( cain ).

Cain’s smile disappeared at the woman’s remark about him knowing how to act human unlike some of the other people they knew. His face was emotionless even though he knew she was trying to make a joke it still slightly upset him because he believed himself to still be human at least. He knew he wasn’t a good person, but he could still feel sadness and grief. Shaking his head he let out a small chuckle before his smile return. He couldn’t give away his act since it was natural for him. He put up the act as a defensive ever since he was a child.
“So what are you planning on doing from here on out Eris? I mean did our master give you any orders? I haven’t gotten a chance to speak to him ever since we came to this planet.”
Her head titled slightly as the smile upon the male’s lips faded. There wasn’t much else to go on, Cain certainly had the masking emotions down packed, so whether or not her comment hit close to home or there was something else she’d never know. Though then again, she wasn’t entirely concerned whatever the reason behind it was. Humanity was something hardly sort after, why should that offend him?
Her shoulders shrugged lightly. Both in regards to brushing off his small reaction and his words. “All I know for certain is that we’re to remain vigilante and keep from breaking the peace.” She started, her weight shifting between her feet as her posture straightened, “So the only thing I can do here is wait until either Kylo decides enough is enough of this peace or someone from either side takes matters into their own hands. Riveting really.”

( mara ).
‹ ◯ › –––– Mara didn’t really do dresses; she do parties either. That was for the rich and flamboyant. However, she wasn’t really sure she could classify this as a party anyway. Sure they were dressed up, drinking– but there was an unaddressed and undeniable tension in the air. Some were mingling, sure– but a lot of them were staring. Awkwardly. At their friends, at their enemies (( The difficulty was figuring out who was who. Without their colours flying, you could really be talking to anyone. ))
With a heafty sigh, she lifted her ankle up to adjust the straps on the heels she was wearing. In complete honesty this was the first time she could ever remember wearing them. She wasn’t sure why people did why they were even ‘a thing’. Pulling the minuscule strap tightly, her fingers slipped– which wouldn’t have been so bad if she hadn’t elbowed the person next to her directly in the stomach.
With a subtle curse beneath her breath, she tried to formulate some sort of educated response; an apology.
“Hey– I am SO sorry about that. It kind of comes with the territory right? I’m pretty new at this; all of this. Diplomacy. Socializing. Dressing up.”
The smile she offered was about as awkward as her words, brows raised in hopefulness. The last thing she wanted was for the situation to escalate, and she absolutely knew some people would let it.
It had been an attempt to slip through the gaps hardly noticed by those deep in conversation or preoccupied by someone or something that stood between her and the exit. Even if there were orders, Eris never was the most order-abiding. At least not when she knew a few moments of her missing from the crowd would more than likely not go acknowledged. She’d planned to be out and back in before anyone of importance noticed. That was until her attempt was interrupted.
The sudden, unexpected, jab that caught her caused a sharp intake of air to be forced in through gritted teeth and all movement to still. It was far from anything she couldn’t handle, the pain was merely uncomfortable compared to most that she’d endured. But as her posture straightened the deep ache became a little harder to bare, though no discomfort appeared upon her features.
Slowly, Eris’ attention turned to focus upon the seemingly hopeful features. It settled her a little, knowing the other hadn’t exactly meant the elbow to her stomach but every inch of her was sharp-edged. Ready to react just in case. “It depends what side you’re on.” She had never witnessed the Resistance’s ways but she doubted violence just for the sake of it was a rare, if not non-existent, occasion. “But either way, there’s people here you should be counting your blessings for not being the one to have been elbowed. Some don’t have—” Her words trailed off as her weight shifted between feet, a subconscious reaction to try and ease the ache, “Accidents aren’t just accidents to some, watch yourself.”

( padmé ).
fresh air was a desperation, padmé’s footsteps falling at a rushed paced as she exited the main ballroom. hours were spent within those walls, leading up to the perfect balance in decorum and atmosphere. all to the queen’s liking, of course. this extravagance was taking a toll —- there were plenty more things of importance to dwell on. like the impending war on a planet that hadn’t seen battle since her birth. it was coming and inevitable.
the palace gardens were dimly lit, most assuming their place was sought within. yet, she was without. approaching the lakeside, the soft music still managing to reach her ears. —- faltering at the sudden presence. the assumption of loneliness was dissolved, the figure was unknown but she still held the duty of PEACE ( even when that was somehow slipping through her fingers ).
“ apologies. “ muttering a quick acknowledgement of her invasion, “ i didn’t actually think someone could pry themselves from… “ waving in the direction of the lightheartedness from above.
she couldn’t remember the last time she’d been able to simply be. moments alone and moments to allow the persona she’d built, to fit the perfect image of what one expected a knight of ren, to fall were few and far between. if ever. the room had been stifling, almost impossible to navigate without catching someone’s eye that held the hatred she knew almost all had for who and what she was. not that she blamed them. for once in the years since donning the title of a knight of ren and the name eris, she was finding it difficult to keep herself from becoming affected by others and allowing them to see it. she doubted anyone would miss her as she’d slipped silently through the door towards the gardens.
nature had once been something that calmed her, but it also held memories she’d rather forget. but whatever horrors may flicker through her mind, the stillness of the lake’s water, the gentle breeze that ruffled the leaves around her, settled her. a softness coming to her features that many never got to see. but just like that, the moment was gone. she’d noted the presence of another only moments before a voice broke through the quiet surroundings. giving her plenty of time to allow her features to harden, any sign of the softness that had present in them seconds before vanishing within a blink of an eye.
her eyes were the first to meet the princess before her body angled slightly to follow, “and yet—you’re here. i’d thought you’d be one of those to not be able to pry themselves away, princess. one might think you’re not completely for this, peace.”

