*person who has rich parents* you can do like anything you want in this world you can literally drop out of highschool and go to Europe for a decade and come back to build a family and start a small business but it's like you have to want it you can't just expect things to come to you without you putting the work in

Yes I think you ought to respect your elders but too many people mean that in the “treat your elders like they are perfect beings that can’t be questioned” way and not the “respect the perspective that age gives people and take care of the elderly with dignity” way

Happy Pride everyone, today is the tenth anniversary of the nationwide right to gay Marriage in the United States and the 22nd anniversary of nationwide legalization of Gay Sex. In 2 days is the 56th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising.

This image captures a unique practice in Maine where sheep are transported by boat to offshore islands in the spring to graze, and then back to the mainland in the fall. Sheep are released on these islands in spring to take advantage of abundant grazing and lack of natural predators, allowing them to thrive.

a transmasc person going "i hated being a woman, i don't understand why anyone would want to be a woman, and anyone who actively chooses to be a woman is making the wrong choice" is obviously in the wrong right. so why do we keep letting people get away with saying the reverse. just because masculinity was a prison for you doesn't mean it isn't freedom for others

I know this feels like a pointless detail, but facts can be skewed easily if people don't cross verify their sources. Even credible online ressources for history enthusiasts sometimes don't go through the trouble of checking the original texts they're quoting or referencing. They'll gather information from other websites instead, which makes it easier for incorrect, or unverified information to get passed around.
787 was the year of the Isle of Portland raid, according to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. Many online articles state it as 789, and others, as 783. All these sources cite the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle as their reference, never explaining why their information differs from the one provided in the text.
A.D. 787. This year King Bertric took Edburga the daughter of Offa to wife. And in his days came first three ships of the Northmen from the land of robbers. The reve then rode thereto, and would drive them to the king's town; for he knew not what they were; and there was he slain. These were the first ships of the Danish men that sought the land of the English nation.
This is just an example of how crucial it is to directly verify your information. Especially if you do most of your research online. It's easy to miss, but these websites that provide historical (or even spiritual) information sometimes don't even cite their sources. For people interested in reconstruction, I highly advise consulting historical accounts directly. Chances are, you'll discover a gold mine of information you wouldn't have had otherwise. Granted, these age-old accounts themselves are sometimes far from historical fact. That's when scholarly interpretation comes in. Not only will you be standing on the same ground as historians, having access to the same accounts and sources, but you'll have their specialized analysis to work with as well.

One field that badly needs to be purged of "Great Man-ism" is architecture.

I don't wanna hear one more bitch saying that contacting your senators&reps doesn't work
Btw, this is FAR from getting rid of the land selloff from the BBB. Keep at it. Mike Lee specifically is notable because he's from Utah, the state that's pushed for that sell off very heavily for mining income.
