Above is the apology and response to the 200+ artists so that they may have input, and a chance to give thoughts on the accusations made can be handled appropriately. This is also for anyone else wanting to give an input based off what they’ve heard or read.
Please take the time to fill out the questionnaire on how to improve their artist alley.
This post here was posted in anger against his apology and his response to the problems that are evidently this year an issue where as last year no one had an issue.
So in response to the unprofessional artists, and not just the post mentioned and linked this post is being made.
Firstly. Do not turn this around on those of us continuing to attend, and support this convention because what you guys are doing is just in fact bitching, and whining. That is really what you are doing. You can fancy it with pretty words, you can fancy it with long text posts, but when you get down to the core basics of your posts you are literally just bitching. In fact, I have a grave feeling that you do not seem to understand conventions and how they work. As an individual who judges AMVs at a larger convention I think I’d have more of a clue on how conventions are run.
This is where your problems all come to screeching halt. You are literally just another attendee when you get to the very core of it all. You are not a “special” guest. No one is paying to have you flaunt your artistic abilities around. If you were that you wouldn’t even be paying to present your work. I should know. As an AMV Judge I am considered a special guest who attends Ohayocon, and only have to worry about devoting several hours of my time to review and announce things along with the price of my hotel fee.
No one is actually laughing at your rejection. We’re laughing at your inability to be professionals. You want to be considered and taken as such but you do not actually partake in the professionalism you’re requiring. You want to be part of the show that this convention is presenting, and weren’t accepted. These things happen. If you can’t handle it I’d hate to see you applying for jobs. I’d also love to be the one who finds out where you apply too though because I’d send them your bitch session in a heartbeat so they knew better then to hirer people so unprofessional.
Second, I fail to see how Colossalcon is doing anything that other conventions do. I asked the last girl who started her shit to name one big convention that sits down and tells 200+ people why they made it in and why they didn’t. At Ohaycoon with AMVs we do a jury system as well, and send out rejection letters as well, but do not sit down and give you a point system. If you ask though in a polite, and professional manner we do in fact let you know. Do you really expect these people to have time in their lives to sit down and go through a complete diagnostic of why this artist did better then another? If you do you’re absolutely insane. I’d like to see you do it then. I want to see you do it with 200+ people. In fact, I damn well dare you. This is not an actual job for these people. This is a side thing they do. They have big boy/girl jobs just like anyone else.
You all were told you did or didn’t make it. You just didn’t like why. You were told that you’re art did not make the vote in the jury system. That’s honestly all you really need to know when it comes down to it. Someone got higher scores then you did. It happens. It’s happened to me with my anime music videos. You seek to further improve not cry and throw a tantrum. I’m willing to bet if you guys stopped bitching and asked politely, and in a professional manner what your scores were they would of been willing to let you know such things. Not one of you from my understanding took this professional and polite manner. Grow up.
Begging? No. I’m sorry. Hate mail. Is. not. begging. for. answers.
Bitching. is. not. begging. for. answers.
Posting peoples personal and private things on tumblr. is. not. begging. for. answers.
Harassing someone’s wife is most definitely, positively NOT begging for answers.
It’s you being rude, and unprofessional, and acting like your twelve who was denied a gold star of approval on your A+ Science Paper.
Those of us going to Colossalcon do so because they provide us with a wonderful experience, and enjoyment. They are not some corrupt business like you all want to make them out to be, because honestly they have far more to offer then just your artist alley. The bigger issue here is those of you in the artist community not willing to stand up and let these handful of people on some kind of crusade, who were rejected, know that they are making your community look bad. It’s rather embarrassing when you get down to it. Are you really this comfortable with them making you all seem unprofessional?
That is truly what is most appalling about this. It’s easy for those handful to bitch, but hard for you to stand up and really let them know how horrible they are making the artist alley, and those who participate in it, look.

EpicPanels: Future Endeavors
Nick from Epic Panels here:
After an amazing reception at Ohayocon, EpicPanels has been spending some time planning. Currently, we are looking at what conventions we will be able to apply to present at. This issue is strongly effected when the convention is and how much it will cost us. So lets take a look at what we would like the future of EpicPanels to look like:
January - Ohayocon
April - Tekkoshakon
June - Colossalcon
October - Youmacon
These are just big name conventions that are within our traveling range we are considering. We are already proven presenters at Ohayocon and Colossalcon so hopefully in the future we can add Youmacon and Tekko.
That being said we support local conventions but hold all conventions to the same professional standard. We are always actively looking for opportunities to promote anime in the convention scene. If you are a small convention in Ohio, PA,Mi or are just local to us feel free to let us know. If we can drive to you and help bring our brand of quality panel experience to your convention we welcome the chance to help out.
Right now we are in Planning stages for Colossalcon. Hopefully we will get a few panels accepted based on last years performance. We also hope they will let us debut a few new panels. As always we love to hear from you as fans and if you are ever in the Kent/ Akron area and want to have a drink let us know. We do this for our passion but present because you keep showing up <3

Welcome to Epic Panels!
This is our first post. Since this is our first post I guess I want to make it more of a mission statement or similar to a introduction to us and what we stand for.
Epic Panels is a group of about 5 individuals who have been going to anime conventions for over the period of 6 years or so. We all have different background, but all work for the same cause, which is to be the change we want to see. Here at Epic Panels we support the idea that anime conventions should have....more anime. In addition to this, we also feel like many panels that are currently doing panels could bring more to the table. Instead of sitting around complaining we got together and decided we would test our ideas on our own and do panels.
Over the last 6 years we have done panels at Ohayocon and Colossalon. This was a learning process for us as a group, and eventually we came to determine what we think makes for a great panel and out fans agreed; asking us last Colossalcon to "please make a facebook page" after multiple people showed up to every panel we did, regardless of topic.
We feel that panels should do a couple things for the attendees. They should:
Introduce a series or idea to you
Make connections of information you might have missed
Ask questions left unanswered and try to make you think
Be a performance
Include YOU!!!!!
Our lead and founder, Nick, makes sure that we keep the goal of Anime in mind when planning panels, and currently we have 5 panels based around this topic. Additionally, after some discussion, and a few free meals, Nick loosened his grasp to anime andallowed us to do panels on other things like, social issues such as helping other panelists get started into panels, and helping them do better panels. This includes the panels How to Panel: Panel, How do I normal, and Adventure Time.
Another thing that we feel is important is we are not in this for fame or money. We hold true to the idea that we do what we love and we have fun doing it, we stop doing it the day it is no longer fun. If you like what we do tell us thats all we want and will help us be better. If you hate it tell us so we know what you didnt like. We do this for you and forthe cause of bringing better panels and anime back into conventions about anime.
We love you all and hope to joke with you in the near future.