“ And so it ends. As I somehow almost knew it must; in darkness. ”
“ And so it ends. As I somehow almost knew it must; in darkness. ”
her final step lingered as the princess’ words fell from her lips. maybe only a while ago eris would have found it easy to allow the other to think such things because eris herself believed darkness always found a way to ruin the light. no matter what anyone did, it found its way into everything. hell, eris wouldn’t have even thought she’d be standing with padmé able to allow her stoic facade to fall even in the smallest of ways.
naboo had ended up being both a blessing and a curse for many reasons.
slowly, eris turned back to face the princess, her lips parting for a moment. a hint of hesitation before she finally managed to form words that meant far more than just their obvious meaning. “it’s possible for darkness to be overcome—darkness never lasts forever, padmé, no matter who tries to convince you it can.”
eris lingered for a moment longer, her eyes focused upon padmé’s features before allowing her fingers to come up and tug at the fabric that framed her face, pulling it closer to hide her features before finally melting away into the darkness.

❝ THEY’RE ALL HERE. ❞ a sharp murmur, with only the faintest of creases on her brow to indicate annoyance. she kept her eyes locked onto some guests as they’d entered the ballroom ; & the resistance had been sighted therein. so far, she’s not impressed by what she’s found. ❝ every single one of them. ❞
HER FULL ATTENTION was focused on their surroundings, eyes scanning faces and searching for any hint of a disturbance. even if both sides were sworn to remain civil, all it took was one for the threat of jail to become obsolete. ❝ however we feel about them, you have to give it to them, they’re—persistent. they refuse to be wiped out no matter how small their chances are of surviving. ❞

( soka ).
–––––––– ✯⋆ soka supposed she could draw some satisfaction in the shock she’d brought to asteria’s features, some sort of sick pleasure in knowing she’d outlived whatever the other woman had suspected she’d endured. the knights of ren had fancied themselves the lone survivors, maybe they would be had kylo’s weakness or arrogance not allowed her to slip through his fingers. he would not make that mistake again, nor was she a pitiful creature anymore. she was dangerous and dedicated, and they should be afraid.
after kylo had left her to die, soka had reached out through the force to see if any of the other children were alive and burning like her and she’d met nothing but silence, a wall of blackness that she couldn’t penetrate that told her all she needed to know. no one else left in the temple was still breathing. not even the smoke in her lungs could stifle her cries. shamefully, she’d mourned most for asteria. not for a moment had she thought that the girl would turn. it was unfathomable, inconceivable and nonetheless true. after all, here she was, a knight of ren. in a sense, it was true that her friend had died that night and what little innocence of soka that remained had been snuffed out a year later when she’d discovered that asteria had lived– oh how she wished she hadn’t.
“ but he didn’t, ” she interjected spitefully. kylo had made sure of nothing, a blunder than had allowed not only soka to slip through his fingers, but luke skywalker as well. “ i suppose you lot didn’t think i had it in me, after he cut off my leg, to drag myself out. ” she’d lost a limb, broken bones and burned so badly on parts of her skin, that it’d never healed to completion, but she was still HERE. “ maybe he was weak, maybe just arrogant. but i promise you, asteria, i’m neither. ” when the time came, soka knew better than to wound what she should kill.
she’d never allowed herself to imagine the horrors the fallen had gone through that day, the images she had from that night already were enough to make anyone shut them out. all she’d allowed herself to feel was the darkness and self-hatred that fuelled her, it was easier. it was easier than facing everything she betrayed that night. everything she’d turned her back on to simply survive. even if surviving meant becoming the very thing she was meant to be fighting again.
but with soka in front of her and words like venom coming from her lips, even if she never played a direct part in the massacre, eris was faced with the reality of what her betrayal looked like. if it hadn’t been for the name that left soka’s lips, eris may have been able to regain her stoic composure, to not allow the other to see that her mere image brought far too many emotions she never allowed herself to feel.
asteria.
it tripped her up. the darkness draining from her features, even if it was for a split second, as her head tilted. as if questioning that the name even belonged to anyone she knew. she hadn’t heard the name, her name, in years. the girl she was meant to be. her chest eased for a moment, a breath leaving her lips. but as soon as a single drop of lightness had appeared it vanished in a wave of sickness. a sickness that she twisted into fuel to keep her from faltering. her jaw tightened as her eyes drained of any notion of emotion and her feet finally broke from where they’d be frozen stuck and she moved towards soka. no hint of hesitation present in her movements.
“asteria died that night.” the words were spoken quietly, but they were nowhere near soft, “she was weak. like you, like the jedi. you think you’re capable of facing kylo? you might survive to see another limb taken from you but nothing else, because where were you all these years?— hiding?—like luke was?——you don’t stand a chance.”

