1999, before DOGZ.

Part 1

Py is in her room working on her homemade bass guitar. All The Small Things by Blink-182 plays on the radio.

“I can’t wait to play you…” she says to the guitar. She finishes up and starts to tune up the bass. “Sounding good…” she pokes her tongue out listening to the pitch as she tunes. Suddenly she hears something drop outside her room. “Huh?” She puts her bass down and gets up to investigate. When she exits her room quietly she sees her mom staring out the window in shock. She dropped a baking sheet.

“Mom?” She says, curious yet shaky. What has her so spooked?

“Mom…” she says again, creeping closer to slowly reveal that a red man is standing outside just staring in. She screams at the sight of him. The man grins and starts to laugh.

“Humans, they’re so easy to scare.” He says as he makes his way to the door and knocks.

Py goes to stand behind the front door. “What do you w-want?”

“I’m looking for a place to stay. Could you help me?” The man asks. It’s hard to tell if he’s dangerous or not. Who just stands outside someone’s window like that?

“Now why would we help you after you scared us to near death??” She says, a little angry.

“I’m sorry about that, it’s just I find it funny.” He replies.

“Well it’s not funny seeing a…I don’t even know what just stand and stare! I don’t think you’re even human!” She says loudly so he hears well.

He chuckles. “Well, I’m sort of human. But…not really.”

Sweat starts to well up on her forehead. Did he just confirm he’s not a human? Is this real? Please tell me this is some nightmare.

“W-what do you mean by that?” She asks. Her mother finally collects herself and comes to stand by her daughter.

“I took this body from somebody, I’m just renting it out you see.”

Renting it out? What do you mean renting it out? What is he…

She finds it hard to speak. “Renting…renting it out?” Why does she keep talking. Why is her mom being so quiet? She turns around. The red man is now behind her instead of her mom.

The look on his face has become distorted, voice sounds like it’s behind radio static. “I’m renting it out for I don’t have a physical body of my own. And when this one rots away, I’m going to be needing a new one and boy does your vessel look perfect.” His grin wide and sharp teeth poke out. Sweat is now dripping off her face. As she’s about to scream she wakes up.

Just like that. Her prayers were answered, it was just a nightmare. Breathing heavy now she takes a moment to collect herself.

“What was that about?” She says to herself quietly. She gets up and walks to the bathroom to wash her face from the sweat. She makes her way back to the room. She looks at her bass that’s near completion. “Heh, maybe I’m too stressed about getting you finished up for the talent show.” She continues on and gets back to her bed.
