oh i never know how to explain this properly but i looooooooooooooooove when a story just absolutely TELLS you something and it’s so obvious it goes right by you. like the equivalent of hiding in plain sight. i’m thinking in the original cut(?) of alien where they showed the full xenomorph, crouched and ready to pounce, but because we’ve never seen it before, we can’t tell what it is and interpret it as part of the spaceship. or it’s a detail that seems so out of place or wildly insane that you automatically ignore it and assume you misinterpreted until that exact detail comes back in a big way? (like when noah the raven boy flat out tells everyone he’s a ghost and they take it as a joke, so the reader does too) is there a tvtropes name for this i’m obsessed with it

is this ship popular because it’s legitimately compelling or is it popular because it’s the easiest to decontextualize and write college roommate AUs about?

i'm rewatching naruto (sasuke retrieval arc) and i never realised how funny the shikamaru vs tayuya fight is. shikamaru spends the whole fight mustering up every ounce of tactical instinct and every millimetre of shadow range he has to fight tayuya and temari rolls up and just. wrecks tayuya's shit immediately with a giant gust of wind. really makes you realise that shikamaru only needs to be that smart because his jutsu is kind of shit

#very cute art#there was a little kernel of something i liked at the heart of kdh#to do with rumi accepting her scars#the american voices annoyed me so much tho i actually switched to korean audio with subs#americanisation of asian inspired media is always a creatively bankrupt decision in my eyes

my favorite thing about navigating fanfiction is finding a really good one and being all “oh boy this was good, I hope they have more!” and literally every other story they’ve ever written was for like Miami Vice

my very hottest take is that the only director whose filmmaking style has the potential to fully capture the sensibility and nuance of frankenstein is wes anderson
#frankenstein#wes anderson#tell me someone else sees my vision#frankenstein is not gruesome horror it's the misadventures of a swiss posho who has never once accepted the consequences of his own actions#that's IDEAL wes fodder

“how do you write again after a long break?” you just start. that’s the horror of it. you just. start. and then the story opens its eyes.

wishing I could freeze time so fanfic writers could write all of their slow-burn enemies to lovers and gay porn and fix-it fics and all of their WIPs and prompts without having to worry about life and other responsibilities

They’ve released not just digitized works of art, but also a great many art history texts and art books in general. Just this week, they announced an expansion of access to their digital archive, in that they’ve made nearly 88,000 images free to download on their Open Content database under Creative Commons Zero (CC0). That means “you can copy, modify, distribute and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, all without asking permission.”
88,000 new free images just dropped, to use however you like.

is there a name for text that IS technically text and not subtext but that is not directly accessible to the viewer, in the sense that it's not woven into the narrative and you have to go back and piece it together yourself? that's what severance is doing and i'm not entirely convinced it constitutes good writing tbh
#“small print” perhaps#severance#i like severance i just also like to think about writing#i'm sure TONNES of shows do this btw this might just be the first time a show i've been into has done it in a very noticeable way
