hello ! i’ve been absent yet again and wanted to tell y’all i got a pretty bad eye infection and haven’t been able to really tolerate being on my laptop much ( it makes my right eye fog up and get blurry to an intolerable extent ). this isn’t me disappearing, more me saying that my activity will be limited until i finish these antibiotic eye drops and feel more comfortable being on a screen.

appless/skeleton rpg plots based off of ya lit.

below the cut you’ll find a ton of potential appless rpg plots based off of YA Lit. this is in an effort to diversify the groups we see and explore themes that aren’t common.

SHADOW & BONE / in a world where power is wealth, there is a conflict between the grisha, beings that have power and control it, and the common folk. the grisha are reviled because their power makes them distinguished; there are those who control water, fire, and air, then those that can manipulate the body, amongst other things. the potential is endless. the commonsfolk may start war because they see that the grisha may hold too much power in their world. ravka, the nation this plot occurs in, may be in a war with a neighboring country. distinguishing about this plot: russian origins, powers that are manipulated from their surroundings but not produced.

RED QUEEN / the reds are ruled by the silvers, humans that now have mutations that allow them to wield power. the silvers are cruel and send the reds off constantly to fight in their wars. most reds that are conscripted never survive the war. the potential is endless. you can right about a red rebellion focusing solely on the reds, or queenstrial, the event that centers around silver women competing to be the silver queen. distinguishing about this plot: dystopian, mutation based powers.

THRONE OF GLASS / the king requires a champion, and has had thirty of his lords/ladies sponsor thirty criminals to compete as his assassin. the criminals chosen can be selected regardless of their crime. cue ballrooms, chandeliers, and a castle made entirely of glass, along with the rest of it being made of stone. the potential is somewhat limited, but offers for an rpg that can be driven by a generator. distinguishing about this plot: magic, competition, assassins, crime.

RED PYRAMID / the egyptian gods still live ; and there are magicians that wield the power of ancient egypt. they are located in various nomes around the world, and their powers vary. there are diviners, necromancers, and many more. the more powerful the magician, the more rare their ability. you can come up with almost any sort of plot; that set is attempting to start war with another god, apophis may be coming back. you will need knowledge over egyptian mythology, and this rpg will require egyptian FCs only, which makes it difficult. distinguishing about this plot: egyptian, mythology

THE SELECTION / thirty girls throughout the country have been brought to the castle to compete in what is a competition to marry the crown prince of illea, the country that resides on the ruins of america. they compete in a series of tests and trials that show their wits, abilities in various situations, and even capacity for kindness. distinguishing about this plot: romance based, not really roleplayable but an idea

THE HUNGER GAMES / y’all know the plot, here are ideas. focus on a certain district during the mockingjay rebellion, write one of the quarter quells, or the districts before the uprisings. set the group in a career academy in one of the career districts. there are so many HG RPGs that surface but they have the same idea in most cases.

yes ! ! ! i’m going to start off by even mentioning your icon. i love the color scheme sm. it really reminds me of the gradient themes a lot of rpgs had in the past, so i’m in love w it off the bat. your theme is different from the norm but i actually really like it ; it’s still super polished and i love the black lives matter button on the bottom. also love the navi page, and plot wise, i like it! i haven’t seen anything like this in a while, and the plot is honestly unique from most, if not all. this is honestly . . . perfect. shout-out to the admins of this group for putting out something unique, stunning, and capable of going on for months ( i could see this group going on long-term ! ! ) . i’m wishing y’all the best of luck, and this is a huge rec from me ! ! < 3

Any suggestions for how to reach out to ask for help on running a group? I haven't been on tumblr since back in 2012 and graphics and aesthetics were nice but didn't make or break a group. But I've been noticing a lot now that if there's not a complicated theme, really intense graphics, and doesn't look flawless; groups don't seem to do well and I'm not very adapt at any of those.

yes ! ! i have a guide over here that’ll help slightly. i think it helps more with the technical stuff. i also don’t think you’ll need super intense graphics, but they’ll need to be passable ! ! my advice would be to get everything you need drafted, and then find admins in the tags via promo blog or even posting about it. one might be gifted w graphics, but if not, you could likely find someone who takes graphic requests. :( if you want though, i could compile a list of themes that require graphics but aren’t heavily reliant upon them.

Check out Nightmonstersrpg! It's nothing like I've ever seen in the RPC!

i won’t lie, this rpg isn’t what i’d join, but it is fucking amazing. the graphics, the biographies, the plot. if you’ve been around 2014-2015, back when lsrpgs were at peak and there were dozens over dozens of applications for groups, then you know that this group would’ve had TONS of mockblogs around, and probably over a hundred applications. and i genuinely hope that they do ; i just haven’t checked their talk tag. this is a very huge rec from me. kudos to the admins for bringing life to such a vibrant group to be (i don’t think they’re open? could be wrong), and for putting in so much work in this group. check them out ! ! !

honestly i feel like the reason the rpc loves greek row, uni, small town full of 20somethings rps is because anything more in depth (war, for example, but also literally anything with a plot and conflict) will be criticized or called out for being problematic in some way. rpc discourse turning to "having a character with a traumatic backstory is problematic" / "plots with violence are problematic" is making complex or interesting plots harder to come by for fear of being "rpc canceled"

this is actually a super good take. one thing i do like about the rpc ( for someone who wasn’t part of it in the last two years ) is that it has grown more aware of what is and is not problematic, for the most part. but i do agree with you there ; people can be close to blowing the whistle on certain things that are not problematic, and can easily be resolved via messages. of course this depends on what is being written, but for some things, education is just needed. :( but i do think that we should try to break the bubble, and we should defend and support those who do. the rpc requests a lot of things, and has great ideas, but they do not support those once they are put into action.

listen . . . i really think that ya lit has great fucking ideas for rpgs instead of different takes on the plots that we’ve seen since 2012, with different variations of the years. there’s nothing wrong ( undoubtedly ) with going along with the greek life rpgs, or soulmate rpgs, or anything of the sort; classic genres are classic genres for a reason. but why don’t we add to this and diverge from the norm? why don’t we write more on war, or fantasy, or characters with powers that aren’t the type that we often receive on tv? i think we call for a lot in the rpc, but maybe we should actually enact these ideas, and support the admins who give these groups life. because we should not ask for concepts and then not support them.

i think that with an lsrpg, it required more effort than i put in. :( i’m working on it now, but i think i want to hit the tags again in january or february with every single bio drafted, the main already ready, and anything else complete. i like to have my groups be perfect and i want to drop it in the tags when i feel confident that the quality of it cannot be doubted. i will not drop the rp though because i love it too much. i’m sorry though :( but it’ll 100% be back within january/february at the latest.

stars fall from the sky when his dragon was struck ; the roar had been ferocious enough that the mighty beor mountains had quaked and the deep cavern dwellers had seen the stalagmites tremble. the scorned did not emerge from his seclusion, and the herculean riders of the fierce dragons did not hold fear within their noble hearts, for they had vanquished all evil within the lands and had long grown arrogant. the diviner did not foresee the blood that would turn the emerald fields of illirea crimson, nor did she foretell that the skeletons of the dragons would litter the city of doru arabea. his disappearance was simply a disappearance ; not the event that would foretell the fall of the riders.

shurtugal is an inheritance cycle rpg set before the fall of the dragon riders and the events of the series. heavy inspiration will be drawn from the lore of the books while characters will be divergent from canon. it is an 18+, mature lsrpg that will be focused on plot drops, character deaths, and rpg events. shurtugal is currently seeking two admins to assist with running the still veiled main. use our talk tag: shurtugalrpg.
