☆ My First Bat Mitzvah ☆
In February 2019 My partner’s younger sister, Maya, invited me to a very significant ceremony of her young life, her Bat Mitzvah. For those who might not know what a Bat Mitzvah Is It’s a religious initiation ceremony for a Jewish girl when she is thirteen, the age of religious maturity. It’s the same thing for boys only exception is it’s called a Bar Mitzvah. The Bat mitzvah would consist of two services, a party, and goodbye brunch, which would start on Friday night and end Sunday afternoon. Two weeks before the Bat Mitzvah I was really feeling the secondhand stress. Mi suegra (mother-in-law) was cleaning, repainting, and organizing every inch of the house. Anticipating the arrival of family and friends, many who live out of state. Relatives and friends I was very nervous about meeting. For some context on myself, I was born and raised in a Catholic family and had never been to Bar/Bat Mitzvah so I didn’t really couldn’t go in with any expectations, all I really felt was excitement and also very nervous on making a good impression. This ceremony really meant a great deal to my second family so I try to support them as best as possible. Mi suegra was even kind enough to treat me with an outfit for the party. Which was a sparkly silver long sleeve with a short turtle neck style bodysuit that had an open back and some black faux leather pants. I was absolutely in love with the outfit and couldn’t wait to show it off. The beginning of the weekend arrived and I was nervous but I managed to stay calm and collected. The first services were casual, but the Bat Mitzvah service was formal. I did my sister in law’s makeup and I actually received several compliments on it, but since I was very occupied I didn’t mangue to take pictures. The services were so beautiful, I even shed some tears because of the rabbi’s words. I was so proud and happy for my little sister in law for working so hard. Hours later was the party, The hotel was it took place was stunning and I finally got to wear my outfit. We danced all night and celebrated the beginning of womanhood to someone who means the world to me. The next morning I was so tired I didn’t bother to wear makeup for the brunch. By the end of the brunch when we're all saying goodbye I knew in my heart that I made a good impression, I got kisses and goodbyes hoping that we’d see each other again. My first Bat Mitzvah was such a beautiful experience, I’m honored that I was able to be part of it.
