Overheard on Berkeley Street, by the side of the Starbucks there. I was out getting myself coffee during the recent "Snow Day" we had, so hardly anybody was out. The little girl almost ran into me and just circled around on the sidewalk merrily. The dress was rather spiffy, I must admit.

This is an old Boston one that I originally made in January 2014, the same month I joined Tumblr. I wasn't sure what to post so I didn't upload it then. Looking back at what I did post, I think I wanted to only show the most polished work I was doing, and these seemed so random, personal and sketchy. I didn't yet realize that I can relax here with y'all.

A comment to my last upload asked about how I remember stuff for these comics. I used to just mutter what I heard to myself until I could get to a way to write it down. But now, with the convenience of my cell phone, I can make notes on the spot whenever I hear something.

This is a leftover from life in Boston. Two young fellows by Park Station at dusk, sharing a joint and reconsidering their life choices.

Overheard near Yorkville as my partner and I were exploring the neighborhood. We were passing a public bike rental station thing when the two couples behind us had this conversation. It seemed like a double date; the two in front seemed to be close friends and each with a +1 date trailing behind.

One couple was clearly getting along well while the other couple floundered and bickered about the bicycles. I was struck both by the lack of emotional intelligence displayed by the struggling date, (Like why are you picking a silly fight over the merits of cycling through a busy city without a helmet as a romantic adventure? You are going home alone, buddy.) and the nimble way the friend defused the situation with a private reference that seemed like a reminder of understanding companionship.

Okay okay, so this wasn't a delivery person, but it was somebody scooting about grooving with headphones and no helmet, just vibing. They were hand dancing, yes, but sometimes the music do be that good. I've never ridden a scooter so I have no idea if you need both hands all the time or not. This was over in the Church Wellesley Village area, across the street from Storm Crow Manor! We were perusing some kinda outdoor queer market thing. It was cute and fine and sunny. Made them a rhino, because they just seemed wholly unconcerned about collisions >_<

I saw this person on a scooter basically festooned with flowers. It could be they were all an individual purchase, but it looked like a flower shop delivery to me. NO HELMET. Helmet culture seems to be rather freewheeling. I imagine if you have long ears that might be uncomfortable, but still - wear your helmets, kids.

Just now back from a local, queer, art-in-the-park sort of social thing, trying to meet folks in town. There was a scavenger hunt with individual prompts handed out, like "something that makes you smile". I saw a pair of puppies playing and flowers in a small public garden.

Among the many things I'm noticing living here in Toronto are the food delivery folks valiantly jousting about in the streets. This deliverator ran out of logical places to apply those reflective safety stickers and just crowded the rest like barnacles, where they fit. I thought at first the teal color scheme was a tasteful personal palette but have since learned that it's the official livery for the Fantuan fleet.
