Pride 2025 Reading Book 2

Soon after its inception, the need to expand to include families with transgender and/or non-binary loved ones of ALL AGES became clear. As a result, HSZ&W became a 501(c)3 non-profit and has increased services and outreach to meet the needs of the families of the transgender and/or nonbinary community in partnership with other equality-focused organizations.

Pride 2025 Reading Book #1

Alright y'all, it's that time of year again - #pride2025 reading! This year, for obvious reasons, I will be focusing on trans and nonbinary authors and stories. I am also linking a trans/queer charity with each book for donations.

First up is Sovereign by April Daniels. This is the second book of the Nemesis series. I read book one, Dreadnought, last year and am excited to get to the sequel. Trans-lesbian superhero! Pairing with Transgender Law Center - https://transgenderlawcenter.org/

I love these. I once was walking from a parking garage to my friend's apartment when my girlfriend drove by to get to the same garage. She jokingly catcalled me, yelling "hey baby, where you going". Another pedestrian got so offended on my behalf, I had to be like, that's my girlfriend, she thinks she's funny. I was touched and amused anyway 🤣

i was at a coffee shop in some random town once waiting on my drink. i was the only person there until someone walked in and walked up to the register and they said something crazy like "don't fuck up my order this time, bitch" and i was sooooooo exhausted i stepped forward and i was just like [firm angry mom voice] "no. no. hey. you need to leave right now." and the barista and the customer both turned to me in abject shock and the barista started laughing and the customer looked horrified like they hadn't seen me when they came in and they said "i'm so sorry oh my god I work here. we're friends. i was just messing with them."

and i was like OH! that's a relief.

the barista was still laughing and they said "you were really about to fight for me. i love that." I said was in food service long enough that i'm always ready to fight a customer at any moment. i would have gone for blood. i would've used my teeth.

Like, I get the appeal of a headcanon queer fave. I was raised in the HP fandom, I did this a lot. I personally am an aro/ace Eddie truther. But there is a difference between enjoying your fanon queer characters and ships and insisting its canon while ignoring, and sometimes straight up villainizing, the actual canon queer characters

The dread of knowing this fandom will spend Pride Month focusing on a straight character to the detriment of an actual queer one.

With more and more Ao3 authors restricting their works to the archive (due to AI scraping), they're going to be losing guest interaction. And probably generally feeling down because. You know. AI is stealing their hard work.
