because she doesn't like how crude they tend to be and Terra is usually asleep ten minutes in regardless. the only thing he's stayed awake through entirely was the Star Wars movie marathon.)

-adding onto that, assuming it doesn't exist as a world somewhere, Terra's a huge fucking Star Wars guy after he comes back. He's got the lego death star and shit. His favorite character is Luke but Anakin is the one he spends the most time thinking about and he would shove Kylo Ren into a locker given the opportunity. he and Aqua go as Padme and Anakin for Halloween

-speaking of hyperfixations. Ventus gets his hands on a Nintendo DS and for MONTHS after this kid is eating sleeping breathing Pokémon. He gets Naminé into it too and she draws him a bunch of custom Pokémon cards and when asked if he wants real ones he passionately refuses because her scribblely Clefairy means the world to him

-If I haven't made it clear Naminé x Ventus is my rarepair. Ven has a giant puppy crush on her that even Terra and Aqua make fun of him for and she does not notice

-a timeline of Riku's character arc and a timeline of Riku accepting his feelings for Sora are basically the same chart

-accepting that he likes boys was never an issue for Riku, the problem is that the boy he wants is his best friend

-Kairi thinks everything that happened between them in KH3 made it very clear to Sora that she wants to be with him romantically. Kairi is wrong

-Sora is an unaware demiromantic and still hasn't worked out that his feelings for Kairi and Riku are not just Friendship+

-post KH2 Riku has been living on the tree house on Destiny Islands. His relationship with his parents was never good which is part of why he was so eager to leave in KH1. His set up is actually pretty good now and other people crash with him on occcasion, usually Naminé and sometimes Roxas after they stop flinching everytime they see each other

-Roxas takes half a year to forgive Riku for beating him up and kidnapping him that one time. It's less about what Riku was actually did and more that seeing Riku just kicks those old feelings up again. Roxas is mostly just embarrassed about getting his shit kicked and Riku is embarrassed that he kicked Roxas' shit so they're even

-The Master of Masters was a. Complicated parental figure to the Foretellers but one thing he kept consistent is that he NEVER used bad language in front of them. Pretty much none of them swear even as adults which is why the most unsettling thing about new Luxu is not that one of the youngest of of them is now around the same age as the Master, but that he says the fuck word as easily as he breathes
