So my semester is finally done. I handed in my last paper today and I think the bags under my eyes say it all. Balancing school and work is getting harder and harder which is why people I know outside of school probably haven't heard much from me in a while but at least I get to spend Christmas break making time for myself. My One Piece figure collection has gone without Trafalgar Law for too long, so I grabbed this piece from #banpresto The Grandline Men line. I like the detail on the clothes and how they seem to fold realistically instead of just staying straight like anime outfits, but lowkey disappointed in the choice of bland colours, plus it's pretty small even by crane game statue standards. A little while back I got a hold of Banpresto's 20th anniversary PVC figure of Luffy, which they call the magazine version. Why, I couldn't tell you, but what I can tell you is that the paint on this thing is beautiful. I especially like the weathering on the pants and the grit on the hat. Not crazy about the pose though, which is kind of awkward, especially because you need not one but two stands to get it to stand up right. That wouldn't be so bad, except that neither of the stands actually work that well, so I just propped it against a wall anytime I wanted to set it down. I will say that I do love the fact that Luffy holds his original version of the strawhat flag, which I don't think has ever been featured in any figures or statues before. There's not much else to this statue besides some pretty paint, especially with the sheer number of Luffy figures out there, but it's far from bad and I'm happy to have it as part of my collection. I got a hold of this awesome Sabo statue from Banpresto's World Figures Colisseum line. This is my first experience with said line but my initial impression is mostly very positive. Unlike most Banpresto figures there's a fair bit of assembly required but just like most Banpresto figures the sculpt replicates the source material's artstyle very well and the paint job is gorgeous. I love the glossy black of his boots, it draws the eye wonderfully and isn't a total dust magnet like most finishes like this tend to be. It's not all positive though, the statue is prone to getting minor chips and cracks straight out of the box, mostly on the cape and boots. They're fairly innocuous, but consistent across all the ones I've seen. And as much as I dig this pose, the stand they used to pull it off is really big for a statue that's definitely a bit on the smaller side, so its not as conservative on shelf space as it looks at first. Despite that, the sculpt and paint are still on point and I'm happy this is in my collection. I even liked it enough I bought it twice.
