Painting with Lights

First we made sure all of the lights in the room were blocked out to create a dark setting for our shoot. After we had to set our camera on a tripod and adjust our settings, we used a 100 ISO and used a slow shutter speed to make our photo. For this photo we used a flashlight to create illuminations.

Studio Portait of Photographer Jessica Ofelia Alvarenga

Houston Texas photographer Jessica spoke about her photography and how important it was to document culture, sexuality, and identity. Being comfortable in your own skin is what makes you who you are today in this world. Thats what Jessica did growing up and being who she really was. She’s an inspiration to others who feel insecure about their bodies and who they are. I’m a big fan of photographing the outdoors, but these past few days of learning how to take studio portraits have made me fall in love with the hobby because I can control the lighting and tell the people who I am taking photos of how I want them to be to get that perfect photo of them.

I learned how to tell my model how to pose to get that perfect moment. I used F8 to get a sharp image and my ISO was at 100 using one strobe light (flash.) Meeting new photographers made me realize that you can go some where in life with it because its art and people are going to love it. You can capture a beautiful moment and always go back to that moment.

Camp Fowler and NYC Street Photography

During my time at Camp Fowler I caught this photo of people kayaking in the lake. I loved how the sunset created a silhouette while the people were kayaking. It reminded me of home in Montana because of the views.

I went to Hamilton Fish Pool to have a nice swim day. Where I saw younger girls on the other side playing 5 on 5 basketball, that made me hop out to go over to see how they played here in New York. Their ball movement and team work amazed me. Basketball is something I love doing as a hobby besides being a photographer. 

On our way back from Super Chief studio I saw this well dressed man with style that caught my eye and and wanted to take a photo. At first I was hesitant to take a photo, but my photo instructor Destiny encouraged me to ask to take a portrait of him. Such a kind soul to meet :)

Not every day do I get to meet and photograph an inspirational woman/actress- here's Rosario Dawson spreading the word about how important it is to vote at the Lower East Side Girls Club in NYC.