( ari ).
• * • “i know you eris – your size means nothing to me as i know how skilled you are.” he said to the girl. “i am just saying that to the other people in this crowd – well they certainly wouldn’t expect an attack from you.”
“and don’t you forget it, aritol. even if it’d make my day to see you on the ground.” a lips twisted into a smile before her eyes flickered to the throng of people for a moment, “it’s probably for the best.” as she turned to face him, her features fell innocent, her eyes widening. though a wickedness crept into the corners of her lips. “who knows what innocent eris could cause.”

( daimon ).
–––– ✘ before he’d been sent to the galaxies prettiest bog, daimon had liked eris best. she was quiet, less feral than the others could be and as a quiet man himself, he could appreciate such things. but he was no longer a ren, and she was simply a guest in the home of a woman he was meant to be protecting. if only she knew that her protector was the very thing she should fear the most. not only a villain but one without loyalty or obedience to keep him in check. “ no, i wouldn’t imagine you to be the forgiving type. ” he replied, raising his brows cautiously.
“shouldn’t you be fetching your leader a drink? ” daimon jabbed, the words a little more sincere and spiteful than those around them knew. “ or does he have one of the others doing the honor? ”
his reply wasn’t entirely wrong. eris may have the ability to be as ruthless and unforgiving as the worst of them, but she did tend to walk the line of forgiveness a little easier than most. but even so, it was easier to allow the next words to slip from her lips, “at least you’re aware of that little notion, some aren’t as smart.”
a single corner of her lip tugged up into a smirk, allowing her eyes to divert from him for a moment as her head nodded. even if her facade had broken for a moment, if anyone could hear the two’s conversation, one might think it was only a natural reaction to being hinted at being some sort of pet. “oh i’m sure he’s more than capable of getting his own drink for one night—we may be under his instructions but we’re not his servants. unlike some think.” or were they? sometimes it was hard for eris to tell. pushing the thoughts to the back of her mind, her head tilted slightly as she allowed the smirk upon her lips to turn sharper. perfectly paired with a jab of her own. “are you not meant to be looking after your princess—jedi? or have you lost her? we wouldn’t want anything to happen to her now would we?”

( cain ).
The male couldn’t help but chuckle at his companion's remark about his flare killing him one day since he didn’t care. He knew this would be the best comment he would get out of her. Humming softly as he licked his lips messing with the drink in his hand. “I will take my chances. It hasn’t killed me yet, so I think I’m doing good.” Crocking an eyebrow at the woman he decided to talk with her before trying to find information. “You know why I did that right?”
Pausing for a moment the blonde leaned closer to the woman as he lowered his voice to a whisper. “I may act like a fool, but I am not one. When the ice breaks everyone lowers their guards on their minds, which makes it easier for me to sneak in and get information out. So that is why I put on flairs so I can mask my true intentions. Why do you think I act like a gentleman”
Everything always had another meaning. It was something she’d learnt early on, even before she’d let the darkness consume her. No one did anything just because, there was always something selfish lurking within. She’d expected nothing else from the lightheaded male as he explained. A slow nod coming as her only reply. “You don’t need to explain—it’s not my way but I understand. But who knows, maybe you’re a gentleman because you still know how to act human—unlike others.” She was careful to chose her words. Careful to pass them off as light and meaningless, tinged with a joking manner as she forced her features to soften in slight amusement.

( hux ).
At least this Ren wasn’t annoying as the others. Infact, her presence wasn’t too bad. Only because she wasn’t trying to order the general around as if he were some sort of slave. She was smart and hux had to agree. Nodding to her, the general smirked. “You’re right. It won’t last. I’m waiting for things to blow up and perhaps join in on my own terms. I don’t plan on doing anything yet.”
“Your own terms?” The words brought a hint of an amused smile to ghost her lips. “Do your terms not align with the ones of the Supreme Leader?” She knew the two had their difference, though that was putting it lightly, but in the end she knew it would most likely come down to what Kylo wanted. “Though I should have probably know by now that you’d have plans of your own.”
