OK so there was this post I've tried to find but haven't been successful, so I'll put down what I can remember on the chance that it's helpful:

It was basically, "Give yourself permission to write garbage"

Start with 1 sentence. Do it while you're waiting for something in the microwave. Then one more while you're waiting for the kettle to boil. Or, try to do as many as you can! The urgency of 'oh no I only have like 2 minutes' can sometimes either jump start the flow, or bypass that super critical analyse-every-word- as-it-comes part (that sounds like it's ruling you right now).

Don't re read it until you have filled a page. Just don't. Or 5 pages. Congrats, you have a draft. Not perfection - a draft!

And you're not going backwards. More like an engine stalling... maybe you ran out of fuel or just went over a bump.

Maybe this helps, or maybe it doesn't - maybe you've overcome it and your post has simply circulated a year later, I don't know. But for what it's worth, I love reading your work and looking at your visual art. It's really fun and I think you're very talented.

I’ve been having a lot of trouble writing lately. Like a lot. I’ll open a document and blank (pun intended but I’m too upset to laugh rip). A spark of creativity, crushed as soon as I go to write it down and it slips through my fingers when I try to get it back.

Paragraphs and paragraphs of forced words that feel wrong, words I dragged out of myself, words I hate. A dozen works in progress, some of them just different tries at the same project, sit dusty in my writing app. A dozen more, two dozen, even, sit forgotten in my deleted works folder.

Seven fan fictions I have published, and when I think of them I can’t be proud. I can’t be happy, I can only think about how I wrote the words down and even though I didn’t really like them, I might as well publish them because I didn’t want them to go to waste.

I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I just want to write but everything only lasts for a few days if I’m lucky before I suddenly have nothing left for them. It hurts. I want to write, but something stops me every time. Every time I face those empty pages, I am beat down and I can’t get back up because I don’t even know what’s holding me down. I don’t know what’s wrong, and it’s hard and it hurts. I just want to have fun writing and put my ideas onto paper and torture my characters when I want to without feeling like every word doesn’t belong there.

Mate I hear you

I feel like I've had it for years. There was one post that had some excellent successive and I'll see if I can find it, but I'll reblog this now in case I can't find YOURS.

I think you're amazing, and the works you create are just as amazing - as well as the fact that you do another amazing thing which is posting it for us to enjoy. They're separate things and at least from one person, it's appreciated.

Does anyone know how to work through artist/writer’s block? Or whatever problem it is that I currently have…

Yeah anyways so I’ve been having a lot of trouble drawing but especially writing lately. With drawing, I just seem to be slow and a little lacking in creativity, but with writing there’s just something wrong. It may be due to the fact that I’ve been drawing and writing almost exclusively about Legend for weeks…months? Maybe I’m just burnt out on that front. I don’t want to be, though. I’ve tried telling myself it’s okay to write terribly—we have first drafts for a reason—but I feel like I get weighed down if I think everything I’ve written beforehand. Like if I have a bas base, how can I have a good…everything else, really.

I think a problem might be that I can’t express creativity in two different ways at the same time. Like I need to either just write or just draw, because I can’t dedicate my energy and creativity to both at the same time. I could be wrong, I definitely want to be wrong, but maybe that has something to do with it…?

I don’t know what to do, I’m exhausted and I love writing and want to keep doing it but also I have no idea how to get out of this funk. If someone could pls give me some advice, that would be great.

Spirit Train

Been wanting to draw a full scale steam engine, no tracing, full detail, for a while now. And @2023legendoflinkzine gave me a perfect excuse to draw the Spirit Train.

I made her a 4-4-0 mostly because it was the closest shape I could find while still being in the style of engine I wanted to draw. I since found a couple of tank engines closer to the original shape but I just really wanted to draw an engine like this. The Spirit Train deserves to be a full scale engine.

Anyways keep an eye on @2023legendoflinkzine !! Cool stuff will be coming from them soon!
